Lingayat pontiff

Mallikarjunashree Distances Itself From Lingayat Pontiff’s Remarks

After a Lingayat pontiff in Karnataka called for replacing Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Prahlad Joshi from Dharwad constituency for the Lok Sabha elections, Murugha Mutt has distanced itself from the remarks while refusing to participate in political matters.

“It’s his personal opinion’ and not the collective lingayat community’s or mutt’s opinion’,” said Mallikarjunashree of Dharwad Muruga Mutt, who clarified that the statement of Dingaleshwara Swami has nothing to do with mutt.

Speaking at a press conference held in Dharwad on Thursday, Dingaleshwara Swami,a lingayat pontiff, targeted Union Minister Prahlad Joshi.

“Joshi has done his revenge politics. The Dharwad Lok Sabha ticket should be changed. We will convey this to the BJP High Command. The majority of Lingayat votes are in Dharwad district,” Dingaleshwara Swami said.

Dingaleshwara Swami also alleged, “It was Pralhad Joshi who removed BS Yediyurappa from the post of Chief Minister.”

Speaking to the media in the city, Mallikarjunashree of Dharwad Muruga Mutt said, “Swamiji’s statement has nothing to do with the Dharwad Muruga Mutt. Our mutt never participates in political matters.”

He said, “I have nothing to do with the current controversy.”

BJP Candidate Pralhad Joshi on Saturday “feigned ignorance” and said he will win their blessings.

Responding to the pontiff’s demand, Joshi said, “I’m not aware. I don’t want to react to their statements. I’ll win with their blessings. I can’t say more.”

Karnataka, which has 28 Lok Sabha seats, will vote in two phases on April 26 and May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and JD-S fought together against the BJP and the combine was decimated.

The BJP had won a record 25 seats; Congress and JD-S won just one seat each. The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be held in seven phases, starting on April 19. The counting of votes is on June 4. (ANI)

Tuesday accused Rekha Sharma

Trinamool Calls For Resignation Of Women’s Commission Chief

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Tuesday accused Rekha Sharma, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), of prioritizing her political allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the safety of women and children and demanded her immediate resignation.

In an official statement, the AITC claims that Sharma’s favouritism towards the BJP, which comes from her past job as a BJP district secretary, harms the trustworthiness of her current role and makes her important position look foolish.

“Rekha Sharma, transitioning from BJP district secretary to chairperson of NCW doesn’t erase your political bias. How can we trust someone who puts party interests above the safety of women and children? Your allegiance to BJP renders your position utterly unfair and disgraceful. How dare you prioritise party loyalty over the safety of women? Your shameless partiality makes a mockery of the prestigious role. Resign now and spare us from your partisan incompetence!,” AITC said.

Meanwhile, NCW Chief Rekha Sharma responded to TMC’s social media attack, saying she was grateful for no physical assault.

“Media is asking me for my reaction on TMC attacking me on social media and my reply is that I thank God for they not attacking me physically ( as they are habitual of doing that) as of now,” NCW Chief Rekha Sharma said in a post on ‘X’.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, is here in West Bengal to take stock of the Sandeshkhali incident met the West Bengal DGP on Tuesday.

“It is huge that the DGP met me. I have come to West Bengal for the 8th-9th time, and the DGP never meets… The DGP agreed that the police have lacked… We suggested that all the police officials there (in Sandeshkhali) should be changed. He took it seriously but then he received one or two phone calls, after which his attitude changed completely. He cut short the meeting. When we took Shah Jahan’s name, he did not like it. He (DGP) asked us how he can arrest Shah Jahan when there is nothing against him. He said that the ED should arrest Shah Jahan, not him. If there is nothing against him, then what will the police investigate… I think DGP’s hands are tied, he cannot do anything. We can imagine the pressure he is in… I think he is serious but how can he work under pressure” Rekha Sharma said after her meeting.

Earlier on Monday, after visiting West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali, Rekha Sharma had demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The Sandeshkhali area has been witnessing unrest for over 10 days as women protestors are seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides.

Notably, the Supreme Court on Monday observed that the Calcutta High Court has taken cognisance of the matter relating to the alleged sexual assault of women living in village Sandeshkhali in West Bengal and refused to entertain a plea seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation or Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the issue.

A bench of justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih remarked that the plea seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation or Special Investigation Team (SIT) can be considered by the High Court.

The bench also noted that the High Court has already taken cognisance of the issue. After the top court wasn’t convinced by the petitioner, Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava withdrew the petition from the Supreme Court. However, the court granted liberty to the petitioner to approach the Calcutta HC with his prayer.

Meanwhile, a ‘peace home’ was opened at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Monday to provide temporary refuge to the victims of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.

Speaking to ANI, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Governor CV Ananda Bose, Sandip Rajput, said on Monday that the idea of opening the peace home was initiated by Governor CV Anand Bose after his recent visit to Sandeshkhali.

Trinamool Congress leader Shibu Hazra, one of the associates of TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, was arrested earlier in connection with the Sandeshkhali violence issue and was sent to police custody for eight days on Sunday. (ANI)

Maliwal Begins Her Rajya Sabha Stint With Hanuman Temple Visit

AAP Nominates DCW Chief Swati Maliwal For Rajya Sabha

The Political Affairs Committee of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced the nomination of Delhi Commission for Women chief and senior party member Swati Maliwal for Rajya Sabha elections in Delhi scheduled to be held on January 19.

With the six-year term of three Rajya Sabha MPs from Delhi ending this month, voting to elect the new members will take place on January 19.

The three members – Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta and Narain Dass Gupta – will be retiring on January 27.

However, ND Gupta and jailed senior leader Sanjay Singh will be re-nominated as well while Sushil Kumar Gupta, as per the party said, has expressed his intent to redirect his focus towards the electoral politics of Haryana.

ND Gupta is the party treasurer and Sushil Gupta is the AAP President of the Haryana unit. The state is expected to go to polls later this year.

“Chaired by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the committee decided to endorse two existing members for re-nomination, whereas Sushil Kumar Gupta expressed his intent to redirect his focus towards the electoral politics of Haryana,” the party said.

Swati Maliwal is a women’s rights activist and the current Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Before joining DCW, Maliwal worked as the advisor to the Chief Minister of Delhi on public grievances. Maliwal was a core member of the Indian Against Corruption movement.

Maliwal has been associated with various campaigns and movements aimed at combating violence against women, advocating for stricter laws, and promoting gender equality.

A Delhi court on Thursday, meanwhile, allowed party leader Sanjay Singh to sign re-nomination documents from jail. Sanjay Singh, a senior Aam Aadmi Party leader is an accused in a money laundering case related to the Excise policy case and was arrested on October 4, 2023, by the Enforcement Directorate.

His bail plea was dismissed by the trial court on December 22, 2023 and stated that, the Court is of prima facie view that the case against him is genuine. Evidence shows his involvement in the alleged offence of money laundering. There are reasonable grounds for believing that he is guilty of the alleged offence of money laundering.” (ANI)

Nuclear Modernization Ambitions

China’s Penchant For Nuclear Modernization Ambitions

Chinese intentions to expand its nuclear and militaristic power are its methods of wolf-warrior portrayals that are on a path of wreaking havoc in and around its neighbourhood.

These aspirations, however, have already entered their next phase and are currently under execution. Therefore, it seems quite relevant and plausible to discuss Chinese implementation plans, as per Global Strat View analysis.
Political and bureaucratic competition has ensured that the discussion around the issue remains as important as China’s global vision for hegemony.

In its Defence White Paper from 2006, China resolutely asserted its “Self Defence Nuclear Strategy,” proclaiming an assured retaliatory measure leading to inflicting unacceptable damage to the attacker.

However, Beijing’s nuclear stand over the years has only deteriorated towards a far more hawkish view of the global world, reported Global Strat View.

In 2013, their Defence White Paper excluded mentions of a lifelong nuclear principle of ‘No First Use policy.’ This led many scholars to conclude that China was perhaps on its path to shedding an instrumental principle that had ensured peace and stability in the region and the world for decades.

Since then, China has been on a war footing to diversify and modernize its nuclear-armed forces. It is on the verge of attaining the nuclear triad status, defined as all three military forces consisting of land-launchable nuclear missiles, nuclear missile-armed submarines, strategic fighter jets, and aircrafts powered with nuclear warheads.

Chinese intentions to expand its nuclear and militaristic power are not a distant event that can be tackled later, said Global Strat View.

Such acts require immediately thought-out foreign policy objectives, which can also lead to regional cooperation amongst members who find themselves at the forefront of such intimidating tactics.

If China doubles its arsenal by 2029 as predicted, in the coming years, the People’s Liberation Army will field as many as 24 DF-41’s with a staggering 144 warheads leading to many consequential security threats to the region, reported Global Strat View.

China’s actions in the South-China Sea, Taiwan, and its boundaries with India have made it clear that the leadership is willing to provoke skirmishes and clashes in and around the area of contention.

Moreover, given Chinese reoccurring behaviour, it would be wise to state that as much as the Chinese nuclear capabilities and weapons increase and improve, Beijing will attempt to adopt an offensive nuclear posture, advised Global Strat View.

Thus, the region which is witnessing such threatening nuclear augmentations must come together to tackle such challenges that China, as a nuclear state, wishes to pose in front of other peaceful countries of the continent and the world. (ANI)
