INDIA Bloc Leaders Huddle At Ramlila Maidan Against Kejriwal’s Arrest

Opposition leaders kept pouring in at the INDIA bloc rally held at the capital’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Speaking at the Maha Rally, Aam Aadmi Party Minister Gopal Rai said that it is difficult to understand the need to arrest a sitting Chief Minister.

“Protests have erupted in the whole country after March 21. No one is able to understand why a sitting Chief Minister has been arrested. But it is not just Arvind Kejriwal. Before arresting the Delhi Chief Minister, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested as well. With the misuse of the ED and CBI, democracy is under attack…,” Gopal Rai said at the rally on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters about the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, “Democracy is being attacked. The whole country is standing in the favour of democracy. And we have come here to give the same message.”

DMK MP Tiruchi N Siva said that Chief Minister MK Stalin could not make it to the rally owing to the elections in the state which is going to polls in the first phase on April 19.

“…The INDIA bloc is holding a big rally today. As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned it is facing the parliament elections in the first phase, which is on April 19. So our leader and Chief Minister MK Stalin who was about to participate in this rally is not in a position to attend it. So he has delegated me to attend the rally…,” he said.

Congress MP Deepender Hooda who was also at the Maha Rally said, “This battle is to safeguard the nation, democracy, constitution, future of the nation, youth, farmers and women. This battle is for justice and truth. We believe the whole country will support the INDIA bloc in this battle. Everyone will unite to fight this battle.”

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other INDIA bloc leaders were present at the rally in Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

The grand rally was also graced by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren.

“…We are doing this to save the democracy of our country. The INDIA Alliance parties are gathering here and through this, we want to tell the people of the nation and those who have gathered here today that you have to come forward to fight for your democracy…,” Kalpana Soren said speaking to reporters.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren arrived in Delhi to attend the Maha Rally.

“This Maha Rally of the grand alliance is for saving the democracy and letting people know how the central government is promoting dictatorship,” he said.

Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Akhilesh Yadav said, “The BJP is being criticised all over the world after Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest… The Opposition and the ones who speak the truth are being attacked, the BJP is being criticised…”

Congress General Secretary KC Vengopal accused the central government of refusing to provide a level playing field to opposition political parties ahead of the elections.

“Now the Government of India under the leadership of PM Modi is completely refusing to provide a level playing field to political parties, especially the opposition parties. How can you ensure free and fair elections in this environment? They want to hijack the entire election process, which is why they are targeting only opposition parties and leaders. This is the biggest rally that we are organising against BJP…,” Venugopal said.

In reaction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s, “Can’t trust Congress” remark, the senior Congress leader said, “The issue now is that there is no level playing field for political parties in India, especially opposition parties. The government is misusing the agencies. ED is now working like BJP goons, we are opposing it…”

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that the opposition and the people have come together at the Ramlila Maidan.

“The Opposition and the people have come together here. Now, it is BJP versus India. There should be a change and the dictator government should go now…,” Tiwari said.

My Husband Will Reveal Truth: Kejriwal’s Wife

The wife of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita on Wednesday said that her husband, who is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged excise scam, will reveal the truth regarding the case in court on March 28.

Kejriwal will be produced before the court on Thursday at the end of his ED custody in Delhi excise policy money laundering case.

In a video message, Sunita Kejriwal hit out at the Centre and central probe agency, saying that the ED could not find a single penny in its more than 250 raids conducted in the “so-called liquor scam”.

“In the so-called liquor scam, ED has conducted more than 250 raids. They are searching for the money of this so-called scam. They have found nothing yet. Arvind Kejriwal has said that he will reveal everything in court on March 28. He will reveal where the money of the liquor scam is. He will also provide proof…” she said.

Sunita has met the Delhi CM on Tuesday evening at the ED office.

“I met Arvind Kejriwal in jail yesterday, he has diabetes and sugar level is not under control. However, his determination is strong. Two days ago, he directed Delhi Minister Atishi to resolve the water and sewer-related issues. What wrong did he do? The Centre has filed a case against Arvind Kejriwal even for this. Do they want to finish Delhi?” she added.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor was arrested on March 21 for alleged misdoings in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise policy case under an ongoing money laundering probe by the ED. He is in ED custody till March 28.

The case relates to alleged irregularities and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi excise policy in 2022.In its initial prosecution complaint filed in November 2021, the ED stated that the policy was intentionally designed with loopholes, facilitating the formation of cartels clandestinely to favor AAP leaders.

Additionally, the ED accused AAP leaders of receiving kickbacks from a group of individuals referred to as the “South Group.”

The case originated from a report presented by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022, highlighting purported procedural deficiencies in the development of the policy.

The report said “arbitrary and unilateral decisions” taken by Sisodia in his capacity as Excise Minister had resulted in “financial losses to the exchequer” estimated at more than Rs 580 crore. This report was referred to the CBI, and led to Sisodia’s arrest.

While Kejriwal was not named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case, his name first found a mention in the ED’s chargesheet, wherein the agency claimed that he allegedly spoke to one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, in a video call and asked him to continue working with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair. Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva

Delhi BJP chief Detained While Protesting For Kejriwal’s Resignation

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva has been detained while leading party’s protest demanding resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is in ED custody in the Liquor Excise Policy case.

On Tuesday, BJP hit the streets from Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to Delhi Secretariat via ITO. Police used water cannons at the BJP workers as they tried to march towards the Secretariat crossing the barricades raised by Delhi Police.

“The CM of Delhi is corrupt and dishonest and he has looted the people of Delhi. We are going to the Secretariat to demand his resignation… The government is not running from the jail. Just like AAP’s character, the orders are also fake… Arvind Kejriwal has to resign,” Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva told ANI ahead of getting detained.

“Arvind Kejriwal is in jail and he thinks he will run the government from jail. Previously, many chief ministers were arrested and they also believe the same… Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa had to tender their resignations after their arrests,” another BJP leader said.

He further said, “BJP leaders and party workers are protesting… This protest will not stop till Kejriwal submits his resignation. Arvind Kejriwal used to say he would never take bribes, bungalows, cars but he has taken all the benefits.”

BJP candidate from New Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency Bansuri Swaraj sad, “Running the government from the jail is unfavourable to the people of Delhi… I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal why is his soul asleep. You should resign based on ethics… They are doing press conferences to create false sympathy…”

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protestors were detained outside Patel Chowk metro station while protesting against the arrest of its convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Among those who were detained were Punjab Minister and AAP leader Harjot Singh Bains.

AAP leader and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said that the people of Delhi would continue to fight for Kejriwal.

“The people of Delhi are not able to understand how Arvind Kejriwal was sent to jail and Sharad Reddy was granted bail when both were booked under the same charges…The people of Delhi will continue to fight for Arvind Kejriwal” he said. (ANI)

Kejriwal Will Continue As CM: AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj

Amid continuing protests against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader and minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Saturday said all party MLAs and the councilors arrived at a consensus following consultations that the former will continue to hold the reins of the national capital despite being in ED custody.

Kejriwal, who was arrested on Thursday night, was sent to the custody of the Directorate of Enforcement till March 28 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, on Friday, for alleged money laundering in connection with the excise policy ‘scam’.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Bhardwaj, who was detained along with fellow minister Atishi while leading an AAP protest in the national capital against Kejriwal’s arrest on Friday, said, “Arvind Kejriwal will do whatever people want. He has always made his decisions in public interest and considering the greater good. Before making this decision (to run the affairs of Delhi from ED custody, he got in touch with all his MLAs, held meetings, and met the councilors. We also spoke with people in all wards. Everyone said Arvind Kejriwal should continue as the CM, as there is no rule that stops him from running the government from jail (ED custody).”

On the ongoing raids by ED at the premises of sitting MLA Gulab Singh Yadav, Bhardwaj claims the action was merely aimed at scaring the Opposition into silence.

Accusing the BJP-led Centre of putting the entire Opposition behind bars, the AAP leader said, “People not just in the country but across the world are seeing how the BJP-led government at the Centre is busy putting the entire Opposition in jail. This country is following in the path of Russia (referring to alleged suppression of Opposition leaders in the country). Such occurrences are also commonplace in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and North Korea. Now, India is following in the same path. The largest democracy in the world is now drifting towards dictatorship, where the basic rights of people are denied and the Opposition is muzzled and suppressed.”

“Our top 4 leaders (Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Sanjay Singh) are in jail under false cases. Gulab Singh Yadav, our party in-charge of Gujarat, a state where are fielding candidates to contest the Lok Sabha polls, is being raided today. I know that in the coming days, more AAP leaders as well as those from other parties will be raided till the entire Opposition is scared into silence,” he added.

The ED raids were underway at the residence of the AAP MLA, Gulab Singh Yadav, from Delhi’s Matiala seat.

The comes two days after the central agency arrested Delhi CM Kejriwal, in the excise policy case.

Meanwhile, ED, which was given the custody of Delhi CM Kejriwal until March 28, has alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged excise policy scam.

ED, which was given the custody of Delhi CM Kejriwal until March 28, has alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged excise policy scam.

“Part of the proceeds of crime to the tune of cash of Rs 45 crore approx. has been utilised in the election campaign of AAP in Goa Assembly elections 2022,” the ED alleged.

The agency further claimed that Kejriwal was directly involved in the formation of the Excise policy.

“Arvind Kejriwal has also been intrinsically involved in the entire conspiracy of the Delhi liquor Scam wherein the policy was drafted and implemented in a manner wherein certain private persons were favoured and benefitted in a quid pro quo of receiving kickbacks,” the probe agency said in its remand note.

ED also claimed that due to the actions of Arvind Kejriwal involving excise policy formulation, hatching the conspiracy of kickbacks with the South Group members, and eventually using part of the proceeds of crime generated out of this scheduled offence in the election campaign of AAP for the Goa Assembly elections, it is clear that all these activities were not only done with his knowledge but also his active collusion.

Delhi CM Kejriwal was arrested by the central agency after he skipped multiple summons by the investigation agency, nine in total, calling them “illegal.”

The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi Excise Policy 2022, which was later scrapped. (ANI)

Arvind Kejriwal ED

Preparations Underway To Arrest Him: AAP’s Bharadwaj

After an ED team arrived at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday late evening for questioning in connection with the liquor policy case, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that preparations were underway to arrest him.

Speaking to reporters as police personnel massed outside Kejriwal’s residence in the national capital, Bhardwaj said, “The way the police personnel went inside his residence, not allowing anyone else to go in, it seems that the CM is being raided. It also indicates that preparations are afoot to arrest him.”

Labelling the ED as the BJP’s ‘political team’, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said while the AAP national convenor could be put behind bars, his ideas cannot.

Posting from his official X handle amid the dramatic developments outside Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday evening, the Punjab CM stated, “BJP’s political team (ED) cannot put Kejriwal’s ideology behind bars. It is only the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that can stop the BJP. Thoughts and ideas can never be suppressed.”

Meanwhile, according to sources, Kejriwal’s legal team has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order earlier in the day, denying him interim relief in the excise policy case.

Sources said Kejriwal’s legal team was making an effort to ensure urgent listing of the matter in the apex court.

Denying him interim protection from arrest in the liquor policy case, the Delhi HC ruled that at this state, it was not inclined to do so.

The court passed down the directive during the hearing on a plea by the AAP supremo, urging coercive action against him in connection with the excise policy case.

The bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain passed an interim order on his petition, with the main matter listed for July 22.

During the hearing, senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared for Kejriwal, submitted that the summons issued under Section 50 do not even reveal whether the person summoned is a witness, suspect or accused.

He said his client was apprehending arrest “for political purposes”.

“What prevented you from arresting him, and why are you issuing summonses back-to-back?” the court also asked ED during the arguments.

To that, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju replied that the agency never said they would arrest him.

“The power is there. (However) You come to join the investigation, we may or may not arrest you,” Raju said.

The Additional Solicitor General opposed the plea for interim protection from arrest on maintainability grounds, submitting that the petition was seeking to quash and set aside all proceedings qua the petitioner in the capacity of his being national convener of a political party.

“But here, AAP has not been made an accused yet and the fact that he’s challenged means that his figment of imagination can’t lead to a grant of relief. A person or entity that has not been made an accused can’t seek to strike down a provision,” Raju said.

On Wednesday, during the hearing in a related matter at the Delhi High Court, Kejriwal’s lawyers stated that they have apprehension that the ED will arrest him, adding that he was ready to appear if he was given protection.

Kejriwal, through his plea, sought the declaration of Section (2) (s) OF PMLA to be ultravires, unconstitutional and arbitrary insofar it is construed to include a political party within its ambit and sweep.

Kejriwal’s plea stated that the present petition is being filed in extremely urgent and emergent circumstances where such arbitrary procedure under PMLA is sought to be employed “to create a non-level playing field for the impending general elections scheduled to be held from April 19, 2024, and to skew the electoral process in the favour of the ruling party at the Centre that controls the ED through the Ministry of Finance”.

The ED on Sunday issued two fresh summonses to Kejriwal in two separate cases–the liquor policy case and another linked to the Delhi Jal Board.

The latest summons to the AAP supremo by the ED was the ninth in connection with a money laundering probe related to irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 case. He was asked to appear before the central agency for questioning on March 21.

The fresh summons to the Delhi Chief Minister followed the eighth summons, which he had skipped on March 4.

Last week, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal on two complaints filed by ED for non-compliance with summons issued by the agency. During the hearing, Kejriwal appeared physically before the court.

According to the ED, the agency wants to record Kejriwal’s statement in the case on issues like the formulation of policy, meetings held before it was finalized, and allegations of bribery.

In its sixth charge sheet filed in the case on December 2, 2023, naming AAP leader Sanjay Singh and his aide Sarvesh Mishra, the ED claimed that the AAP used kickbacks worth Rs 45 crore generated via the policy as part of its assembly elections campaign in Goa in 2022.

The now-scrapped excise policy was aimed “at revitalizing the city’s flagging liquor business” and replacing a sales-volume-based regime with a licence fee for traders.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena had ordered a probe into alleged irregularities in the policy. AAP has accused Saxena’s predecessor, Anil Baijal, of sabotaging the move with a few last-minute changes that resulted in lower-than-expected revenues.

Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are in judicial custody in the case. Sisodia, who was the then Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the CBI on February 26 following several rounds of questioning. On October 5, ED arrested Sanjay Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha member. (ANI)

MLA Poaching Claim by AAP

MLA Poaching Claim: Crime Branch Serves Fresh Notice On Kejriwal

Delhi Police Crime Branch on Sunday served a fresh notice on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asking him to respond to his charges of poaching attempts by the BJP with evidence by Monday.

The Crime Branch also served a notice on AAP leader and minister Atishi in the poaching claim case, asking her to respond within three days.

“An inquiry is being conducted by the Crime Branch of Delhi police, on a complaint received in respect of the allegations made by you that the BJP has offered Rs 25 crore each to the sitting MLAs of AAP for leaving the party and joining the BJP. These allegations were posted by you on X on January 27, 2024,” a letter undersigned by Pankaj Arora, ACP of Central Range Crime said.

“The Crime Branch has written in the notice that from your tweet it appears that you have evidence and information related to a cognizable crime, please submit the information and answers to the Crime Branch by February 5,” it added.

Earlier in the day, a Crime Branch team arrived at the door of AAP leader Atishi to serve a notice in connection with her claim that the BJP was trying to prise away the party’s MLAs through cash inducements and topple the government as part of ‘Operation Lotus 2.0’.

Meanwhile, weighing in on the notices to the AAP convenor and Atishi, fellow party leader Jasmine Shah told ANI that they have no mention of the FIR filed by the BJP in connection with the poaching claim but are merely some letters on a piece of white paper.

“Yesterday, a team of Delhi Police Crime Branch was at the residence of CM Arvind Kejriwal. They wanted to serve a notice on him. They waited five hours before handing the notice to an official from the CM’s office. The notice does not have a word on the FIR and neither is it a summons. It doesn’t even say anything about a preliminary inquiry. There is also no mention of any section of the IPC or CrPC. All it has are words inscribed on a piece of white paper,” he said.

However, hitting back at the AAP, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said Kejriwal and his ‘henchmen’ are not just the ‘un-crowned kings of corruption’ but have also become ‘fugitives’.

“When allegations are made against them, they are on the run; when they make allegations against others, they hit and run. If your allegations are not baseless and you have proof, provide the evidence to the police, cooperate with the investigation and tell everyone how and which MLA was being lured. Is this the same kind of allegation that you had levelled against late Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari, only to apologise later? Earlier, they used to say they’d resign if a single finger was raised against them and an investigation was called for. Today, forget resigning, they are not even ready to cooperate with the investigation,” he said.

BJP MP Pravesh Verma said the AAP is in the habit of making such allegations to divert public attention from allegations or cases against them.

“Till now he (Kejriwal) has not come clean on which MLAs were called and approached with cash inducements to flip. Neither has he said who from the BJP met these AAP leaders. We met the Delhi Police commissioner and told him that if a CM levels such accusations against our party, we will not take it lying down. When the Delhi Police Crime Branch was at their doorsteps to serve notices for evidence, they ran away. If there was any truth to their claims, they would have volunteered and responded to these notices,” Verma told ANI.

Former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir told ANI that those who are true and honest never run away from the law.

“They face every situation as opposed to running away and taking cover under excuses. It only goes to show their thinking and mindset,” Gambhir said.

Atishi, earlier, claimed that the BJP approached several AAP MLAs with bribes and threats in a bid to get them on their side. (ANI)

Will See How Far Kejriwal Can Run: BJP Delhi Chief

Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed a CBI probe into alleged procurement and supply of spurious and non-standard drugs in government hospitals and mohalla clinics in the national capital, the BJP’s Delhi chief Virendraa Sachdeva on Friday said he wanted to see how far the AAP convenor can ‘run’ from ongoing investigations.

The Delhi CM has already skipped three summonses by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the excise policy case, accusing the BJP-led Centre of nursing ‘political vendetta’ and using central agencies at its disposal to hound and harass Opposition leaders.

Speaking to ANI on Friday, the BJP’s Delhi chief gunned for Kejriwal, saying, “We welcome the (MHA’s) decision to institute a CBI investigation into the supply of below-standard drugs to government hospitals in the national capital. The probe will throw new light on the reasons why such low-quality medicines were supplied to government hospitals, thereby endangering the health of patients. It will also reveal the extent of kickbacks to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues. This scam tantamounts to playing with public health. It is shameful.”

“We will see how far and how much Kejriwal can run from ongoing investigations,” Sachdeva added.

Earlier, on Friday, the MHA recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged procurement and supply of spurious and non-standard drugs in hospitals run by the Delhi government and mohalla clinics, sources said.

Further, according to sources, the MHA also directed the CBI to register an FIR into the supply of ‘sub-standard’ drugs to government hospitals in the Capital.

Delhi government’s Directorate of Vigilance had on December 26 written to the Union Home Ministry, requesting it to assign the investigation into the supply of “sub-standard” drugs to state-run hospitals to the CBI.

AAP leader and Vigilance Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote to the Health Secretary over the allegation of sub-standard drugs at public hospitals and the primary health clinics, which the AAP government has often highlighted as an illustration of its model of governance, urging the latter to procure alternative arrangements.

“It has been brought to my notice that the Vigilance Department, GNCTD, has directed the secretary (health) to immediately remove the five drugs that were ‘not of standard quality’, from the stock where they have been supplied,” read Bhardwaj’s letter to the Health secretary.

“It was observed that in the recent past, certain essential consumables like absorbent cotton wool and rolled bandages were found ‘not of standard quality’ and were removed from the stock where they were supplied. The hospital authorities then did not make any alternative arrangements for the same and consequently, patients were inconvenienced since they were required to buy these consumables out of their own pockets,” it read further.

“Since the aforementioned five drugs, which are to be removed from the stock, are also essential in nature and required for treatment of the hypertensive disorder, seizure disorder, gastritis infections and respiratory diseases, hence, alternative arrangements should immediately be in place to make them available so that the general public is not inconvenienced and the treatment of patients is continued uninterrupted,” Bhardwaj wrote to the Health secretary.

“You are directed to inform me regarding the alternative arrangements made by DGHS and the hospitals for making available the five medicines, amlodipine, levetiracetam, pantoprazole, cephalexin and dexamethasone, of standard quality and their fresh stock position in the healthcare facilities, at the latest within a week,” the letter stated further.

Earlier, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena wrote to the Home ministry, recommending a CBI inquiry in the matter. (ANI)

Kejriwal CAA

Kejriwal To Skip ED Summons Again, Calls Notice Illegal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not appear before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam case, the Aam Aadmi Party sources said on Wednesday.

ED issued a third summons to CM Kejriwal earlier on December 22 last year, in connection with the excise policy case, asking him to appear before the agency on January 3.

As per the party sources, Kejriwal in his reply to ED has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the investigation but declined to appear today calling the notice “illegal”.

Kejriwal further questioned the timing of the notice as a move to stop him from electioneering ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024, the party sources said.

According to sources Kejriwal is ready to cooperate in ED investigation but the ED notice is illegal. Sources claim that the agency intends to arrest Arvind Kejriwal as they want to stop Kejriwal from the election campaign. The AAP has questioned the timing of the notice just before the 2024 elections.

The Delhi CM was first called by the central agency to appear on November 2, but he did not depose, alleging that the notice was “vague, motivated and unsustainable in law.”

He further alleged that the said summons appeared to be politically motivated and issued for extraneous considerations.

Kejriwal was issued the second summons by the ED on December 18, asking him to depose at the federal agency’s office on December 21, which the Chief Minister skipped.

Kejriwal was not named as an accused in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 17, last year.

In February 2023, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the opposition. AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh was also arrested in the same scam in October 2023. (ANI)

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

One Day AAP Will Rule The Country: Kejriwal

Claiming that one day the Aam Aadmi Party will “rule the country, leaving behind the BJP and Congress,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on Friday said that AAP is the “fastest growing party in the world.”

The AAP convenor further said that the “Guinness Book of World Records should feature the party.”

While addressing the AAP ‘Karyakarta Sammelan’, he said, “All the workers and office-bearers (of AAP), who have come here, I want to congratulate you that you are part of the fastest growing party in the world. To date, there has not been any party in the whole world that has progressed so fast. I think we should ask the Guinness Book of World Records to feature us.”

He said that the party formed its government in Delhi with a thumping majority within a year of the AAP’s formation 10 years ago, and went on to emerge victorious in the neighbouring Punjab last year.

“Then in Gujarat, we won 5 seats with 14 per cent vote share. I am confident that the next government in Gujarat will be formed by Aam Aadmi Party,” Kejriwal said.

“Now we have also got the status of national party. We are in third position in the entire country out of 1350 registered political parties. And at the pace we are growing, my heart says that one day the Aam Aadmi Party will rule the country, leaving behind BJP and Congress,” Kejriwal said in his address to the party workers.

Hitting out at the BJP over the central agencies’ actions against his party and colleagues, the AAP national convenor claimed that “PM Modi wants to form government in Delhi.”

“Since AAP is growing fast, it is natural that big conspiracies are being made against AAP. BJP and PM Modi realised that they can’t win against AAP in Delhi. So they (BJP) made a conspiracy– liquor policy scam. An actual liquor scam is happening in Gujarat so many people have died here,” he said.

The Delhi Chief Minister, who himself has skipped an ED summon in connection with the excise policy scam, said that the AAP leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and senior leader Manish Sisodia have been arrested in a “fake case.”

“Our leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Satyender Jain and Vijay Nair were arrested in a fake case and now they’re going to arrest me, their intention is to topple the AAP government and PM Modi wants to form government in Delhi, they know they can’t defeat us through elections. I want to tell them that even if they put me in jail, AAP will win from jail,” Kejriwal added.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh was arrested on October 4, after a day-long questioning by the ED officials at his Delhi residence.

Allegedly, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also involved in the same liquor policy scam. He is currently lodged in jail in connection with the same. The former Delhi Deputy CM and excise minister was first arrested by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam.

Kejriwal skipped the Enforcement Directorate’s summon earlier this month and went to attend a roadshow in Madhya Pradesh, where Assembly elections were held today.

The Delhi CM had demanded the ED to withdraw its “vague and motivated” notice summoning him for questioning, claiming that it was “illegal and politically motivated”. (ANI)
