Bidhuri Ducks Queries On Communal Slur In Lok Sabha

Facing a backlash over his tirade against BSP MP Danish Ali on the floor of the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the country’s successful lunar landing mission — Chandrayaan-3, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri on Sunday sidestepped a direct query on his remarks.

To a question on his remarks, which saw the BSP MP writing to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several Opposition members calling for his dismissal from the Lower House as well as the BJP, Budhuri on Sunday said, “No comments.”

He added that Speaker Birla was “looking into the matter”.

Meanwhile, weighing in on the controversy around Bidhuri’s remarks, fellow BJP leader and MP Ravi Kishan said no member should be allowed to get away with such comments in a “temple of democracy”.

“No elected member of the Parliament, which is a temple of democracy, should be allowed to make such comments. His remarks were unpardonable. I have many Muslim friends, some of whom are associated with show business. We have appeared in films together over the years. What Ramesh Bidhuri said about Danish Ali in Parliament was not at all in good taste. I don’t condone his statement,” Kishan, a Lok Sabha member from Gorakhpur, told ANI.

He, however, added that the Speaker acts on his fellow party MP over his remarks directed at the BSP leader, similar action should follow against the latter as well.

“If the Speaker acts against Ramesh Vidhuri, then similar action should follow against Danish Ali as well. Twice when I stood up in the House twice to speak, he made indecent comments about me. I have no qualms in saying that whatever Bidhuri-ji said has lowered the dignity of the Parliament. But Danish Ali shouldn’t just be seen as a victim here but also as an accused. He used filthy language about PM Modi when he rose to address the House. We have been members of Parliament for 4 to 5 years. Whenever someone from the BJP stands up to speak in Parliament, they (Opposition members) provoke and heckle us a lot.”

“I have personally been at the receiving end of Danish Ali’s offensive remarks. My only contention is that if action has to be taken against Vidhuri-ji, similar action should follow against Danish Ali as well. Footage of his (offensive) remarks in Parliament should be taken out and a committee should be put together to go over it,” Kishan added.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Danish Ali after he wrote to the Speaker about Bidhuri’s rant against him.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rahul said, “
Nafrat ke Bazaar mein Mohabbat ki Dukan
(We are running a shop of love in the market of hate).”

The BJP, meanwhile, issued a show cause notice to Bidhuri on the instruction of party president JP Nadda for his use of unparliamentary language against BSP’s Danish Ali. (ANI)

Dr Navneet Kumar Pandey, who teaches mechanical engineering, says success of ISRO’s moon mission has made students look beyond civil services or startup ecosystem. His views:

As an academic deeply committed to the pursuit of knowledge and advancement of science, I find myself reflecting on the recent success of India’s Chandrayaan mission and its potential impact on the aspirations of our youth. I believe that Chandrayaan’s triumph is a beacon of hope that can inspire more students to embrace science as a career choice, diverting their ambitions away from the conventional pursuits of startups or the Indian civil services.

Chandrayaan-3 achieved a significant milestone by successfully soft-landing a rover on the moon’s surface. This remarkable feat of engineering and science serves as a testament to the talent and dedication of our country’s scientists and engineers. It also highlights the immense possibilities that await those who choose to tread the path of scientific quests.

In a society where the allure of startup culture and the prestigious allure of the IAS has captured the imaginations of countless young minds, Chandrayaan’s success can serve as a powerful catalyst for change. The fascination with entrepreneurship often stems from the promise of financial success and the allure of being one’s boss. However, science, too, offers the prospect of both intellectual fulfillment and, in some cases, considerable financial rewards. Moreover, the thrill of discovery and the potential to make a profound impact on the world through scientific research are unparalleled.

One of the challenges in convincing students to pursue science has been the perception that it lacks the glamour and recognition of other careers. The IAS, for instance, offers prestige, power, and a chance to influence government policies. While these aspects are undoubtedly appealing, they should not overshadow the fact that science can also be a gateway to societal change and recognition. Chandrayaan’s success has garnered international acclaim and highlighted India’s prowess in the scientific arena, showcasing that scientists too can be heroes and role models.

Additionally, the government and private sector should collaborate to create a supportive ecosystem for scientific research and development. Funding, infrastructure, and mentorship programs can help budding scientists thrive in their chosen fields. Furthermore, public outreach efforts should be intensified to raise awareness about the importance of science and its potential for societal transformation.

Chandrayaan’s remarkable achievement should serve as a wake-up call for students across the nation. While startup culture and the allure of the IAS are undeniably appealing, a career in science can offer an equally rewarding and impactful path. Chandrayaan’s success has illuminated the possibilities that exist within the realm of scientific inquiry and exploration, and it is my hope that this accomplishment will inspire more young minds to pursue careers in science. With the right support and encouragement, India’s youth can embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and excellence, ultimately shaping a brighter future for our nation and the world.

Murmu Confers National Teachers’ Award 2023 To 75 Awardees In Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2023 to 75 selected awardees in Delhi.

Speaking on occasion, President Murmu said, “Our teachers and students should gather detailed knowledge from Charak and Sushruta and from Aryabhatta to Chandrayaan-3, take inspiration from them and work for the glorious future of the country with a broad mind. I firmly believe that our teachers and students will together take India rapidly ahead towards becoming a developed country in Kartavya Kaal.”

She further said that giving students love is more important than giving them education.

“When teachers appreciate or encourage or punish, students remember everything. If they are punished to improve them, students realise it with time. So, I believe that giving them love is more important than giving them education. Our Education Policy gives priority to connecting with Indian culture and pride,” she said.

The award ceremony was held in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. 

According to a government release, each award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.

Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education has been organising a National level function on Teachers Day every year to confer the National Awards to the best teachers in the country, selected through a rigorous, transparent selection process.

From this year, the ambit of the National Teachers’ Award has been expanded to include teachers of the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, it added.

50 school teachers, 13 teachers from higher education and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship have been awarded this year.

Every year, the country celebrates September 5, the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as National Teachers’ Day. The purpose of the National Teachers’ Award is to celebrate the unique contribution of teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who, through their commitment and dedication, have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.

With a view to recognize innovative teaching, research, community outreach and novelty of work the nominations were sought in online mode to maximize participation (Jan Bhagidari).

Chandrayaan-3: ISRO Releases 3D ‘Anaglyph’ Images Of Moon’s Surface

The Indian Space Research organisation on Tuesday put out a 3-dimensional ‘anaglyph’ image of the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander from the south pole of the Moon.

This image features the left image within the red channel, and the right image within the blue and green channels, resulting in a striking cyan hue.

“The Anaglyph presented here is created using NavCam Stereo Images, which consist of both a left and right image captured onboard the Pragyan Rover,” the space agency said on X (formerly Twitter)

Anaglyph is a simple visualization of the object or terrain in three dimensions from stereo or multi-view images.

“In this 3-channel image, the left image is positioned in the red channel, while the right image is placed in the blue and green channels (creating cyan). The difference in perspective between these two images results in the stereo effect, which gives the visual impression of three dimensions. Red and cyan glasses are recommended for viewing in 3D,” ISRO stated.

Notably, these images were released just a day after ISRO announced that the ‘Vikram Lander’ has been set into sleep mode at around 8 am (Indian Standard Time) on Monday morning.

Vikram Lander Is Set Into Sleep Mode: ISRO

In a major development, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced that the ‘Vikram Lander’ has been set into sleep mode at around 08 AM (Indian Standard Time) on Monday morning.

ISRO said that the data collected by the payloads is received at the Earth and the Payloads are now switched off. It is expected by ISRO that Vikram Lander and Pragyaan will awake again on around September 22.

“Vikram Lander is set into sleep mode around 08:00 Hrs. IST today. Prior to that, in-situ experiments by ChaSTE, RAMBHA-LP and ILSA payloads are performed at the new location. The data collected is received at the Earth. Payloads are now switched off. Lander receivers are kept ON. Vikram will fall asleep next to Pragyan once the solar power is depleted and the battery is drained. Hoping for their awakening, around September 22, 2023,” ISRO posted on X.

The Vikram lander was carrying the Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure surface thermal properties, the Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) to measure seismicity around the landing site, the Radio Anatomy of Moon Bound Hypersensitive ionosphere and Atmosphere (RAMBHA) to study the gas and plasma environment, and a passive laser retroreflector array provided by NASA for lunar ranging studies.

Rahul Yaan Not Launched In Last 20 yrs: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday took a potshot at the Congress party saying that they failed to launch Rahul Gandhi in the last 20 years.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday flagged off BJP’s ‘Parivartan Sankalp Yatra’ in Jaisalmer.

Rajnath Singh said “In a country where successful launching and landing of Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan is taking place, Congress’ “Rahul Yaan” has not been launched for the last twenty years.”

The Defence Minister also praised the Indian scientists for the recent successful launch of ‘Chandrayaan-3’.

“No one had ever doubted the capabilities and talent of the Indian Army and Indian scientists. I believe India took the same leap with the success of Chandrayaan 3 on August 23, 2023, that it took in 1998 when it conducted a successful nuclear test,” Rajnath Singh said.

Rajnath also targeted the Congress Party for raising questions on India’s space mission.

“Today India has reached the Moon and Mars and the entire country has successfully launched Aditya Dal-1. Even this time the landing of Chandrayaan took place, even then the Congress tried to raise questions in a subdued voice, but when it saw the mood of the country, it remained silent,” he said.

Before flagging off the ‘Parivartan Sankalp Yatra’, Rajnath offered prayers at Ramdevra Temple in Jaisalmer. Ramdevra temple is sacred to the folk deity of Rajasthan, Baba Ramdevji. The temple marks the eternal resting place of Baba Ramdevji, a saint of the 14th century who Hindus regard as the incarnation of Lord Krishna, while Muslims venerate him as Ramshah Pir.

“I feel happy to be present among you on the sacred land of Ramdevra, the land where an incarnate man like Baba Ramdev took samadhi. This area of ​​Jaisalmer holds a special place in my heart because this entire area is not only a desert land, but it is also the land of heroes and Tapobhoomi as well as the atomic land of India. The land of Pokhran, located nearby, has witnessed not one but five nuclear tests,” the Defence minister said.

“The Battle of “Longewala” was also fought on this soil during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 in which India won decisively, he added.

Rajasthan is scheduled to go to the polls later this year with the BJP and the incumbent Congress locked in a straight fight.

In 2018 the Congress had won 99 seats while the BJP had won 73 seats in the 200-member house. The Congress led by Ashok Gehlot formed the government with the support of Independents and the BSP. (ANI)

Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1 Spearhead India’s ‘Amrit Kaal’ Growth Journey: Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1 spearhead India’s ‘Amrit Kaal’ growth journey over the next 25 years. 

Union minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, said this while launching the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign at Tikri-1B Panchayat in district Udhampur which marks the beginning of the Amrit Kalash Yatras starting all over the country which includes a collection of soil and rice from every household symbolising the participation of the people in the prosperity of the motherland.

Jitendra Singh also urged people to participate in Amrit Kalash Yatras, take the ‘Panch Pran’ pledge, and commit to India’s progress and development so as to witness India reaching its zenith in 2047.

India is at the crossroads of realising resilient economic growth for its people during the next 25 years – what the government has described as the country’s “Amrit Kaal”.

During the inauguration, Jitendra Singh said, that India’s recent space marvels have only been possible under PM Narendra Modi who has opened up new vistas for India’s space sector through the public-private partnership model and now the ‘sky is not the limit’ dictum has become true for India’s space sector. 

The last nine years have witnessed a quantum jump in India’s space journey, making India standing at par with NASA, and Roscosmos, among others, which are now collaborating with ISRO for space expeditions, Jitendra Singh added.

Further, he said the supremacy that India has evidently demonstrated before the world in terms of its human resources and human calibre through cost-effective means despite constrained resources has put India as a frontline nation and a scientific-cum-economic force to reckon with.

On My Way To Uncover: Chandrayaan-3 Pragyan Rover’s Message

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Tuesday shared a fresh update on Chandrayaan 3’s Pragyan Rover which is on its expedition on the Lunar south pole.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), ISRO said that the rover is now on its way to uncover Moon secrets.

“Hello earthlings! This is #Chandrayaan3’s Pragyan Rover. I hope you’re doing well. I want to let everyone know that I’m on my way to uncover the secrets of the Moon. Me and my friend Vikram Lander are in touch. We’re in good health. The best is coming soon,” ISRO InSight posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). 

Earlier on August 28, ISRO informed that Pragyan Rover came across a 4-meter diameter crater on the lunar surface.

Taking to X (former Twitter), ISRO said, “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: On August 27, 2023, the Rover came across a 4-meter diameter crater positioned 3 meters ahead of its location. The Rover was commanded to retrace the path.”

ISRO said that the rover is now safely heading on a new path.

Chandrayaan-3: Lander Successfully Separates From Propulsion Module

India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission marked another giant leap in its lunar quest as the ‘Vikram’ lander module of the spacecraft successfully separated from the propulsion module on Thursday.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission’s lander is named after Vikram Sarabhai (1919–1971), who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme.

On Wednesday, the spacecraft carried out the final lunar-bound orbit reduction manoeuvre of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, a week ahead of its scheduled landing on the south pole of the moon on August 23.

A GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle was used for the launch of the spacecraft that was placed in the lunar orbit on August 5 and since then it has been through a series of orbital manoeuvres been lowered closer to the moon’s surface.

It has been a month and two days since the Indian Space Research Organisation launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission on July 14. The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota.

ISRO is bidding to make a successful soft landing on the moon, which will make India the fourth country in the world to achieve the feat after the United States, Russia and China.

Chandrayaan-3 components include various electronic and mechanical subsystems intended to ensure a safe and soft landing such as navigation sensors, propulsion systems, guidance and control, among others. 

The stated objectives of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, are safe and soft landing, rover roving on the moon’s surface, and in-situ scientific experiments.

The approved cost of Chandrayaan-3 is Rs 250 crores (excluding launch vehicle cost).

Chandrayaan-3’s development phase commenced in January 2020 with the launch planned sometime in 2021. However, the Covid-19 pandemic brought an unforeseen delay to the mission’s progress.

Chandrayaan-3 is the ISRO’s follow-up attempt after the Chandrayaan-2 mission faced challenges during its soft landing on the lunar surface in 2019 and was eventually deemed to have failed its core mission objectives.

The key scientific outcomes from Chandrayaan-2 include the first-ever global map for lunar sodium, enhancing knowledge on crater size distribution, unambiguous detection of lunar surface water ice with IIRS instrument and more. 

During the Chandrayaan-1 mission, the satellite made more than 3,400 orbits around the moon and the mission was concluded when the communication with the spacecraft was lost on August 29, 2009, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath last week expressed confidence in the progress of the Chandrayaan 3, providing reassurance that all systems were operating as planned.

Chairman S Somanath stated, “Everything is going fine now. There will be a series of manoeuvres until it lands (on the Moon) on 23rd August. The satellite is healthy.”

Moon serves as a repository of the Earth’s past and a successful lunar mission by India will help enhance life on Earth while also enabling it to explore the rest of the solar system and beyond.

Historically, spacecraft missions to the Moon have primarily targeted the equatorial region due to its favourable terrain and operating conditions. However, the lunar south pole presents a vastly different and more challenging terrain compared to the equatorial region. (ANI)

Chandrayaan 3 To Explore Human Habitat On Moon: Union Minister Jitendra

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Saturday that India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan 3 will explore the possibilities of human habitat on the moon.

The Union Minister said Chandrayaan has placed India as the leading global player as far as space technology is concerned.

“The outcomes are going to be at multiple levels to the benefit of India. It has placed India as the leading global player regarding space technology and the space sector,” Jitendra Singh said.

Chandrayaan-3 was successfully launched on GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota as per the scheduled launch time on Friday.

The journey from Earth to the moon for the spacecraft is estimated to take about a month, and the landing is expected on August 23. Upon landing, it will operate for one lunar day, which is approximately 14 Earth days. One day on the Moon is equal to 14 days on Earth.

Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar exploration mission, will make India the fourth country after the US, China, and Russia, to land its spacecraft on the surface of the moon and demonstrate the country’s abilities for safe and soft landing on the lunar surface.

Chandrayaan-3 is the ISRO’s follow-up attempt after the Chandrayaan-2 mission faced challenges during its soft landing on the lunar surface in 2019 and was eventually deemed to have failed its core mission objectives.

Chandrayaan-3 will be inserted into the Lunar Transfer Trajectory after the orbit-raising manoeuvres. Covering a distance of over 300,000 km, it will reach the Moon in the coming weeks. Scientific instruments will study the Moon’s surface and enhance our knowledge.

Chandrayaan-3 is equipped with a lander, a rover, and a propulsion module. It weighs around 3,900 kilograms. (ANI)
