‘Want To See My Son’s Face Again’: Families Mourn Death of Two Bihar Youths in Manipur

The parents of the two Bihar youths killed in Manipur, have requested the Manipur government to facilitate the return of the bodies of the two deceased back to their native village.

The two deceased — Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17) were residents of Rajwahi village of Bihar’s Gopalganj district and had gone there to work as migrant workers. They were shot down in the Kakching district of Manipur.

The families said the two boys had gone to Manipur a day after Diwali to earn some extra money. They also said they were not aware that a violent conflict is going on in Manipur.

Mother of Dashrath Kumar, Radhika Devi told ANI on Sunday, “We did not know there was a conflict in Manipur, if we had known, I would not have sent my son there. He was just 17…I just want to see the face of my son again, that is what I ask of the government.”

The father of Dashrath Kumar, Mohan Sohan said that he got the information of his son’s death from his other son who had also gone out of the state to work.

“I got a call from my other son, his name is Santosh, he told me ‘Dad, my brother is dead’ and Suna lal is also dead. Since receiving that news, we are just running around, talking to people, being lost,” the father said.

“The boy had gone to work in Manipur…around 6 people were there to work. Four men had stayed behind while the other two had gone ahead with a cycle, after that suddenly as the ones on the cycle looked back after a sound, they saw that others had been shot,” he added.

The mother of one of the deceased, Sunalal Kumar said, “The incident happened in Manipur, they shot him. He had gone to Manipur to earn some money after Diwali, he used to do labour work there.”

Earlier, Manipur CM N Biren Singh condemned the killing of the two people and called it an “act of terrorism.”

“I strongly condemn the brutal killing of young brothers, Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17), from Bihar in Kakching district, Manipur. This act of terrorism is a direct assault on our values, and my deepest condolences go out to their grieving families,” said the CM in a post on X.

The CM also announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also condemned the killing and ordered officials to provide benefits as per rules to the family of the deceased and also to make necessary arrangements to have the two people transported to their native village.

“I have directed to give Rs. 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families. Along with this, I have directed to provide other benefits as per rules from the schemes run by the Labour Resources Department and Social Welfare Department. Also Resident Commissioner of Bihar in Delhi to take information about the situation and provide all possible assistance. Also make necessary arrangements to send the bodies of the deceased to their native village,” the Bihar CM stated. (ANI)

High Time That World Comes Together Against Terrorism: Def Expert Sehgal

Amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, defence expert Major General (retd) PK Sehgal on Friday stressed the need for global unification against the menace of terrorism.

He said that the world has only now understood the menace of terrorism, and it is high time for the leaders to come together on a common methodology to fight this menace.

He made these remarks hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the P20 Summit and recalled the terror incidents against India.

Speaking to ANI, Sehgal said, “Prime Minister Modi, while addressing the conference on Friday, categorically stated that the Indian Parliament was attacked by terrorists in 2001, but that withstanding, till date, there has been no acceptable definition of terror and terrorism. Unless and until the world parliamentarians come together and arrive at a definition that is acceptable across the board, this menace will continue to be a huge worry for the world at large”.

“PM Modi further stressed that India has been a victim of cross-border terrorism…but the world is only now coming to realise the immensity of terrorism. And it is high time, the world comes together on a common methodology of dealing with this menace,” he added.

Speaking about the Israel-Hamas war and its possible impact on the India-Middle East-Economic Corridor — which was launched during the G20 Summit in India — Sehgal said that there “may” be a Chinese hand here.

“Some people and some governments feel that the Hamas attack on Israel had nothing to do with Israel, Palestine or Palestinian people. It was meant to derail the India-Middle East-Economic-Corridor, which was a trade corridor linking India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel to Europe. This was to compete directly with the BRI of China, and may have been sabotaged by China itself,” he said.

The defence expert also slammed the Canadian government over rising incidents of extremism and reiterated India’s call for action against the accused.

“In Canada, the Gurudwara whose head was Nijjar…posters had appeared outside threatening Indian Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister. India in the strongest possible language has read the right act onto the Canadians. Yesterday, there was a Parliamentary Speaker’s meeting in India, the P20. The Canadian speaker did not attend…India in the strongest possible language has told the Canadians to take action against those who have done the mischief,” Sehgal added.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi, during his P20 address invoked the 2001 terror attack on the Parliament and said that India has been facing and battling cross-border terrorism for many years.

Giving the keynote address, PM Modi said, “India has been facing cross-border terrorism for many years now. Terrorists have taken the lives of thousands of our people. Nearly 20 years ago, the old Parliament building, which is near the old one, came under attack by terrorists. You will be shocked to know that Parliament was in session at the time of the attack”.

“Whatever the cause or motivations, terrorism is against humanity. We will have to fight terrorism. Also, it is disheartening to see that there is no consensus among countries on the language and definition of terrorism. Terrorists are taking advantage of this,” he added.

While the G20 member countries attended the event, Canada was conspicuous by its absence at the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20).

Earlier Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, at a press briefing, informed that apart from G20 countries, 10 other countries and international organizations will participate in the P20 Summit and so far, 50 Parliamentarians and 14 Secretary Generals, including 26 Presidents, 10 Vice Presidents, one Committee Chairman and the IPU President have confirmed their participation.

Speakers and heads of delegation of Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Spain, European Parliament, Italy, South Africa, Russia, Turkiye, Nigeria, Australia, Brazil, UAE, Singapore, Japan, Egypt and Bangladesh were present at the event. (ANI)

Modi Flags Lack Of Consensus Among Countries On Language And Definition Of Terrorism

Invoking the 2001 terror attack on the Parliament at the opening of the P20 Summit in the national capital on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has been facing and battling cross-border terrorism for many years.

In his keynote address to the P20 Summit, which is being represented by G20 members and delegates from other leading international organisations, PM Modi said,” I am told, Speaker Om Birla will take you to the new building of Parliament. India has been facing cross-border terrorism for many years now. Terrorists have taken the lives of thousands of our people. Nearly 20 years ago, the old Parliament building, which is near the old one, came under attack by terrorists. You will be shocked to know that Parliament was in session at the time of the attack.”

He added that India has fought the scourge of terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, over a number of years and even the world was now waking up to the threat that it poses to civilian and world peace.

In a significant statement amid the ongoing Israeli air raids in Gaza, which followed the Hamas terror attacks, PM Modi said, “Whatever be the cause or motivations, terrorism is against humanity. We will have to fight terrorism. Also, it is disheartening to see that there is no consensus among countries on the language and definition of terrorism. Terrorists are taking advantage of this.”

Masked gunmen from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) — two Pakistan-based terrorist outfits — attacked the Parliament on December 13, 2001. The attack left 5 Delhi Police personnel, 2 Parliament Security Service personnel, one CRPF constable and a gardener dead and led to a sharp escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan.

Addressing the inaugural session of the ninth P20 Summit earlier on Friday, Inter-Parliamentary Union President Duarte Pacheco said peace has to be maintained in all continents, including the Middle East, and efforts should be made globally in this direction.

“It’s impossible to talk about sustainable and developmental goals and talk about a future without peace. We need to defend peace in all continents including the Middle East. Peace should be on the front page. Even a single death is too much,” he said.

The itinerary on the inaugural day of the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) and Parliamentary Forum includes two separate sessions on Friday.

The first session comprises a discussion on ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ with Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showcasing achievements and accelerating progress.

The second session will be on ‘One Earth Sustainable Energy Transition-Gateway to Green Future’. (ANI)

No Double Standards On Terrorism: Modi At SCO

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, in an apparent attack on Pakistan and China, called on member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to not hesitate to condemn countries that use cross-border terrorism as ‘policy instruments’ and shelter terrorists.

“Some countries use cross-border terrorism as an instrument of their policies and give shelter to terrorists,” Prime Minister Modi said adding that the SCO should not hesitate to criticise such countries and “there should be no double standards on terrorism.”
Addressing the 23rd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation through video conference the prime minister said that “Terrorism is a threat to regional and global peace, we will have to fight against terrorism.”

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, China’s President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin among others participated in the summit.

“Terrorism has become the prime danger for both regional as well as global peace, and decisive action is necessary to deal with it. Terrorism in whichever form or expression, we have to collectively fight against it. Some countries use cross-border terrorism as instrument of their policies and harbour terrorists. SCO should not refrain from criticising such nations,” PM Modi said.

He added, “There should not be any place for double-standards on such a serious issue. We should also increase cooperation to deal against terror financing. We should take further steps to stop the radicalisation of youth in our countries. The joint statement being issued on the issue of radicalisation is the proof of our shared commitment”.

Last month, China had blocked a proposal by India and the United States at the United Nations to designate Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Sajid Mir, wanted for his involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, as a global terrorist.

This move of China was sternly criticised by India, as even after 15 years since the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the masterminds behind the atrocity have yet to be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, in his virtual address to the SCO heads of the summit meeting, PM Modi also laid focus on the situation in Afghanistan and said that Afghan soil should not be allowed to be used to destabilise its neighbourhood.

The Prime Minister said that humanitarian assistance and setting of an elected government in Kabul are major priorities of the SCO.

“The situation in Afghanistan has directly affected the security of the region. India’s concerns and aspirations for Afghanistan is at par with other SCO countries. We will have to collectively work for the welfare of the Afghan people. Humanitarian assistance to Afghan citizens, forming an elected and inclusive government, fighting against drug trafficking and terrorism, and ensuring the rights of women, children and minorities- these all are our shared priorities,” he said.

PM Modi added, “India and Afghanistan have age-old ties. Over the last two decades, India has contributed to the economic and social development of Afghanistan. We have continued to send assistance even after the 2021 episode. It is important that the Afghan soil should not be used to spread instability in neighbouring countries or to encourage extremist ideologies”. (ANI)

Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police is hunting for four other terror suspects, besides the two who were arrested last week from the Jahangirpuri area in the national capital, sources said on Tuesday.

Terror Plot Busted Ahead Of R-Day, Hunt On For 4 Suspects

Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police is hunting for four other terror suspects, besides the two who were arrested last week from the Jahangirpuri area in the national capital, sources said on Tuesday.

According to the Delhi Police Special Cell sources, the terror suspects recieved weapons from Pakistan through the drop-dead method and were in touch with their handlers on the other side of the border through a social media app.
“Delhi Police looking for 4 other suspects. They received weapons from Pakistan through the drop-dead method and were in contact with handlers in Pak on the Signal app. They got weapons at an unidentified location in Uttarakhand which is being verified,” sources said.

This comes after two terrorists were arrested from the Jahangirpuri area in Delhi earlier in January who, according to the police, were tasked to carry out the targeted attacks in various states.

In the latest development, the Delhi Police got information about the involvement of 8 persons in the module. The police suspect the possible presence of four suspects in India presently.

“Their handlers sitting at the border sent instructions on the Signal app, after which they shared the location of the bag full of weapons through Google Maps. About 8 people are involved in this module of terrorists out of which 4 can still be present in India only. 2 terrorists were used to provide weapons and 2 were used to send the Google location of the weapons to their bosses by keeping the weapons at a particular location,” sources said.

According to sources, the weapons recovered from the terrorists were found at an unknown location in Uttarakhand which is now being verified.

Meanwhile, the two terror suspects arrested from the Jahangirpuri area of the national capital on Thursday were assigned to carry out targeted killings of rightwing leaders on January 27 and January 31, sources in the Delhi Police claimed on Monday.

The Delhi Police had earlier said it arrested two ‘suspicious’ men and recovered two hand grenades from their house in the Bhalswa Dairy area of Jahangirpuri.

The Special cell of the Delhi Police had arrested the two suspects — identified as Jagjit Singh (29) and Naushad (56). They were produced before the Patiala House Court on Friday and sent to police remand for 14 days.

Police sources later claimed that three rightwing leaders of Punjab and Delhi were on their hit list and they had even set a date and time to take out two of their targets.

Further, according to sources, the suspects, now in police custody, had receed two of their targets and had even taken note of their movements and daily schedules.

The sources added that the suspects were to receive Rs 50 lakh on killing the first target, Rs 1 crore for taking out the second and Rs 1.5 crore for eliminating the third.

Both had received Rs 5 lakh as token money through hawala operators, sources claimed further.

Police said they carried out a raid at their rented house at the Shradha Nand Colony in the Bhalswa Dairy police station limits on Friday, under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and recovered hand grenades. The police said they also recovered three pistols and 22 live cartridges from the suspects.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also visited the house and collected blood samples on Friday.

According to sources, it is alleged that the suspects killed a person in the house and shared a video of the killing with their handler.

The police said they were in the process of finding out who was killed.

Delhi Police earlier said it has information that Jagjit Singh has links to Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Dalla. He is also a member of the notorious Bambiha gang and has been receiving instructions from anti-national elements based abroad, the city police said, adding that he is also a parole jumper in a murder case in Uttarakhand.

Naushad is also associated with Harkat-ul-Ansar (HUA), a terror group which is based in Pakistan and primarily operates in Jammu and Kashmir.

He has been a life convict in two counts of murder and has also served a 10-year sentence in connection with a case under the Explosive Act.

The accused took up residence at the rented house last year, during Diwali, adding that the construction of their own house is ongoing, according to the neighbors. (ANI)

BBC Documentary Is Politics: Jaishankar

Jaishankar Takes A Dig At Pak: Terror Epicentre Close To India

In a veiled attack on Pakistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday said the epicenter of terrorism is located close to India.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Jaishankar said he spoke with Austrian leaders about threats to international peace posed by terrorism.

Jaishankar said, “We spoke at length on the threats to international peace and security that are posed by terrorism, including its cross-border practices, violent extremism, radicalization, and fundamentalism.”

He added, “Their effects cannot be contained within a region especially so when they are deeply connected to narcotics and illegal weapons trade, and other forms of international crime. Since the epicenter is located so close to India, naturally our experiences and insights are useful to others.”

On the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Jaishankar said India is “deeply concerned” about the situation in Ukraine. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s refrain that today’s era is not of war, the EAM called for resolving the differences on the negotiating table.

Jaishankar said that Prime Minister Modi has remained in contact with leaders of Russia and Ukraine and has been pressing India’s viewpoint.

“With regard to the Ukraine conflict, let me underline that India remains deeply concerned we sincerely believe that this is not the era of war. Differences must be settled on the negotiating table. It is imperative that there is a return to dialogue and diplomacy. Prolonged conflict will not serve the interests of any party,” Jaishankar said.

“My Prime Minister has been in contact with the leaders of both nations pressing our point of view in that regard. We are increasingly anxious about knock-on effects of the conflict in terms of accessibility and affordability of fuel, food, and fertilizers this is a growing concern for the global south,” he added.

Jaishankar embarked on a two-nation visit to Cyprus and Austria on December 29. His ongoing visit to Austria will conclude on January 3.

In the joint press briefing with Schallenberg, Jaishankar further said India considers Austria a “serious and consequential partner” when it comes to bilateral cooperation.

“We view Austria as a serious and consequential partner when it comes to bilateral cooperation. You have experiences and capabilities that are relevant to India’s modernization and progress. These are guided by government policies but ultimately implemented through business transactions,” Jaishankar said.

“Our commitment today is to take both aspects forward in tandem and I look forward to concrete initiatives in that regard,” the EAM added.

On the agreements between India and Austria, Jaishankar said, “We have concluded a number of agreements. I think a particularly noteworthy one is the initializing of the Comprehensive Migration & Mobility Partnership Agreement because it will enable demands for skills and talents to be synchronized with their availability.” (ANI)

China, Pak Are One Now, If There’s War It Will Be Against Both: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that China and Pakistan are preparing together and if there is a war, then it will be against both countries.

In a YouTube video on Rahul Gandhi’s channel, while interacting with Armed Forces veterans during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress MP said, “China and Pakistan have come together, if there will be any war then it will happen with both, so there will be a major loss for the country. India is now extremely vulnerable. I don’t just have respect for you (Army) but also love and affection for you. You defend this nation. This nation would not exist without you.”

The Congress leader explained, “Earlier we had two enemies China and Pakistan and our policy was to keep them separate. First, it was said that two front war should not happen then people say there is two and a half-front war going on, that is, Pakistan, China, and terrorism. Today there is one front that is China and Pakistan which are together. If the war happens it will happen with both. They are working together not only militarily but also economically.”

Criticizing the Central government over its policies, Rahul Gandhi said, “Our economic system has slowed down after 2014. In our country, there is disturbance, fighting, confusion, and hatred. Our mindset is still that of two and a half-front war. Our mindset is not of joint operability and of cyber warfare. India is now extremely vulnerable. China and Pakistan are both preparing a surprise for us, which is why I keep repeating that the government cannot keep quiet. What happened at the border the government should tell people of the country. What action do we have to take we have to start today? Actually, we had to act five years ago but we did not do it. If we don’t act fast, then there will be a big loss. I am extremely concerned with what is happening at the border in Arunachal and Ladakh,” he added.

On December 13, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops tried to transgress the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtse area of Arunachal Pradesh Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo but they went back to their locations due to timely intervention of Indian military commanders.

Giving a statement in the Rajya Sabha, the Defence Minister assured the Upper House that “our forces are committed to protecting our territorial integrity and will continue to thwart any attempt made on it”.

Singh also displayed confidence that “this entire House will stand united in supporting our soldiers in the brave effort.”

Explaining the incident, the Minister said: “I would like to brief this august House about an incident on our border in the Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, 2022.”

“On December 9, 2022, PLA troops tried to transgress the LAC in the Yangtse area of Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo. The Chinese attempt was contested by our troops in a firm and resolute manner. The ensuing face-off led to a physical scuffle in which the Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from transgressing into our territory and compelled them to return to their posts,” said Singh.

He further said “the scuffle led to injuries to a few personnel on both sides”, and clarified that “there are no fatalities or serious casualties on our side”.

“Due to the timely intervention of Indian military commanders, PLA soldiers went back to their locations,” Singh said.

As a follow-up of the incident, the Minister further said, the local commander in the area held a “flag meeting with his counterpart on December 11, 2022, to discuss the issue in accordance with established mechanisms”.

“The Chinese side was asked to refrain from such actions and maintain peace and tranquillity along the border. The issue has also been taken up with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels,” Singh said.

The Minister also assured the House that “our forces are committed to protecting our territorial integrity and will continue to thwart any attempt made on it”.

“I am confident that this entire House will stand united in supporting our soldiers in their brave effort,” the Minister added.

The clash near Yangtse along the LAC in the sensitive sector took place last Friday amid the over 30-month border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh. (ANI)

Drug Menace, Serious Problem: Amit Shah In LS | Lokmarg

Drug Menace, Serious Problem: Amit Shah In LS

Union Home minister Amit Shah said in parliament on Wednesday that the drug menace is a serious problem that is destroying generations and the profits being made from drugs are utilized for terrorism as well.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah was replying to the debate in Lok Sabha under rule 193 on the “Problem of drug abuse in the country and steps taken by the government.”
He said that Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) can conduct probes across the country. “NCB is ready to help each and every state if there’s a need to do an inter-state probe. Even the NIA can help the states if the probe needs to be conducted outside the country,” he added.

Shah also reiterated the Centre’s zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse. “Our govt policy is very clear: those consuming drugs are victims. We should be sensitive towards them and give victims a conducive atmosphere for their rehabilitation. But those involved in drug trafficking should not be spared,” he said.

Shah urged the States and Union Territories to work in synergy against the drug menace. “All the states and UTs have to together fight against the drug menace. We need to stop the entry of drugs through borders, ports, and airports. The revenue department, NCB, and anti-narcotics agencies have to work against the menace of being on the same page,” he said.

Our govt has a zero-tolerance policy towards the issue of drugs. Those countries promoting terrorism in our country are using the profits from drugs for the same. The presence of this dirty money also gradually makes our economy hollow,” he added.

“We have mapped the drug network across the states. No matter how big the criminal is, in the next two years there’ll be a situation that they’ll be behind bars,” he said. (ANI)
