The new find in the Uttar Pradesh elections is Dimple Yadav, wife of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. From a reluctant and scripted first speech in her maiden speech Lok Sabha, she has emerged a much sought after speaker in the current campaign. She has addressed at least two dozen election rallies and plans to carry on till the campaigning for the last phase of elections get over.
Dimple surprised everyone by taking on prime minister Narendra Modi. In his response to his “adopted son” of UP remark, she recited an old Hindi favourite “Mere angne mein tumhara kya kaam hai”. Touching a sensitive nerve with the residents of eastern UP, she said “Mein pehli bar Purvanchal aye hoon, mujhe muhdikhali milegi, poora vishwas hai”. She has been identifying herself as a “Bhabhi” and seeking votes for their brother Akhilesh. No wonder watching the response she is getting, a large number of party candidates are keen that she campaigns for them.
