Passenger Blames Air India After Kitten Goes Missing At Delhi Airport

A female passenger travelling from the national capital to Manipur’s Imphal on an Air India’s flight alleged that she lost her pet cat at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport due to the “negligence” of the airline staff, and asked the members to take responsibility for it.

A Twitter user shared about the lost kitten on the microblogging site, claiming that the pet was lost due to Air India’s negligence.
“My friend’s pet is missing due to negligence by @airindiain staff. This is a heart-wrenching tragedy and your negligence is inexcusable. You must take responsibility for your actions and make things right immediately. @RNTata2000,” Sony Somar, a friend of the passenger tweeted.

The female passenger, identified as Jangneichong Karong, in a complaint to authorities said that she took the flight Al 889 flight from Delhi to Imphal at 9.55 am on April 24.

“Date: 24/4/2023, I took the Al 889 flight from Delhi to Imphal at 9.55 am. As was travelling with 2 or my kittens (pet baby cats), I arrived at the airport at around 6.30 am. Ready to do everything to take my 2 kittens with me to my hometown. It was at the check-in that the night staff informed me that had 2 options either to reschedule or move to business class to take them with me in the cabin. Unfortunately, as the flight reschedule option was not available, I agreed to move to business class as was not comfortable to let my kittens travel through cargo but they said I’ll have to wait till the morning staff arrives for any procedures. This led to me waiting till 7.30 am for the staff to arrive which was futile again because they informed me that business class is not possible and the only option is cargo. With heaviness in my heart, knowing that my kittens will at least have each other I agreed to the same and went ahead with procedures,” the passenger alleged in her complaint.

“I ensured to secure the cage properly (it’s a sturdy cage which you may check to clarify your doubts). There is no way that in any circumstance, it will open on its own or be kicked open by tiny kittens. After being given a proper go-ahead and assurance that my kittens are safe, I went ahead with security. But to my utter shock, it was when reached the gate with little time to board that I overheard the staff murmuring about pets on hold. With absolute fear, I went ahead to enquire and it broke my heart to hear that it was my pet on hold, the reason which they didn’t tell me. After another 30 minutes of waiting, the manager said that 1 of my kitten ran out of the cage that was very well secured. With only 7 minutes to boarding, I was almost forced to give my consent to fly with just 1 kitten,” the complaint read.

Karong demanded action against the airline if it fails to find her pet. “Please help me get my pet back or I’ll have to take necessary action against your airline,” Karong said in her complaint.

The passenger further said that she is in shock that one of her two kittens is still missing and untraceable, and she is still showing faith in Air India.

“This was heartbreaking and I’m still in complete mental shock that one of my kittens went missing. I’m sure your staff members were not careful with them because the latch felt loose when received it upon arrival. Really not sure who played with it resulting in me losing one of my pets,” the complaint read.

She said that the airline charged the full amount for the two kittens as cargo during the trip. “Passenger who was ready to pay and in fact, paid all the required amount to have my 2 kittens fly with me. On top of that because of your staff members in capabilities. I had to go through the physical and mental hassles. Even had one of my friends travel to the airport to pick them up, if I wasn’t allowed to travel with them. This is really not done,” the passenger complained.

Air India is silent on the media question of the missing cat incident.

The airline replied to her friend’s tweet about the incident and said, “Dear Ms Karongwe can understand your disappointment. Please be rest assured, we’ve already shared your details with the team to look into your concern and resolve it ASAP. We need some time to get back to you with an update.”

Air India passenger has no faith in Air India and demands CCTV footage to find one of her kittens, it’s been more than five days, and her kitten ‘Phoenix’ is still missing…

“This is #missingkitten PHOENIX and SKKY. They are siblings. Didn’t want to separate them, so the plan was to give them a bigger area to run and play around. Unfortunately, Phoenix is still #missing in the airport. Give permission to look for her. Demand CCTV footage of the incident,” Karong tweeted. (ANI)

Azam Khan

Azam Fears Atiq-Like Shootout

Feared of being shot dead in a similar manner to gangster-turned politician Atiq Ahmed, Samajwadi Party senior leader Azam Khan, while campaigning in Rampur for civic polls, asked people whether they want him and his family to be killed in a similar fashion.

“What do you want from me and my children? Do you want someone to come and shoot us in head? That’s all that is left…, save Nizam-e-Hind, save the law, you don’t have to offer anything, you just have to encourage yourself. Sit wherever you get stopped and try to move forward instead of stepping back,” he said.
Azam Khan who was suffering from a prolonged illness took to the stage after long time to campaign for upcoming civic polls in UP.

“We will cast our vote, it’s our birthright but that too is being snatched from us twice, if it gets snatched thrice then you won’t even to the right to breathe,” he said while referring to disqualification of himself from the House after a court sentenced him to three years in jail in a hate speech case. The case was registered against Khan for levelling serious allegations against administrative officials posted in Rampur, PM and UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath in 2019 during election rally.

Azam Khan campaigned for Samajwadi Party candidate Fatima Zabi, contesting for the presidential post of Rampur municipality. Azam Khan who is well-known for his sarcastic statements attacked BJP led government in both UP and centre and ended up calling his opponents “political eunuchs”.

“Those who are saying today that the municipality is on contract, they had put the whole country on contract, Red Fort has been sold, airports have been sold, ports have been sold, railways have been sold, what is left? Only the army is left. It’s with Hukumat-e-Hind, it should remain. Our army and the government’s army are two different things. Our army is yours and we have seen this army fighting at every corner and have won,” said Azam Khan.

“‘Vazir-e-Azam’ (Prime Minister) of India has mentioned your Rampur assembly seat in a Hindustan of 150 crore people, this is your status. There is so much fear of you, and this fear is not of any caste, nor of my being a minister, nor of my being an MP or MLA, but it’s the fear of our unity and the trust we share. Whatever happened, whether I remain a member of the Legislative Assembly or not, a person who’s in his young age, his legislature was abolished twice, mine and Abdullah’s (his son) right to vote was were abolished,” he said further.

Azam Khan was elected MLA from the Rampur Sadar constituency. The state Assembly Secretariat, earlier in October, announced Khan’s disqualification from the House after a court sentenced him to three years in jail in a hate speech case. The case was registered against Khan in April 2019 for serious levelling allegations against administrative officials posted in Rampur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during an election meeting.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Khan was booked for making inflammatory speeches while addressing a public meeting in Khatanagaria village of the Milak Kotwali area. Earlier Allahabad High Court in May 2022 had granted interim bail to Azam Khan in a matter which was related to a wrongful possession of Waqf board property land. (ANI)

C 17 FROM JEDDAH TO DELHI

C-17 Flight Carrying 392 Passengers Reaches Delhi From Jeddah

Another flight carrying 392 passengers evacuated from battle-torn Sudan landed today in Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said.

Taking to his Twitter handle, the EAM wrote, “#OperationKaveri update. Another C-17 flight carrying 392 passengers reaches New Delhi.”
The Indian Air Force C17 Globemaster took off from Jeddah airport earlier today(local time) under MoS Muraleedharan, who saw them off at Jeddah.

“Glad to see happy and energetic faces of 392 of our nationals returning to Delhi from Jeddah on IAF C17 Globemaster after evacuation from Sudan. Saw them off at the aircraft. They will be with their beloved ones in India soon,” the MoS tweeted.

Meanwhile, another batch of 362 Indian evacuees from Sudan took a flight for Bengaluru from Jeddah on Friday (today), in the presence of Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan under ongoing Operation Kaveri.

“Bon voyage! Delighted to see off 362 Indians evacuated from Sudan on a flight bound for Bengaluru from Jeddah. Good number of these are from Hakki Pikki tribe,” tweeted Muraleedharan.

Updating about the same, Jaishankar tweeted today, “India welcomes back 362 Indians as another #OperationKaveri flight touches down in Bengaluru.”

Earlier, the tenth batch of 326 Indian evacuees from Sudan reached Jeddah by INS Tarkash.

IAF C-130J flight evacuated the 10th batch of 135 Indian passengers from Port Sudan to Jeddah after the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to extend their ceasefire amid ongoing violence in the capital Khartoum and the western Darfur region.

“#OperationKaveri progresses further. 10th batch of evacuees with 135 passengers onboard IAF C-130J flight departs Port Sudan for Jeddah,” tweeted the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi.

This comes after the army said it would extend the ceasefire “for an additional 72 hours” following mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United States in the final hours of the repeatedly broken three-day truce, due to end at midnight (22:00 GMT) on Thursday.

The RSF also said it approved the extended truce, adding that the proposal came from two diplomatic groupings: the US, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

On Thursday, warplanes patrolled over the capital’s northern suburbs as fighters on the ground exchanged artillery and heavy machine-gun fire.

The previous ceasefire has not stopped the fighting but created enough of a lull for tens of thousands of Sudanese, as well as, foreign nationals to leave for safer areas. (ANI)

nuh notices to Uttar Pradesh Haryana and Delhi governments

SC Directs States, UTs To Take Suo Moto Action Against Hate Speech Irrespective Of Religion

The Supreme Court on Friday directed all states and union territories to ensure that as and when any hate speech is made, they shall take suo moto action for registration of FIR even without any complaints.

A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna made it clear that such action shall be taken irrespective of the religion of the persons who made the speech, so that the secular character of Bharat as envisaged by the Preamble is preserved.
The bench said that any hesitation to take action on hate speech would be viewed as contempt of court.

“Respondents shall ensure that immediately, as and when any speech or any action takes place which attracts offences such as Section 153A, 153B, 295A and 506 of IPC etc, without any complaint being filed, suo motu action be taken to register cases and proceed against the offenders in accordance with law,” the bench stated in its order.

It further added, “We further make it clear that such action be taken irrespective of the religion of the maker of the speech, so that the secular character of Bharat as envisaged by the Preamble is preserved.”

The apex court was hearing a batch of pleas seeking direction to curb hate speeches.

It has now posted the cases for hearing on May 12.

The bench now extended its October 21, 2022 order, which was applicable to the Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh governments, to all the States and Union Territories.

During the hearing, the bench made it clear that in its previous order it did not direct that action should be taken against any particular community but action should be taken irrespective of the religion.

As one of the petitioners said that hate speech is a pan-India issue, Justice Joseph said, “When you say pan-India issues, I don’t know if you have hate speech problem in North-East, at least not that I know. So we don’t know if it is pan-India or it is in some areas for special reasons. We only had public good in mind when we passed the order for suo motu action against hate speech. That it should not go out of hand.”

The bench opined that hate speech is an offence “affecting the fabric of the nation”.

As counsels pointed out instances of hate speech in West Bengal and Bihar, Justice Joseph said, “We want to say something. Both of us (judges in the bench) are apolitical. We don’t care about party A or party B. We are only on Constitution.”

“Don’t bring politics. If attempt is to bring in politics, we won’t be a party to this… we have said, irrespective of religion, action should be taken,” the bench added. (ANI)

NADA Suspends Bajrang

I Have Full Faith In Judiciary: WFI Chief Brij Bhushan

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Friday that he has full faith in the judiciary amid the sexual harrasment allegations against him levelled by several wrestlers.

Delhi Police on Friday apprised the Supreme Court that it agreed to register an FIR based on the allegations levelled by wrestlers against the WFI chief.
“I have full faith in the judiciary. I am not running anywhere. I am in my house. By now a case must have been filed against me. I will cooperate with Delhi Police. Whatever the decision of the Supreme Court, I will follow it. Ask the players who are protesting about the allegations against me,” Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh told ANI.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Delhi Police, apprised the SC bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that Delhi Police will register the FIR by this evening.

Appearing for the wrestlers, senior advocate Kapil Sibal urged the court to also issue directions to provide safety to a minor girl, one of the petitioner wrestlers, due to the threat to her. Sibal said he is worried about the safety of the minor girl and other wrestlers.

SG Tushar Mehta said that all these concerns can be addressed by the police.

Top wrestlers have resumed their sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar here in the national capital after filing a complaint at the Connaught Place police station on Friday stating that seven female wrestlers, including one minor, were harassed and exploited by Brij Bhushan in his capacity as WFI chief.

Earlier in the day protesting wrestlers held a press conference at the Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia and star wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik on Friday said that they will continue their protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh until he is sent behind bars.

Indian wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar in the national capital against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment. Top Indian grapplers such as Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and many other wrestlers are involved in the protest against the WFI chief.

On the 6th day of the protest, wrestlers addressed the media after the Delhi Police agreed to register an FIR against the WFI President.

“I’d like to thank all the athletes who have come out in our support. Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj Chopra have supported us because they understand the value of athletes. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be imprisoned soon. He’d continue to misuse his position and he needs to be put behind bars. We’ll protest till the time he goes to jail. We also have to see the sections that the Delhi police have imposed on him. People who felt that our protest will be over after the FIR were wrong and we are in our right to decide on it. All of us protesting need security and the complainants need security because you never know who wants to harm us,” Bajrang Punia said at the press conference.

Star grappler Phogat appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack the WFI chief from all positions.

“We don’t trust Delhi police, they took 6 days to register an FIR. We’ll see what they do. We are adamant about our stand to imprison the WFI President. I appeal to the Prime Minister of India to remove the WFI president from all his responsibilities. This is related to all the sports and I’d urge them to come out in our support and I want to stay in touch with all of them. This is when you safeguard the future of sports and athletes in the country. All the renowned sports people should come out and support us and save Indian sports. If they don’t come out today, they’ll never be able to safeguard India’s sporting culture,” Vinesh Phogat said at the press conference.

“We have already given enough evidence and if anything else is required, we’ll present it to Supreme Court not to the Delhi police. This is not a fight to register an FIR. This is a fight against one person who already has 85 cases against him. We need to free wrestling of corrupt people. We’ll respect the decision made by Supreme Court and will act according to their orders,” she added.

“I’d like to thank all the women who’ve come out in our support. We don’t trust the Delhi police at all, they registered the FIR after Supreme Court’s orders. We just demand a fair investigation. We just want Brij Bhushan to be removed from all the positions and he should be punished accordingly and only then we’ll end our protest,” Sakshi Malik said. (ANI)

Population Paradox: A Time Bomb Or Surplus Resource

The United Nations has projected that in April 2023, India will be overtaking China as the World’s most populated country. India’s population is expected to reach 1,425,775,850 people, matching and consequently surpassing the population of mainland China. Should this be a matter of cheer or concern? Will Indian leadership be able to handle or harness such large numbers to its advantage or detriment? Will this be a constraint on our limited natural reserves or a productive workforce? These are the major issues that need to be debated and discussed at public forums.

The population size of a country is indeed an important factor for its government to consider, particularly in terms of providing employment opportunities and fostering economic growth. It is crucial for any government, including the Indian state, to address the needs and aspirations of its youth population.

India’s unemployment rate has gone up from 7.8 per cent in March 2023 to 8.11 in April 2023. The unemployment rate has been on an upward trajectory since the start of the year, recording an increase for the 4th consecutive month. Rising unemployment and loss of jobs lead to frustration and discontent among young people, at times leading to violent protests and anarchy. If there are limited avenues for employment or entrepreneurship, it can create challenges in terms of social stability and economic development.

Today, India’s status as the most populous country brings both opportunities and challenges. One of the major concerns for the government is the potential consequences of high unemployment with rapidly growing population. To mitigate these concerns, the state must focus on implementing policies that promote job creation, skill development, and entrepreneurship. This involves initiatives fostering a favorable business environment, encouraging innovation, providing easy access to seed capital, improving infrastructure, and investing in education and vocational training programs.

ALSO READ: ‘Measures To Control Population Must Be Holistic’

To ensure social stability and sustainable economic growth, it is crucial to address this issue proactively. Drawing insights from expert opinions, this piece outlines potential solutions to tackle youth unemployment and foster entrepreneurship in India.

Promoting Skill Development: Enhancing the employability of youth requires a focus on skill development. The government should collaborate with industry stakeholders to identify in-demand skills and design vocational training programs aligned with market needs. Strengthening technical education and introducing apprenticeship programs can bridge the gap between education and industry requirements.

Encouraging Entrepreneurship: Creating a conducive environment for startups is vital. Simplifying regulatory frameworks, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and streamlining processes for starting and scaling businesses can attract more entrepreneurs. Offering tax incentives, grants, and access to funding can also encourage risk-taking and innovation.

Investing in Education: A strong educational foundation is essential to equip the youth with skills and knowledge needed for a future workforce. The government should prioritize improving the quality of primary and secondary education, focusing on holistic development, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, promoting research and development in universities can foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

Strengthening Infrastructure: Infrastructure development plays a vital role in creating a business-friendly atmosphere and, resultantly, in creation of jobs. The government should prioritize sectors like construction, transportation, and renewable energy, which have the potential to generate a significant number of jobs. Strategic planning and public-private partnerships can expedite infrastructure projects, thereby boosting employment opportunities.

Encouraging Foreign Direct Investment: Attracting FDI can spur economic growth and job creation. The government should work on improving the ease of doing business by implementing transparent policies, simplifying regulations, and addressing concerns related to intellectual property rights. FDI can bring technology transfer, market access, and employment opportunities, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing and technology.

Strengthening Rural Economy: A significant portion of India’s population resides in rural areas. Thus, empowering the rural economy is essential for an inclusive growth. Encouraging agricultural entrepreneurship, promoting agro-related industries, and investing in rural infrastructure such as warehousing, digitization of foodgrain stocks and creating groups that add value to horticulture can create employment opportunities and reduce migration to urban areas. New technologies that help better crop yield and promotion of cash crops as well as setting up commodity exchanges should go a long way in increasing the income of rural households.

Digital Literacy: Digital literacy is increasingly becoming a prerequisite for employment and entrepreneurship. Expanding access to affordable internet connectivity and providing digital skills training can empower youth to participate in the digital economy. This includes imparting knowledge of digital tools, e-commerce platforms, and online marketing techniques.

The Indian government has been taking steps to address the issue of unemployment and promote entrepreneurship through initiatives like “Make in India”, “Skill India,” and “Startup India.” These programs aim to encourage investment, skill development, and the growth of startups in various sectors.

However, tackling unemployment and providing ample opportunities for a growing population is a complex challenge that requires sustained efforts and comprehensive policies. Governments need to continuously evaluate and adapt their strategies to ensure the effective utilization of human capital and create an environment that fosters innovation, job creation, and entrepreneurship.

Addressing youth unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship require a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach. The Indian government should prioritize skill development, entrepreneurship promotion, education, infrastructure development, FDI, rural empowerment, and digital literacy. By implementing these solutions, India can create a thriving ecosystem that empowers its youth, reduces unemployment, and sets the stage for sustainable economic growth in the years to come.

It’s worth noting that while population size is a factor, it’s not the sole determinant of a country’s success or failure. It is important for governments to adopt a holistic approach that considers various factors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, governance, and economic policies to create a conducive environment for the well-being and growth of their citizens.

Google Loan Apps India

Google Shuts Down Over 3,500 Loan Apps In India For Violating Norms

Tech giant Google has taken action against more than 3,500 loan apps in India in 2022 and removed them from its Play Store for violating policies.

The company gave this information on Thursday in a blog.
According to the blog, in 2022, Google prevented 14 lakh 30 thousand apps from being released on Google Play for violating policies and banned 1,73,000 accounts with fraud and suspicious transactions worth more than USD 200 million. Google said it regularly revises its policies, reviews processes and makes continuous improvement efforts.

According to the blog, the company will make stricter rules regarding ads and privacy in 2023.

In a blog post the company said, “In India, in 2022, we have reviewed and taken necessary enforcement action, including removal of apps, on more than 3,500 personal loan apps for violations of the Play policy requirements. We continue to uplevel our efforts in this area by regularly updating our policies and review processes.”

In October last year, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) slapped two penalties on the tech giant for anti-competitive practices related to Android mobile devices and for abusing its dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies.

The Commission also directed Google to modify its conduct within a defined timeline.

Based on its assessment, the CCI said it found Google to be dominant in the markets for licensable operating systems (OS) for smart mobile devices and market for app stores for Android smart mobile OS, in India.

The competition watchdog said selling in-app digital goods constitutes an important means for app developers to monetise their creations/innovations. However, for in-app digital goods to be distributed to purchasing users, developers must configure their apps so that all purchases of the digital goods go through Google’s payment system, which processes the transactions.
