BJP’s Praveen Khandelwal Slams Chidambaram For ‘Home-Grown Terrorist’ Remark

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal on Thursday hit out at senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram over his recent “home-grown terrorists” remarks in the wake of the Delhi terror blast, accusing the former Union Home Minister of attempting to “mislead the public by giving such statements”.

Khandelwal also emphasised that “a terrorist has no religion or nationality”.

Speaking to ANI, he said, “A terrorist has no religion or nationality. Why does P Chidambaram forget the time when he was the Union Home Minister? He did not raise these issues at the time? During his tenure, many such attacks happened. He wants to mislead people by giving such statements.”

“The government will decide if an all-party meeting is required to be called,” Khandelwal added when asked about Congress’s demand for an all-party meeting on the Delhi terror attack.

Echoing Khandelwal’s criticism, BJP leader RP Singh also condemned Chidambaram’s remarks, saying, “Terrorists are fighting over an ideology. P. Chidambaram needs to decide if he wants to give cover fire to such ideology or face it strongly.”

Earlier today, Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram reignited the debate on “home-grown terrorism” following the recent Delhi blast, urging the nation to confront the uncomfortable reality that not all terror threats originate from abroad.

In a post shared on X, Chidambaram said, “I have maintained before and after the Pahalgam terror attack that there are two kinds of terrorists — foreign-trained infiltrated terrorists and home-grown terrorists.”

He added that he had raised this distinction earlier during the Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor, but his remarks were dismissed and trolled at the time.

“I said so in Parliament during the debate on Operation Sindoor. I was mocked and trolled for the reference to home-grown terrorists. However, I must say that the government observed a discreet silence because the government knows that there are home-grown terrorists too,” Chidambaram added.

“The point of this tweet is we should ask ourselves what are the circumstances that turn Indian citizens — even educated persons — into terrorists,” he further added.

On November 10, a car explosion near the Red Fort complex in the national capital killed 12 and left several injured. (ANI)
