Muslim World League Chief Meets Modi

Muslim World League Secretary General Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed a wide range of issues, including Indian diversity within the framework of its national constitution.

Taking to Twitter, the Muslim World League organisation informed about the meeting between the two leaders and wrote, “At the beginning of his visit to India, during which he met with all Indian components.”
“The Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, received this morning, His Excellency the Secretary-General, Sheikh Dr. #محمد_العيسى During the meeting, a number of issues were reviewed, including Indian diversity within the framework of its national constitution and its civilized principles,” the tweet added.

Al-Issa who is the current Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), an organisation based in Saudi Arabia and representing Muslims worldwide is on a five-day visit to India that began on July 10.

While delivering an address at an event at the India Islamic Cultural Centre in the national capital organised by the Khusro Foundation earlier today, Saudi Arabia’s former Minister for Justice said that India with its diversity, is “a great model for coexistence” and that the country can send a message of peace to the world.

“We have talked just moments ago about the different components in the Indian society and we have been in the past days engaging with them. And I know that the Muslim component of the Indian society, they are, as I said, proud of their Constitution and proud of their nation and they are proud of the brotherhood that they share with the rest of the components of the Indian society” al-Issa said in the national capital today.

Appreciating “Indian wisdom”, al-Issa said, “We reach out with the different components and diversity for the common objectives that we share. We have heard a lot about Indian wisdom and we know that it has contributed a lot to humanity…”

“We know that here coexistence is very important… we also work on promoting stability and harmony all over the world. We know that the Indian component, with all its diversity, is a great model for coexistence not only in just mere words but also on the ground.”

The visiting Saudi delegate said that his organisation is working across the world to promote religious awareness. (ANI)

Indian Muslims Are Proud Of Being Indians: Sheikh al Issa

Saudi Arabia’s former Minister for Justice and World Muslim League Secretary General Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim al-Issa, who is on a six-day visit to India, has said that ‘Indian Muslims are proud of being Indians’ and that the country is a great model for coexistence for the entire world.

In an address in the national capital today, al-Issa said, “We know the Muslim component is an important component of India’s diversity. Indian Muslims are proud of being Indians. Religion can become a tool for cooperation. We want to reach out to everyone for understanding. Indian wisdom has done a lot for humanity. India is a great model for coexistence for the entire world. Appreciating the rich history of India, the World Muslim League Chief said that it is the need of the hour to establish communication between the cultures.

He underlined that diversity nurtures good relationships between cultures.

“We appreciate the history and diversity of India. Need of the hour to establish communication between cultures. Diversity promotes good relationships between cultures. MWL has alliances with different cultures of the world. Unity in diversity is the way forward. I have many friends in the Hindu community,” al-Issa said.

The World Muslim League Chief also said that a true sense of optimism in India is seen between communities.

Al-Issa said, “Tolerance needs to become a part of our lives. India despite being a Hindu-majority nation has a secular constitution. We want to strengthen understanding between faiths. There are negative trends in the world and we have to work for strengthening common values. In my interactions, I found Muslims are proud of being Indians. There is a true sense of optimism in India between communities. Diversity is a great way to protect Constitution and stability. Education promotes a great role in coexistence.”

The visiting Saudi delegate said that his organisation is working across the world to promote religious awareness.

“MWL is open to dialogue with everyone. Islam is not only about tolerance but Islam is about forgiving others. India is an inspiration to the rest of the world for being open to dialogue. Our partnership with India is a message to the whole world. We deeply value Indian wisdom. India is very open to visits from everyone. This alliance of civilisations is a message of harmony to the whole world,” he added.

He further stated that the Muslim World League in cooperation with the United Nations and their leadership have launched an initiative titled “Building Bridges between the East and the West” from the platform of the United Nations.

“Yes, we can cooperate together, and yes, we can live in peace together,” he said.

Al-Issa arrived in India on Monday and is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Minister for Minority Affairs Smriti Irani, and according to sources he is likely to call on President Droupadi Murmu.

He will also meet the leadership of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and interact with a gathering of distinguished faith leaders at the Vivekanand International Foundation, sources said, adding that he is scheduled to visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal. As per sources, he might visit Akshardham Temple in the national capital during his visit and meet with some prominent personalities. (ANI)

Muslim World League Secy General To Arrive In India On July 10

Muslim World League Secretary General Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa is set to arrive in New Delhi on July 10 on a six-day visit, the sources said.

Upon his arrival in India, Al-Issa will be meeting India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for a one-on-one in the evening.
On July 11, at 11 am, on the invitation of the Khusro Foundation, Al-Issa will address a gathering of prominent religious and community leaders, academics and media at BS Abdur Rahman Auditorium at the India Islamic Cultural Centre.

The National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval shall also address the gathering. Al-Issa will be in India from July 10-15.

As per sources, Al-Issa is expected to meet India’s Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar, and Minister for Minority Affairs Smriti Irani, and he may also call on the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.

He will also meet the President of ICCR and interact with a group of distinguished faith leaders at Vivekanand International Foundation. As per sources, he might visit Akshardham Temple and meet some prominent personalities.

During his stay in the national capital, an important part of his engagement will also be the visit to Jama Masjid Delhi for Friday Prayers. He is also scheduled to visit Agra.

Notably, Al-Issa is an Islamic scholar and a leading voice on moderate Islam. He is also a promoter of inter-faith dialogue and world peace.

He is a prominent religious leader, Islamic scholar and reformist from Saudi Arabia. Before being appointed as the Secretary General of the Muslim World League in 2016, Al-Issa served as the Minister of Justice in the Saudi Cabinet.

As the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, an influential non-governmental organization representing Muslims worldwide, Al-Issa has spearheaded initiatives to build partnerships and strengthen relations between diverse communities, faiths, and nations.

He also serves as the chairman of the Centre for Responsible Leadership, a body of globally influential government, faith, media, business, and community leaders working together to solve the challenges facing humanity and the world today. (ANI)
