Ananya Panday Roots For KKR Against RCB In IPL Match

Actor Ananya Panday is an avid Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) supporter. Despite being busy at work, the young artiste did manage to take some time off her schedule to watch the ongoing IPL match of KKR against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Taking to Instagram Story, Ananya panday dropped a video of her watching the match on the phone as she got ready for her shoot.

“The commitment is real…even at work @kkriders,” she captioned the clip.

In the video, she could be seen making a finger-crossed gesture.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl against KKR in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match here at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

The last time these two sides faced each other, KKR got the better of RCB and clinched a comfortable victory at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. KKR have bettered their record in the last game as they hold a handsome 19-14 record in the 33 games played against RCB in head-to-head.

Speaking at toss, RCB captain Faf said, “We will chase. This is probably a chasing ground, always has been. I’m a fan of abetting first when it’s really hot, but the temperature did drop after an hour or so yesterday, unlike in Mumbai or Chennai where it stays very hot. The batting is so strong that a general score or 60-70 isn’t considered great. We have three changes – Green and Siraj come back, so does Mayank Dagar. We know if we do a few things back, the momentum can be back and we do have the firepower.”

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer said, “Last afternoon game here, we know how the wicket plays, we would have loved to bowl as well. It’s stiflingly hot and we’ll look to make them as tired as possible. We’ve tried to keep things simple, it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you end, just stick to the basics. We are playing the same team. It’s important to assess the conditions and execute our plans, then it’ll go in our favour.”

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI): Faf du Plessis(c), Virat Kohli, Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik(w), Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj.

Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)

We Got Majority In 2014, 2019, Abolish 370, Build Ram Mandir, Implement CAA: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the people gave BJP full majority in 2014 and 2019 election, and they used that to abolish Article 370, build Ram Mandir, implement CAA and give 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

Addressing the Vijay Sankalp Mahasammelan here today, Amit Shah said, “You gave us full majority in 2014 and 2019, we used the majority to abolish 370, build the temple at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, implement CAA and give 33% reservation to women in Lok Sabha and Assemblies.”

“If you had voted for Congress in 2019, Kota would have become the house of PFI. You voted for PM Modi and he ended PFI and put them behind bars. They say that they will lift the ban on PFI. Congress is an anti-development party. For five years there was Gehlot-government but they did not let the Eastern Rajasthan Canal project move ahead for five years. After the Bhajanlal Sharma government came to power, within three months we signed the agreement for the Eastern Rajasthan Canal project,” Shah added.

Further, the Home Minister slammed Congress and said that the first phase of elections concluded, on Friday and on all the seats Congress has been wiped off.

“When we talk about crossing 400, Congress gets stomach ache. They are spreading lies that if BJP gets 400 seats then they will end the reservation. Modi ji gave Rs 20 thousand crore to 87 lakh farmers in Rajasthan as Kisan Samman Nidhi. Made 3 lakh lakhpati didi. Tap water was supplied to the homes of 51 lakh poor people. 2 crore people were given the benefit of Ayushman Bharat scheme. Work was done to build toilets in the houses of 86 lakh poor people. Congress is an anti-development party,” Amit Shah said further.

The remaining 13 seats in Rajasthan will be contested in the second phase on April 26.

The remaining phases will be held on May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1 accordingly. The last general elections in 2019 were also held in seven phases.

In 2019, BJP registered a sweeping victory winning 24 out of 25 seats, while the remaining one seat was won by Rashtriya Loktrantrik Party Candidate Hanuman Beniwal. (ANI)

Newly Enacted Criminal Laws Transitioned India’s Legal Framework Into New Age: CJI Chandrachud

The Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, on Saturday said that “the newly enacted criminal laws have transitioned India’s legal framework on criminal justice into the new age.”

Addressing a conference on India’s Criminal Justice System organised by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the CJI said that much needed improvements have been introduced to protect victim interests and carry out the investigation and prosecution of offences efficiently.

“India is set for a significant overhaul of its criminal justice system with the upcoming

implementation of three new criminal laws. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872, respectively. These laws signify a watershed moment for our society because no law affects the day-to-day conduct of our society like the criminal law,” he said.

Criminal law directs the moral arc of a nation. The underlying justification for the substantive provisions is the age-old harm principle, which is best summarised in the saying, ‘Your right to swing your arms ends just where the other man’s nose begins. Procedural law, which governs crimes from the state of setting the criminal process in motion to the conviction for the commission of the offence, ensures that no person is charged and subsequently convicted for offences without due process of law, he added.

While addressing the Conference on India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of the Criminal Justice System, Chandrachud said, “Our laws and their implementation are an ever-evolving area. There is no finality to any law or the manner of its implementation. However, we must be willing to embrace positive changes to meet the needs of our times.”

“I expect that with the implementation of the new criminal laws, we will discover loopholes and areas that need to be addressed. Such debates would be helpful in enhancing the efficiency of our criminal justice systems. However, the ideological framework at the heart of our analysis must be justice-oriented with a civil liberty-centric approach that balances the interests of the victim and the accused,” he added.

“Our laws need to address these concerns and obviate age-old issues like delays in examination of witnesses, conclusion of trials, overcrowding of prisons and the issue of undertrial prisoners,” he said.

The 248th Report of the Standing Committee of the Rajya Sabha on the Bharatiya Sakshya Samhita of November 10, 2023, noted that the Indian criminal justice system has struggled to keep pace with the profound technological changes our socio-economic milieu that have radically re-imagined the way in which crimes manifest in society.

The growing scope of technology and new-age crime, which use the digital landscape to create networks of collaborative units to commit crimes, cannot be pinned to investigative situations. This has presented challenges in the investigation of crimes, admission of evidence, prosecution, and delivery of justice, the CJI said.

As the distinguished American jurist Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said in “Law in Science–Science in Law”, that “everyone instinctively recognises that in these days, the justification of a law for us cannot be found in the fact that our fathers have always followed it. It must be found in some help that the law brings towards reaching a social end that the governing power of the community has made up its mind that it wants,” said CJI.

The three laws, i.e., the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, replace the earlier criminal laws, namely, the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. As notified, these criminal laws are to take effect from July 1.

Other dignitaries who attended the conference includes Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (independent charge) for the Ministry of Law and Justice, R Venkataramani, Attorney General for India, Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, Rajiv Mani, Law Secretary, Government of India, among others.

The conference aims to bring out the highlights of the three criminal laws and organise meaningful interactions through technical and question-and-answer sessions. Besides, judges of various courts, advocates, academicians, representatives of law enforcement agencies, police officials, public prosecutors, district administration officials and law students also participated in the conference. INDI Alliance Has No Leader, No Vision: Modi In Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at Congress and INDIA bloc, saying that opposition alliance has no leader or vision for future and their history is ridden with scams.

Addressing a rally in Chikkaballapur to boost NDA’s campaign for Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, PM Modi said his government has worked hard and every second of his life is dedicated to the welfare of people.

“The INDI alliance even do not have a leader at present, nor they have any vision for future and their history is one of scams and that is why (people in) Chikkaballapur and Kolar are saying -abki baar Modi Sarkar,” the Prime Minister said.

Opposition parties have formed INDIA bloc to take on the Modi government in the Lok Sabha polls.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, whose party Janata Dal (Secular) is fighting the Lok Sabha election in alliance with the BJP, shared the stage with Prime Minister.

Deve Gowda, who had BJP symbol as other leaders on the dais, held PM Modi’s hand to reflect the solidarity between the two parties for the Lok Sabha polls.

PM Modi also said that the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, held on Friday, has gone in the favour of NDA and “Viksit Bharat”.

“The first phase of voting, has increased the excitement in the country. And I can see this excitement here too. In the first phase, voting was done in favour of the NDA and Viksit Bharat,” the PM said.

“Today I have come among all of you with my report card to seek your blessings… For you, I left no stone unturned in working hard day and night. Your dream is my resolution. Every second of my life is dedicated to you and the country. 24X7 for 2047… I just don’t make policies, I give guarantees,” he added.

PM Modi said the biggest beneficiaries of the BJP-led government are members belonging to SCs, STs, and OBCs and alleged that they were forced to live in poverty earlier.

“The biggest beneficiaries of the Modi government are SC, ST, and OBC families. In earlier governments, families from SC, ST, and OBC communities had to live in slums, they did not have access to electricity and water. They had lost all hope in the government. Your lost faith has been reinstated in the Modi government because of Modi’s guarantee. In the last 10 years, 25 crore people have come out of poverty,” PM Modi said.

“Those who were given the least importance, the ones standing last in the line, NDA government has moved them to the first place in the line. The NDA nominated a member from the SC community as the President,it also nominated a tribal woman as the President. It is our government which has developed the five places associated with Babasaheb Ambedkar as ‘Panchtirtha’,” he added.

Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka will be held in two phases on April 26 and May 7.

Congress has nominated MS Raksha Ramaiah, son of former minister MR Seetharam, from Chikkaballapur while the BJP has fielded Dr. K Sudhakar, a former health minister. (ANI)

Rahul Baba And Priyanka Take Vacation Every 3 Months

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that on one side there is Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi who take vacation abroad every three months and on the other side, is Narendra Modi who does not take leave even on Diwali.

Addressing a public meeting here today, Amit Shah exuded confidence in winning all the 25 seats in Rajasthan.

“Rajasthan is going to give all 25 seats to Modi ji for the third time by doing a hat-trick. This election is clearly divided into two camps. On one side there is Congress which committed Rs 12 lakh crore scam and on the other side there is Narendra Modi, on whom nobody can put allegations of even 25 paisa. On one side there is Rahul baba and his sister who take vacation abroad every three months and on the other side there is Narendra Modi who does not take leave even on Diwali,” he said.

“Modi ji has not taken a single leave for 23 years, being the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. On one hand Sonia Gandhi’s agenda is to make her son PM and on the other hand Modi ji’s agenda is to make India great. Wherever I go in the entire country, slogans of Modi-Modi are raised,” Amit Shah added.

Further, listing out the achievements during his government tenure, Shah mentioned that Congress kept hanging the issue of Ram Mandir and after Modi ji became PM, the court’s decision also came and everywhere it was Jai Shri Ram.

“Congress was suppressing Article 370 for years. Modi ji ended it on August 5, 2019 and made Kashmir a part of India forever. After 500 years, Ram Lalla celebrated his birthday (Ram Navami) in his grand temple. Sonia-Manmohan’s government lasted for 10 years in which people from Pakistan used to enter the country every day and carry out bomb blasts. It happened in Uri and Pulwama also and they felt that nothing would happen this time too. Modi ji did the work of eliminating terrorism through surgical strikes and air strikes in just 10 days,” the Home Minister said.

Amit Shah also asserted that it is the Modi Guarantee that if he will become PM for the third time, they will make India the third largest economy in the world. (ANI)

BJP’s ‘400-Paar’ Has Flopped On Day 1 Of The Polls: Tejashwi

After the completion of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the BJP’s “400 paar” film has become a super flop on the first day itself.

Tejashwi Yadav told ANI that there is no competition in the first phase as Bihar will give shocking results this time.

“The Mahagathbandhan is winning all four seats in the first phase. We have held block wise meetings and the feedback that has come is very good the BJP’s “400 paar” film has become a super flop on the first day itself. The people of Bihar are aware and will teach them a lesson,” he said.

“There is no competition in the first phase. We have said many times before that Bihar will give shocking results this time. They have not done anything for the people of Bihar. The promises made by Modi ji in 2014 and 2019 were not fulfilled. Now the public is tired of their statements and false promises. We have promised that we will give special package to Bihar along with special status,” Tejashwi added.

Further, former Bihar Chief Minister pointed out that the local issues hold dominance in this election.

“Today our rally is with Rahul Gandhi ji in Bhagalpur. The entire Mahagathbandhan and INDIA bloc are working together. Unemployment is the biggest issue in Bihar. Inflation, poverty, investment in the state is an issue. Migration and floods are also issues. This time the people of BJP are very worried. They say that they will abolish the Constitution. Those who destroy the Constitution will themselves be destroyed,” Tejashwi said.

Meanwhile, according to the Election Commission, voter turnout in Bihar was recorded at 48.88 per cent in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election.

In Phase 1, voting on four seats- Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, and Aurangabad concluded on Friday.

Ram Navami Processions Were Attacked: Yogi On TMC, Mamata

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for clashes during Ram Navami in Murshidabad. He blamed TMC for the attack on Ram Navami processions and hurting the ‘Sanatan’ faith.

“Ram Navami celebrations and processions were conducted safely in all the states ruled by the BJP, but due to the TMC government of West Bengal, Ram Navami processions were attacked there and efforts were made to hurt ‘Sanatan’ faith. We should not forget that the first condition of good governance is the rule of law and there is no hesitation in saying that under the leadership and guidance of Modi ji, the BJP has improved security within the country and the state governments of the BJP have also improved security within the states.”

Earlier on Thursday West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the BJP orchestrated the recent clash in Murshidabad on Wednesday.

Reportedly, clashes broke out during a Ram Navami procession in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, resulting in numerous injuries on Wednesday.

“I am challenging and saying that BJP orchestrated the incident that happened the other day… If I ask the BJP commission why they removed their DIG one day before Ram Navami,? Was it to plan this?” CM Banerjee said this at a public rally in Raiganj.

CM Yogi stated that Rajasthan would contribute to BJP’s victory with a significant majority by embracing Modi’s model of nationalism, development, security, and good governance.

“Rajasthan will contribute to the victory of BJP with a huge majority by accepting Modi ji’s model of nationalism, development, security and good governance,” he said.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh expressed confidence that the BJP will perform well in Rajasthan’s Lok Sabha elections, as it did in the previous elections.

“I have full confidence that in the last Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan, 25 seats were given to the BJP, this time also Rajasthan will give a 100% result in favour of the BJP,” he said. (ANI)

Iraq Iran

Explosions Rock Pro-Iran Military Base In Iraq

At least three people were injured following five explosions at a pro-Iran military base in Iraq on Saturday, CNN reported, citing a security official.

However, the reason behind the explosions is not known as yet.

The blasts, notably, took place at a site belonging to the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), as per Muhannad al-Anazi, a member of the Security Committee in Babylon Governorate, south of Baghdad.

The investigation into the blasts that occurred “at the Kalsu military base in the Al-Mashrou district on the highway, north of the Babylon Governorate,” is underway.

Israeli and US officials said neither was involved in the blast, a day after a military strike on Iran which has been attributed to Israel.

Known alternatively as the Popular Mobilization Forces, the PMU is an Iraqi paramilitary group that is mostly supported by Shiite Iran. The PMU, in contrast to other Iran-backed organizations in the area, is affiliated with the local administration and has strong ties to Shiite blocs in Iran that have dominated Iraqi politics for a long time, according to CNN.

The explosion occurred during a period of intense tension in the Middle East as Israel fights Hamas in Gaza following the terrorist organization’s deadly assault into southern Israel on October 7, which was sponsored by Iran.

This month’s tit-for-tat strikes have also exposed Israel and Iran’s long-running covert conflict.

Israel launched a potentially deadly military strike on Iran early on Friday, a US official told CNN. Although no significant damage was recorded, Iran and Israel have not stated where the strike originated.

Iran’s air defence systems were activated in several locations after multiple explosions were heard close to the airport and an army base in the Iranian city of Isfahan, state media reported early Friday morning.

The missile launches come after Iran launched an offensive on targets around Israel on Saturday last week, according to Israeli military authorities, in which the nation fired a barrage of over 300 unmanned drones and missiles. (ANI)
