Students Across Country Rise In Support Of Jamia Protests
Students belonging to various educational institutions across the country on Monday stood up in solidarity with Jamia Millia University and condemned police action against university students protesting the Citizen Amendment Act.
Major opposition parties also slammed the NDA government on the contentious law and held protests in several states.
The students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad staged a protest in the campus premises here against Delhi police action against the students of Jamia Millia Islamia, who were demonstrating over the citizenship law.
The students’ union of MANUU also wrote to the Controller of Examination to inform that the students were boycotting the exams on Monday as part of the protest.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) students in Mumbai also boycotted their classes and held a rally here against the ‘attack’ by Delhi Police.
In Bengaluru, students of Indian Institute of Science, organised a protest regarding police action against students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Students put up posters against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the action taken against the protesters at the university campuses.
Clashes ensued between police and protestors at both JMI in New Delhi and AMU in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh after the protests organised by students against the citizenship law turned violent on Sunday.
