Kargil Vijay Diwas: IAF’s Female Agniveers Conduct Drill At India Gate
The Indian Air Force (IAF) organised an inaugural performance of the IAF’s Agniveervayu Women’s drill team at India Gate on Friday.
The event was organised to commemorate the ‘Rajat Jayanti Vijay Diwas and to honour the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.
The team comprised 29 Agniveervayu.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka Sara, an Agniveervayu, from Jaipur said, “I enrolled for NCC during my schooling. I am an A certificate holder. My father works in Rajasthan State Transport Corporation and my mother is a homemaker. My Agniveervayu training is very unique. I am the first woman in my entire family to join the armed forces. I was inspired by the disciplined life of the armed forces. I was passionate about the uniform”.
“I am fond of all three forces but I am very passionate about the Indian Air Force,” she said.
Speaking on the training, she said, “The training of our drill team is related to a strict regime. Our main focus is to build physical and mental stamina. I am proud to be a part of this team”.
Earlier on Friday, PM Modi paid tribute to bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the 1999 Kargil War. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, on the occasion of the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay in 1999. During this conflict, Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists. (ANI)
