Indian, Chinese Soldiers Face Off In Arunachal, Injuries Reported On Both Sides

A face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday led to minor injuries “to a few personnel” from both sides, sources said on Monday and noted that both sides immediately disengaged from the area.

The sources said on December 9, 2022, PLA troops contacted the LAC in the Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh which was contested by Indian troops in a firm and resolute manner.

“This face-off led to minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides. Both sides immediately disengaged from the area,” a source said.

They said as a follow-up of the incident, India’s Commander in the area held a Flag Meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity.

The sources said that in certain areas along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh there are areas of differing perception, wherein both sides patrol the area up to their claim lines. This has been the trend since 2006. (ANI)

Modi To Inaugurate Donyi Polo Airport In Itanagar Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh ‘Donyi Polo Airport’ at Hollangi in Itanagar on Saturday, said officials.

In 2019, PM laid the foundation stone for the construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi and inaugurated retrofitted Tezu airport.
The terminal at Hollongi is constructed approximately at a cost of Rs. 955 crore with an area of 4100 sq m and has a peak handling capacity of 200 passengers per hour.

The airport, which is the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh, has been developed in an area of over 690 acres, at a cost of more than Rs 640 crore. With a 2,300 m runway, the airport is suitable for all weather day operations.

“The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and the recycling of resources.Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only nine airports were built in the North-East. In a short span of eight years since then, the Modi government has built seven airports in the North-East,” read an official statement.

Airports in five northeastern states, namely, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have seen flights take off for the first time in 75 years.

“Aircraft movement in the North-East has also witnessed an increase of 113 per cent since 2014, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1817 per week in 2022,” added the statement.

The name of the airport reflects the traditions and rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and its age-old indigenous reverence to the Sun (‘Donyi’) and the Moon (‘Polo’). (ANI)

Arunachal Crash: Search, Rescue Ops Ends With Recovery Of 5th Body

With the recovery of the fifth and last body, the search and rescue mission in the October 21 helicopter crash in Arunachal Pradesh has concluded, an Army spokesperson said on Saturday.

The Indian army and Air Force Saturday ended searches after the mortal remains of fifth army personnel, on board the advanced light helicopter (AHL) that crashed on Friday was retrieved, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) (Tezpur) said today.
As per reports, three columns of army personnel were conducting the operation on foot, while one MI17 and two ALH choppers were pressed into service to trace the personnel.

The Indian Army Aviation Advance Light Helicopter (Weapon Systems Integrated) – ALH WSI based at Likabali (Assam), with five personnel on board had on Friday crashed at 10:43 am near Singging village, 25 kilometers away from the Tuting headquarters in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

The chopper had taken off from Likabali in the Lower Siang district.

Earlier the defense PRO had said that the mortal remains of the four military personnel were recovered and one was reported missing in the crash.

A court of inquiry constituted to probe the crash will focus on the ‘May Day’ call received by Air Traffic Control (ATC) suggesting a technical or mechanical failure on the chopper, officials said.

“Prior to the crash, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) had received a MAYDAY call suggesting a technical or mechanical failure,” the release said. “This will form the focus of the Court of Inquiry, which has been immediately constituted to investigate the causes of the accident,” read a statement by the Defence PRO.

Previously on October 5 this year, an Indian Army pilot died in a Cheetah helicopter crash near the Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh. (ANI)

Military Chopper Crashes Near Upper Siang: Arunachal

A military chopper crashed on Friday near Singging village, 25 kilometres away from the Tuting headquarters in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed near Tuting area in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district today at around 10:40 am today, according to Defence PRO, Guwahati.
Jummar Basar, Superintendent of Police Upper Siang, told ANI over phone, “The site of the accident is not connected through the road. A rescue team has been rushed and all other other details are awaited.”

Further details are awaited.

Earlier on October 5 this year, an Indian Army pilot lost his life in a Cheetah helicopter crash near Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh.

“The Cheetah helicopter flying in forward areas near Tawang crashed at around 10:00 AM during a routine sortie. Both the pilots were evacuated to the nearest Military Hospital,” Army officials had said. (ANI)
