Recently, the makers of the upcoming series ‘Taali’ starring Sushmita, shared a video on social media.

The video showcased the intriguing glimpse of Gauri a.k.a Sushmita Sen’s forehead, displaying pride, and bravery in her character as a trans person. Along with a motion poster, Sushmita was heard saying in the background, “Main taali bajati nahi bajwati hoon.

“Taali’ is a biopic on transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, with Sushmita essaying the lead role. The official streaming date of the series is still awaited. The actor dropped her first look from the series last year.

Talking about her look, she earlier said, “A story of struggle, resilience, and indomitable power, that’s Shreegauri Sawant for you! Nothing makes me more proud and grateful than to bring this journey that has been rife with challenges, only to witness a revolution! This one is special for reasons multifold, and I’m really excited to associate with Viacom18 for this one. This is just the beginning, stay tuned for what’s in store!”

Born as Ganesh and raised in Pune, Shreegauri Sawant is a transgender activist from Mumbai. She was one of the petitioners in the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) case of 2013, in connection with which the Supreme Court recognised persons belonging to the transgender community as the third gender. The landmark verdict was delivered in 2014.

The upcoming biopic will shed light on the inspiring life of Shreegauri Sawant — her childhood, transition, and eventual contribution to revolutionising the transgender movement in India. Sushmita’s fierce and bold avatar in and as Shreegauri Sawant has already built anticipation among the audience.

Created by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, the biopic has been helmed by National award-winning director Ravi Jadhav and produced by Arjun Singgh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar & Afeefa Nadiadwal.

Apart from this project, Sushmita will also be seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘Aarya Season 3’. (ANI)

Kashmir Will Have Its Own Film Industry One Day: Sawhny

Film producer Ashok Sawhny ‘Sahil’ expressed happiness on seeing Kashmir becoming a film-shoot hub again and hoped that it will become a prime destination for the film industry.

“I appreciate the J-K government’s move of rolling out a film policy for the smooth film shootings in the valley. This is definitely bringing more films, tourism and employment to the pristine valley,” Sawhny said in a statement.
Sawhny also talked about his plans for shooting his next film amidst the snow-capped mountains of Kashmir.

“Whether it is the film ‘Haider’ or my upcoming film, I believe that Kashmir is the perfect destination for the film shootings. I have visited Switzerland almost fifty times but I have always failed to compare it with Kashmir’s nature and beauty. I am also planning to shoot my next film in the valley,” he added.

Sawhny even rooted for local Kashmiri artistes.

“In my upcoming film which has been shot in J-K, we have introduced the young artists to the world. We have also taken the young musicians from this place,” he said.

The veteran filmmaker-poet can’t wait to see Kashmir having its own film industry one day.

“I believe that if things continue to remain peaceful, Kashmir will have its own film Industry one day,” he said.

Sawhny has produced and penned the lyrics of a Bollywood film recently which was completely shot in J&K’s Bhaderwah region. The film titled ‘Lafzon Mein Pyaar’ is likely to release in theatres in July end.

Sawhny also took a stroll down memory lane and recalled how he spent his childhood days in Kashmir.

“I was born in Lahore (now in Pakistan) in 1937 and my family moved to New Delhi after the 1947 partition. My grandfather was posted as Chief Justice of J&K High Court in 1935. We used to visit Srinagar and Gulmarg. We used to have shikara rides and play golf. We also had a farmhouse in Srinagar,” he reminisced.

Sawhny appealed to other producers of the industry to visit Kashmir and choose it as their favourite shooting destination.

He said he plans to release the first show of his upcoming film in Srinagar theatre.

“I hope people will visit and watch it,” Sawhny added. (ANI)

Black Money No More An Issue With India: Swiss Envoy | Lokmarg

Black Money No More An Issue With India: Swiss Envoy

Swiss ambassador to India Dr. Ralf Heckner has said black money is not an issue anymore in financial relations between Switzerland and India, as both sides have already exchanged several batches of information.

In an interview with ANI, Ralf Heckner explained that he has been the Swiss ambassador for more than two years but he heard hardly anything about black money.
“The black money issue has been dealt with by a bilateral treaty between Switzerland and India in 2018 on the automatic exchange of bank information between Switzerland and India. We had several batches of information exchange between Switzerland and India, so the black money issue isn’t the issue anymore. There is not even one cloud over bilateral relations when it comes to financial relations,” he said.

According to some reports, Indian investment in the Swiss banking system witnessed a sharp rise in 2021. Switzerland had shared information about Indian account holders in four batches since the automatic exchange of bank information agreement was signed in 2018. Traditionally, Switzerland was seen as a safe tax haven for Indian businessmen, politicians, and industrialists.

According to a release by the Federal tax administration of Switzerland, in 2021, it exchanged information on financial accounts with 101 countries. The exchange took place within the framework of the global standard on the automatic exchange of information (AEOI). Switzerland says it has committed to adopting the global standard for the international automatic exchange of information in tax matters.

The legal basis for the implementation of the AEOI in Switzerland came into force on January 1, 2017. Identification, account, and financial information are exchanged, including name, address, country of residence, and tax identification number, as well information concerning the reporting financial institution, account balance, and capital income.

The exchanged information allows the cantonal tax authorities to verify whether taxpayers have correctly declared their financial accounts abroad in their tax returns. The OECD’s Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum) reviews the implementation of the AEOI.

Swiss ambassador further said, “I see a lot of convergence now because sustainability is very dear to the honorable prime minister and the same applies to the Swiss government. Our government came up with a strategy for Switzerland’s financial center. The Swiss government wants to see a shift toward sustainability. We are not talking about USD 100 billion being invested in climate mitigation or climate adaptation, we are talking about trillions of US dollars being managed by Swiss banking funds, insurance, and banks that according to the Swiss government be invested in a sustainable manner.”

He also elaborated on the opportunities for Indian investors in the sustainable financial model.

“What does it mean for India, for example, if you are a sustainable Indian company, you might be the company that the Swiss center would like to invest in. You are an Indian fin-tech company and you have data on sustainable companies and sustainable business models. You might be the company of choice for banks insurances and pension funds in Switzerland to direct money flows to sustainable business solutions,” he said. (ANI)
