Kamal Haasan Condoles Death Of DMDK Chief Vijayakanth

Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan extended condolences over the demise of DMDK chief and actor Vijayakanth on Thursday.

Vijayakanth passed away in Chennai aged 71 after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier in the day.

“The news of the death of my beloved brother Vijayakanth, the founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam, a unique actor and captain of Tamil cinema, who was loved by all, is deeply saddening. He was the creator of innovative ideas in Tamilnadu politics,” Kamal Haasan said in a post on X.

“Fearless courage was his hallmark. Vijayakanth, a revolutionary artist who made his mark in both the fields of cinema and politics, will remain forever in our memories. I offer my heartfelt condolences to all his family, volunteers and fans who are grieving his loss,” he added in his post.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also conveyed condolences to Vijayakanth’s bereaved kin.

“I am deeply saddened to learn that Vijayakanth, President of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam, former Leader of Opposition and dear brother passed away due to ill health. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved Premalatha Vijayakanth, Annarath’s wife and DMDK General Secretary, her family and her volunteers,” EPS posted from his official handle on X.

“I pray that the soul of Vijayakanth, who has done many active works in public life and the field of art and is affectionately known as Captain by the people, rests in the shade of Lord Thiruvadi,” he added.

The mortal remains of Vijayakanth were taken to the DMDK office in Koyambedu from his Virugambakkam house in Chennai.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister MK Stalin paid floral tributes to Vijaykanth at his Chennai residence.

Calling the latter’s demise a tragedy for Tamil Nadu and the film industry, CM Stalin said that the news of the DMDK chief’s death brought “shock and pain”.

The Chief Minister’s Office in a statement said the DMDK chief will be laid to rest with full state honours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and BJP state chief K Annamalai, too, condoled the demise of Vijayakanth.

Widely known as ‘Captain’, Vijayakanth’s life is marked by a successful career in the Tamil film industry.

He founded Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam in 2005.

Vijayakanth served as the leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from 2011-2016.

He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing the Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies. (ANI)

Kamal Haasan Joins Cast Of ‘Project K’

Legendary actor Kamal Haasan is the new addition to the action thriller film ‘Project K’ which also features Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan.

Taking to Instagram, Prabhas, on Sunday shared an announcement video of the ‘Vikram’ actor joining the cast of ‘Project K’.
He captioned the video, “A moment that will be etched in my heart forever. Honored beyond words to collaborate with the legendary @ikamalhaasan sir in #ProjectK. The opportunity to learn and grow alongside such a titan of cinema is a dream come true moment.”

Helmed by Nag Ashwin, the film is all set to hit the theatres on January 12, 2024.

Confirming the news, Haasan said in an official statement, “50 years back when I was a dance assistant and an assistant director the name Ashwini Dutt loomed large in the production sector. Both of us are coming together after 50 years. A brilliant director from our next generation is at the helm. My co-stars MPrabhas and Deepika are also of that generation . I have worked with Amit Ji before . Yet every time it feels like the first time. Amit Ji keeps reinventing himself. I am also emulating that inventive process. I am eagerly waiting for Project K. Whatever position the audience place me at, my primary quality is that I am a film buff. That quality will keep applauding any new attempt in my industry. Let mine be the first applause for Project K. With our director Nag Ashwin’s vision I am sure that applause will echo across our country and the world of cinema.”

Director Nag Ashwin also shared his excitement about Kamal Haasan joining the cast of the film. He said, “For an actor like Kamal sir, who has done so many iconic roles, it’s a huge honour to attempt to do something new. We are all super excited and privileged that he agreed to come onboard and complete our world.”

‘Project K’ is a bilingual film shot simultaneously in two languages i.e Hindi and Telugu across various locations. The film will also mark Deepika’s debut in the Telugu film market.

Kamal Haasan Admitted To Hospital, Will Be Discharged Soon

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC), a hospital in Porur, Chennai on November 23, following mild fever, cough, and cold.

According to the official statement from the hospital, the 68-year-old star is ‘recovering well’ and will soon be discharged. The official release stated, “Sri Kamala Haasan, was admitted on 23.11.2022 with mild fever, cough & cold. He is recovering well and will be discharged in a day or two.”
The actor-turned-politician met Telugu director K Viswanath on Wednesday at his house in Hyderabad. A few hours later, news of his hospitalisation emerged. Kamal posted a picture from his meeting on his official Instagram handle, where he can be seen receiving the director’s blessing. In the photo’s caption, he wrote, “Met the master K Viswanath sir at his home. Lots of nostalgia and respect!!”

Meanwhile, coming to his work front, he is currently busy hosting the sixth season of Bigg Boss Tamil. He is currently busy with the filming of Shankar’s Indian 2. Additionally, he hosts Season 6 of Bigg Boss Tamil. Furthermore, he will appear in Mani Ratnam’s KH 234. (ANI)
