Sharad Pawar Nitish Kumar

Sharad, Nitish Plan Joint Oppo Fight Against BJP

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national president Sharad Pawar on Thursday met with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar in Mumbai and the two leaders stressed on the need for opposition parties to work together in the interest of the nation.

Addressing a joint press conference with Kumar the veteran NCP leader said, “In the wake of the situation in the country, to save democracy, it is important to work together. After looking at the condition of the country, it seems that if we work together, there will be support for the alternative that the country needs.
“Yesterday, there were polls in Karnataka. As per my information, people there will oust BJP and elect a secular government”, Pawar said.

Addressing the joint press conference, the Bihar chief minister lashed out at the BJP.

“What the BJP is doing, is not in the country’s interest. So, the more the number of Opposition parties comes together, the better it is in the interest of the nation. We have spoken with several political parties. We will sit together and take further decisions,” Kumar said.

Asked if Sharad Pawar will be the main face of an Opposition alliance, the Bihar CM said, “There will be nothing more delightful than that…I have told him that he has to work strongly not only for his party but the entire country.”

Nitish Kumar who is also the JD(U) leader accompanied by Bihar deputy chief minster and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also met with Uddhav Thackeray at ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai.

The JD(U) leader has been meeting Opposition leaders to strengthen the bloc against the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Kumar had caught the national imagination with his pitch for a “united opposition” which, he believes, can take on and defeat the BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha polls. The JD(U) supreme leader, who stunned the BJP last year when he snapped ties will visit Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar later in the day.

In his joint presser with Uddhav Thackeray today the Bihar chief minister speaking on a United Opposition candidate said, “This exercise is not done to advance their personal advance but for the good of the country and to give the people of India a good alternative to the present government.”

Kumar said that a decision on the candidate will be decided after the formation of the United Front and not before that.

“Those who are at the Centre are not working for the country…All political parties in the country need to unite to work together,” the Bihar chief minister said. (ANI)

‘Not Going To NCP’: Tharoor Rejects Chacko’s Invite

Hours after an offer made by Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) state president PC Chacko, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor made it clear that he is not going to NCP. Tharoor also said that there was no such matter discussed with PC Chacko.

Shashi Tharoor reacted to Chacko’s comment today at Kochi while he was speaking to reporters.
Tharoor said, “I need to be welcomed if I am going there. I am not going to NCP. Such matters were not discussed with PC Chacko.”

It was yesterday that Chacko, who was in Congress for a long time welcomed Tharoor to his party at Kannur. The NCP leader said, “If Congress MP Shashi Tharoor comes to NCP, we will accept him warmly. Shashi Tharoor will remain as Thiruvananthapuram MP even if the Congress party rejects him. I do not know why Congress is ignoring Tharoor.”

Chacko also said, “Shashi Tharoor is the only Congress leader capable of challenging the BJP. Can any of the Congress leaders in Kerala express the opinion expressed by Shashi Tharoor on the issue of the construction of Vizhinjam port? It is an example of Tharoor’s political maturity. Can any of the Congress leaders in Kerala make such an opinion?”

“Shashi Tharoor will remain as Thiruvananthapuram MP even if the Congress rejects him. But Congress is the only party that doesn’t understand that. I do not know why Congress is ignoring Tharoor and is it because of jealousy,” he added.

Supriya Sule Joins Bharat Jodo Yatra

NCP Leader Supriya Sule Joins Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra

Nationalist Congress Party leader Supriya Sule and television actor Sushant Singh on Thursday joined the Rahul Gandhi-led Maharashtra leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra.

On the 61st day of the march, Rahul Gandhi-led Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra entered its Maharashtra leg on November 7. The Yatra arrived in Maharashtra’s Nanded later that evening.

Addressing a rally Rahul Gandhi on Monday said, “No force can stop the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in between. The yatra will only stop in J-K’s Srinagar and we will hoist the tricolor national flag there. The aim of the yatra is to unite the country.”

The Congress leader attacked the Centre and alleged that the policies of the government weakened the country’s economy.

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said, “Black money did not come, only poverty came. The economy does not become cashless instead weakened. Terrorism did not end. Crores of small businesses and jobs were lost during demonetization. The ‘Raja’ did the demolition of the economy with the promise of ’50 days’.”

The yatra has already covered parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

The Maharashtra Congress Committee has made elaborate arrangements. They are trying to get massive success in Maharashtra too.

In Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) have agreed to participate in the yatra, adding to its importance

Arvind Sawant and Manisha Kayande will join the yatra from the Udhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena.

Many big congress leaders will be joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra including Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat, Bhaijagtap, Ashok Chavan and others.

Bharat Jodo Yatra, which began on September 7 from Kanyakumari, will cover a further distance of 2,355 km in its 3,570-km march. It will end in Kashmir next year. It is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in the history of India, the Congress claimed earlier in a statement. Bharat Jodo Yatra is getting support from various political parties and social organizations across the country and the response is increasing day by day.

Notably, all the party MPs, leaders, and workers along with Rahul Gandhi are staying in containers. Sleeping beds, toilets, and ACs are also installed in some of the containers. The arrangements have been made keeping in view the intense heat and humidity with the change of places. The Congress suffered a debacle in the assembly polls held earlier this year and the Yatra is seen as an attempt to rally the party rank and file for the upcoming electoral battles. (ANI)

Xi Jinping Elected Chinese President For 3rd Term

Chinese Prez Xi Is All Set For Third Term With Greater Powers

Chinese President Xi Jinping is all set to start his unprecedented third term with an even greater concentration of power as he is retiring top Chinese Communist Party leaders to make way for his own allies.

The once-in-five-year National Congress will be concluded on Saturday. The Congress revealed the newly-formed Central Committee, the party’s main leadership body. Of the 205 members listed, only 11 are women. Xi’s name is included in the list of new Central Committee members, reported CNN.
The newly-formed Central Committee will select a new slate of top leaders and Xi is also expected to be appointed as CCP’s general secretary on Sunday.

The Chinese Premier, the second most powerful official after Xi, is not listed in the new Central Committee, which means that Li will retire from his party role.

At the closing ceremony of the Chinese national Congress, the Communist Party claimed Taiwan as its territory, despite the fact that they have never controlled it, reported CNN.

Meanwhile, today, during the closing ceremony of the National Congress, former Chinese president Hu Jintao was unexpectedly escorted out of the ‘Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Hu Jintao, 79, was removed by unnamed Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents during today’s closing ceremony of the congress, which is held once in five years.

The reason is unclear as to why the Chinese leader was removed, and more details were awaited.

However, information about such incidents is rarely revealed by China.

As Hu was being removed, the former leader looked at Xi Jinping and had a conversation that was not audible to the cameras that captured the moment.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was also seen next to Xi, who also remained stone-faced and did not react as the former Chinese president was being removed.

According to a Reuters report, the Chinese Communist Party amended its constitution to make Xi Jinping the “Core” of its party. It is now expected that Xi Jinping will remain the final authority in China.

Tomorrow, the new members of the party’s Standing Committee will make their first appearance in the “Great Hall of the People,” where the entire 20th National congress took place, and is expected to confirm Xi’s step into a norm-breaking third term and cement his place as China’s most powerful leader in decades, according to CNN.

The congress is taking place at one of the most perilous periods in international affairs in recent years. A war is raging in Ukraine as President Vladimir Putin attempts to burnish his credentials as a great Russian leader, and China remains a staunch supporter of this would-be tsar.

At the same time, Taiwan Strait tensions are at their highest in decades, as China attempts to pummel Taipei into acquiescence. (ANI)

The Bharat Jodo Yatra reached a milestone on Saturday covering 1000 kilometres after starting from Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent launched on 7 September 2022.

The 3500 kilometres yatra will be a historic event for the Congress and the entire country. It is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in the history of India, the Congress said earlier in a statement.

Notably, Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi march was the longest march by foot (389 kilometres in 24 days) between Sabarmati ashram to Dandi (Navasari) in Gujarat state.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra will reach this milestone (1000 kilometres) when it reaches the outskirts of Ballari district, where a massive convention will happen with lakhs of Congress supporters, the party said in its release. (ANI)

CBI Opposes Bail Plea Of Anil Deshmukh in Extortion Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday opposed the bail application filed by former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deshmukh in connection with the Rs 100 crore extortion matter.

Deshmukh had filed a petition for bail in the CBI court, on which the CBI has filed its reply today, to which the lawyer of Anil Deshmukh will now argue on October 18, the next hearing of the case.

Meanwhile, the NCP leader was taken to Jaslok Hospital from Arthur Road Jail today.

He was admitted to Jaslok Hospital today after the special PMLA court had allowed Anil Deshmukh to undergo angiography in a private hospital.

Deshmukh had been accused of asking policemen to collect Rs 100 crores illegally for him every month from bar owners in Mumbai.

Earlier on October 11, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the bail granted to the former home minister in the money laundering case lodged against him by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud refused to interfere with the Bombay High Court order which granted bail to Deshmukh.

Enforcement Directorate has approached the apex court challenging the Bombay High Court’s order granting bail to Deshmukh, who was arrested in connection with a money laundering case.

SC Anil Deshmukh's Bail

SC Refuses To Cancel Anil Deshmukh’s Bail

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to cancel the bail granted to former Maharashtra’s former home minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deshmukh in the money laundering case lodged against him by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud refused to interfere with the Bombay High Court order which granted bail to Deshmukh.
The bench clarified that the observations made by the High Court will not influence the trial and are only confined to the issue of bail.

Enforcement Directorate has approached the apex court challenging the Bombay High Court’s order granting bail to Deshmukh, who was arrested in connection with a money laundering case.

On October 4, the Bombay High Court had granted bail to Deshmukh in a money laundering case being investigated by the ED.

The High Court had ordered that the bail order would be effective from October 13, in order to enable the ED to file an appeal before the Supreme Court.

Deshmukh will continue to be lodged in judicial custody in Arthur Road prison as he is also being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case.

Earlier, on Deshmukh’s plea, the top court had directed the High Court to hear and decide expeditiously his bail plea.

The top court had expressed displeasure that the Bombay High Court has kept the bail application of Deshmukh pending for so many months and asked it to hear the plea of Deshmukh within this week and decide it expeditiously.

It had noted that Deshmukh’s bail plea is pending in the High Court since March 21 and it observed that keeping bail applications pending for eight months is not in consonance with the jurisprudence of bail.

Deshmukh had sought bail from the High Court in the money laundering case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate after the Special Court declined his plea.

Deshmukh was arrested by the ED in November 2021 and is currently in judicial custody.

According to the ED, Deshmukh had misused his position as state home minister and collected Rs 4.70 crore from various bars in Mumbai through some police officers. (ANI)
