According to Down Detector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, thousands of users visited the micro-blogging website to discuss their experiences after the global outage hit Twitter.

When attempting to see or post a tweet, Twitteratis complained that they received the “Cannot retrieve tweets” error message.

The stated outage, however, was not experienced by many users worldwide.

Gita Press for Unmatched Contribution

Shah Praises Gita Press For Unmatched Contribution

Amid a war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government and opposition parties over Gandhi Peace Prize selection, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that India’s glorious ancient Sanatan culture and scriptures can be read easily today only because of “unmatched contribution” from Gita Press.

Taking to Twitter, Shah said that conferring Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 on Gita Press is an honour for the work being done by it.
“If India’s glorious ancient Sanatan culture and scriptures can be read easily today, it is due to Gita Press’s unmatched contribution. Conferring Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 on Gita Press is an honour of the work being done by it,” Shah said in a tweet.

The Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021 will be conferred on Gita Press of Gorakhpur, in recognition of its “outstanding contribution towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods, the Ministry of Culture said on Sunday.

Gandhi Peace Prize 2021, recognizes the important and unparalleled contribution of Gita Press, in contributing to the collective upliftment of humanity, which personifies Gandhian living in the true sense.

Established in 1923, Gita Press is one of the world’s largest publishers, having published 41.7 crore books in 14 languages, including 16.21 crore Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.

However, the Congress hit out at the Centre over its decision taken by the jury headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh termed the decision a “travesty” and is like “awarding Savarkar and Godse”.

“The Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021 has been conferred on the Gita Press at Gorakhpur which is celebrating its centenary this year. There is a very fine biography from 2015 of this organisation by Akshaya Mukul in which he unearths the stormy relations it had with the Mahatma and the running battles it carried on with him on his political, religious & social agenda. The decision is really a travesty and is like awarding Savarkar and Godse,” he said in a tweet.

The statement issued by the Ministry of Culture said that the jury headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi unanimously decided to select Geeta Press, Gorakhpur for the Gandhi Peace Prize.

This award is given every year to those who follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. It was started by the Government of India in 1995.

The recipients of the Gandhi Peace Prize get Rs 1 crore, a citation, a plaque, and an exquisite traditional handicraft, handloom item.

Speaking on the same, BJP leader Jitendra Singh said that the Gita Press is an affordable literature producer and is associated with the ethos of the country.

“Gita Press is associated with the culture of India, associated with Hindu beliefs, producer of affordable literature and those who used to say that the Muslim League was secular are accusing it…,” Singh said. (ANI)

Amitabh On Twitter's Blue Tick

Ab To Paisa Bhi Bhar Diye Hum: Amitabh On Twitter’s Blue Tick

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan never fails to entertain whether it is on-screen performance or on his social media posts. On Friday the ‘Sholay’ actor made a request for the restoration of the Twitter blue tick with a funny and somewhat sarcastic comment.

Bachchan’s tweet, made in a dialect of eastern Uttar Pradesh, reflected his characteristic humour.
“T 4623 – Hey Twitter brother! Are you listening? Now I even paid…so put back the blue lotus (tick) in front of my name, so that people know that it is Amitabh Bachchan only. I have already made request with folded hands, now should I fall at your feet?” Bachchan said.

Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, B-town celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, politicians CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are among those who have for the present lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts.

Twitter has started following a pay model and many of high-profile users are losing verified blue ticks.

Earlier it was announced that the microblogging site will remove the verified check-mark status of accounts that Twitter had verified before Elon Musk’s takeover unless they have subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan, Variety reported.

The blue tick served as a way of protecting well-known individuals from impersonation and tackling false information.

“On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue,” Twitter had said in a post in March.

Twitter first introduced the blue check mark system in 2009 to help users identify that celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organizations and other accounts “of public interest” were genuine and not impostors or parody accounts. The company didn’t previously charge for verification.

Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of the company’s takeover last year. (ANI)

WHO Sudan

WHO Chief: Sudan Heartbreaking, Peace Only Solution

World Health Organisation (WHO) condemned the loss of lives in Sudan on Thursday as clashes continue to deepen between the army and the paramilitaries in the country.

In a statement, the director-general of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said the reports of forces occupying health facilities are deeply concerning.
The WHO Chief posted his statement on Sudan’s situation on his Twitter handle and condemned the loss of lives, attacks on civilians and health care.

As of now, more than 300 people have lost their lives due to rage in clashes in Sudan and nearly 3000 are injured.

“The lack of safe access, to electricity, food, water, personnel and the diminishing medical supplies are making it nearly impossible for many health facilities to function at the exact time when there are thousands injured in need of urgent care,” the WHO Chief said further, as he reiterated on his appeal for peace.

“I continue to urge all sides to respect the truce so that: -those trapped by the fighting can seek refuge -civilians can access food, water, and medicine -patients can seek the health care that they need. Peace is the only solution,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres condemned the continuing clashes between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese armed forces.

“The Secretary-General calls on the leaders of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces to immediately cease hostilities, restore calm and initiate a dialogue to resolve the current crisis. Any further escalation in the fighting will have a devastating impact on civilians and further aggravate the already precarious humanitarian situation in the country,” the spokesperson for the Secretary-General said.

The United Kingdom on Wednesday also called for an immediate end to the fighting and a lasting ceasefire in Sudan as the tensions continue to rise in the region, every passing day.

Taking to Twitter, the UK foreign secretary, James Cleverly informed that some discussions took place with the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and UAE on how the conflict can be resolved collectively.

“The bloodshed in Sudan cannot continue. The UK calls for an immediate end to the fighting and a lasting ceasefire. Today I discussed with the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and UAE how we can collectively work to resolve the conflict,” the UK Foreign Secretary tweeted.

The conflict between Sudan’s military leader and his deputy on the ruling council erupted four days ago, derailing a plan for a transition to a civilian democracy that had received international support, four years after the overthrow of the previous government by widespread protests and two years after a military coup, as per a report published in Al Jazeera.

A humanitarian crisis, as stated by the UN, has been brought on by the conflict, including the almost complete collapse of the health system. The Global Food Programme of the organization halted operations when three of its staffers were killed.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said it was nearly impossible to provide humanitarian services around the capital. (ANI)

New York Times Twitter Verification Badge

New York Times Loses Twitter Verification Badge

In less than a week after Elon Musk declared Twitter’s new policy for keeping verification badges, US’s leading media house “The New York Times” lost its verification badge on Twitter on Sunday.

Twitter announced that it will be doing away with the blue ticks for legacy verified accounts starting April 1.
The microblogging site will remove the verified check-mark status of accounts that Twitter had verified as notable before Elon Musk’s takeover unless they have subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan, Variety reported.

The only individual Twitter users, who will have verified blue checkmarks, are those paying for Twitter Blue, which in the US costs USD 8/month via the web and USD 11/month through the in-app payment on iOS and Android.

Earlier Thursday, the company announced that Twitter Blue was now available worldwide.

“On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue,” Twitter posted from its official handle.

Twitter, however, has not revealed how it will deal with the accounts of people who have “notable” mentioned on it.

For companies and brands, Twitter recently introduced a gold check mark and has shifted government accounts to a grey check mark. As previously indicated, a subscription to the social network’s new Twitter Verified Organizations program in the US — which will be the only way to keep a gold or grey check-mark badge — will cost USD 1,000/month (plus tax) and USD 50/month (plus tax) for each additional affiliate subaccount.

Twitter first introduced verified accounts in 2009 to help users identify that celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organisations, and other accounts “of public interest” were genuine, not impostors or parody accounts. The company didn’t previously charge for verification.

Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of the company’s takeover.

The members of the White House will have to spend on their own in order to keep the blue verification checkmarks on Twitter, the White House informed its staffers on Friday via an email saying that won’t be subscribing to Twitter Blue, New York Post reported.

After Elon Musk took control of Twitter as the CEO, a change was announced regarding the blue checkmarks. According to the new policy, Twitter plans to discontinue its long-running verified programme, removing the blue checkmarks from accounts that don’t pay the USD 8 monthly subscription fee.

The White House will join individuals like NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who won the Super Bowl, and NBA superstar Lebron James in refusing to continue paying the monthly price to be verified, New York Post reported.

After taking over the microblogging site, Musk announced the ability for users to purchase a blue tick verified through Twitter Blue.

Despite getting internal warnings from Twitter’s own trust and safety staff, Musk’s plan resulted in the impersonation of high-profile accounts, including Twitter’s advertisers, The Verge reported.

After Musk took over Twitter, the microblogging site has been adding and removing separate, grey checkmarks on high-profile accounts without explaining the reason.

“It is our understanding that Twitter Blue does not provide person-level verification as a service,” White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty informed staffers via email, according to New York Post.

“Thus, a blue check mark will now simply serve as a verification that the account is a paid user. Staff may purchase Twitter Blue on their personal social media accounts using personal funds,” Flaherty wrote in the email. (ANI)

Georgia’s Forsyth County Passes Resolution Condemning Hinduphobia

In a historic move, US Georgia Assembly has passed the first-ever resolution condemning Hinduphobia making it the first-ever US State to do so.

The legislation, notably, recognizes the contributions of Indian Americans and Hindu Americans in Georgia and calls out the rise of Hinduphobia around the country, the official Twitter handle of CoHNA (Coalition of Hindus of North America) said.

The Coalition of Hindus of North America is a grassroots advocacy and civil rights organization representing the Hindu community of North America.

The resolution passed by the Georgia legislature citing ‘Understanding Hinduphobia

Initiative’ described Hinduphobia as “a set of antagonistic, destructive, and derogatory attitudes and behaviours towards Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) and Hindus that may manifest as prejudice, fear, or hatred.”

“In a historic move, Georgia legislature passes the first-ever County Resolution condemning #Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu bigotry! The resolution recognized the contributions of Indian Americans and Hindu Americans in Georgia andcalled out the rising #Hinduphobia around the country. This trend has been documented by the @HinduphobiaConf and the research by

@RutgersU and @ncri_io,” the official Twitter handle of CoHNA tweeted.

The resolution further underlined that the American Hindu community has been a major contributor to diverse sectors such as medicine, science and engineering, information technology, hospitality, finance, academia, manufacturing, energy, retail trade, and so much more in the US.

“Hindu contributions of Yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, food, music, arts, and more have enriched the cultural fabric and have been widely adopted in American society and enriched the lives of millions,” it said.

The legislative delegation of Forsyth County in the suburbs of Atlanta, home to one of the largest Hindu American and Indian American diaspora communities, made an effort to recognize #Hinduphobia and call for an end to anti-Hindu hate, the CoHNA wrote on Twitter.

Reps Lauren McDonald and Todd Jones from Forsyth County, a suburb of Atlanta that is home to one of Georgia’s largest Hindu and Indian-American diaspora groups, presented the resolution.

Todd Jones is a State House Representative from District 25 (South Forsyth and North Fulton Counties), whereas Lauren McDonald is a Georgia representative from District 26.

Thanking the two US Reps, the CoHNA tweeted, “We thank@McDonaldGA26 and @turntotodd for their leadership in directing this Resolution. Finland membership

Finland’s M’ship Will Make Alliance Stronger: NATO Gen Secy

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), General Secretary on Friday said that Finland’s inclusion will strengthen the intergovernmental military alliance and added that the body hopes to welcome Sweden as full member soon.

In a video shared by the official Twitter account of NATO Spokesperson, Oana Lungescu, the NATO General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, is heard welcoming and congratulating Finland.
Stoltenberg said, “I welcome the vote by the Turkish Grand National Assembly to ratify Finland’s membership in NATO. All 30 NATO allies have now ratified the accession protocol.”

“And I have just spoken with President Sauli Niinisto to congratulate him on this historic occasion,” Stoltenberg said.

“Finland will formally join our alliance in the coming days. The membership will make Finland safer and NATO stronger. Finland has highly capable forces, advanced capabilities and strong democratic institutions. So Finland will bring a lot to our alliance,” NATO General Secretary said.

He said, “All allies made a historic decision last year to invite Finland and Sweden to join our alliance. Since then, we have seen the fastest ratification process in NATO’s modern history. All allies agree that a rapid conclusion of the ratification process for Sweden will be in everyone’s interest. I look forward to also welcoming Sweden as a full member of the NATO family as soon as possible.”

Turkish Parliament on March 30 voted all the way in favour of Finland’s application to join NATO, clearing the last hurdle in the accession process, while also continuing to block Sweden from joining the military alliance.

As per a CNN report, Ankara’s vote fulfils Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s “promise” to allow Finland to become part of the military alliance.

Turkey was the last NATO member to approve Finland’s accession. Following the vote, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said his country is “ready to join NATO.” He further said, “All 30 NATO members have now ratified Finland’s membership. I want to thank every one of them for their trust and support,” according to a CNN report.

Niinisto stressed that “Finland will be a strong and capable ally, committed to the security of the Alliance.” As per the news report, he said, “We look forward to welcoming Sweden to join us as soon as possible.”

NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg welcomed the decision of Turkey. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Stoltenberg stated, “I welcome the vote of the Grand National Assembly of #Turkiye to complete the ratification of #Finland’s accession. This will make the whole #NATO family stronger & safer.”

Finland and Sweden had in 2022 submitted applications to join NATO. A majority of NATO members, except for Turkey and Hungary had welcomed the applications by the two Nordic countries.

Turkish President Erdogan had accused Finland and Sweden of housing Kurdish “terrorist organizations.” Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Finland and Sweden were disseminating “outright lies” about his country’s rule of law record, as per the CNN report.

Later, the two nations softened their stance on Finland’s accession. However, Hungary and Turkey continue to remain opposed to Sweden becoming part of NATO.

On Monday, the Hungarian Parliament voted 182 to six in favour of Finland’s application. On Wednesday, Hungarian government spokesperson Zoltan Kovacs said there was “an ample amount of grievances that need to be addressed” before Sweden’s bid to join NATO would be approved by Hungary. (ANI)

‘Just Bowl To Get Him Out’: Users Tweet For KL Rahul

‘Just Bowl To Get Him Out’: Users Tweet For KL Rahul

India opener KL Rahul’s horrid run in international cricket continues as the batter failed to fire with his willow once again during the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at Delhi on Sunday.

Chasing a low-pressure target of 115 runs, fans anticipated opener KL and Rohit Sharma to chase it down without any hassle given that there are two days still left in the match. But KL was the first wicket to fall. Nathan Lyon trapped him for just one run, leaving India at 6/1 in 1.1 overs.
Following his dismissal, cricket fans took to Twitter to express their frustration with KL’s dismal run of form through one-liners, memes, jokes etc.

A Twitter user named Rahul Sharma posted on Twitter in a mocking tone, “Scored the crucial 1 run which Australia lead by in the 1st innings. Well played, KL Rahul.”

Another tweet from user named Drink Cricket posted a meme describing different ways of dismissing batters like Steve Smith, Virat Kohli and Joe Root by pointing out their weaknesses. For KL Rahul, the meme suggested that merely bowling to him would lead to his dismissal.

A user named Kuptaan also tweeted, “If India is 200/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 100/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 50/1, KL Rahul is out If India is 0/1, KL Rahul is out If India is no loss then KL Rahul is not in the playing xi.”

Another Twitter user brought up one of KL’s old tweets playing pool captioned “pretending I know how to play” and tweeted, “KL Rahul had already given us a hint. Only if we knew what he was talking about.”

A Twitter user named Rupen also expressed his frustration with KL’s poor form with a wrestling reference. He posted a video from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s 2009 Royal Rumble event, which involves a battle royal requiring wrestlers to eliminate their opponents by throwing them over the top rope. He posted a video of wrestler Santino Marella, who was eliminated by Kane in just one second, which is a record for the shortest time in the Royal Rumble match.

Another Twitter user named Sachya posted a hilarious video describing “KL Rahul’s contribution in team for last 2 years”

Notably, The opener did not have a very good 2022. After missing nearly half a year worth of action, KL blew hot and cold ever since Asia Cup 2022. He did score some half-centuries but drew criticism from fans and some cricketers for his lack of attacking intent and his inability to fire during the most important matches for his team.

KL played four Tests last year in which he scored 137 runs at an average of 17.12, with one fifty. He had the best score of 50 in Tests.

In 10 ODIs last year, he scored 251 runs at an average of 27.88, with two half-centuries and the best score of 73.

In 16 T20Is in 2022, he scored 434 runs at an average of 28.93 and six half-centuries, with a best score of 62.

Overall in 30 matches last year, KL scored 822 runs at an average of 25.68, with nine half-centuries.

This year, KL has scored only 38 runs in his three Test innings. Overall, KL has scored 148 runs in five international matches across six innings at an average of 29.60 with one half-century and the best score of 64*.

Coming to the match, India won the second Test against Australia by six wickets and took a series lead of 2-0. (ANI)
