India's Former Permanent Rep To UN Syed

‘China Cannot Thwart India..’: India’s Former Permanent Rep To UN Syed Akbaruddin Hails Makki’s Listing As ‘Global Terrorist’

India’s former representative at the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, on Monday said the news about Abdul Rehman Makki being designated as a global terrorist by the UN sanctions committee depicts a growing understanding globally that China cannot thwart India and that China’s stranglehold over India’s pursuit of justice is now in vain.

“The news depicts a growing understanding globally that China cannot thwart India. China’s stranglehold over India’s pursuit of justice against those who attacked our people is now in vain,” Akbaruddin said on UN listing Pakistan’s Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist.
“Countering terrorism is one of Indian foreign policy’s most important goals,” he said.

Akbaruddin further said that India’s quest for justice for its people against Pakistan-based terrorists would continue. “This is a good success of Indian diplomacy,” the former representative at the UN said.

“It took us more than a decade to designate Masood Azhar and now it has taken us about seven months plus to designate Abdul Rehman Makki. You can see that India is successful in mounting pressure on those who oppose the designation of terrorism,” he added.

Former Indian diplomat Vidya Bhushan Soni said that such terrorists are not only against India but against humanity and against all the innocent people of this world.

“Such terrorists are not only against India but against humanity and against all the innocent people of this world. So it is good that China has supported us in this. They have secured their own future through this, so that they can also ask for help if faced with such terrorists.”

United Nations Security Council has designated Abdul Rehman Makki, the brother-in-law of 26/11 mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed who has been given a safe haven in Pakistan, as a global terrorist under its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee.

India’s perseverance has largely been responsible for the stepping up of international pressure to designate the Pakistan-based, LeT deputy chief Makki as a global terrorist.

This listing is seen as a major win for New Delhi after China in June 2022 blocked a joint proposal by India and the US to get the UNSC to list Makki as a global terrorist. Beijing put a last-minute “technical hold” on the joint proposal to put Makki on the UNSC’s 1267 list of terrorists linked to al Qaeda and ISIL. The move by Beijing was condemned by India as “extremely unfortunate.”

“On 16 January 2023, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida, and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities approved the addition of the entry specified below to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2610 (2021) and adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations,” the UN said in a statement on Monday.

Resolution 1267 provides for sanctions against individuals and entities that support or finance the acts or activities of ISIL, Al-Qaida, associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities.

Makki is the deputy leader of LeT, an organisation that was later renamed the Jamaat ud Dawa (JuD), as a terrorist. Just like LeT, the JuD is also a UN-designated terror group. (ANI)

Passenger Opens Emergency Exit Door Of Chennai-Tiruchirappalli IndiGo Flight

A passenger on an IndiGo, Chennai-Tiruchirappalli flight opened the emergency door on December 10, last year, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) informed through an official communication on Tuesday, adding that it had taken due note of the incident and has ordered a probe into it.

A previous communication from the DGCA said the flight was bound for Trivandrum, but the carrier later issued a clarification saying it was flying to Tiruchirappalli.
In what is the latest in a string of incidents of passenger misconduct, coming on the back of two alleged peeing incidents onboard two Air India (AI) international flights, the passenger, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, opened the emergency door leaving the others onboard the IndiGo flight 6E-7339.

However, there was no untoward incident as the flight hadn’t yet taken off.

Confirming that the flight regulator had taken note of the incident, a senior DGCA official told ANI, “The incident was duly reported. It appears that the passenger opened the RH emergency exit door by mistake while the aircraft was still on the ground. The crew moved in swiftly and all appropriate action to restore airworthiness such as reinstalling the door, pressurization check was carried out before the flight was cleared for departure. No safety protocol was compromised with.”

In an earlier incident on November 26 last year, Shankar Mishra, a passenger on a business-class flight from New York to New Delhi allegedly relieved himself on a 70-year-old woman passenger in an inebriated state.

Delhi Police registered an FIR against the passenger on January 4 on a complaint by the elderly passenger. The case was filed under IPC sections 354, 509, and 510 and Section 23 of the Indian Aircraft Act.

Amid a huge public outcry over the incident, US-based financial services company Wells Fargo, where Mishra worked, terminated his contract.

Not Scared Of Disqualification, Prison Sentences: Rahul

Rather Be ‘Beheaded’ Than Step Into RSS Office: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday issued a strong statement against the saffron brigade led by the Sangh Parivar as he made it clear that nothing can ever force him to see eye to eye with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and that he prefers to be “beheaded” than step into an RSS office.

Rahul made his clash with the Sangh ideology clear amid growing speculations about BJP leader and his cousin Varun Gandhi’s entry into Congress, as he said that their ideologies do not match.
Gandhi said that Varun at some point accepted the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and added that he cannot accept this ever.

“Varun at some point, maybe even today, accepted that ideology and made it his own. I can not accept that thing,” the Wayanad MP said during a press briefing.

Gandhi said that he will have to be “beheaded” to make him enter the RSS office.

“Varun Gandhi is in BJP if he walks here then it might be a problem for him. My ideology doesn’t match his ideology. I cannot go to the RSS office, I’ll have to be beheaded before that. My family has an ideology. Varun adopted another & I can’t accept that ideology,” he said.

“I can surely meet him and hug him, but cannot accept that ideology,” Gandhi added at a press conference during the Punjab-leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra that aims to end the politics of hate and division and the over-centralization of our political system

The Congress leader claimed that the BJP will suffer a “massive blow” due to issues like unemployment, and price rise.

“It is abundantly clear that the BJP will suffer a massive hit by economic distress, unemployment, and price rise. There is massive anger against the BJP,” he said.

Lashing out at the “structure of media”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday claimed that “hatred is being spread in the media”, while also alleging that it is playing the role of “distraction instead of a watchdog”.

Gandhi called for an “independent media and institutions” citing his party’s philosophy, and said that media is a “feedback channel” for the Congress governments.

“The media is being controlled and pressured. The reporters are not at fault. You have constraints. You have to do what your owner tells you to do. I understand as you tell me. I’m not criticizing you. I’m criticizing the structure of media,” he said.

“Congress’ philosophy is of an independent media and institutions. Even if Congress wants to control media, we do not have the capability of implementing it because our structure is not as centralized as the BJP. We want independent and fair media,” Gandhi added.

Alleging that media is playing the “role of distraction”, the Congress leader said that it should rather play the “role of a watchdog”.

“Hatred is being spread in the media. The media is playing the role of distraction instead of a watchdog. Your role should be of a watchdog. The small businessmen are being crushed, farmers are being looted, but you distract by doing Hindu-Muslim, Bollywood, sports,” he said.

Gandhi said that the media should put pressure on the government.

“If you were given freedom, you would have asked about the data which we have presented here. You should be raising the issues like farmers’ issues, and employment issues. We would like the media which puts pressure on the government. You are feedback channels for the Congress governments,” he said. (ANI)

Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police is hunting for four other terror suspects, besides the two who were arrested last week from the Jahangirpuri area in the national capital, sources said on Tuesday.

Terror Plot Busted Ahead Of R-Day, Hunt On For 4 Suspects

Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police is hunting for four other terror suspects, besides the two who were arrested last week from the Jahangirpuri area in the national capital, sources said on Tuesday.

According to the Delhi Police Special Cell sources, the terror suspects recieved weapons from Pakistan through the drop-dead method and were in touch with their handlers on the other side of the border through a social media app.
“Delhi Police looking for 4 other suspects. They received weapons from Pakistan through the drop-dead method and were in contact with handlers in Pak on the Signal app. They got weapons at an unidentified location in Uttarakhand which is being verified,” sources said.

This comes after two terrorists were arrested from the Jahangirpuri area in Delhi earlier in January who, according to the police, were tasked to carry out the targeted attacks in various states.

In the latest development, the Delhi Police got information about the involvement of 8 persons in the module. The police suspect the possible presence of four suspects in India presently.

“Their handlers sitting at the border sent instructions on the Signal app, after which they shared the location of the bag full of weapons through Google Maps. About 8 people are involved in this module of terrorists out of which 4 can still be present in India only. 2 terrorists were used to provide weapons and 2 were used to send the Google location of the weapons to their bosses by keeping the weapons at a particular location,” sources said.

According to sources, the weapons recovered from the terrorists were found at an unknown location in Uttarakhand which is now being verified.

Meanwhile, the two terror suspects arrested from the Jahangirpuri area of the national capital on Thursday were assigned to carry out targeted killings of rightwing leaders on January 27 and January 31, sources in the Delhi Police claimed on Monday.

The Delhi Police had earlier said it arrested two ‘suspicious’ men and recovered two hand grenades from their house in the Bhalswa Dairy area of Jahangirpuri.

The Special cell of the Delhi Police had arrested the two suspects — identified as Jagjit Singh (29) and Naushad (56). They were produced before the Patiala House Court on Friday and sent to police remand for 14 days.

Police sources later claimed that three rightwing leaders of Punjab and Delhi were on their hit list and they had even set a date and time to take out two of their targets.

Further, according to sources, the suspects, now in police custody, had receed two of their targets and had even taken note of their movements and daily schedules.

The sources added that the suspects were to receive Rs 50 lakh on killing the first target, Rs 1 crore for taking out the second and Rs 1.5 crore for eliminating the third.

Both had received Rs 5 lakh as token money through hawala operators, sources claimed further.

Police said they carried out a raid at their rented house at the Shradha Nand Colony in the Bhalswa Dairy police station limits on Friday, under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and recovered hand grenades. The police said they also recovered three pistols and 22 live cartridges from the suspects.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also visited the house and collected blood samples on Friday.

According to sources, it is alleged that the suspects killed a person in the house and shared a video of the killing with their handler.

The police said they were in the process of finding out who was killed.

Delhi Police earlier said it has information that Jagjit Singh has links to Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Dalla. He is also a member of the notorious Bambiha gang and has been receiving instructions from anti-national elements based abroad, the city police said, adding that he is also a parole jumper in a murder case in Uttarakhand.

Naushad is also associated with Harkat-ul-Ansar (HUA), a terror group which is based in Pakistan and primarily operates in Jammu and Kashmir.

He has been a life convict in two counts of murder and has also served a 10-year sentence in connection with a case under the Explosive Act.

The accused took up residence at the rented house last year, during Diwali, adding that the construction of their own house is ongoing, according to the neighbors. (ANI)
