Expressing his happiness over Assam being covered under the first phase of the “semiconductor technology revolution” in the country, the Chief Minister said it is a manifestation of the fact that under the current dispensation at the Centre, the Northeast of India is getting its due attention and the region cannot be termed a “neglected region” anymore.

“The people of Assam shall remain forever indebted to the Prime Minister for his role in the ushering of a new wave of development and progress in the state,” the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister exuded confidence that, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the nation will attain its rightful status of “Vishwa Guru” in the days to come.

The Chief Minister praised the Tata Group for coming forward with investments to the tune of Rs 27,000 crore and assured the multi-billion-dollar conglomerate of doing everything within the capacity of the Government of Assam to provide a conducive industrial environment.

He said the investment by Tata Group in Jagiroad will contribute greatly to the economic growth of the state and the country.

Referring to the foundation stone laid for the semiconductor unit at Jagiroad as an emotional moment for him, the Chief Minister said it has the potential to provide direct employment to as many as 15,000 youth of the state and provide indirect employment opportunities to equal number of job-seekers.

He praised the role of Bimal Bora and Pijush Hazarika, Ministers in the Assam Cabinet, for their tireless efforts in ensuring the idea of having a semiconductor assembly and test unit at Jagiroad turns into a reality.

He appealed to the people of Assam to shed the “culture” of strikes/andolans/hartals and embrace positivity and optimism so that Assam can attain its rightful position among the States of the Indian Union.

Union Minister of Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Chairman of Tata Sons N Chandrasekaran joined through the video-conference mode.

ULFA Accord Created To Secure People Of Assam: Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the ULFA accord has been created to secure the people of Assam and that nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore will be invested in the state through this agreement.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said,” I thank PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this. We created this accord instrument to secure the people of Assam.I thank the pro-talk faction of ULFA for signing the peace accord to secure the political rights of the indigenous people of the State.”

The Assam Chief Minister further stated that under his tenure, his government has taken stringent steps to reduce militancy in the state.

“A total of two peace accords were signed in 2023. 11 peace accords have been signed with the militants during this government’s regime. The era of militancy is almost over. A total of 3,842 militant cadres have come back to the mainstream,” he said.

Assam CM also informed that he is in touch with Paresh Baruah, leader of ULFA (I) and expressed hope that he will change his long-standing demands in the coming days.

The banned ULFA-Independent, led by Paresh Baruah, is the only major insurgent outfit left in the state.

“I talked with Paresh Baruah over the phone every 3-6 months. 90 percent of ULFA leaders, and cadres have now come to the peace process.I believe that constant discussion and negotiation will open up a new way and reduce the number of demands,” CM Sarma said.

Earlier, in a significant milestone, the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)’s pro-talks faction signed a tripartite Memorandum of Settlement pact with the Centre and the Assam government on Friday, agreeing to vacate all camps occupied by its armed cadres, engage in the peaceful democratic process established by law and maintain the integrity of the country.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and a 29-member delegation of the ULFA’s pro-talks delegation, including 16 ULFA members and 13 from civil society.

The separatist ULFA was formed in April 1979 in the aftermath of an agitation against undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh (erstwhile East Pakistan). It split into two groups in February 2011, with the Arabinda Rajkhowa-led faction giving up violence and agreeing to unconditional talks with the government. Paresh Baruah, who leads the other rebranded ULFA-Independent faction, is against the talks.

The pro-talks faction has sought constitutional and political reforms for the protection of the identity and resources of Assam’s indigenous people, including their right to land. The Union government in April sent it a draft agreement. An earlier round of talks between the two sides was held in Delhi in August. (ANI)

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday arrived at Nalbari on a day-long visit during which he launched as many as 12 projects aimed at transforming the district into one of the most progressive ones on all fronts in the State.

The total cost of the 12 projects comes to about Rs 680 crore.

Among the projects launched today is the district Sports Stadium Complex at Sariahtoli to be executed at the cost of Rs 51 crore, beautification works of Nalbari town at the cost of Rs 106 crore, the integrated Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex at an approximate cost of Rs 50 crore, upgradation of Government Politechnic Institute and Industrial Training Institute at the cost of Rs 5 crore, a science centre and planetarium with the first-ever 3D projection system in the State, to name a few.

Several road development projects running into an aggregate of nearly Rs 200 crore were also launched.

Addressing a public meeting at the upcoming district Sports Stadium Complex at Sariahtoli, the Chief Minister exuded confidence these initiatives would go a long way in meeting the aspirations of the residents of Nalbari district.

The Chief Minister stated that these initiatives have the potential to radically transform Nalbari district into one of the most progressive districts on multiple fronts in days to come.

He appealed to the people of the district for their cooperation and support in the government’s endeavour for their socio-economic and educational uplift.

He also announced that he would look into the possibility of construction of a state-of-the-art modern sports stadium at Samata.

The Chief Minister stated that in the next couple of months, projects worth a whopping Rs 40,000 crore would be either inaugurated or launched across various districts. The wave of growth and development that has been unleashed by the current regime in the State is a manifestation of the importance welfare of all sections of the society is being accorded, he added.

Referring to the period when one had to resort to strikes and demonstrations to get a genuine popular demand fulfilled, Chief Minister Sarma said genuine aspirations are being taken care of by the current regime on its own, as it understands the pulse of the public.

The Chief Minister also spoke about various initiatives aimed at the welfare of the public, especially those aimed at poverty alleviation, while appealing for mass participation in these programmes.

Gujarat Polls: Himanta Slams Kharge’s Tea Remarks

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that dogs have a higher value in the Congress party in comparison to humans.

Sarma’s comment came as a reaction to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s tea remark. Earlier on Sunday, Kharge stoked a controversy with his remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kharge, while addressing a public rally at Dediapada in the tribal-dominated Narmada district of poll-bound Gujarat, said, “A person like you (PM Modi) claims to be poor. I am also poor, I am one of the untouchables. People drank your tea, nobody would’ve had my tea.”

“Then you say that you are poor and somebody abuses you. If you say it for sympathy, then people have become smarter now. If you lie once or twice, people will hear but how many times will you lie? He’s the leader of lies..,” Kharge added.

Earlier on Monday, Sarma told ANI, “Mallikarjun Kharge said, no one has tea with me. So maybe Rahul Gandhi doesn’t have tea with Kharge Ji and Congress follows such practices. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi should tweet a backdated picture in which he could be seen having tea with Mallikarjun Kharge.”

“What I feel is that dogs have a higher value in the Congress party in comparison to humans. So Mallikarjun Kharge’s comment that no one has tea with me may be partially correct,” Sarma added. Sarma addressed a press conference in Ahmedabad, the capital of the poll-bound state.

Gujarat has been a BJP stronghold for a long and the party has set its sights on returning to power for the seventh term.

In the 2017 Assembly polls, the BJP won 99 of the total 182 seats. The party has been in power in the state for the last 27 years.

However, it faces a stiff electoral challenge from the AAP, which is eyeing a big electoral footprint in the state after storming to power in Punjab.

Congress also hopes to put its best electoral foot forward to unseat the BJP.

The counting of votes for Gujarat will take place on December 8. (ANI)

UP Govt To Make Bundelkhand Hub Of Wildlife Tourism | Lokmarg

Kaziranga National Park, Tiger Reserve Reopens For Tourists

The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, were reopened on Sunday for the 2022–23 season of tourists.

In a general notice issued by Ramesh Kumar Gogoi, Divisional Forest Officer of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division in Bokakhat, he stated that currently, the park is partially open only for Jeep Safari in two ranges—Kashiranga Range, Kohora, and Western Range in Bagori—due to the conditions of the roads.

“At present, tourists are allowed to travel up to Bimoli Tiniali via Donga tower under the Western Range, Bagori and from Mihimukh via Daflang tower to Vaichamari Junction under the Kaziranga Range, Kohora till further notification/orders,” the DFO said in the notice.

On September 22, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Sadhguru Vasudev opened the Kaziranga National Park for tourists for this season.

Chief Minister Sarma, on the day, also unveiled three rhino statues at Mihimukh in Kaziranga along with Vasudev.

These rhino statues have been created using the ashes collected from burning rhino horns. It may be noted that on September 22, last year, the Assam government made history when a stockpile of 2,479 rhino horns was consigned to flames to send across a strong message to the poachers and illegal horn traders that rhino horns have no medicinal value.

The rhino statues thus created are an attempt to immortalize the efforts and dedication of those who selflessly protect Assam’s pride, the great one-horned rhinoceros. (ANI)

Demolished Madrasas Were Al-Qaeda Offices: Assam CM

A day after the demolition of madrasas in Assam’s Goalpara district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said all demolished madrasas were not madrasas but Al-Qaeda offices.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Sarma said, “All demolished madrasas were not madrasas but Al Qaeda offices. We demolished 2-3 and now the public is coming to demolish others. The Muslim community is coming to demolish, saying that they do not want a madrasa where the work of Al-Qaeda is done. That changes madrasa’s character.”
The Chief Minister’s statement came after local residents of Pakhuria Char in Assam’s Goalpara district demolished a madrasa on Tuesday after a cleric associated with it was held for alleged anti-national activities.

“Locals took the initiative to demolish a madrassa. The government was not involved in it. They were surprised that the jihadi who was arrested was a teacher in the madrassa. People have given a strong message that they do not support jihadi activities,” Goalpara Superintendent of Police VV Rakesh Reddy told ANI.

“Today, the locals of Darogar Alga, Pakhiura Char in Goalpara district voluntarily demolished the madrassa & the residence adjacent to the madrassa which was previously used by two suspected Bangladeshi nationals as a strong resentment towards the Jihadi activities,” said the Assam Police CPRO.

In the last few weeks, four madrasas have been demolished, with the first three being pulled down by government authorities. Earlier on August 4, the government authorities demolished Madrasa Jamiul Huda Madrasa at Moirabari in Morigaon district.

Earlier on Saturday, two suspected terrorists linked with the Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) terror groups were arrested by the Assam police in the Goalpara district.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abdus Subhan, Imam of Tinkunia Shantipur Mosque under Mornoi police station and Jalaluddin Sheikh, Imam of Tilapara Natun Mosque under Matia police station in Goalpara, after they were grilled by the police for several hours.

Goalpara SP VV Rakesh Reddy had said that both the aforesaid persons were arrested after they were grilled for hours.

“We have gotten input in July this year from arrested Abbas Ali who is also linked with Jihadi elements. During the interrogation, we found that they were directly connected with Barpeta and Morigaon modules of AQIS/ABT in Assam,” the SP had said.

“During the house searches of the accused persons, a number of incriminating material related to the Al-Qaeda, Jihadi elements, posters, books among other documents were seized along with the mobile phones, SIM cards and ID cards,” he had added.

The senior Assam cop further had said that they (accused) have also given logistic support to the Jihadi terrorists who came here from Bangladesh.

“The Bangladeshi nationals are absconding and the arrested terrorists had given shelter to the Bangladeshi terrorists in Goalpara. The arrested persons had organized one Dharma Sabha in December 2019 at Sundarpur Tilapara Madrassa under the Matia police station where many Bangladeshi nationals with linkages to AQIS were invited as guest speakers,” the police officer had said.

He had further disclosed that these arrested persons were involved in providing logistic support as well as sheltering the Bangladeshi nationals, who are currently absconding.

“They confessed being members of AQIS and recruited Ansars/Sleeper Cells in Goalpara and revealed direct funding and supports have come from the absconding Bangladeshi terrorists,” SP VV Rakesh Reddy had added.

A fresh case has been registered at Matia police station case number under sections 120(B), 121, 121 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) RW and sections 18, 18 (B), 19, and 20 of the UA(P) Act.

Earlier on July 28, 11 persons were detained in a major crackdown in Assam for their alleged links with the global terror outfits including AQIS and ABT. (ANI)
