Jagdeep Dhankhar new criminal laws

Dhankhar Hails Passage Of New Criminal Laws

Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday said that the new criminal laws passed by the Parliament have unshackled the Indian criminal justice system from the colonial legacy while keeping the focus on justice rather than punishment.

“Just a few days ago, three new criminal law bills received the assent of the President of India. The new laws have unshackled the Indian criminal justice system from the colonial legacy while keeping the focus on justice rather than punishment,” Dhankhar said.

Dhankhar was speaking after releasing a special postal cover to celebrate the 100th anniversary of legal luminary late Justice Konda Madhav Reddy at a college in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The programme was presided over by Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana and Lt Governor of Puducherry.

“Friends, it (the passage of the laws) marks a monumental, revolutionary change from Dand Vidhan to Nyaya Vidhan,” he added.

Asserting that all three organs – the Judiciary, the Executive and the Legislature are performing commendably and catalyzing the unprecedented rise of the country, Dhankhar said that the legal landscape of the country has been undergoing a great affirmative change in recent months, which will have a tremendous positive impact on its progress, and on the welfare of one-sixth of humanity.

“During the past decade, significant strides have been made in the judicial system, emphasizing digitalization through the e-Courts Project and the National Judicial Data Grid. These have not only enhanced transparency and accessibility, but have resulted in a reduction in the pendency of cases. Major legal reforms included the establishment of Commercial Courts and amendments to arbitration laws, aiming at faster dispute resolution. Initiatives like National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) have been taken to strengthen legal aid mechanisms for the underprivileged sections of society, ensuring access to justice for all,” he added.

What is further noteworthy is that under the current Chief Justice of India, the Supreme Court has taken several critical steps including bringing justice to people in their own language, he said, adding that the SC has gone paperless, and even the Courts (including advocates) are performing paperless.

“99 per cent of the District Courts are connected to the respective High Courts, and the High Courts are moving towards a paperless ecosystem,” he said.

Dhankhar also said that the passing of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam by Parliament was another landmark in our legal landscape.

“This law marks a long-overdue measure that will give women their rightful space in our democracy, and amplify the voice of one-half of our society,” he added.

The Rajya Sabha on December 21 passed the three criminal bills–the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023–replacing the IPC, the CrPC and the Evidence Act. The bills were earlier passed by the Lok Sabha.

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will have 358 sections (instead of 511 sections in the IPC). A total of 20 new crimes have been added to the bill, and the imprisonment sentence has been increased for 33 of them.

The amount of the fine has been increased in 83 crimes and mandatory minimum punishment has been introduced in 23 crimes. The penalty of community service has been introduced for six crimes and 19 sections have been repealed or removed from the bill.

The bills were first introduced during the Monsoon session of Parliament in August. After the Standing Committee on Home Affairs made several recommendations, the government decided to withdraw the bills and introduced their redrafted versions last week. (ANI)

It didn’t allow the final communique to be one-sided, it reflects the perfect balance of interest,” Lavrov said while addressing the joint press conference with EAM Jaishankar in Moscow on Wednesday.

“This is an example of how G20 and other groups should be working and…this includes the UN and the Security Council. We support India’s candidacy for the Security Council,” he added.

On his 58th birthday, Katrina took to her Instagram and shared a picture on her stories which she captioned, “Tiger Tiger Tiger May u always be just as you are …a true original (white heart emoticon). Happy birthday.”

The duo has worked in several films such as ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’, ‘Bharat’, ‘Yuvvraaj’, ‘Partner’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, and the recently released action thriller film ‘Tiger 3’.

On the on-screen chemistry with Katrina, the ‘Dabangg’ actor earlier told ANI, “I liked the characters of Tiger and Zoya very much. I believe the same chemistry wasn’t there in the earlier movies that we did together. Though viewers were fond of our on-screen pairing, we didn’t have chemistry till the ‘Tiger’ franchise came along. We did a film called ‘Yuvvraaj’ in which there wasn’t much chemistry on show. Thereafter, we did the ‘Tiger’ franchise in which there was a lot of chemistry as our characters were sketched very well. So the chemistry you see is not the Salman-Katrina chemistry but Tiger and Zoya’s chemistry.”

Talking about their upcoming projects, Salman has still not announced his next film.

Katrina, on the other hand, will be next seen in the thriller film ‘Merry Christmas’ alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Radhika Apte and Sanjay Kapoor.

Centre Gives Nod For New Bridge Over River Ganga In Bihar

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval on Wednesday for the construction of a new 4.56-kilometer-long, six-lane bridge over the Ganga connecting Digha and Sonepur in Bihar.

The bridge, once completed, will connect north and south Bihar. Large ships will be able to pass below the bridge, supporing inland water transport in the country.

If War Breaks Out With Pak Or China, Kashmir Will Be Affected: Farooq

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has once again warned that the situation in Kashmir could become like that of Gaza if a solution is not found through dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters here the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that if a war takes place between India and Pakistan or China, the Kashmir region will be affected.

“There can be a situation in Kashmir (like that in Gaza) if India and Pakistan do not go for dialogue… On one side we have Pakistan and on the other there’s China. If a war breaks out, the people of Kashmir will be affected I believe what (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee said: ‘you can change your friends but not your neighbours’. Even our PM says this is not the time to fight. So, I hope the time of talks begins now,” the NC chief said while responding to a media query about India’s relations with its neighbouring countries.

Notably, the relations between India and Pakistan have often been strained over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

However, their ties nose-dived after India abrogated Article 370 as Pakistan expelled the Indian envoy and downgraded the trade ties.

In 1999, former Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pakistan just a few months before the Kargil War began. In the year 2015, PM Narendra Modi held a meeting with Nawaz in Pakistan during a surprise visit to the country. Pakistan’s continuous attempts to infiltrate Indian territory with terrorists have been the reason for unfriendly relations.

The 26/11 Mumbai attacks left an unending outrage and pain among Indians. India-Pakistan ties nosedived after the abrogation of Article 370 in the year 2019.

However, the leader said that his party will be part of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Nyay Yatra beginning January 14.

“He is trying to remove the mistrust and hatred between communities. We were part of this effort earlier and we will be part of it again. We were a part of Bharat Jodo Yatra and will be a part of Bharat Nyay Yatra……” he added.

Abdullah also said that he had no expectations from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s Jammu and Kashmir visit but hoped that incidents like the civilian deaths in Poonch will not be repeated.

“I have no expectations from his visit. Can he bring back the dead? Does he have that power? But he can do this much that such injustice is not repeated,” Abdullah told reporters in Kulgam, 80 kilometres from Srinagar.

Three civilians were found dead after they were picked up by the Army for questioning following a terrorist ambush on two Army vehicles in Poonch last Thursday that killed four soldiers. (ANI)

Union Minister Amit Shah said the organisation and its members are involved in anti-national and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction)’/MLJK-MA is declared as an ‘Unlawful Association’ under UAPA. He added that anyone acting against India’s unity, sovereignty and integrity will not be spared.

“The PM @narendramodi government’s message is loud and clear that anyone acting against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of our nation will not be spared and will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Modi To Inaugurate Grand Railway Station In Ayodhya On Dec 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the grand railway station and airport being built in Ayodhya on December 30.

The Prime Minister will also oversee the preparations done in Ayodhya for the grand inauguration of Ram Mandir on January 22, 2024.

After inaugurating the rail station and airport, the Prime Minister will conduct a roadshow and address a public gathering, informed Gaurav Dayal, Commissioner of Ayodhya.

“The PM will show a green flag to the rails. After that, PM Modi will address the public meeting on the ground next to the airport. He will travel from the airport to the railway station so it will be in the form of a roadshow. Arrangements are being made to welcome him,” he said.

Preparations for the inauguration of the Ram Mandir on January 22 are in full swing. The Indian Railways has announced to run more than 1000 trains from different parts of the country to accommodate citizens visiting Ayodhya during the first 100 days of the Ram Mandir.

From cleaning and painting to the construction of the railway station being built in the shape of a temple of Prabhu Shri Ram of Ayodhya, the construction is almost on its final touch.

The grand railway station will comprise lifts, a tourist information centre, medical facilities. All types of extensive preparations are being completed.

Refurbished platforms, new signboards, escalators, and murals of Lord Ram painted on walls–these and many more would be the features of the Ayodhya railway station after the ongoing revamp.

This railway station is said to have as much mythological importance as much as it is modern. It is built like a grand temple from outside and is equipped with equally modern facilities from inside.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also revieweing the preparations being done for the inaugural ceremony of the Ayodhya Ram temple.

“The airport and the railway station which has been prepared in the first phase is going to be inaugurated on 30th December. According to estimates, after January 22, approximately 50,000-55,000 people will come to Ayodhya daily and the administration is busy preparing for the same,” Gaurav Dayal said.

Children dressed as characters from the Ramayana went door-to-door in Ayodhya to invite people for the consecration ceremony.

Meanwhile, BJP has decided to run a campaign for Ram Mandir celebrations starting January 1, in which BJP workers will go door to door in all the villages across the country and encourage ten crore families to participate in Diya Lightning programs for Ram Temple in Ayodhya. (ANI)
