Rahul To Also Contest From Wayanad

Senior Congress leader AK Antony on Sunday announced that Congress president Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Wayanad parliamentary constituency in Kerala in addition to Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

“For the past so many weeks there have been continuous requests and demands from the Congress workers and our partners, they feel that Rahul Gandhi should contest from one seat from South India. The requests and demands were mainly raised by Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu,” said Antony.

He further said that there were deliberations done on the issue by Congress leaders and added, “all of us requested Rahul that ignoring the unanimous request from Southern states is not correct. Hence, Rahul must accept the demand”.

“Finally he has given the consent to contest from Wayanad”, said Antony.

On March 15, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah had requested the Congress president to contest from Karnataka.

In its first list released on March 7, Congress had announced that Rahul will contest from Amethi. (ANI)

Rahul Attacks Mamata In West Bengal

Launching his party’s poll campaign in West Bengal, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she makes only “fake promises” and “lies to the people” like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul said the Congress workers are beaten up in West Bengal and added, “let our government to power in Delhi, then you shall see what happens”.

Addressing his maiden poll rally in West Bengal’s Malda, he said, “Did the youth get employment, did the farmers receive any help? Like Modi, Mamata Banerjee makes only fake promises and lies to the people.”

He went on to add, “On the one hand, Narendra Modi ji lies and on the other hand, your Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) keeps on making promises but nothing happens… Mamata has done nothing for the state. She just gives long speeches. Everyone knows about Bengal…the state is running for just one person.”

Rahul expressed confidence that the Congress will form the government in West Bengal in the next Assembly polls.

The Congress President also took a jibe at Modi’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign, saying he is watchman only for the rich people as the poor people do not need guards.

“In 2014, chowkidar (a reference to Modi) said, ‘I do not want to be the Prime Minister, I want to become a ‘chowkidar’. After being caught on his lies, he says ‘we all are ‘chowkidar’. Modi ji, the poor do not keep ‘chowkidars’. Only the rich people do. Modi should know that watchmen are not found in the houses of the poor but only at the residences of rich people like Anil Ambani.”

Rahul also said that the BJP spreads hatred, while his Congress party speaks about brotherhood.

“We bring all religions together and talk about brotherhood, while the BJP spreads hatred among people in forms of language and religion,” he said.

He also said that the Congress has decided to introduce a minimum income guarantee scheme, if it comes to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Under the proposed scheme, a certain amount will be directly deposited in the accounts of the beneficiaries.

“We will fight poverty through minimum income guarantee,” he added.

West Bengal will have polling in all seven phases of the elections which begin on April 11 and conclude on May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Hardik Patel Can't Contest Elections

Hardik Patel Joins Cong Ahead Of Polls

Patidar Agitation leader Hardik Patel officially joined Congress party on Tuesday during a party rally in Ahmedabad that was organised after the Congress Working Committee meeting held in the city.

Patel was inducted into the party in the presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders.

Speaking to media in the city, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Hardik Patel would surely emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

Earlier today, Hardik had said he would help strengthen the ideology of Congress party and take it to the villages.

“Mahatma Gandhi started Dandi March this day and said he (Mahatma Gandhi) will overthrow the British. I am joining the same Congress party which, in the past, has been led by Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, the people who worked to strengthen our country,” he had said.

However, Patel said the party would decide the seat from where he would contest polls.

Patel emerged as the leader of the agitation demanding reservation for the Patidar community in Gujarat in 2015. The people from this community were considered to be bedrock supporters of the BJP. (ANI)

'Modi Politicised Pulwama, Not Cong'

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said it wasn’t Congress that politicised the Pulwama terror attack on CRPF convoy but Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The attack set off aerial strikes in Pakistan by Indian Air Force jets.

“We did not politicise the Pulwama attack in the days following the incident. We held a press conference and said that the Congress party stands with the Defence forces and the government. But it’s unfortunate that when the Congress and other parties were standing in solidarity with the government, the Prime Minister politicised the issue,” Rahul said while addressing party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha election due in April-May.

On February 14, around 40 CRPF personnel were killed when a suicide bomber rammed into a convoy while moving from Jammu to Srinagar in Lethpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed the responsibility of the attack.

Rahul promised that if the Congress is voted to power after the 2019 general elections, the party will give “martyr status” to all paramilitary personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the country.

“I believe that any paramilitary personnel who have sacrificed his life for the country should be given the status of a martyr, irrespective of the force he belongs to. We have decided to give the status of martyr to any security person who sacrifices his life for the country after we form a government in 2019 elections,” he said.

Hitting out at Modi over controversial Rafale deal, Rahul accused the Prime Minister of changing the fighter jets deal on his own.

“Rafale was biggest defence contract in the world, PM Modi changed the contract on his own”, he said adding that Modi gave the contract of Rs 30,000 crore to business tycoon Anil Ambani, who has no experience of manufacturing the fighter aircraft.

The Congress chief said, “Prime Minister Modi promised a special package to Himachal. Congress has waived off farmers’ loans in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. But the Centre has waived off loans of 15 big industrialists, but not of the farmers.”

Continuing his tirade against the Modi government over demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST), Rahul claimed that only poor people stood in line at banks during the demonetisation. He added if the Congress is voted to power, the party will change the GST structure.

“Only poor people stood in line at banks, not rich people, during demonetisation. The money went to banks and from there it went to these rich people’s pockets. Unemployment is highest in 40 years. Modi ji imposed the GST at midnight. Ask any small trader if GST helped them. The GST infact helped the rich businessmen. We will change the GST structure. We will give you simple GST once voted to power in 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” he claimed.

Talking about the farmers, the Congress chief said, “Farmers pay insurance, but the government gave this money to the businessmen. Congress will give a minimum income guarantee to all poor people in the country.”

Concluding his speech, Rahul thanked people of Himachal Pradesh for fighting for the ideology of the Congress.

“On one side there is anger and hatred, on the other side there is Congress. You will be the winner. The Congress will win all the four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal. Congress thank you for fighting for our ideology,” he said.

Modi Lied About Amethi Factory: Rahul

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a factory to manufacture advanced AK-203 rifles in Amethi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi claimed that he had inaugurated the ordnance factory in 2010 and accused the Prime Minister of lying to people.

During his visit to Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency, Prime Minister Modi dedicated to the nation the Joint Venture of Indo-Russian Rifles Pvt Ltd, for Kalashnikov Assault Rifle Production.

However, Rahul has accused the Prime Minister of lying in a post on Twitter in Hindi which roughly translates as, “Dear Prime Minister, I had myself laid the foundation stone for Ordnance Factory in Amethi in 2010. Production of small arms has been going on there since last few years. Yesterday you went to Amethi and lied again. Don’t you feel ashamed at all?”

Soon after Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, BJP leader Smriti Irani criticised the Congress president of lying to the people about development projects in Amethi.

She said the Gandhi scion has “destroyed” Amethi.

“You are so much scared with development of Amethi that you didn’t see that yesterday inauguration of a joint venture took place in Korwa. Under this, an agreement was done between India and Russia to build AK 203 rifle,” Irani tweeted. (ANI)
