DMK Alliance Meet Nov 2; Stalin Calls SIR Phase 2 EC ‘Conspiracy’

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Alliance has called for an all-party meeting on November 2 to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-2, announced earlier on Monday by the Election Commission.

A crucial consultation meeting, chaired by DMK Party Chief and Chief Minister MK Stalin, was held at Anna Arivalayam, Chennai, earlier today to discuss SIR Phase 2.

The meeting, which lasted from 6 pm to 7 pm, decided to convene an all-party meeting on November 2 to address practical difficulties and plan strategies, given the monsoon season.

In a post on X, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin said that the SIR exercise during the monsoon months of November and December will bring serious practical difficulties.

“To carry out Special Intensive Revision just months before the election, and especially during the monsoon months of November and December, brings serious practical difficulties. To conduct SIR in a hasty and opaque manner is nothing but a conspiracy by the ECI to rob citizens of their rights and help the BJP,” Stalin said.

He alleged that in Bihar, large numbers of women, minorities and people from SC and ST communities were removed from the electoral rolls, adding that “the absence of transparency has fuelled serious suspicion in the public mind.”

“Now the ECI has announced that #SIR will begin in Tamil Nadu from next week. Following the announcement, we held discussions with our alliance partners, and on that basis an all party meeting will be convened on 2 November to decide the next course of action. The right to vote is the foundation of democracy. Tamil Nadu will fight against any attempt to murder it, and Tamil Nadu will win,” MK Stalin asserted.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will conduct the second phase of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 12 States and Union Territories, with the final voter list to be published on February 7, 2026, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said on Monday.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, CEC Kumar said the exercise will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

According to the Election Commission, printing and training will take place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November to December 4. The Draft Electoral Rolls will be published on December 9, followed by a claims and objection period from December 9 to January 8, 2026. The Notice Phase (for hearing and verification) will take place between December 9 and January 31, 202, with publication of Final Electoral Rolls on February 7, 2026.

“The second phase of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is about to be carried out in 12 States and UTs,” the CEC said. (ANI)
