Befitting Answer On May 10: Modi

People Of K’taka Will Give Befitting Answer On May 10: Modi

Coming down heavily on Congress for drawing parallels between a snake and Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister on Sunday said that the people of Karnataka will give the party a “befitting answer” in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, in an election rally in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi on Thursday, said, “PM Modi is like a ‘poisonous snake’, you might think it’s poison or not. If you lick it, you’re dead.”
Lashing out at Congress over the remark, PM Modi said, “Today when I am fighting against corruption, Congress is disturbed the most. Congress is now threatening. They say ‘Modi teri kabra khudegi’. Congress’ topic in Karnataka elections is snake’s poison. They are comparing me with snake and seeking votes from people. For me, people of the country are a form of Lord Shiva. I accept being the snake on the neck of god-like public. The people of Karnataka will give them a befitting answer on May 10.”

PM Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress terming the party as an “outdated engine” and said that it halts development and gives fakes guarantees.

“Congress is an ‘outdated engine’. Development halted due to them. Congress has a bundle of fake guarantees. They don’t fulfil any promise made to the public. ‘Unfulfilled guarantees’ are their record. They betrayed the public, but BJP fulfilled all the guarantees by doing several development works,” PM Modi said while addressing a public meeting here.

Notably, Congress has promised a number of guarantees to the people of Karnataka ahead of the state Assembly polls slated on May 10, including 200 units of free electricity.

The Prime Minister further said that corruption has always prospered under Congress and said that only the BJP can act against corruption.

“Congress has a reputation of 85 per cent commission. People have no faith in their govt. One of their Prime Ministers said that he sends Rupee 1 but 15 paise reach the ground. Congress has always done appeasement politics. BJP is not for appeasement but for satisfaction. Congress has always grown under corruption. Only BJP can take immediate action on corruption,” he said.

“Congress has done nothing for the farmers. They made promises to them but gave nothing to them. It was BJP who gave Rs 2.5 lakh cr to them (farmers) in their accounts. They always neglected the poor. We are constantly working for the development of the farmers,” he added.

Hitting out at Congress and JDS which are contesting the elections separately, PM Modi said that both the parties are the “biggest hindrance” in the development work and added that the unstable government cannot have a “vision”.

“Unstable governments can’t have a vision. During the Congress regime, the world was hopeless of India, but as soon as BJP came to power, the world now looked up to India as a bright spot. Karnataka has decided to elect BJP. The double-engine govt is very important in the state for continuous development. During Congress and JDS rule the development pace slowed down,” he said.

PM Modi said that Karnataka has to be saved from the “corrupt government of Congress and JDS”.

“Today’s gathering will make Congress and JDS lose sleep. Both parties are the biggest hindrance in the process of development. The public has clean-bowled them. We have to save the people of Karnataka from the corrupt govt of Congress and JDS,” he said.

The Prime Minister has hit the ground to campaign for the BJP in the last leg of the campaigning, in which he is conducting a number of poll rallies and roadshows to turn the tide in favour of the party, in what is expected to be a tripartite contest among BJP, Congress and JDS.

Karnataka will go to Assembly polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13. (ANI)

“The Karnataka elections are also being considered as the semi-finals of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. That’s why BJP is showing more focus on Karnataka than any other state,” sources said.

The BJP is seeking a second term in the state and has exuded confidence in returning to power with a full majority.

Karnataka polls

Karnataka Polls: 52 Fresh Faces In BJP’s First List

BJP on Tuesday declared the first list of candidates for Karnataka assembly polls, declaring names on 189 seats.

The candidates were announced at a press conference addressed by union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the party’s poll incharge in Karnataka, and party general secretary Arun Singh.
Arun Singh said that the party has given tickets to several young faces.

“Fifty-two out of 189 are fresh candidates,” he said.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will recontest from the Shiggaon constituency.

Arun Singh said 32 candidates belong to the OBC community while the list has 30 candidates from the Scheduled Caste community.

He said BJP’s graph is growing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Congress is facing divisions and groupism while JD-S is a sinking ship,” he said.

BJP leaders said that the party has done an elaborate exercise of feedback before deciding on party candidates and expressed confidence of the party again forming government in the southern state.

Congress has already declared 166 candidates in two lists.

Tharoor on Mis governance In Bengaluru

Cong A Respectable Alternative To Misgovernance In Bengaluru: Tharoor

Hitting out at Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government in Karnataka, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said people of the poll-bound southern state have endured misgovernance in the last four years.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Sunday, Tharoor said when there is misgovernance and “there is nothing to see”, people inevitably wonder what they need the government for.
“When there is misgovernance and there is nothing to see, people inevitably wonder what they need the government for. People are interested very much in seeing the Congress as a respectable alternative to the misgovernance they’ve endured in the last 4 years,” said Tharoor.

He said there are essential needs of the people that have not been met by the BJP government and the Congress has already come up with specific promises to fulfil people’s needs.

The Congress MP said IT investment in the state has been plummeting for the last 3-4 years.

“Bengaluru has such great potential. It is so sad that the city, which was evidently the most favoured destination for IT investment till a few years ago, has seen investments plummeting over the last 3-4 years,” he said.

On Sharad Pawar’s statement that there was no need for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg-Adani row, he said that NCP chief’s logic can be understood as the ruling party will have a 50 per cent majority in the panel, if one is formed to probe the claims against the Adani Group.

“His (Sharad Pawar) logic can be understood because the rule for constituting a JPC is that the ruling party will be part of it, and above 50 per cent of members in the JPC will be from the NDA, if one is formed. But we still want the Opposition to ask questions and seek answers and evidence through the JPC. The NCP stood with us in the Parliament and during our protest march to Vijay Chowk,” said Thaoor.

With the Karnataka Assembly polls drawing near, a meeting of senior Congress leaders regarding the selection of candidates for the Karnataka elections will be held at party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence this evening.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to attend this meeting.

The Congress is yet to announce the names of candidates for 58 seats.

The Congress, on March 25, announced its first list of 124 candidates for the Assembly polls. The list included former chief minister Siddaramaiah and the party’s state president DK Shivakumar.

Elections in Karnataka are slated to be held in a single phase on May 10 and the counting of votes will be held on May 13. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah will be contesting from the Varuna constituency while DK Shivakumar has been fielded in Kanakapura.

Siddaramaiah had expressed his interest to contest from the Kolar constituency but the Congress High Command instructed him to drop the plan following disagreements between the party’s local leaders in the constituency. The party has fielded M Roopakala from the Kolar Gold Field constituency.

The ruling BJP currently holds a majority in the Assembly with 119 seats while the Congress and the JD(S) have 75 and 28 seats respectively.

All three key political players in the state — BJP, Congress and the JD(S) — have been exchanging barbs as their poll campaign moves through the gears. The latter are attempting to corner the ruling BJP on the issue of corruption.

The model code of conduct is currently in force in the state. (ANI)

Ban On Kichcha's Movies

Karnataka: JD(S) Seeks Ban On Kichcha’s Movies

Janata Dal (Secular) on Friday wrote to the Election Commission, seeking a ban on the screening and telecast of movies, shows and commercials featuring the Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep, claiming they might influence voters in upcoming Assembly elections.

On Wednesday, Sudeep confirmed he would campaign for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speculations were rife about Sudeep and fellow bigscreen star Darshan Tugudeepa joining the BJP. However, the former clarified that he would only campaign for “his friends” in the BJP as opposed to joining the party and would also not contest the May 10 Assembly polls.

The superstar was in media spotlight for the better part of Wednesday amid speculations of his joining the ruling party.

Addressing a joint press conference with Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai on Wednesday, Sudeep said, “I had no need to come here, and I an not here for any platform or money. Many More Will Join BJP In Next 10 Days”: JDS Leader LR Shivarame

Former MP and expelled Janata Dal (Secular) leader LR Shivarame on Wednesday joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s state chief Nalinkumar Kateel and party national general secretary CT Ravi, in Bengaluru.

In an exclusive interview with ANI after joining the BJP, Shivarame said, “In the next 10 days, many more leaders will be joining the BJP. The people of Karnataka want a double-engine government in the state and the party will form a majority government in Karnataka.”
On why he left the JD(S), he said, “I have been in politics for the last 40 years. I started my career with the Youth Congress. But both in the JD(S) and the Congress, leadership couldn’t sustain promising, young members. Internal politics and clashes keep on happening regularly. You don’t even have the right to express your suggestions openly. That’s why I have decided to join the BJP”.

Senior JDS leader ATR Ramaswamy also joined the BJP recently.

The former MP said that Karnataka voters are very ‘clever’ that they want a double-engine government in the state.

“People know that in a double-engine government, work doesn’t suffer and projects are put on the fast-track. Coordination with the Centre is very important. We are seeing this in so many states. The BJP has been in power in Karnataka for the last three years. The development we saw under the BJP rule is something no one could have even imagined in the last 50 years. So, the people of Karnataka are ready to vote for the double engine government,” he further said.

He added, “BJP is a cadre-based party and is working to win Karnataka and make further inroads in the South. Forget Siddaramaih, forget Shivakumar, forget Kumaraswamy. BJP will form the government in the state with its biggest majority”.

He said that in some areas ,BJP and JDS are strong, while in others, all three parties, including the Congress, are strong.

“However, despite all that, the BJP will come to power,” he said. (ANI)
