‘Nation Has To Remain Extremely Alert’: Kiran Bedi condemns Delhi blast

Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kiran Bedi on Wednesday condemned the Delhi blast, which killed atleast eight people, and called for “increased community policing” so that the “traitors” among the people are identified and radicalism is dealt with accordingly.

“Our nation has to remain extremely alert and save ourselves from radicalisation. The police and intelligence are doing their job. We have to watch our neighbours’ activities. Questions must be asked about what is being stored in huge quantities… If questions are not answered, the police must be informed. These are traitors,” Bedi told ANI here.

She claimed that the alleged “traitors study in the nation, take benefits and then leave,” while calling for better coordination between different state police.

“We have to identify these traitors. They study in the nation, take all the benefits and then leave the country. Neighbours have to be alert, the government and law enforcement are clearly doing their job very well. All of the states’ police must work together like they have done now, also, community policing is required. It is our responsibility to identify these traitors,” she said.

The blast took place on Monday evening near the Red Fort complex, in front of the Lal Quila Metro station gate, killing at least eight people and injuring several others. The explosion was caused by a Hyundai i20 car.

Earlier today, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) collected the DNA samples of the mother of the suspect, Dr Umar Un Nabi, who was allegedly driving the i-20 car in which the blast occurred, sources said.

According to Delhi Police sources, the suspect, Umar, was also seen with the i20 on the Mumbai Expressway and the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, after which he was heading towards Delhi. Investigating agencies are investigating the vehicle’s movement.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has constituted a “dedicated and comprehensive” investigation team to probe the recent Delhi car blast incident– a terrorist attack executed by a Jaish-e-Mohammad module unearthed by Indian agencies, top sources said.

The team will operate under the supervision of senior officers, including those of the rank of Superintendent of Police and above, ensuring a coordinated and in-depth investigation into the case. The move comes a day after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) formally handed over the investigation to the NIA, citing a terror angle behind the explosion. (ANI)
