Ayodhya: NDRF Sets Up Camp Near Ram Temple Ahead Of ‘Pran Pratishtha’

With just 48 hours to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Ram Temple on January 22, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has set up a camp near the shrine in Ayodhya to respond to contingencies, if any.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform the rituals around the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Shri Ram Lalla at the temple on January 22.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Manoj Kumar Sharma, the deputy inspector general of police, NDRF, shared details of the deployment of the rescue personnel in the temple town ahead of the big day.

“Three NDRF teams have been deployed here ahead of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony on January 22. The deployment has been done in coordination with the local administration and police. One of our teams has been deployed at the ghats. We are ready to deal with all sorts of contingencies,” Sharma told ANI on Saturday.

Ahead of the grand ceremony, elaborate security deployments and arrangements have also been made across the city.

“We are making necessary preparations with regard to security in coordination with the agencies concerned. The visitors have already started arriving for the ‘Pran Pratishtha’. We are ensuring close surveillance through drone cameras and human intelligence. All security loopholes are being identified and addressed on priority. We are confident that the mega event on January 22 will pass off without a hitch,” Praveen Kumar, IG, Ayodhya, said.

Kumar added that all necessary arrangements have been made for the guests.

The Ayodhya Police, earlier on Saturday, cautioned people in the city against the rise of cyber crimes as the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ day nears.

According to the police, amid the hoopla and rising public anticipation around the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony, cybercriminals are defrauding unsuspecting people by sending fake QR codes for ‘donations’ in the name of Ram Temple in exchange for free prasad (food offered to the deity), VIP and entry passes to the temple on January 22.

The fraudsters have even created a fake website in the name of Ram Mandir, Ayodhya, according to the police.

The police have advised citizens not to reply to any request or WhatsApp message sent by any unknown person without verification or donate money to anyone without verification.

The booking for ‘aarti’ passes to the Ram Janmobhoomi temple started in December ahead of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony on January 22. Aartis are performed three times a day (6:30 am, 12 pm, 7:30 pm) for Lord Ram Lalla for which passes are generated for the devotees.

A team of priests, led by Lakshami Kant Dixit, will officiate the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ rituals on Monday.

Earlier, the idol of Shri Ram Lalla, carved by Mysuru sculptor Arun Yogiraj, was placed inside the sanctum santorum of the temple. (ANI)

Tunnel Collapse: Rescue op Will Be Completed By EOD, Says NDRF Karwal

Director General of the National Disaster Response Force, Atul Karwal Thursday said that the multi-agency rescue operations to provide a safe passage to 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakashi will be completed by the end of the day.

DG NDRF, who reached the Silkyara Tunnel collapse site on Thursday, said while speaking to ANI,” “The auger machine has started operating again. We are estimating to send 2-3 pipes of 6 metres inside. Hopefully, by the end of the day, if we do not encounter any obstacles, the rescue operation will be completed…”

The workers are trapped in a 2 km-built portion, which is complete including concrete work that provides safety to the workers. According to rescue teams, the operation involved drilling through the debris to push wide pipes for the trapped workers to walk out through. The auger machine, which drills through about 3 metres of debris in an hour, had earlier hit a metal obstruction.

“Our teams are ready, and I hope we will be able to rescue the workers soon” DG Atul Karwal said earier in the day.

“NDRF is ready for all the consequences that we may have to face. Special equipment is also ready so that we can take the trapped workers out as early as possible. Our teams are ready, and I hope we will be able to rescue the workers soon,” NDRF DG Atul Karwal told ANI on Thursday.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela said on Thursday morning that rescuers have drilled and considerably breached through the debris of the collapsed portion of the Sikyara tunnel to reach closer to the trapped workers.

Speaking to ANI today, Uttarkashi District Magistrate said that only a little more work is left for the completion of the rescue operation, which has been ongoing for the past 12 days.

Rescuers, using an US auger machine, resumed drilling on Tuesday and by late night on Wednesday, drilled through 45 metres out of the 60-metre stretch of debris that blocked the Sikyara side of the under construction tunnel stretching from Silkyara to Barkot.

According to the state government official, the rescue operation is at the final stage as the trapped workers are likely to be pulled out today.

On November 12 a portion of the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot collapsed and debris falling in the 60-metre stretch on the Silkyara side of the tunnel trapped 41 labourers inside. (ANI)

Six Killed As Cyclone Fani Batters India

Three people were killed as cyclone Fani lashed coastal India, bringing in its wake widespread destruction and damage to public property, according to the National Disaster Response Force. Unconfirmed sources put the toll to six.

“The damage (caused due to the cyclone) were on expected lines. As per the information received from the state government, three people have died. The casualties occurred due to the damage caused to buildings,” S N Pradhan, DG, NDRF told ANI.

He also said that the damaged caused by the cyclone has been minimal while crediting the people for it.

“Although, we will get more information but as of now minimal damage has been reported. The credit for this goes to people because they understood that they have to go to higher places (cyclone shelters). First, I want to thank the people and second I would tell them, don’t panic,” said Pradhan.

Talking about the effects of the cyclone Fani, the NDRF DG said, “Landfall happened as per the speed predicted by IMD. Some effect has been seen in Puri. Earlier, it was in extremely severe cyclone category but it passed over Khurda and Bhubaneshwar under severe or very severe cyclone category.”

“Bhubaneshwar is a town so due to resistance by buildings, several trees were uprooted and electricity wires were damaged,” Pradhan, said in New Delhi on Friday.

He said that the danger from storm is “definitely over” for Puri.

“The bigger work is restoration, relief, and rescue. NDRF and state officials are doing the damage assessment and accordingly we will decide on the relief works. Relief works will show about the preparation,” he said.

The NDRF DG also said that the 18 teams of NDRF have been deployed in West Bengal.

Heavy rains along with a wind speed of 175 kmph battered Odisha as powerful cyclone Fani made landfall close to the temple town of Puri on Friday morning, leaving a trail of destruction in the state.

The impact of the “extremely severe cyclonic storm” was felt in neighbouring West Bengal including in the beach town of Digha and other areas. (ANI)
