Nettaru Murder Case: NIA Raids Residence Of 3 Absconders In Bengaluru

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted extensive searches at the houses of three absconding suspects in the case related to the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Nettaru by cadres of the Popular Front of India (PFI) in Karnataka last year, the agency said on Wednesday.

Three locations were searched in two districts of Karnataka on Tuesday as part of NIA’s efforts to hunt down the absconders.

The NIA seized several electronic gadgets and documents during the searches at the houses of Abdul Nasir and Abdul Rahaman in Kodagu district and Naushad in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.

All three are suspected of harbouring the main assailants of Parveen Nettaru at various hideouts across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, said the NIA.

Besides the trio, five other accused are still absconding in the case, which NIA had taken over in August last year.

A total of 21 persons, including the absconders, have so far been chargesheeted by the NIA under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code and Arms Act in the case that is linked to the killing of Nettaru. Nettaru was hacked to death on July 26, 2022, in Bellare village of Sullia Taluk at Dakshina Kannada district by PFI ‘Killer Squads’ or ‘Service Teams’.

The PFI, which was banned by the Central government in September last year, has been indulging in such targeted ‘hate killings’ with the aim of driving a communal wedge and spreading communal hatred with its ultimate objective of establishing an Islamic Rule in India by 2047.

“Efforts to track down the absconding accused are continuing,” said the NIA. (ANI)

Delhi Court Sahul Judicial Custody

PFI Case: Delhi Court Remands Sahul To Judicial Custody

Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Thursday remanded Sahul Hameed to judicial custody who has been arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) from Madurai in connection with a money laundering probe against a banned organisation namely Popular Front of India (PFI).

The Vacation judge Chhavi Kapoor remanded Sahul Hameed to judicial custody till July 6. The accused was produced before the court after the expiry of three days of ED custody.
Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Naveen Kumar Matta for ED appeared for ED and submitted that an investigation is going on, accused may be remanded to judicial custody.

The fact of the case revolves around receiving higher money in violation of the law. It is alleged by the ED that the accused was operating from Singapore and was involved in the unlawful activities of the organisation.

While seeking an extension of remand on June 19, it was also submitted that the mobile phone of the accused contains relevant details which need to be confronted during the investigation.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, the accused was earlier in the process of collecting illegal money/terror funds from legitimate and illegitimate channels from Singapore and other places. He stated to have been deported to India. Upon receipt of inputs, he was intercepted and could not give an account of certain activities taken by him towards collecting funds for PFI.

ED counsels had informed the Court that the statement of the accused under section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was also recorded wherein he remained evasive in giving answers to certain material aspects collected during the investigation. Therefore ED arrested the accused.

Earlier the accused was remanded to ten days in ED remand which was extended on Sunday for one day. Again the accused was produced before the court on Monday.

Recently, the Special Court took cognizance of a chargesheet (Prosecution Complaint) filed by the Enforcement Directorate against several office bearers of Popular Front of India (PFI) in a special court in Delhi.

The court had noted that funds were used for the purpose of unlawful activities, inciting violence, which was allegedly held in North East Delhi in Feb 2020.

According to the ED, the accused persons have revealed that they have played an active role in bogus cash donations on behalf of PFI and in claiming and projecting PFI’s unaccounted cash raised through unknown and suspicious sources as untainted and legitimate.

ED had stated that the PMLA investigation has revealed that as a part of a criminal conspiracy hatched by PFI office bearers over the past many years, suspicious funds from within the country and abroad have been raised by PFI and related entities and have been clandestinely remitted to India in a concealed manner and deposited in their bank accounts over the years.

Earlier in March, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Tribunal upheld the decision of the Central Government decision to ban Popular Front of India and its affiliates.

The Tribunal has dismissed the allegations levelled by the organisation that one particular community is being targeted by the government. The Tribunal while passing the Judgement noted that the members of PFI and its affiliates are indulging in secessionist activities which were contrary to the social fabric of the country.

In September last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs declared the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates as an ‘Unlawful Association’.

The press statement issued in this regard stated that the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates or affiliates/fronts have been found to be involved in serious offences, including terrorism and its financing, targeted gruesome killings, disregarding the constitutional set-up of the country, disturbing public order etc. which are prejudicial to the integrity, security and sovereignty of the country.

Therefore, the Ministry of Home Affairs found it necessary to curb the nefarious activities of the organization and has hence declared the Popular Front of India (PFI) along with its associates or affiliates or fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as an ‘unlawful association’ under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Ban RSS Also So That No One Promotes Religious Superiority: DMK’s Elangovan

Ban RSS Also So That No One Promotes Religious Superiority: DMK’s Elangovan

DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan on Tuesday said that similar to a ban on the Popular Front of India, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) should also be banned in India so that no one is able to spread “religious superiority” in the country.

“Ninety per cent of Muslims do not support PFI. They are doing what RSS is doing. RSS should also be banned. Then no one would try to promote religious superiority in the country,” Elangovan said.
The DMK leader was responding to an interview of Amit Shah in which the Union Minister claimed that the Popular Front of India (PFI)was spreading radicalism in India and by banning the outfit, the central government has saved India.

“The PFI did not speak about religious superiority. Neither did they ask people to convert to Islam. They are Muslims. And this is their (BJP’s) natural hatred towards Muslims. This was the reason behind banning the PFI. There may be some radicals in the PFI and it’s okay to take action against them. It is quite funny on behalf of Amit Shah to say that by banning the PFI they have saved India,” said the DMK leader.

Elangovan pointed out that India has regressed in comparison to where it was in the year 2014.

“I think Modi and Amit Shah’s country is Gujarat. Whatever they see happening there, they think that it is happening elsewhere in the country. They should come out of Gujarat and talk to people,” Elangovan added.

“The country is going back. The economy is in a poor state. The value of Indian currency has depreciated. There is no development. I don’t know how Amit Shah has claimed that development happened in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule,” said the DMK spokesperson.

Reacting to Amit Shah’s statement about no political competition to BJP, the DMK leader said, “Except for Gujarat, they lost elsewhere. They lost the Delhi Municipal Corporation Election, lost in Himachal Pradesh and almost all the by-elections. How can they say that there is no competition?” he added.

In an exclusive interview with ANI earlier, Shah had said, “I feel that in 2024 there is no competition and everyone in the country is moving ahead with PM Modi.”

In the same interview, Shah also said, “We have banned PFI successfully…PFI promoted radicalism and religious bigotry. They were in a way trying to prepare raw materials for terrorism. So many documents have been found which show that their activities were not good for the country’s unity and integrity.”

The government had in September last year banned PFI and its associates for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for “terror links”. (ANI)

PFI Has ‘Killer Squads’ To Establish Islamic Rule By 2047: NIA Chargesheet

As part of its agenda to create terror, communal hatred, and unrest in society and to further its agenda of establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047, the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) formed secret teams called ‘Service Teams’ or ‘Killer Squads’ to carry out killings of its ‘perceived enemies’ and targets.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made these revelations in a charge sheet filed on Friday before a special court in Bengaluru pertaining to the killing of BJP’s Yuva Morcha district committee member Praveen Nettaru on July 26 last year in Bellare village of Sullia Taluk in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district. Nettaz was killed in full public view with lethal weapons to create terror among the people at large and especially among members of a particular community.

The charge sheet, which was filed against 20 PFI members, further mentions that “these ‘Service Team’ members were given arms as well attack training and surveillance techniques training in order to identify, list out and to mount surveillance on individuals and leaders belonging to certain communities and groups”.

“These ‘Service Team’ members were further trained to assault and kill identified targets on the instructions of senior PFI leaders,” said the NIA in the charge sheet.

In furtherance of conspiracy meetings by PFI members and leaders held at Bengaluru city, Sullia Town and Bellare village, said the charge sheet, adding “the head of district Service Team Mustafa Paichar was instructed to recce, identify and target a prominent member of a particular community”.

Of the 20 charge-sheeted PFI members, six are absconding and rewards have been declared for information leading to their arrest in the case.

The accused persons have been charge-sheeted under various sections of 120B, 153A, 302, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 16, 18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and Section 25(1)(a) of Arms Act.

Journalist on PFI Rise and Ban

Popular Front of India is an Islamic Version of RSS

KA Shaji, a South India-based journalist who writes on politics, human rights and environment, traces the rise of Popular Front and its communal agenda

Going by the genesis, a collective called Muslim Cultural Centre (MCC) was formed during the late 1980s in the Nadapuram region of Kozhikode district in north Kerala by certain wealthy Muslims of the region to fight the might of the agricultural labourers’ union of the CPI (M). Over the years, the MCC turned into the prototype of the National Democratic Front (NDF), which was later rechristened as the Popular Front of India (PFI).

In Nadapuram, most agricultural labourers were Hindu Ezhavas and tenants of wealthy Muslims. Gulf money also contributed to the financial growth of Muslims there while the agricultural workers were given peanuts. Most Muslim landlords were traditionally activists of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

CPI (M) firebrand leader A Kanaran inspired the agricultural workers to engage frequently in class struggles against the landlords. The struggles seeking solutions to injustice and inequalities, later evolved into communal clashes. Thereby ideology and politics disappeared, communal polarisations erupted and became entrenched. The clashes turned into Hindu-Muslim conflicts.

When the Ayodhya movement gained strength in the 1990s, MCC became the Babri Masjid Protection Committee. Its leaders wanted a state-level permanent mechanism to mobilise Muslim youth against both the BJP-RSS and CPI (M). On November 14, 1993, the NDF was formed. The shilanyas at Ayodhya created resentment among the Muslims in Kerala. But, IUML, the moderate alliance partner of the Congress in the state, failed to address the anger. Movements initiated by Abdul Nasar Mahdani and Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait were dubbed cult worshipping. In this context, the old MCC activists of Nadapuram coordinated radical elements across the state so as to ‘protect Islam’.

The NDF and PFI both began as cadre-based outfits. They recruited only fundamentalists. They organised closed-door training sessions. There was no transparency in their activities. While terming the BJP-RSS as their main enemies, they always resisted CPI (M) and left politics tooth and nail too. They attacked the IUML, accusing it of being a pack of cowards. It blamed the Congress for all the issues faced by Muslims in the country.

ALSO READ: ‘Every Patriotic, Peace-Loving Supports Ban on PFI’

The organisation infused hatred against other religions among young Muslims recruited from madrasas across the state. Religious teachings imparted to them declared that there is nothing beyond Islam’s teachings. Indeed, the NDF’s first target was not BJP or RSS, but those Muslims who were involved in inter-religious marriages. Many lost their lives, others limbs. It found blasphemy as the most heinous crime. The hand of a Christian professor was chopped off for alleged blasphemy.

The NDF or PFI have never been democratic. They are flush with funds but its source has largely been unknown. They ruined the IUML in the southern districts of Kerala and targeted moderate Muslim leaders. Many BJP and CPI (M) cadres were also killed. There have been murders, chopping off limbs, attacks against inter-faith marriages. The PFI played a pivotal role in the communal riot at Marad beach in Kozhikode. In recent years, it became a pan-India organisation through mergers and expansions.

In fact, the PFI is an Islamic version of the RSS. Banning it alone would not meet any purpose. It has to be opposed politically and ideologically. Democratic engagements with the community by secular forces is the sole and ultimate solution.

Indeed, the ban and the arrests of their members reek of BJP-RSS vested interests. But it is also true that the PFI mobilised Muslims on communal grounds. It wanted Muslims in the country not to have any democratic engagement with secular or democratic forces. Communists and the Congress were its proclaimed enemies. It favoured militancy. It has actually jeopardised the ‘Muslim situation’ in India. It has made ordinary Muslims insecure. It has caused severe damage to the Muslim cause and identity.

However, the entire syndrome exposes the limits of minority communalism. A single police action by a majority government can destroy any minority communalism build-up. But the ordinary Muslim will have to pay the price. They will get further alienated.

As long as the BJP-RSS is in power, no ultra-fundamentalist or rabidly communal Hindu organisation can be banned in India. They all have government support. The previous bans on RSS failed to yield any results. Democratic mobilisation of people in secular platforms is the only option to fight the BJP-RSS. Political education can help India survive the BJP-RSS. Minority organisations must stand solidly with secular, inclusive and democratic forces.

Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz UP President

Every Patriotic, Peace-Loving Indian Welcomes PFI Ban

Wasim Rain, UP President, All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, says the Popular Front of India was a threat to the sovereignty of nation. His views:

The Union Government’s decision to ban the Popular Front of India and its ancillary organizations is a long-awaited one. The message is loud and clear: Anti-national forces will be dealt with strictly. All peace-loving and patriotic citizens welcome the ban and believe it will send a strong message to those nefarious minds who dream of destroying the secular fabric and spirit of this country.

The ambit of the action (on the sister organisations of the PFI) also reflects that it is not a cosmetic step but taken in right earnest. It is well known fact among Muslim leaders that the PFI has been propagating anti-national sentiments, funding largescale protests to create anarchy, and radicalizing a particular section of our society. Of late, their actions had become blatant, as they thought being a minority group, there will no action taken against it.

From emerging media reports, it is evident that the PFI had been collecting funds illegally and was involved in recent anti-national activities (riots and killings). Now their cover as an alleged social organization is blown. The evidence (collected by the agencies) makes it clear that it was involved in disturbing the social and communal harmony of India.

Now, similar action is also anticipated against those organizations that claim to be working for the country under a similar disguise. The government should continue to scrutinise similar dubious groups which have been trying to radicalise and polarise society, with an anti-India agenda. Such organizations are using social media and other platform to mislead the young generation and trying to fan hatred in the country.

ALSO READ: ‘Court Must Settle Gyanvapi Dispute Once And For All’

We have seen videos at the PFI-sponsored protests where young children were raising contemptuous slogans against other communities. Such acts are not only anti-national but also anti-Islamic. All communities should reject the communal ideologies of such outfits.

The ban also exposed several groups which had taken oath to guard the Constitution but are now opposing the ban. One of them, a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh has even threatened a nationwide outrage. I would not like to name him. Even a barrister from south India shed crocodile tears, although he distanced himself from PFI. Many so-called `Islamic scholars’ who earlier defended PFI acts on TV channels have suddenly turned into traumatised puppies, with their tails firmly between their hind legs.

I would like to congratulate the Union government for doing its homework in advance and for conducting raids under a unified action, with lawful cooperation from state police. Such professionalism is unprecedented in such a nationwide raids. That is why there were little protest or `outrage’ over the arrests.

PFI Islamic Nation

PFI Planed To Turn India Into Islamic Nation: M’rashtra ATS Chief

Emphasizing the urgent need to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI), Maharashtra ATS chief Vineet Agarwal on Thursday said that the outfit was planning to turn India into an Islamic nation by 2047 and big leaders of the country including from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were their target.
Speaking to ANI, Agarwal said that it was very important to ban PFI because they were slow poison for the country.

“PFI was banned in time. Maharashtra ATS raided many places and arrested a total of 21 people and many electronic gadgets were also confiscated. Post the ban the organisation has been dissolved. Now, they don’t have any right to regroup or protest on any platform except on the legal platform,” said the ATS chief.

Agarwal said that the big leaders of the country and the people of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were on the target of PFI.

He further said that the PFI members used to portray themselves as persons associated with social development and physical education to give lectures to incite people.

“PFI had opened training centers in many places of the state and used to do anti-national work. PFI used to tell people in their coaching center by referring to old videos and incidents that your people have been subjected to a lot of atrocities, Mughals will not come to save you, you have to save yourself. PFI used to tell participants to keep items for self-defence like stones, knives, swords, bricks, sharp objects and other things on their terraces,” he said.

The ATS Chief said that till now more than 2,000 people were trained in Maharashtra.

“We are using tools to recover their data, they had planned to make India an Islamic country by 2047 by motivating people to commit hate crimes when India will complete 100 years of independence. but the government’s decision has toppled their plan. Every 5 years an agenda was prepared for the same but they have been stopped in the middle and the right steps have been taken,” said Agarwal.

“Target killing was their modus operandi by identifying the target,” he added.

He further said that the ATS has also seized the bank accounts of the arrested PFI members and terror funding is also being investigated.

“There are lakhs of rupees in the seized bank accounts of the PFI members and the money was being spent in the name of the outfit. After verifying the information from where the money was coming into the PFI fund, the ATS came to know that the money was coming from different places,” he added.

Earlier, Maharashtra Home Department has issued an order using powers under Section 42 of UAPA authorizing the Police commissioners and District magistrates to exercise their powers against the Popular Front of India (PFI).

“Maharashtra government home department has issued an order using powers under section 42 of UAPA and with the previous approval of MHA Central government. All the Powers under Sections 7 and 8 of UAPA will be exercised by Police commissioners and District magistrates against the PFI and other related associations,” said the sources from the Home Department.

The move comes a day after the Union Home Ministry imposed a ban on the Popular Front of India for “terror links”.

Other states including Kerala and Tamil Nadu have passed such orders declaring the PFI as an unlawful association.

“The power which has been directed to be exercised by the State Government under section 7 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, stands delegated to the District Magistrate/ Commissioner of Police/ Superintendent of Police concerned, within their jurisdiction,” the order by the Kerala government dated September 28 stated.

“The power which has been directed to be exercised by the State Government under section 8 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, stands delegated to the District Magistrate/Commissioner of Police/ Superintendent of Police concerned, within their jurisdiction,” it further added.

The order issued by the Tamil Nadu government dated September 28, it read, “The Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby directs that all the powers which are exercisable by the Government of Tamil Nadu under sections 7 and 8 of the said Act in relation to the aforesaid unlawful association, namely “Popular Front of India (PEI) and its associates or affiliates or fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala” shall also be exercised by the Commissioners of Police in the Cities and by the District Collectors elsewhere.”

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had made the announcement through a notification issued late on Tuesday night, declaring “the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect”.

Along with PFI, the ban is also imposed on its fronts, including Rehab India Foundation (RIF). Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as an “unlawful association”.

The notification clearly mentioned that the ban has been imposed against PFI and its associates, affiliates or fronts for “indulging in unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty, and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony of the country and supporting militancy in the country.” (ANI)

PFI Kerala General

PFI Kerala General Secy Handed Over To NIA

Senior PFI leader from Kerala Abdul Sattar, who had been allegedly absconding but was arrested soon after the radical outfit was banned in India, has been handed over to the NIA, a senior police official said Thursday.

Sattar, the Kerala state general secretary of the Popular Front of India, was arrested from his office in Kollam district Wednesday. His arrest came hours after the government announced a ban on PFI for allegedly having terror links.
Sattar had called for a state-wide hartal on September 23 against raids on the outfit and arrests of its leaders. During the hartal, there were reports of violence from Kerala.

Karunagappally Assistant Commissioner of Police Pratheep Kumar said the state police were on alert and watching Sattar for nearly a week.

“Sattar was initially absconding and appeared in public later. He was arrested from his office in Kollam and handed over to (National Investigation Agency) NIA officials last night,” the ACP added.

On Wednesday, after the government announced the ban on PFI, Sattar disbanded the outfit and asked all its members to cease their activities.

“All PFI members and the public are informed that the PFI has been dissolved. MHA has issued a notification banning PFI. As law-abiding citizens of our great country, the organisation accepts the decision,” he had said.

The Union Home Ministry has declared the PFI and its associates “as an unlawful association” and banned them for five years. It said that PFI and its affiliates operate openly as a socio-economic and political organisation “but they have been pursuing a secret agenda to radicalise a particular section of the society” to undermine the concept of democracy.

The ban has been imposed on PFI affiliates Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation.

The government’s move to ban the PFI came after two nationwide raids, including Kerala, Karnataka and Delhi, against the outfit within a week. More than 100 people linked to the organisation were detained during the raids. (ANI)

PFI Terror Funding

Twitter Account Of Popular Front of India Withheld In India

The official Twitter account of Popular Front of India (PFI) has been withheld in India by the social media platform “in response to a legal demand”, a day after the Centre banned the outfit under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for “terror links”.

The government had yesterday ordered the blocking of all the social media traces of the banned outfit, including its Twitter, YouTube channels, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement to ban the organisation through a notification issued late on Tuesday night, declaring “the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect”.

Alongwith PFI, the ban is also imposed on its fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF). Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as an “unlawful association”.

The notification clearly mentioned that the ban has been imposed against PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts for “indulging in unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony of the country and supporting militancy in the country.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government hereby declares the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates or affiliates or fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF). Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as an ‘unlawful association’,” reads the notification.

“The Central Government hereby directs that this notification shall, subject to any order that may be made under section 4 of the UAPA have effect for a period of five years from the date of its publication in the Office.”

The Centre issued the ban, citing the investigation of its agencies, mentioning “the investigations have established clear linkages between PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts”.

It is also accused that “some of the PFI’s founding members are the leaders of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and PFI has linkages with Jamat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), both of which are proscribed organisations”.

“There had been a number of instances of international linkages of PFI with Global Terrorist Groups the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts have been working covertly to increase radicalization of one community by promoting a sense of insecurity in the country, which is substantiated by the fact that some PFI cadres have joined international terrorist organisations.”

The PFI is involved in several “criminal and terror cases and shows sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority of the country and with funds and ideological support from outside it has become a major threat to the internal security of the country”, mentioned the notification. (ANI)
