Rs 10 L Fine On Go First For Leaving Behind Passengers | Lokmarg

Rs 10 L Fine On Go First For Leaving Behind Passengers

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Go First airlines in connection to January 9 incident where its flight departed from Bangalore for Delhi, leaving behind 55 passengers at the airport.

Following the incident, the civil aviation watchdog issued a show cause notice to the Accountable Manager of M/s Go First, asking the carrier to explain why enforcement action should not be taken against them for dereliction of their regulatory obligations.
Go First submitted a reply to the show cause notice on Wednesday and the same was examined by the DGCA.

“Perusal of reply of M/s Go First reveals that there was improper communication, coordination between terminal coordinator (TC), commercial staff and crew regarding the boarding of passengers in the aircraft,” DGCA said on Friday, in a statement after examining the reply to the show cause notice.

The civil aviation regulator ruled that the airline failed to ensure adequate arrangement for “ground handling, preparation of load and trim sheet, flight dispatch and passenger/cargo handling” and, therefore, the enforcement action in the form of financial penalty was imposed. (ANI)

National Students Union of India (NSUI)

BBC Docu Row: Students Detained At DU’s Arts Faculty

Delhi Police on Friday detained students and members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) from outside the Faculty of Arts at the University of Delhi in the wake of a call by NSUI-KSU for the screening the BBC documentary series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Provisions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) are imposed outside the Faculty of Arts at Delhi University in the wake of a call by NSUI-KSU for the screening of a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A large number of security personnel have also been deployed outside the Faculty of Arts.

The BBC documentary has created a fresh row in the country after the government, earlier this month, denounced it and described it as a “propaganda piece” that is designed to push a discredited narrative. The government also pulled down the BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’ from various social media platforms including Twitter and Youtube.

The row further deepened after JNUSU members allegedly faced a “deliberate” power outage, while they were screening the impugned BBC documentary at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in the national capital.

The documentary leads to opposition attacking the government on freedom of speech despite the government terming it as a ‘propaganda piece’.

Earlier on Wednesday, 13 students were detained after some students tried to create a ruckus outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University over the screening of a BBC documentary.

The Delhi Police said the university administration did not allow the screening of the BBC documentary in the campus.

On Monday the administration of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi also warned against screening the BBC documentary on the campus after a group of students released a pamphlet inviting students to a screening of the film at the students union’s office at 9 pm on Tuesday (January 24).

The JNU Students Union wrote to the university administration over its firm advisory against the screening of the BBC documentary stating that they “do not seek to create any form of disharmony” and their purpose is to only watch it on the campus. It also mentioned in the letter that the students with “voluntary interest” would take part in the screening.

Later in the night, the JNU students marched toward Vasant Kunj police station claiming stone pelting by members of ABVP while the said documentary was being screened.

The protest was later called off after the police assured students of taking up the matter and looking into it immediately. (ANI)

Preparations On For Char Dham Yatra 2023: Dhami | Lokmarg

Preparations On For Char Dham Yatra 2023: Dhami

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday stated that the sacred Char Dham yatra, one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimages that take place annually in the Garhwal Himalayas will draw in a record number of devotees this year.

Talking to ANI, chief minister Dhami said, “The date of opening of the portals of Badrinath Dham has been announced, now the focus of the government will be that the yatra should be done in a grand manner.”
Dhami stated that a lot of devotees participated in the Char Dham yatra in 2022 and this year the government intends to provide better facilities for pilgrims.

“This year, we are making our preparations beforehand. Work on a Master Plan is also going on in Badrinath. We have to give a lot of facilities to the devotees and make their yatra safe, easy, and comfortable. We’ll work towards it with the blessings of Baba Badri Vishal. Only 100 days are left before the Char Dham yatra begins. Our yatra will be record-breaking this year and we are making all the preparations for it,” added Dhami.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister said that 70 percent of normalcy has returned to Joshimath, where cracks are appearing in buildings due to land subsidence and that the state government is preparing for the Char Dham Yatra.

Chief Minister Dhami also stated that the Char Dham Yatra would be starting in the next four months.

According to officials, the state government will review preparations for the yatra 15 days prior to its commencement. Since Joshimath lies at the entrance of the yatra and the last major halt before Badrinath, officials will review preparations to ensure that the land subsidence issue does not impact the yatra.

The portals of the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district will open on April 27 morning. As per tradition, the time and date for the opening of the famous temple were decided at a religious ceremony held at the erstwhile Tehri royal palace on the occasion of Basant Panchami, according to officials of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee.

The Badrinath Dham is one of the four ancient pilgrimage sites referred to as ‘Char Dham’ which also includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. It is situated in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand. It remains open for six months every year (between the end of April and the beginning of November).

Last week while speaking to the press, Dhami stated that the Char Dham Yatra would be starting in the next four months.

Meanwhile today, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also spoke about the BJP National Executive held recently to discuss a road map for the yatra.

The chief minister said, “A detailed work plan was made during the two-day meeting. The meeting was held in the presence of the National President of the Party JP Nadda. The issues on which we have to work on the national level were communicated to us.”

“Party workers discussed what work has been done and what needs to be done. Our work needs to reach every person, community, and the borders of nation. In the upcoming parliamentary elections, we will try to win by a two-thirds majority. Uttarakhand is going to become one the best states to contribute to nation-building,” affirmed the chief minister while speaking to ANI. (ANI)

Morbi Bridge: Chargesheet Filed, Oreva MD Named As Accused

A 1,262-page chargesheet was filed on Friday in the 2022 Morbi suspension bridge collapse case, that claimed the lives of 134 people.

Jaysukh Patel of Oreva group is included as an accused in the charge sheet.
Earlier on January 24, a Gujarat court had issued a warrant for the arrest of Jaysukh Patel of the Oreva Group in relation to the October 30 bridge collapse in Morbi in which 134 people were killed.

Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Oreva Group) had secured the contract to renovate, repair and operate the British-era bridge on the Machchu river in Morbi.

On Sunday, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Morbi, MJ Khan, issued an arrest warrant against Patel under section 70 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

“The court issued an arrest warrant against Jaysukh Patel of Oreva Group, which had a contract for the renovation of the Morbi bridge. He has not been arrested for 70 days.

“No lookout notice issued yet,” Government prosecutor Sanjay Vora told ANI yesterday.

Notably, Patel had moved to Morbi sessions court on January 20 for anticipatory bail in the case, while the hearing was adjourned till February 1 as the public prosecutor was not present.

Patel is not named as an accused in the FIR filed by the police in the case.

Nine persons, including four employees of Ajanta Manufacturing (Oreva Group), have been arrested so far in the case. They include two managers and an equal number of ticket booking clerks of the Oreva Group that was managing the British-era bridge.

As many as 134 persons lost their lives after a century-old suspension bridge fell into the Machchhu River of Morbi, Gujarat.

Gujarat High Court on November 7 took suo motu cognisance of the Morbi accident, issuing notices to officials, including those of the state Home department and seeking a report within a week.

The Supreme Court in November said the Morbi bridge collapse incident was an “enormous tragedy”, as it asked the Gujarat High Court, which was already holding hearings in the matter suo motu, to hold periodical hearings. (ANI)

Kangana Criticizes 'Pathaan' For Putting Out Pakistan In Good Light | Lokmarg

Kangana Criticizes ‘Pathaan’ For Showing Pakistan In Good Light

Shah Rukh Khan’s recent blockbuster ‘Pathaan’ has drawn sneaky criticism from Kangana Ranaut for portraying Pakistan, an “enemy nation” of India, and its intelligence agency ISIS in a “good light”.

In the thread of tweets, Kangana wrote, “All those who are claiming Pathaan is triumph of love over hate, I agree but whose love over whose hate? Let’s be precise, whose is buying tickets and making it a success? Yes it is India’s love and inclusiveness where eighty percent Hindus lives and yet a film called Pathaan which shows our enemy nation Pakistan and ISIS in good light is running successfully, it is this spirit of India beyond hate and judgements that makes it Mahan… it is the love of India that has triumphed hate and petty politics of enemies… Lekin all those who are having high hopes please note… Pathaan sirf ek film ho sakti hai… goonjega toh yahan sirf Jai Shri Ram… Jai Shri Ram.”

“I do believe Indian Muslims are patriotic and very different from Afghan Pathans … the crux is India will never be Afghanistan, we all know what is happening in Afghanistan, it’s beyond hell there, so apt name for the movie Pathan according to its storyline is the Indian Pathan,” Kangna added in her tweets.

This comes just one day after Kangana lauded Pathaan at the wrap-up party of her upcoming film ‘Emergency’. And it looks like Kangana is back raising eyebrows with her tweets.

Previously, Kangana had commented on Pathaan’s success and told reporters, “Aisi films chalni chahiye (such films should work). Pathaan acha kar rahi hai. Aisi films chalni chahiye aur I feel ki jo hamare Hindi cinema wale piche reh gaye hain, har insaan apne level pe koshish kar raha hai (Pathaan is doing very well. I feel films like this should do well, and we’re all trying to do what we can to bring Hindi cinema back to glory).”

Kangana’s Twitter account, which was blocked in May 2021, was restored on January 24, after over 20 months. However, an official blue tick from her profile is still missing. Her account had been suspended for ‘repeated violations’ of its hateful conduct and abusive behaviour policies.

On her return, Kangana tweeted: “Hello everyone, it’s nice to be back here”. She then shared a clip from the making of her upcoming film ‘Emergency’, which will release in October 2023.

‘Pathaan’ has received a massive response from viewers and SRK’s fandom globally has warmly welcomed the actor to his movie after four years. The film also entered the Rs 100 crore club on its opening day.

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, ‘Pathaan’ is Bollywood’s biggest opener as it minted Rs 106 crore gross, worldwide, on the first day of its release. (ANI)

ISIS Leader Bilal-al-Sudani Killed In US Military Ops

A US counter-terrorism operation in northern Somalia killed a senior Islamic State (ISIS) figure Bilal-al-Sudani, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

No civilians were harmed as a result of this operation that killed a number of other ISIS members in the assault operation that the US conducted on orders from President Joe Biden.
“On January 25, on orders from the President, the U.S. military conducted an assault operation in northern Somalia that resulted in the death of a number of ISIS members, including Bilal-al-Sudani, an ISIS leader in Somalia and a key facilitator for ISIS’s global network. Al-Sudani was responsible for fostering the growing presence of ISIS in Africa and for funding the group’s operations worldwide, including in Afghanistan,” the official release of the US Department of Defense quoted Austin as saying.

“This action leaves the United States and its partners safer and more secure, and it reflects our steadfast commitment to protecting Americans from the threat of terrorism at home and abroad. No civilians were harmed as a result of this operation. We are grateful to our extraordinary service members as well as our intelligence community and other interagency partners for their support to this successful counterterrorism operation,” Austin added.

Prior to last year’s end, US forces conducted an airstrike in Syria that resulted in the deaths of two senior ISIS figures, CNN reported.

Notably, in Somalia till date, the military operations have only paid heed to al-Shabaab fighters which are the dominant militant group in the region.

According to the first official, al-Sudani received sanctions from the US Treasury in 2012 for facilitating foreign fighters’ travel to an al-Shabaab training camp and providing funding. (ANI)

Sania Bids Adieu To Career At Australian Open

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna came second to Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos of Brazil in the Australian Open mixed doubles final on Friday at Melbourne Park as the Brazillian pair clinched their maiden Grand Slam.

Sania Mirza was competing in her final Grand Slam with Rohan Bopanna where the duo were defeated 7(7)-6(2), 6-2 by Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos.
Rohan Bopanna, who will turn 43 in March, and Sania Mirza, 36, had a difficult beginning because the latter was broken on his first serve.

In the fourth and eighth games, the Indian pair pounced on Luisa Stefani’s serves but lost the set in the tiebreaker as Rohan Bopanna once more struggled to hold his serve in the ninth game.

The Indian team, which advanced to the women’s doubles semifinals at Rio 2016, survived an early defeat in the second set. Still, Rafael Matos and Luisa Stefani worked well together to break Sania Mirza’s serve in the fourth game.

Sania Mirza won two Grand Slam tournaments at the Australian Open. She won the Australian Open women’s doubles title with Martina Hingis in 2016 and the Australian Open mixed doubles title with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2009.

The 2017 French Open mixed doubles championship, Rohan Bopanna won with Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada remains his solitary Grand Slam triumph.

The Indian team has defeated the defending Wimbledon winners Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski in three sets in the Australian Open 2023 semifinals.

“My professional career started in Melbourne. I couldn’t think of a better arena to finish my [Grand Slam] career at,” stated an emotional Sania Mirza in the post-match interview.

The WTA Doubles World No. 1 for 91 weeks, Mirza, comes in second place at the last Grand Slam competition of her career. Mirza said earlier this month that the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February will mark the conclusion of her professional tennis career. (ANI)

Release Surgical Strike Video: Congress' Rashid Alvi Backs Digvijaya Singh | Lokmarg

Release Surgical Strike Video: Congress’ Rashid Alvi Backs Digvijaya Singh

Amid the ongoing controversy over Congress leader Digvijaya Singh questioning the authenticity of the ‘2019 Surgical Strike’, Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Friday came in support of his party colleague and
asked the Centre to release the surgical strike video that it claimed it has.

“Government says it has a video (of a surgical strike) so what is wrong with Digvijaya Singh asking the government to show it? We’re not asking for proof (of strike) but the government should show the video it claims it has,” said Rashid Alvi while speaking to ANI.
Alvi’s reaction comes days after Digvijaya Singh’s remark on the surgical strike.

Digvijaya Singh had said the government talks of surgical strikes. “They (government) claim to have killed so many people but no proof is given,” Singh had said.

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the country has confidence in the security forces but can’t trust the BJP government. “We have faith in our security forces but can’t trust the BJP government,” he added.

Rashid Alvi further raised questions about various ministers’ statements surrounding the surgical strike.

“Sushma Swaraj, who was a minister in the government, had said that the air strike was done at a place where there was no possibility of anyone getting killed. Amit Shah claims that more than 300 terrorists were killed in the air strike. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claims that more than 400 terrorists were killed in the air strike,” Alvi pointed out.

Citing the above statements, Congress leader Alvi said that it varies and therefore if the government claims to have video proof it should be shown.

“These contradictory statements raise questions as to what exactly happened in the surgical air strike. That’s why the government if it claims that it has the video evidence of the air strike should make it public,” Rashid Alvi demanded.

Congress leader Alvi further sought an apology from the Centre in case it does not have video proof.

“If they do not have any video evidence to prove its claims, then the government should apologize,” he added.

In strong disapproval of Digvijaya Singh’s remarks on surgical strikes, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party leader had stated a “ridiculous thing” and that he disagrees with the views.

“I do not agree with what Digvijaya Singh said. We have full trust in our Army. If Army takes action, there is no need for proof. I disagree with his (Digvijay)’s statement and Congress’ official position is also that this is his opinion,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The party had officially also distanced itself from Digvijaya Singh’s remarks on Monday. (ANI)
