Cong To Win 125 Seats In Gujarat Polls: Gehlot

With Rahul Gandhi all set to address his first election rally in Gujarat today, Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday showed confidence in the party doing well in the upcoming Assembly polls stating that the people are “agitated” against the ruling BJP.
Speaking to ANI, Gehlot said, “Congress will do well in these elections because the mood of the public is against BJP for mismanaging COVID and the economy. Our party is looking at winning 125 seats and we are well on course to do that. Opposition to the BJP government this time wasn’t there the last time. People are agitated. The entire country saw the mismanagement during COVID, especially in the state which was strong even before independence.”

“There was Morbi incident. We demanded a fair probe by a sitting or retired judge of HC. But it didn’t happen. Gujarat HC took suo moto cognisance. People died due to illicit liquor. The government’s politics of gimmicks are not going to work, there will be surprising results,” he added.

Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over their frequent visits to the state lately, Gehlot claimed that they are doing so as the BJP is “being wiped out of Gujarat”.

“Ever since they won UP polls, PM Modi-Amit Shah started coming here (Gujarat) regularly. It means they feel BJP is being wiped out of here. What does it mean if they come here every week? Shows their weak condition. So, both of them set a camp here,” he said.

When asked about Rahul Gandhi’s absence from the election campaign in Gujarat, the Congress leader said that the former party president is giving priority to the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“We don’t need to do it. Rahul Gandhi is carrying out the yatra for every state, including Gujarat. Every household knows the issues being raised by him. It wasn’t possible for him to be here physically as he is giving priority to the yatra. He’s coming here today and will speak his mind,” he said.

He also took a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party, which is also in the fray and looking to make inroads into Gujarat, and claimed that the party’s credibility has been reduced.

“Someone should ask Kejriwal why did they suddenly withdraw the campaign from Himachal? They have just propped candidates there. Who knows if they withdraw from here too? Are they colluding with BJP? Their credibility has gone down,” he said.

Gehlot slammed the BJP over the ‘love jihad’ issue and accused the party of doing politics on with an aim to target “one community”.

“It’s an unfortunate incident. It has been given a name and ‘jumla’ has been made. Inter-caste and interfaith marriages have been taking place for a long time now. But politics is being done on the basis of the manner in which one community has been targetted,” he said.

Voting for the two-phased Gujarat Assembly elections will take place on December 1 and 5, and the counting of votes will take place on December 8. (ANI)

Polls To Decide Gujarat Fate In Next 25 Years: Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Assembly elections in Gujarat will determine where the state will be in the next 25 years.

Addressing a public rally in the Botad district of Gujarat on Sunday, the PM said it was for voters to shape the destiny of the state in the coming years.

Exhorting people to vote the BJP back to power in the western state, the PM, during his 30-minute-long speech in his native tongue, Gujarati, said, “This election is not only for the next five years, it will determine what Gujarat looks like in the next 25 years.”

The PM’s visit to the Botad district was part of a jam-packed campaign schedule on Sunday.

However, he did visit the Somnath temple earlier on Sunday and offered prayers.

Later, at a separate public rally at Dhorarji, the Prime Minister took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his image with social activist Medha Patkar on the sidelines of the Maharashtra leg of the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

Without naming Rahul, the PM said, “You would have seen a picture published in the newspaper of a Congress leader standing with those who oppose the Narmada Project. You should ask them with what face are they coming to seek votes from you. They did everything to stall the Narmada project for decades together and ensured that no money, including from the World Bank, came to Gujarat. They maligned the image of Gujarat.”

He said the matter eventually went to court and the woman, who spearheaded the movement against the Narmada project, was pictured along with the Congress leader.

“This shows that you (Rahul) are only working to destoy Gujarat,” PM Modi said at Dhoraji.

The Assmeboy polls in Gujarat will be conducted in two phases, on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place, along with those of Himachal Pradesh, on December 8.

The state has been a BJP stronghold for long and the party has set its sights on returning to power with a handsome majority this time as well.

However, it faces a stiff electoral challenge from the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has named Isudan Gadhvi as its chief ministerial candidate.

Congress is also hoping to put its best electoral foot forward to unseat the BJP government. (ANI)

Lashing out at Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against VD Savarkar, BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday said that the Congress leader is out on the road doing Bharat Jodo Yatra to “not to unite India, but to break it”.

“Just yesterday, Rahul Gandhi gave a condemnable statement against freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. This shows what their thinking is, they have not come out to unite India, they have come out to break it,” Nadda said while addressing an election rally in Gujarat’s Surat.
He further accused Gandhi of standing with those who protested against the hanging of Afzal Guru, who was the mastermind of the Parliament attack, on the Jawaharlal Nehru University premises in 2016.

“Development is associated with us. Congress always works to break the country. Rahul Gandhi even went to Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University and stood with those who protested against the hanging of Afzal Guru, mastermind of the Parliament attack,” he alleged.

Nadda alleged that all the parties in the country did vote bank politics and worked to divide the people of the country into castes and religions, while only the BJP worked on the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas”.

Further slamming Congress over their stand on the Jan Dhan Account, Nadda said that the party made fun of the move by the Centre, but today nearly 47 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened.

“Congress was making fun of us when BJP was opening “Jan Dhan Account”. But today 47 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened. After the account was opened, Modi ji made direct transfers of 500-500 hundred rupees for 3 months to the accounts of 20 crore women during Corona,” he said.

Comparing the developmental work done by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and PM Modi in the medical sector, the BJP chief said that the former had opened only 1 AIIMS while the latter has opened 15 AIIMS in the country.

“In 1960, Jawaharlal Nehru made only 1 AIIMS in the country. Atal ji made 6 AIIMS and today Modi ji made 15 AIIMS. 200 new medical colleges have opened. New dimensions of development are being written,” he said.

Nadda Holds Series Of Meetings, Meets State In-Charges

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J P Nadda on Tuesday held a meeting with the party’s newly appointed state in-charges and discussed ways to strengthen the organisation and prepare for 2024 general elections.
During the meeting, Nadda asked the in-charges to stay connected with the workers on ground and tell people about Narendra Modi-led government’s work done across the last 8 years, sources said.

“We were told that we need to keep visiting the state and keep highlighting the issues that concern particular state so that immediate feedback and cognizance can be taken,” a source told ANI.

This was Nadda’s first meeting with the party’s newly appointed state in-charges. The message by saffron party leadership was very clear for the newly appointed in-charges about making sure that the party strengthens its organisational base from right the booth level onwards.

Another source told, “We were told that we need to keep visiting the state and stay connected. This will keep the party cadre morale high.”

The party top leadership has asked the state in-charges to make frequent visits to the states assigned to them and that each one must maintain complete accountability.

“BJP is not a shortsighted party but a party with distinct vision and in for a long haul and therefore continuity in work in the organisation will hold the key,” a source told ANI about the message from the top brass.

Another meeting is also expected to take place with all the state in charges soon.

On 9tn September, BJP national president JP Nadda appointed in-charges for various states and union territories including poll-bound states like Tripura and Telangana.

Bhupender Yadav was replaced by general secretary Vinod Tawde in Bihar whereas Harish Dwivedi continues to be the co-incharge. Om Mathur is the in-charge for Chhattisgarh. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has been given an organisational responsibility and made in charge of Haryana.

Vinod Sonkar who was in charge of Tripura which goes into election next year has been replaced by former union minister and Noida MP Dr Mahesh Sharma. Former Gujarat chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also been given organisational responsibilities in Punjab and Chandigarh.

Tarun Chugh national general secretary continues to be in charge of Telangana. Kerala has a new in charge in the form of former union minister Prakash Javadekar.

National general secretary Dilip Saikia has been replaced by Dr Laxmi Kant Bajpai in Jharkhand where the BJP locked in the bitter battle with th ruling JMM-Congress. Recently Bajpai was brought to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh and has also been made the chief whip of the party in the Rajya Sabha

Notably, there are elections in the two state- Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in the coming months. In the first part of the year 2023, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland will witness elections and the party is preparing for all the state elections.

While the BJP is in power in Meghalaya and Nagaland in alliance with NDA, the party stunned everyone with the Tripura elections in 2018 and also is looking towards repeating its performance.

Karnataka state in which the BJP is in power for the longest will also be a stiff challenge for the saffron party with the kind of backlash that chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has been facing in the recent.

While the BJP continues to be in power in Madhya Pradesh with Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the helmit will be a stiff challenge for them to come back to power in states of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, which they lost in the last election. (ANI)

Shah: India Becoming 5th Largest Economy In World Overtaking UK

Highlighting the country’s growth stride, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that India, which was ranked 11th on the list of the world largest economies in 2014, has today overtaken the UK to occupy the 5th position.

Addressing a public rally here, Shah said, “This Amrit Kaal is the time to set goals for the people of the country. I want to tell all the youth of the country that you must decide a goal of your life for the country and definitely take a resolution.”
“In 2014, our country stood at 11th position in world economy list. Today we have overtaken the UK to hold the 5th position. We have conveyed it to the world that in 75 years, we have moved ahead of you and made our independence meaningful,” added the Home Minister.

Pertinent to mention, India has overtaken Britain to become the world’s fifth largest economy and as per International Monetary Fund (IMF) projections, only USA, China, Japan, and Germany are now ahead of India in terms of the volume of the national economy.

The lead was attained during the last three months of 2021 and extended in the first quarter of 2022. India has jumped six positions over the last decade. Only a decade ago, it was in the eleventh position while the UK occupied the fifth rank. It has also extended its share in the global GDP by nearly one percentage point since 2014 when it was the 10th largest economy in the world. India’s share in the global GDP is now 3.5 pc as against 2.6 pc in 2014.

Shah is on a two-day visit to Bihar. Earlier today, he inaugurated five Border Out Posts of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Kishanganj.

Lauding the role of the SSB in the battle against Naxalism, the Union Home Minister said owing to their “tough fight”, Naxalism has been finished in Bihar and Jharkhand regions.

“SSB jawans have fought a tough fight against Naxalism rampant in the northeast. As a result, Naxalism is on the brink of ending in Bihar and Jharkhand regions, we can even say it is finished here,” Shah said while speaking on the occasion.

Acknowledging their duty, the Home Minister said that the SSB has the toughest duty to perform because of the open border with Nepal and Bhutan.

“Sitting in Delhi, one thinks you have the easiest duty as we’ve friendly relations with both nations (Nepal and Bhutan). But when one comes to the border, we realise that you have the toughest duty as it’s an open border,” he said.

“The responsibility increases if it’s an open border. However friendly may the relations be, even if the neighbouring nations have no ill intentions, there are a few elements in society who use open borders for unauthorised earning – be it smuggling, animal smuggling or infiltration,” the Minister added.

Earlier today, Shah offered prayers at Budhi Kali Mata Temple at Subhashpally Chowk of Kishanganj.

Meanwhile, speaking on Nitish Kumar, Shah on Friday addressed the ‘Jan Bhavna Mahasabha’ rally and said that the people of the state will “wipe out the Lalu-Nitish duo” in the 2024 general elections and the party will come to power in the state in 2025.

Addressing the ‘Jana Bhavna Mahasabha’ in Bihar’s Purnea, Shah said, “In 2014, you (Bihar CM Nitish Kumar) only had 2 LS seats, ‘naa ghar ke rahe the, naa ghaat ke’. Let the 2024 LS elections come, the Bihar public will wipe out the Lalu-Nitish duo. We’re, with a full majority, going to come to power here in 2025 polls”.

Shah further said that Nitish Kumar does not favour any political ideology, and can join hands with any party to stay in power.

“Nitish Kumar is not in favour of any political ideology. Nitish ji can leave socialism and go with Lalu ji also, can do casteist politics. Nitish ji can leave socialism and sit with the Left, Congress. He may also leave RJD and join BJP. Nitish has only one policy – my chair should remain intact,” he said. The Home Minister said that danger of “‘Jungle-raj’ is looming over Bihar”. (ANI)

Amarinder: No Modern Defence Equipment During Antony’s Tenure As Def Min

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday accused the Congress of not taking steps for supplying defence forces with modern equipment despite India being surrounded by two hostile neighbours and said during the tenure of AK Antony as defence minister in UPA governments “not even one type of weapon was purchased for Army, Navy or Airforce”.

Amarinder Singh, who formally joined the BJP at the party headquarters on Monday, said necessary weapons are being procured by the BJP-led government.
Punjab Lok Congress, headed by Amarinder Singh, also merged with the BJP.

Amarinder Singh said it is time to join a party that is looking after the interests of the country.

He said China had gone ahead of India in terms of modern defence equipment and “it is fault of Congress”.

“We are hemmed in by two hostile nations China and Pakistan and we (Punjab) are the ones suffering. It is our duty to protect our state and country. Unfortunately, China is way ahead of us in weaponry and it is the fault of Congress. I am not saying this because I am no longer part of Congress but I don’t think that in the four terms that AK Anthony was there, not even a one type of weapon was ever purchased for Army, Navy or Airforce. Now weaponry is coming which is necessary for us if we are to secure our nation”.

Antony was Union Defence Minister for the most part of the two Congress-led UPA governments from 2004 to 2014.

Amarinder Singh BJP was looking after the interests of the country.

“Now is the time that we should think that what we should do for our country and for ourselves… we have seen with Congress for so many years and now is the time that we should go to a party that looks after the interest of the country and that is BJP,” he said.

Amarinder Singh also referred to efforts by Pakistan to create trouble in Punjab.

“Punjab is a border state, and I have seen our relations with Pakistan deteriorating…Drones are coming into our territory now to create complete chaos in Punjab. China is also not far from us. It’s our duty to protect our state and the country,” he said.

Further, Amarinder thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Party President JP Nadda for welcoming him.

“I am today grateful to the PM, Home Minister and President Nadda Ji for welcoming… We are a local party but we have grown with time and we have made our reach and support in Himachal Pradesh too…”

Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh formally joined the BJP on Monday at the party headquarters here in the presence of union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kiren Rijiju.

Cong Prez Elections Are Fake, Mughal-Style Coronation: Poonawalla

Taking a potshot at Congress over its upcoming presidential election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday said that the entire process is a “Mughal-style coronation” and is “fake and fabricated”.

This comes after various state units of the party including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Bihar and Tamil Nadu demanded that Rahul Gandhi, who was earlier the party president before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and later stepped down, should reclaim his previous position (party chief) in the party. Sonia Gandhi has been the interim president of Congress since Rahul backed off.
Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla said, “Many of the Congress leaders have said that the party’s election is a sham. It is not free and fair, but fake and fabricated. 11It is a Mughal-style coronation.”

Alleging that there is “no internal democracy” in Congress, the BJP leader said that the party workers have “accepted” that there can be “no party president other than a Gandhi family member”.

“It is now clear that there is no internal democracy in Congress, and neither is there any responsibility. A family is chosen over performance. The party is passing resolutions to make the one its president who has lost 40 out of 50 elections. It is an acceptance by the party that there can be no party president other than a Gandhi family member. What’s the need for the drama of elections, coronation should be done straight away,” he said.

Shehzad Poonawalla also took a jibe at senior party leader P Chidambaram’s remark in which he stated that whoever becomes the President of Congress, Rahul Gandhi’s place in the party “will always remain pre-eminent”, and said that Rahul Gandhi will be like a “remote control” for the party president.

“Chidambaram has to say that if someone other than Rahul Gandhi becomes the party president. he will only be for name sake. Just like Manmohan Singh’s remote control as a prime minister was in the hands of Sonia Gandhi, the remote control of the party president will be in the hands of Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

It is worth noting that the nominations for the Congress President’s election will start from September 24. In elections, only ‘nominated’ voters cast their votes on behalf of the PCC office bearers and the party high command. Many party leaders believe that for more than two decades, the leadership of the party is in the hands of the Gandhi family, so the loyalty of voters is natural in them. But, many leaders like Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, and Manish Tewari in the party have exposed many flaws in the entire election process and questioned the party.

Congress said that the election for its president will be held on October 17, and its result will be declared on October 19. (ANI)

Captain Amarinder Singh To Join BJP On Monday

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will join the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday.

According to Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal, Amarinder Singh is also likely to merge his party PLC with the BJP in the national capital on September 19.
The development comes days after Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

“Had a very productive meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. Discussed various issues pertaining to National security, the rising cases of narco-terrorism in Punjab and the future roadmap for the overall holistic development of Punjab,” Singh had tweeted.

8 Congress MLAs, Including Kamat, Lobo Likely To Join BJP Today

Ahead of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, eight Congress MLAs, including former Goa CM Digambar Kamat and Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo met with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the Assembly Complex.

The eight MLAs who met with CM Sawant are Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Phaldesai, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, Aleixo Sequeira and Rudolf Fernandes.
After holding a meeting with Congress Legislature Party, Lobo told ANI that they “will join BJP”, however no official confirmation from the Sawant has come forward yet.

The development came amid the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is being held to combat the BJP-led Centre and awaken the country’s people to the dangers of economic inequalities, social polarisation, and political centralization.

The Yatra includes Padayatras, rallies, and public meetings which will be attended by the senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Days ago on September 4, Gujarat Youth Congress President Vishwanathsinh Vaghela resigned from his post which is considered to be a major jolt for the party.

On September 2, party leader Rajinder Prasad, who is also the son of late Master Beli Ram Sharma from Nowshera, Rajouri, resigned from all posts and the primary membership of the party. Prasad blamed the ‘coterie’ system for being a reason for the ‘demise’ of the party.

In recent months, Rajinder Prasad and several high-profile leaders have quit Congress.

The exit of veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Cong, months before the upcoming Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls, as well as the general elections in two years’ time, dealt a huge blow to party.

Jaiveer Shergill, who is a lawyer by profession and was one of the prominent ones among young Congress leaders, on August 24, tendered his resignation claiming that the vision of the decision-makers no longer was in sync with the aspirations of the youth.

Earlier this year in May, senior Cong leader Kapil Sibal, a prominent face of the G-23 group of dissenting leaders, resigned from the party and filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections as an independent candidate backed by the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar too parted ways with the Cong in May this year. Former Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar in February also resigned from Congress after a long association of 46 years with the party.

Back in May, Gujarat Patidar leader Hardik Patel had quit the party after he felt that he was being “ignored”. (ANI)
