‘We Have Full Faith In CBI’: Twisha Sharma’s Advocate

Advocate Anurag Shrivastava, representing the family of Twisha Sharma, on Friday stated that the defence did not oppose the CBI’s remand request because their anticipatory bail had been previously rejected due to the serious nature of the case.

A district court in Bhopal on Friday sent former district judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh to five-day CBI custody till June 2 in connection with the death case of Twisha Sharma.

Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, advocate Shrivastava said, “They did not oppose any of these points, because… their anticipatory bail had been rejected precisely on the grounds that the nature of the case was such that bail could not be granted. Detailed arguments were presented before the High Court asserting that Giribala’s custody was essential for the investigation.”

He further said, “Having considered all these factors, the order for anticipatory bail was set aside; the accused had no grounds to challenge the necessity of a CBI investigation. We have full faith in the CBI.”

Special Judge Shobhana Bhalave allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take both accused into custody for further interrogation as part of its ongoing probe.

On Friday, the CBI sought a five-day remand for Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, and also requested a five-day extension of the remand for the accused Samarth Singh. Giribala Singh was produced before the court in connection with the alleged dowry death case of Twisha Sharma.

During the proceedings, Giribala’s counsel stated that they had no objection to the CBI’s request for remand. The central agency will now question both Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh in its custody.

Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha’s family, said, “An FIR was registered under dowry death naming the accused – Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, the husband and mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma. Samarth Singh was arrested and was on police remand to date. After a new FIR was registered by the CBI, Giribala Singh was also arrested, and 5-days of remand were requested on the basis that evidence can be tampered with, witnesses can be threatened, possibility of absconding…”

He further added, “The CBI needs to cover the entire investigation from the beginning in the matter of the dowry death case… The magistrate has granted a 5-day remand… The advocate of the accused did not present any objection on the remand, and now the CBI will present both the accused before the court on 2nd June, 2026.”

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida in Uttar Pradesh got married to Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death on May 12, her family alleged that she was harassed for dowry by her husband and in-laws. The case involves serious allegations under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. (ANI)
