J-K Congress spokesperson resigns ahead of Bharat Jodo Yatra

Jammu and Kashmir Congress spokesperson Deepika Pushkar Nath has resigned from the party after its state unit “allowed” former BJP leader and minister Choudhary Lal Singh to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra which is scheduled to enter the union territory on January 20.

Nath resigned from the party on Tuesday. Taking to Twitter, Nath said that she is leaving the party on ideological grounds as Singh was responsible for “sabotaging” the 2018 Kathua rape case by “brazenly defending” the rapists of an eight-year-old nomadic girl.
“In view of Choudhary Lal Singh’s proposal of joining Bharat Jodo Yatra and Congress allowing the same, I am left with no other option but to resign from Congress. Lal Singh was responsible for sabotaging the Kathua rape case in 2018 by brazenly defending rapists,” she tweeted.

“Lal Singh divided the entire region of Jammu & Kashmir to protect the rapists and @bharatjodo is ideologically opposite. On ideological grounds, I cannot share the party platform with such a person,” she further tweeted mentioning Rahul Gandhi.

Notably, when the People’s Democratic Party came into collation with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh was forced by then chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to resign as forest minister.

Bharat Jodo Yatra will enter Jammu and Kashmir on January 19 where Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah Sanjay Raut, MY Tarigami, Mehbooba Mufti will join the yatra at different locations. (ANI)

Ludhiana: Anti-Sikh Riot Victims Burn Rahul's Effigy | Lokmarg

Ludhiana: Anti-Sikh Riot Victims Burn Rahul’s Effigy

On the arrival of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ludhiana, members of the 1984 Sikh Massacre Riot Victims Society, raised slogans and burnt an effigy of Rahul Gandhi at the Ghantaghar Chowk.

The protesters alleged that the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib was on the orders of Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. They also pointed out that Sikhs were massacred during the time of Rahul’s father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. They claimed that the Bharat Jodo Yatra has again cut open their wounds.
The protesters demanded that Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi should apologize for the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib and the massacre of Sikhs.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra is just a drama, they claimed.

However, in view of the apprehension of protests from the riot victims, adequate security arrangements had already been made by the police. The demonstration took place under police supervision.

The yatra will cover several parts of Punjab over eight days before reaching Jammu and Kashmir, its final stop, on January 19

The yatra, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end at Srinagar on January 30, where Rahul plans to hoist the Tricolour.

The foot march has so far covered Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and is presently in Punjab. (ANI)

Aim Of JD(U)-RJD Alliance To Defeat BJP In 2024 LS Polls: Tejashwi | Lokmarg

Aim Of JD(U)-RJD Alliance To Defeat BJP In 2024 LS Polls: Tejashwi

Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said the aim of the JD(U)-RJD alliance is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

“The aim is not to become Prime Minister but to defeat BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” Tejashwi Yadav told reporters in Patna on Monday. BJP is afraid of our alliance, Yadav added.
Tejashwi Yadav said, “Our alliance is not new. Earlier it was done by Lalu ji and Nitish ji. It has been done again for the state and good governance”.

Nitish Kumar had broken off ties with BJP in August last year and taken oath again as Bihar Chief Minister after rejoining hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal and other parties in the Mahagathbandhan.

On December 31, 2022, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the JD(U) has no problem with Rahul Gandhi’s candidature as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, adding that the decision will be taken once the Opposition parties get down to the talking table.

We have no problem with it…When all (opposition) parties sit together and talk, then we will decide on everything,” Kumar had said.

When asked about the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Opposition’s participation in it, the Chief Minister said that it is a program of the Congress party and the JD(U) will decide its further course of action.

“It is a program (Bharat Jodo Yatra) related to their (Congress) party…Later, when we talk, we will decide what needs to be done,” he had said.

The remarks of the Chief Minister came after Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need for the Opposition to have a central ideological framework.

“The opposition needs a central ideological framework that only Congress can provide but our role is also to make sure that opposition parties feel comfortable,” Rahul Gandhi said.

“If the opposition stands effectively with a vision, what I hear from the ground, it will become very difficult for BJP to win the elections. But the opposition has to coordinate properly and the opposition has to go to the people with an alternative vision,” the Congress leader had added. (ANI)

HP Cabinet To Be Expanded Today

The ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhawan in Shimla this morning, said sources.
Earlier on Saturday, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that a list of 10 people has been submitted to the party’s high command and the Himachal Pradesh Government will be implementing the Old Pension Scheme in the state soon after the first cabinet meeting.

The CM arrived in Shimla from Delhi, on Saturday evening, after meeting the party’s high command.

“The meetings were personal. The Cabinet expansion is also my prerogative and I handed over the list of ten MLAs to the high command. As soon as the approval comes through, we will roll the ball to expand the Cabinet,” the CM said, speaking to reporters.

Sukhu had further informed me that he would visit Mumbai on Sunday.

“I am going to Mumbai tomorrow and have another scheduled event in Pune. We hope to get the high command’s nod for the Cabinet expansion soon. As soon as I receive the approved list of candidates, I will effect the Cabinet expansion. We are in the government to change the system, not for power,” Sukhu said. (ANI)

BJP vs AAP: DMC Turns Battleground | Lokmarg

BJP vs AAP: DMC Turns Battleground

A huge ruckus was created on Friday at Civic Centre before the commencement of voting for the MCD’s Mayoral elections.

The ruckus was created regarding the swearing-in of nominated councillors. BJP and AAP councillors clashed with each other and raise slogans against each other ahead of the Delhi Mayor polls at Civic Centre.
Following the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) mayoral election today, Delhi will pick a new mayor, deputy mayor, and speaker of the house.

Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Shally Oberoi and BJP has fielded Rekha Gupta for the post of mayor.

On Congress’s decision to walk out during the voting, Aam Aadmi Party leader and spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “The walkout of congress during the voting is directly benefiting the BJP, especially in the Standing Committee elections.”

Aam Aadmi Party leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi both alleged that the fixup between the Congress and the BJP was already decided.

Citing the example of Congress councillor Nazia Danish from Zakir Nagar, Saurabh said, “The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena appointed Nazia Danish as a member of the Haj Committee without the consent of the Delhi government.”

Saurabh even said that through the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, the BJP is allotting posts to the Muslim councillors won by the Congress so that they help the BJP in the election of the Congress Standing Committee.

Although Saurabh Bhardwaj claims his party will be victorious in the Standing Committee including Mayor, and Deputy Mayor, the Aam Aadmi Party fears that the BJP may break into the Standing Committee with 274 votes, and 250 elected councillors will vote.

Along with this, 7 Lok Sabha MPs of Delhi, 3 Rajya Sabha MPs and 14 MLAs among the nominated people, who have been made on the consent of the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, will also take part in the voting.

Along with the post of mayor and deputy mayor, the standing committee members will also be elected.

Seven candidates are in the fray for 6 posts on the Standing Committee. Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Amil Malik, Raminder Kaur, Mohini Jeenwal and Sarika Chowdhary while BJP has Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Gajendra Daral and Pankaj Luthra as its candidates for the Standing Committee.

In the MCD elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 104 wards. (ANI)

Kamal Nath about BJP Netas

I’ve Seen Obscene CDs With BJP Netas In Them: Kamal Nath

Former Chief Minister and PCC chief Kamal Nath on Thursday weighed in on the ongoing ‘obscene CDs’ controversy, saying he has also seen the CDs and they feature BJP leaders.

Nath made the remark while speaking to the media persons in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district on Thursday.

Nath said, “I have seen the CDs. I was the chief minister at the time. I do not do this type of politics. At that time I didn’t see the need for any further investigation. I did not want the name of Madhya Pradesh to be defamed, which is why the matter was not brought to the fore. There are only BJP people on the CDs. There should be an investigation into these CDs. The truth should come out.”

Earlier, on Tuesday, veteran Congress Leader and Leader of Opposition Govind Singh said, “We have various obscene CDs of BJP ministers, MLAs, leaders and RSS volunteers. But raising allegations like this is not in our culture.”

Singh on Wednesday also invited BJP state president VD Sharma at his residence to see the ‘obscene’ CDs of BJP leaders, ministers, and MLAs. Singh said, “When Sharma comes to my residence, I will welcome him with a garland and then show him the CDs. I will not show the CDs publicly. I have many of them.”

Reacting to Singh’s sensational claim on the ‘obscene’ CDs, the BJP state president said, “Such comments do not behoove political leaders. It isn’t good to question one’s character through allegations not supported by evidence. He is an experienced leader holding a responsible party post. Such reckless remarks don’t suit him.”

“The BJP never resorts to such politics. I wish to reiterate that if he is a responsible leader, he should go public with whatever he has,” Sharma added.

Nath also targeted Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, saying, “It seems he can’t digest his food unless he does two things — criticize Kamal Nath and lie.”

On the absence of Veteran Congress leader of Vindhya region, Ajay Singh Rahul, at the press conference, Nath said, “I have spoken to Ajay Singh and will keep talking to him. There is no division or dispute in the party.” (ANI)

Govt Administration Sukhu

Govt Committed To Providing Transparent, Responsive, Accountable Administration: Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said that the state government is committed to providing a transparent, responsive, and accountable administration to the people of the state.

While addressing a huge rally ‘Jan Aabhar Rally’ organized at Zorawar Stadium in Dharamshala, CM Sukhu expressed gratitude to the people of Kangra district for their massive mandate in favour of the Congress Party in the recently held assembly elections.
Incidentally, this is the first visit of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to the district after becoming the Chief Minister of the State.

The Chief Minister said that the present State Government was here not to enjoy power, but for bringing a change in the system.

He said that after being sworn in as Chief Minister of the State, he visited the Girl Child Care Institute, Tutikandi in Shimla, and felt that a lot more is required to be done for the destitute children, women, and senior citizens.

“We have decided to set up ‘Chief Minister’s Sukhashray Sahayata Kosh’ with an outlay of Rs 101 crore so that it can meet the basic educational facilities of the children and destitute women,” he added.

He also attacked the BJP government and said that it opened 900 institutions in different parts of the state without any budgetary provisions

“This was simply done to lure the people and with an eye on assembly elections, haphazard announcements were made. The present State Government cracked a big paper scam going on since the tenure of the BJP Government in the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission, Hamirpur, which had become a den of selling question papers,” he said.

CM Sukhu said that the State Government would implement all the ten guarantees as promised in the congress manifesto during assembly elections in a phased manner,

“The Government will implement Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in its first cabinet. Besides, a decision to provide Rs. 1500 to the women in the age group of 18 to 60 years would also be taken soon,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, while addressing the audience took a jibe at BJP leaders and remarked that it seems that these leaders were finding it difficult to digest, and defeat and thus were issuing baseless statements.

“The State Government in the last about 21 days of its tenure has taken some historic decisions. Rs 101 crore ‘Chief Minister Sukhashray Sahayata Kosh’ has been established to ensure that lesser privileged children can get adequate financial assistance for higher education as per their choice,” he said.

Member of Parliament and State Congress President, Pratibha Singh thanked the people of the state for their wholehearted support in the assembly elections.

“It was due to the support and love of the people that the Congress Party was able to form the Government in the State, she said. The party organization and the State Government would work with complete unison to ensure that the pace of development gets added vigour so that Himachal can emerge as a model State in the matter of development,” she said. Yatra will cover the stretch from Loni in UP to Ghaziabad. It will take a halt at Baghpat tonight.

The UP Police has issued guidelines ahead of the Yatra entering the state. “The yatra will reach from Loni to Baghpat and the common people should not have any problem in communication,” said the Police officials.

Congress leaders Alka Lamba, Spokesperson Shama Mohamed, and MP Jothimani were seen in today’s Delhi leg of Yatra.

Alka Lamba said to ANI, “We want to ask the Delhi government and the BJP government at the center. What has been done for the security of women? One decade has passed since 2012. Still, incidents like Kanjhawala happened. The issue of women’s security is also getting prominence from the Yatra.”

The yatra has covered more than 110 days and over 3,000 km of march. Starting from the southern states, the yatra moved to Rajasthan and Delhi before the break.

BJP’s Ideology Is Self-Centered: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that the BJP’s ideology is to be “self-centered” while her party Trinamool Congress abides by the Constitution.

Addressing a convention of Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “CPI (M) and BJP belong to the same team…BJP’s ideology is to be self-centered…Our compulsion is to obey the Constitution. But today history, geography, and politics are being forgotten; education and culture are being changed,”
The TMC supremo spoke on Trinamool Congress’ vision as it completed 25 years on January 1, and said “the party aims at a united India with a strengthened federal structure”.

On Sunday, she took to Twitter on the occasion of the 25th foundation day of the Trinamool Congress and congratulated everyone for believing in the power of Maa, Maati, and Manush (mother, soil, and people).

She also recalled the party’s struggle through the years and the role played by the party workers in empowering people, fighting injustice, and inspiring hope among the masses.

“This day, 25 years ago, TMC came into existence. I recall our struggles through the years & the role we have played in empowering people, fighting injustice, and inspiring hope. I heartily congratulate everyone for believing in the power of MAA, MAATI, MANUSH,” tweeted Mamata.

Trinamool Congress was created over Mamata’s difference from the Congress. She left Congress and formed TMC on January 1, 1998. TMC which emerged as a regional party was elevated to a national Party in 2016.

The party ended the 34-year left regime in West Bengal in 2011 and has been in power since then, winning three consecutive assembly elections.
