PM Modi Rally In Doda: 'Three Families Destroyed Jammu-Kashmir'

This Initiative Was More Than Just A Policy: Modi On 10 Yrs Of Jan Dhan Yojana

Elaborating on the benefits of Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which completed its 10 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that for him, this was not just a policy, but an endeavour to build an India where each has access to the formal banking apparatus.

In a post on LinkedIn, PM Modi said that the situation was very different when he took office in 2014 as access to banking was a distant dream of almost half of the country’s households.

“Many of you, especially the youth, would be thinking- why does this matter so much? After all, in this age, having a bank account would be very basic and even taken for granted. However, when we assumed office in 2014, the situation was very different. It was almost 65 years since Independence, but access to banking was a distant dream for almost half of our households. Theirs was a world where savings were kept at home, vulnerable to loss and theft. Access to credit was often at the mercy of predatory lenders. The absence of financial security held back so many dreams,” he said.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that earlier, Congress nationalised the banks for the benefit of the poor, but the poor never got any access to it.

“This problem becomes even more ironical because four and a half decades ago, banks were nationalised by the then (Congress) Government and that too in the name of the poor! Yet, the poor never got access to banking,” the PM said.

PM Modi, further said that it was a challenge to implement the scheme at such an “enormous” level, but the determination of the people of India was strong.

“When the Jan Dhan Yojana was rolled out, I remember the scepticism that surrounded it too. Some people asked- could it be possible to bring such a large number of people into the banking system? Will this effort lead to any concrete changes? Yes. The scale of the challenge was enormous, but so was the determination of the people of India to ensure it becomes a reality,” he said.

He also highlighted that today, over 53 crore people who never imagined they would enter a bank have bank accounts.

“These accounts have a deposit balance of over Rs. 2.3 lakh crore. Over 65 per cent of the accounts are either in rural or semi-urban areas, thus taking the movement of financial inclusion outside the metros. Direct transfers worth almost Rs. 39 lakh crore have taken place,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi termed the PMJDY as a “game-changer” for women’s empowerment.

“Almost 30 crore women have been brought into the banking system,” he said.

“Likewise, the benefits of the scheme and the other benefits that come thanks to a bank account have positively impacted crores of SC, ST and OBC families,” the PM added.

He also asserted that if the Jan Dhan Yojana was not there, then the MUDRA Yojana, or the social security schemes of the Government, namely the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and the Atal Pension Yojana would never have been as impactful.

Further, PM Modi emphasized that Jan Dhan also became a vital pillar of the JAM Trinity- Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile.

“The landmark contribution of this trinity was to eliminate the scourge of middlemen and touts who, for decades, thrived in public loot. It is this trinity that ensured a stunning digital payments revolution in India, especially in the middle and later years of the last decade. The very same elements who doubted the relevance of a scheme like Jan Dhan were yet again mocking the need for digital payments in a nation like ours. But, once again, they underestimated the collective resolve of our people,” he said.

PM Modi also highlighted that over 40 per cent of real-time digital payments in the world happen in India.

“PM Jan Dhan Yojana personifies dignity, empowerment and the opportunity to participate in the economic life of the nation. The foundations laid by this scheme are strong, but we have even more work to do! We will continue to build on this success to build a Viksit Bharat,” the Prime Minister asserted.

He also lauded the efforts of the countless banking staff who made financial inclusion their mission and ensured a better life for their fellow Indians. (ANI)

खेल अधिकारी सोचते हैं कि उनकी जिम्मेदारी सिर्फ दफ्तरी घंटे पूरे करने से ख़त्म

‘Sports Authorities Must Come Out Of The 9-to-5 Work Culture’

Prateek Pandey, a national level wrestler from UP, feels sports bodies need to identify and nurture talent at the grassroots level to fulfill the country’s Olympics ambitions. His views:

As far as India’s track record in the Olympics goes, it does not have much to boast about. In our past 104 years of participation, we have cumulatively won only 41 medals; we have only won 10 gold medals and this includes eight in Team Hockey.

No doubt the in the past 10 years, the central government has opened its treasure trunk (finances) in the training and infrastructure of sports in the country but despite all its initiatives like ‘Khelo India’, University Games etc., the real talents is yet to be tapped thanks to the age-old election and selection procedures. Our sporting authorities have a lethargic attitude that is still believes in 9-to-5 job cultures with Saturday-Sunday off.

If you actually need to reach out to the talents at the grassroots where there is potential to win medals, my first suggestion is to form a committee that comprises not just government officials but also specialist sportspersons. The members of this committee should not only sit in their AC offices but go out in the field, the rural and the sub-urban areas of the country to hunt for the talent.

The red-tapism which exists in the entire government machinery must be rooted out. In a recent report titled ‘Let’s Play’, the NITI Ayog spelt out some recommendations including targeting tribal and village talents, including sports as a subject in school curriculum, recruitment of world class coaches and trainers and improving sports infrastructure through public private partnerships. No doubt these recommendations are superb, but they can only reap results when they come out of the files and are put to actual work.

ALSO READ: ‘Out Focus Is Only On Cricket, Not Olympic Sports’

The second and most important support system to bring out talents is the infrastructure. Though the efforts of this government in the past 10 years is really laudable, the on ground reality is yet to see the light of the sun. Though regional stadiums and sports facilities are taking shape at a fast pace, I can name a number of such centers/facilities where the infrastructure (sports equipment) are still locked in go downs waiting for the files to pass on. This is, in a way, not only hampering the training programs but also demoralizing for many youths.

Another important aspect of the sports and athlete infrastructure in the existing grievance redressal mechanism for the sportsperson. For example, if an athlete has any grievance related to the procedure or the selection of any sport, he/she needs to follow the same redressal line and eventually reaching out to our age old judicial system. Such long and hectic are the procedures related to games, that the sportsperson is either surrenders or his/her age surpasses the age limit meant for the particular sports. This needs to be addressed and rectified at the earliest.

For India sports means cricket and cricket means sports – unlike countries where Olympic sports are an integral part of the social fabric, India also needs a cultural shift to prioritise and celebrate a diverse range of sports.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul lashed out at the Bengal government as she took part in the 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ called by her party on Wednesday.

“If she was not afraid, she would not have used lathi charge, tear gas. This injustice will not work. Mamata Banerjee is insulting the people who have put her on the throne today,” Agnimitra Paul added.

“They are going around with a disgusting attitude. They have all become spineless. Police have invalidated the orders of the Supreme Court. Paras Mani Singh an e-rickshaw driver from Muzaffarpur Bihar KBC

E-Rickshaw Driver’s Dream Comes True: Paras Mani Singh Wins Big On KBC

Paras Mani Singh, an e-rickshaw driver from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has become a sensation after securing a significant win on the popular television game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC), hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Singh, who participated in the ‘India Challengers Week,’ clinched the top spot by winning the ‘Fastest-Five’ round in July, which granted him the golden opportunity to appear on the show with the legendary host, Amitabh Bachchan.

The ‘Fastest-Five’ segment features ten contestants from around India, with the winner being the one who answers five consecutive questions the quickest.

Reflecting on his earlier struggles, Singh shared that the COVID-19 pandemic had severely impacted his life.

His mobile recharge shop had to shut down due to the lockdown, leading him to purchase an e-rickshaw with the help of his family.

He used to earn between Rs 500 to Rs 700 daily, which was crucial in supporting his family.

Participating in KBC was a dream for Singh, and he was overjoyed to find himself on the hot seat opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

Despite his initial nervousness, Bachchan’s humorous approach eased his tension, allowing Singh to play with greater confidence.

However, Singh chose to exit the game after facing a challenging question about Mahatma Gandhi, leaving the KBC stage with a substantial sum of Rs 12.5 lakhs.

Singh’s wife, Anshu Singh, expressed immense pride and joy in an interview, stating, “I never thought my husband would be on the show. Since I got married, I’ve seen him watch KBC all the time. We never have songs or movies playing on our TV; it’s always general knowledge and current affairs.”

She further praised Singh’s dedication to general knowledge, which she believes significantly contributed to their daughter’s academic success as well.

Paras Mani Singh reminisced about his journey, “I had a dream of appearing on KBC. I come from a middle-class family and I am an honors graduate. My shop had to shut down, and we were struggling financially. My sister helped me by buying an e-rickshaw for me, but my dream of being on KBC never faded. I kept practising and constantly watched general knowledge and current affairs on my mobile.”

Singh also reflected on how Amitabh Bachchan inspired him during the episode when he revealed he was battling a brain tumour.

Singh’s inspiring story of perseverance and success has captured the hearts of many, with his win not only changing his life but also bringing pride to his family and community. (ANI)
