Kin Of Five Indians Killed In Crash Sent To Nepal For Identifying Bodies

The relatives of five Indians, who lost their lives in the Yeti plane crash, were sent to Nepal on Monday to identify the bodies.

While talking with ANI, father of Anil Kumar Rajbhar, one of the victims of the plane crash, said that the government is arranging to take them to the Nepal border. A police officer and a retired official are also going with them.

At least 68 people were killed when a Yeti Airlines passenger plane with 72 people on board, including five Indians, crashed into a river gorge while landing at the newly-opened airport in central Nepal’s resort city of Pokhara on Sunday.

He further revealed that nine people, family members of victims, were going to Nepal.

Meanwhile, another relative also said that the government are taking them to Kathmandu to identify the deceased body.

Rishabh Pant Thanks 2 'Heroes' Who Took Him To Hospital

Rishabh Pant Thanks 2 ‘Heroes’ Who Took Him To Hospital

Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Monday extended his gratitude to Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar, the youths who helped him after he met with a car accident and ensured that he reached hospital safely, calling them “two heroes”.

Rishabh took to Twitter and posted a picture of these two individuals standing with his mother.

“I may not have been able to thank everyone individually, but I must acknowledge these two heroes who helped me during my accident and ensured I got to the hospital safely. Rajat Kumar & Nishu Kumar, Thank you. I’ll be forever grateful and indebted,” tweeted Pant.

Earlier today, Pant thanked all his fans and well-wishers for their support and good wishes as he continues to receive treatment after meeting with a car accident last year.

Pant said his surgery was successful and his “road to recovery” has begun. He also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and government authorities for their “incredible support”.

“I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah & government authorities for their incredible support,” tweeted Pant.

“From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and the physios for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to see you all on the field. #grateful #blessed,” added Pant in another tweet.

Notably, Pant is expected to be out of action from the cricket field for the majority of 2023 and is anticipated to miss a number of major competitions, including the IPL.

According to a medical update provided to the BCCI about Pant, who survived the horrific accident on December 30, Pant tore all three of his knee’s key ligaments. Two of them have already undergone reconstruction, and surgery on the third is scheduled for six weeks from now, according to ESPNcricinfo.

As a result, Pant is likely to miss at least six months of action, which may adversely impact his chances of being selected for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October-November.

Pant had undergone successful knee surgery earlier in January.

One of India’s top contracted players, Pant, was airlifted earlier in January from Dehradun to Mumbai at the BCCI’s instruction and placed under the care of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, a specialised surgeon hired by the board.

Since the accident and surgery, the BCCI has released three medical bulletins, one of which revealed that Pant had also hurt his right ankle. His medial collateral ligament MCL), which is crucial for stability and movement, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were damaged, according to ESPNcricinfo.

It is believed that both the PCL and MCL were rebuilt during the recent surgery. Pant will require additional surgery to rebuild his ACL, but the procedure won’t be performed for at least six weeks.

A specific time frame hasn’t yet been given by the doctors for Pant’s return to training, but the BCCI and the selectors have determined that the wicketkeeper-batter would be out of action for at least six months.

Pant was rested for the home series against Sri Lanka after his previous appearance came in the December away series in Bangladesh. He was not included in the squads for the first two Test matches against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the New Zealand series.

In addition, Pant, who leads Delhi Capitals, won’t be available for the IPL, which gets underway on April 1. Should India advance to the World Test Championship final in June, Pant would miss it too.

In Pant’s absence for the first half of the Australia Test series, the selectors have picked KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan as backup wicketkeepers.

Also, in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand commencing next week, Bharat and Kishan will also compete for the wicketkeeper’s slot. (ANI)

Egypt's Prez Abdel Fattah Al Sisi To Be Chief Guest At R-Day

Egypt’s Prez Abdel Fattah Al Sisi To Be Chief Guest At R-Day

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has been invited by India as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January and to celebrate the ‘momentous occasion’ of completing 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations has further strengthened by mutual warmth, friendship, and goodwill, Ausaf Sayeed, secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs said on Monday.

Calling the completion of 75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Egypt a ‘momentous occasion’, Sayeed said the two nations established formal relations three days after India attained independence on August 15 in 1947.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as chief guest for the Republic Day and the invitation was warmly received.

“This is indeed a momentous occasion in our bilateral relations with Egypt when our two countries are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations. I was told that When we became independent on the 15th of August, 1947 it was three days later on the 18th of August that the relations, formal relations were established which goes on to say the importance which we attach to our relationship with Egypt,”Ausaf Sayeed, secretary (Consular, Passport & Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) MEA said on Monday.

He further stated, “Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited President Sisi as chief guest for our Republic Day and President Sisi has warmly accepted the invitation. We have invited Egypt as the guest country during our G20 Presidency this year. It is a matter of satisfaction and the civilization that links between India and Egypt have not only stood the test of time but have also further strengthened by mutual warmth, friendship, and goodwill.”

Sayeed added that the ties between the two nations received further momentum with Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visits to India and meetings between the two leaders at various forums, including the United Nations.

Participating in a panel discussion on India-Egypt ties in changing global order, Vijay Thakur Singh, Director General of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) also said that the Egyptian President has been invited as Chief Guest for the Republic Day.

“This panel discussion is taking place on the occasion of the visit of his excellency Egypt’s President, who will be coming to India as Chief Guest for Republic Day celebrations on January 26…President El-Sisi will be the chief guest on Republic Day when India and Egypt celebrate the 75th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations,” she said.

Talking about the visit, she also said that the forthcoming visit by Egypt’s President will be the third since he became the president. President El-Sisi made his first visit in October 2015.

“The current visit by President El-Sisi is very crucial not only from the bilateral perspective but also because the visit is taking place at a time when world politics is in flux. The Covid pandemic has caused unprecedented disarray and the Russian-Ukraine conflict has great consequences for global food energy, and fertilizer securities, especially for developing countries as President of G20 for the next year 2022-2023, India has invited Egypt as a guest country to G20 meetings,” Thakur said.

Earlier, in December, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed the Parliament that the Egyptian President has accepted the invitation to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in India.

“As far as Republic Day celebrations are concerned, we have invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the chief guest and he has graciously accepted the invitation,” said Jaishankar in Parliament while delivering his remarks on the ‘Latest Developments in India’s Foreign Policy’.

It is pertinent to mention that this is the first time that an Egyptian President will be the chief guest on India’s Republic Day.

“At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, will be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023. This is the first time that the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt will be the Chief Guest at our Republic Day,” the External Affairs Ministry said in the press release.

The MEA noted that India and Egypt have “warm and friendly relations” based on civilizational and deep-rooted people-to-people ties. (ANI)

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, whose upcoming directorial 'Gandhi Godse -Ek Yudh' recently triggered a controversy, on Monday, stated that the criticisms were based on the trailer

‘Gandhi-Godse…’: Director Says Watch It With Open Mind

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, whose upcoming directorial ‘Gandhi Godse -Ek Yudh’ recently triggered a controversy, on Monday, stated that the criticisms were based on the trailer.

He requested the critics to watch the film with an ‘open mind’.

Set in post-independence India of 1947-48, ‘Gandhi Godse-Ek Yudh’ depicts the war of ideologies between Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi. The trailer showcased a powerful glimpse into the tumultuous period following India’s partition.

Following the trailer release of the period drama film on January 11, the Congress recently sought a ban on the film in Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to ANI, the veteran filmmaker, who has many blockbusters such as ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’ to his credit, said, “It is important because historically, Gandhiji and Godse are two leaders against whom various allegations have been levied. While there are many who respect Gandhiji, there are also those who bad-mouth him. Same is the case with Godse, with some even calling him a terrorist.”

“So, I felt that there should be a stage for both of them where they are put together to put forth their viewpoints and debate on them. It will enable viewers shape an objective opinion on Gandhiji and Godse. The film will make them question if they really know Gandhiji or Godse as they thought they would. As a filmmaker, we have tried to put aside our personal choices and honestly put forward the opinions of both these characters from our political history,” he continued.

On the criticism he has been receiving for the film, Santoshi said, “It has come to my notice that some people, claiming to be followers of Gandhiji, burnt my effigies and it might happen in future too. This surprises me because people who truly believe in him will never resort to violence. They will never come out on the streets with lathis and burn effigies. It only goes to show that they actually don’t believe in Gandhian principles. They haven’t even seen the film and are reacting to the trailer. It shows that their motive is something else.”

He added, “I request people to watch the film with an open mind and not come to theatres with any preconceived notions. Those coming with an open mind will truly enjoy the film. There’s not been a single complaint against the film’s previews, not even from the censor board.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, waded into the controverry over the film, saying, “I’m not surprised because for them (the makers of the film), Godse is a hero, and if they portray him as a hero, it should not surprise any of us. But I cannot comment on the merits or the demerits of the film because I haven’t seen it and I don’t intend to see films which glorify murderers.”

‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ is set in an India of the filmmaker’s imagination where Mahatma Gandhi survives an assassination bid and meets his attacker, Nathuram Godse, in prison. What follows is a fiery debate and a clash of ideologies between them.

Produced by Manila Santoshi, with music composed by maestro AR Rahman, the movie is set to hit the theatres on Republic Day, January 26. (ANI)
