DCW Issues Summon To Top Cop After Identity Of Minor Wrestler Revealed

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday issued a summon to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi in a case pertaining to the wrestlers-WFI case where an identity of a minor wrestler who has accused Brij Bhushan of harassing her was revealed on social media.

In the letter to DCP, New Delhi, DCP Chairperson Maliwal wrote, “Now, a video is being circulated on social media wherein a person claiming to be the uncle of the minor survivor has revealed the identity of the survivor which is a criminal offence as per the POCSO Act.”
She further stated that the accused Brij Bhushan is highly influential and has not been arrested to date.

“The accused in the matter is highly influential and has not been arrested to date. The Hon’ble Supreme Court, considering the sensitivity of the case, and the direct threat to the survivors, especially the minor one, had directed the police to provide them security,” summon read.

The summon further pointed out that in such a scenario, the act of revealing the minor survivor’s identity has to be dealt with seriously.

In this regard, DCW chief Swati Maliwal has issued a summon to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of New Delhi District seeking registration of an FIR in the matter. The Commission has asked Delhi Police to provide a copy of the FIR along with details of the accused arrested in the matter.

The Commission has also asked Delhi Police to inform the reasons for not arresting the main accused Brij Bhushan Singh to date. Further, the Commission has asked Delhi Police to provide a copy of the enquiry report investigating whether the accused Brij Bhushan Singh is in any way linked to the act of revealing the identity of a minor survivor.

“It’s been four months and they want me to be hanged. The government is not hanging me that’s why they gathered at Haridwar on Tuesday and threatened to immerse their medals in the Ganga. This will not bring the sentence that they want for me, it is all emotional drama,” he said.

Several ace grapplers including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have been protesting against the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh accusing him of sexual harassment and demanding his arrest. Biren Urges People To Maintain Law And Order

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday appealed to the people of the state not to cause “roadblocks” and “hindrances” for the movement of relief material and security personnel.

for meeting security threats from illegal armed groups in conflict areas in foothills and interior locations of the State,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
“At a huge number of locations, the public is violating curfew restrictions and blocking roads and causing immense obstacles to the free movement of relief material for inmates in relief camps and also to transportation and movement of security personnel for meeting security threats from illegal armed groups in conflict areas in foothills and interior locations of the State,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

“Such roadblocks are increasing the hardship of our already traumatized people in relief camps, including pregnant women and young children by halting the movement of health personnel, medicine, food, milk and water meant for them,” the statement added.

Such roadblocks are also making it extremely difficult for security and police personnel to respond to attacks by armed groups on time.

“In order to save lives and property of innocent civilians, and to assuage the hardship faced in relief camps, I appeal to the people of Manipur not to cause roadblocks and hindrances on free movement of security personnel and relief material,” N Biren Singh further remarked.

“I further appeal to all persons concerned to return and surrender the arms and ammunition which have been snatched from armed police battalions, police stations, etc. in valley and hill districts to the nearest police station / MR / IRB, etc. at the earliest. Legal action as per the Arms Act 1959 and Rules will be taken in case any person is found to be in unauthorized and illegal possession of arms and ammunition during combing operations by security personnel, or otherwise,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday took stock of the security situation with senior officials in Manipur’s Moreh.

In a tweet, Amit Shah said, “Held a meeting with the delegations of Kuki and other communities at Moreh. They expressed strong support for the government’s initiatives to restore normalcy in Manipur.”

“Took stock of the security situation with senior officials in Moreh (Manipur),” Shah said in another tweet.

Five persons, including a Manipur Police Officer, were killed, a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA’s house was vandalised and over 1,000 arms and ammunition were reportedly looted by a mob from armouries of Manipur Rifles and IRB on Sunday while combined Central and state security forces gunned down more than 30 suspected Kuki mikitants in the state.

There are also reports of mob looting all arms and ammunition from the armouries of 7 Manipur Rifles at Khabeisoi, 2nd Manipur Rifles at Deulahane and 3rd India Reserve Battalion at Thoubal.

As per security forces, fierce encounters are on between suspected Kuki militants and security personnel at the Kadangband and nearby Singda areas in the Imphal West district. Apart from attacking civilians in several foothills of Manipur, the militants also torched over 200 houses in three villages near Sugnu in the Kakching district late Saturday night. (ANI)

Himachal Continues To Get Widespread Rain

Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla continued to get rain on Wednesday. Shimla was among the places in Himachal Pradesh where IMD declared an Orange alert on Wednesday. The state has been getting rain since last week.

The amount of rain that has been received in the previous week was the highest in the month of May for the state. According to the Meteorological Department, from May 24 to 31, 342% more rainfall than normal has been recorded in the state.
According to IMD in the month of May, there has been 84% more rainfall than normal in the state. As per IMD data before 2023, there was 315% more rainfall than normal rainfall in 2015. So this year it has been the highest ever rain recorded in the month of May.

A huge drop in temperature has also been registered in Himachal Pradesh, the maximum temperature is 7 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature has registered a drop of 4 degrees below normal.

Most of the people in Shimla are seen with sweaters and jackets only. The weather is going to remain bad in the state till June 4. In such a situation, tourists have been instructed to keep warm clothes with them if they want to visit Shimla.

“It is raining and it is so cold. These rains are not good. Though there was no snow, it is very cold. Even in our villages, the cold and hailstorm has destroyed the crop there. We used to wear a single shirt in this month. Now we have to wear sweaters and jackets,” said Pawan Kumar, a local resident.

Significantly, due to the constantly changing weather in Himachal Pradesh, a considerable drop in temperature has been registered. The biggest reason for this is also that there is snowfall in the high mountain areas of Himachal. Tourists are benefiting the most due to the low temperature. Presently the temperature in the plains is running beyond 40 degrees, but in Himachal Pradesh, the minimum temperature in most of the areas in Himachal Pradesh is running below 20 degrees.

“The weather is very bad, it is very cold here. It is said that the weather will remain cold for the next two or three days. This year there was less snowfall. It is creating trouble for the people.,” said Pawan Kumar.

The head of the Meteorological Department of Himachal Pradesh, Surendra Paul said that all the old records were broken only after a lot of Western Disturbance became active in the month of May. Even today, an alert has been issued for heavy rain and strong winds in most areas of Himachal Pradesh. Due to the rains in the last week of May, maximum natural resources have been charged in Himachal Pradesh, as well as there is a lot of moisture which will be beneficial for the crops. The arrival of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh is in the month of June, but due to heavy rains in the pre-monsoon itself, there is a possibility that this time there will be less cloud cover in the monsoon.

“There has been widespread rainfall in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours and in Sirmaur there has been the highest rain at 60MM. As far as overall rainfall records in the month of May are concerned it has been the highest ever rainfall. We have data since 2004 and in 2015 and 2023 are high this year it is the highest and the remaining years have very less. We are also trying to find out if some old ones are available but there is no possibility of this much high as there has been 84% high rain from the normal in the month of May. The temperatures have also dropped by 7 degree Celsius and these temperatures since April have been below normal. There has been snowfall in Pangi and in Extreme heights of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur district,” said Surender Paul, Head of IMD Himachal.

He said that the monsoon rains will be low from the normal in the state. “The rain will continue in the region in May as well, the monsoon rains are expected to be less this year as per the present conditions. There is an expected 92% precipitation this year during the monsoon. ,” said Paul. (ANI)
