Rajput protestors attacked Sanjay Leela Bhansali for 'distorting historical facts' in Padmavati
Bollywood celebrities have come out in support of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has been assaulted by members of Rajpur Karni Sena. The filmmaker has been shooting for his upcoming movie Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
The group has allegedly raised objections over depiction of Rajput, and barged on the sets to assault Bhansali. Eyewitnesses on the sets claim that the filmmaker was hit badly and hit clothes were torn too.
It is disturbing to note that the freedom of creative people is constantly coming under threat. Film fraternity has condemned the attack, which they have termed as ‘appalling and disgusting’. The protestors belonging to Rajput Karni Sena have no knowledge of what the film is about, but, they clearly do not want improper depiction of Rajput community.
The protestors reportedly were misinformed and were told that there was a dream sequence shot between Ranveer and Deepika, who played Allauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati respectively. On the basis of their presumptions, the protestors have vandalised the sets and slapped the filmmaker.
Music composer Vishal Dadlani, southern star Arvind Swami and Ashok Pandit have condemned the attack on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali by activists of a Rajput community group. A group of activists forced stopped the shooting of the filmmaker’s next directorial venture by vandalising the set at Jaigarh Fort, of Jaipur and also assaulted him. “What happened on Padmavati sets is appalling and heinous. Is this the state of the world,” Sonam tweeted. Dadlani wrote, “Sick! #SanjayLeelaBhansali one of our most respected filmmakers, attacked on his set. Hope the film industry comes together against this!”//
