Anil Anupam Meet Rishabh

Anil, Anupam Meet Rishabh In Dehradun Hospital

Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher on Saturday morning met Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, who is currently being treated at the Max Hospital, Dehradun following a car accident.

Talking to the media, actor Anupam Kher said, “We came to know that Rishabh Pant is in the hospital, so I and Anil, as a common citizen, came to see him. We met his mother and he is much better, his spirits are very high and the blessings of the whole of India are with him, so he will get well soon. We met his relatives, all is good, all is fine, we made them laugh. We went to meet him as fans. We as responsible citizens take that please drive carefully, especially when it is foggy at night. Wishing you all a very happy new year.”
Anil Kapoor said, “He is in high spirits and he should be fine, we also met his mother and relatives, and all are very good. Whoever is watching this I would like to appeal that, pray for him, so that he recovers soon and we will see him playing.”

The wicketkeeper-batter narrowly escaped death after his high-end vehicle smashed into a road barrier and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. According to reports, he had dozed off on the wheel.

The results of Rishabh Pant’s MRI of the brain and spinal cord have returned as ‘normal’.

Pant, who was alone in the car, suffered injuries on his back, forehead, and leg.

Earlier, BCCI issued a statement saying, “Pant has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, and toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. Rishabh’s condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment, as per the BCCI statement shared with the media.”

The Board said it will see to it that Pant receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase.

The wicket-keeper batsman has represented India in 33 Test matches, scoring 2271 runs at an average of 43.67. He has five Test tons against his name, with his highest being 159 not out. Pant also has 119 catches and 14 stumpings against his name.

In 66 T20Is, the wicket-keeper batter has scored 987 runs, with three half-centuries against his name at an average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.37. (ANI)

Former Pope Benedict XVI

Former Pope Benedict XVI Passes Away At 95

Former Pope Benedict passed away at his Vatican residence on Saturday aged 95.

“With sorrow, I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Further information will be provided as soon as possible,” Vatican News tweeted.
Pope Benedict passed away two days after Pontiff Francis asked to pray for the “very sick” former Pope, CNN said in a report.

“I want to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict who sustains the Church in his silence. He is very sick,” Pope Francis said during his general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday.

“We ask the Lord to console and sustain him in this witness of love for the Church to the very end,” added Pope Francis.

In 2013, Pope Benedict XVI shocked the world by making the almost unprecedented decision to stand down from his position, citing “advanced age.”

Benedict’s announcement marked the first time a Pope had stepped down in nearly 600 years, reported CNN.

The last Pope to resign before his death was Gregory XII, who in 1415 quit ending a civil war within the Catholic Church in which more than one man claimed to be Pope. (ANI)

Rahul On T-shirt Row

Thand Se Dar Nahi Lagta, Says Rahul On T-shirt Row

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday tackled the “T-shirt” controversy that appears to have taken the centre stage after he marched into Delhi borders on December 24 leading his Bharat Jodo Yatra with just a white T-shirt and trousers amid severe cold conditions.

Speaking to the media, the Congress MP gave an amusing response when quizzed on his winter woolen choices as the national capital saw mercury hover between 7 and 4 degrees Celsius over the past week.
In a light-hearted conversation with reporters, the Wayanad MP said that he is thinking of wearing a sweater once he starts feeling cold.

While addressing the press conference, Rahul Gandhi said, “Why is there so much hullabaloo over a T-shirt? I do not wear a sweater because I am not scared of winter. I am thinking of wearing a sweater once I start feeling cold.”

It is not like only social media users and others have raised the T-shirt issue, but several videos doing rounds have purportedly shown his mother and former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi questioning him on his winter wardrobe.

Rahul Gandhi also said he considers the Bharatiya Janata Party as his “guru” (teacher) as the BJP shows him a roadmap and teaches him “what should never be done”.

Addressing a press conference, the Wayanad MP said, “I want them (BJP) to attack us aggressively, this will help the Congress party understand its ideology. I consider them (BJP) as my Guru, they are showing me the way and training me on what is not to be done.”

While talking about the Bharat Jodo Yatra which entered New Delhi on December 24 before taking a nine-day break, he said, “When I started this, I just took it as an ordinary yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Slowly we understood that this yatra has a voice & feelings.”

“The doors of Bharat Jodo Yatra are open for everyone, we are not going to stop anyone from joining us. Akhilesh ji, Mayawati ji, and others want “Mohabbat ka Hindustan”,” he said in an open invite to the other parties of the opposition ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Rahul Gandhi’s mass contacting campaign, Bharat Jodo Yatra, was issued cautionary notes by the Centre amid a rise in COVID-19 cases across neighboring countries.

So far, the Yatra, which started from Kanyakumari on September 7, has covered parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, and Haryana.

It is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in the history of India, the Congress has claimed.

With this yatra, Rahul Gandhi aims to mobilize the party cadre and unite the general public against the BJP’s “divisive politics in the country”. (ANI)

Amid Biting Cold In Capital

Amid Biting Cold, Rickshaw Pullers, Hawkers Forced To Work For Survival In Capital

Despite the biting cold affecting the national capital, this December, not everyone is very fortunate to have a hot coffee and a warm bed. There are certain sections that are compelled to work in the open during this chilling season as the mercury dips.

After a brief respite, severe cold conditions returned to the national capital on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 10 degrees celsius at the Safdarjung station in Delhi.
In such circumstances on Delhi’s streets, we can see many people putting efforts to connect the ends either by selling tea or pulling rickshaws. Moreover, hawkers, sweepers, and many other professionals have also gotten no respite from the cold.

A tea seller in Delhi told ANI that he opens his shop daily as several other people come to his shop early in the morning.

“I have to open the tea stall at 4 am as there are many people, especially auto drivers, rickshaw pullers, and hawkers, come here to my shop to start their day with the tea from my shop,” said the tea shop owner Ramesh Sharma.

A sweeper Lalit who sweeps the street near Civil Lines said “I am an MCD worker, I have to do work even if it is cold or raining before Delhi wakes up because it’s my job. I come here at 4 and sweep the street before the traffic starts to run, else it would become very challenging.”

Meanwhile, one of the rickshaw pullers here, Basir Khan said that they are compelled to work in such conditions as he has to feed the family.

“People like us have to work every day under compulsion if we start being affected by the cold waves or rain, how will our families survive and how will my children study? Everything would turn difficult,” rickshaw puller Basir Khan said.

Another rickshaw puller, who is also a migrant worker from Bihar, Dashrath Sahni, expressed his feelings and said that if affected by weather, he would not be able to pay the rent of the rickshaw to its owner.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), New Delhi’s Lodhi Road experienced ‘Very Poor’ air quality this morning with AQI recorded at 369.

The India Meteorological Department earlier predicted that cold wave conditions would likely prevail from December 31 and January 1 over Haryana, Chandigarh, and New Delhi.

In a tweet on December 28, IMD said, “Reduction in dense fog and cold day conditions over northwest India during next 48 hours. A fresh spell of dense fog and cold wave likely to commence over northwest India from 31st December 2022”. (ANI)

ITBP Guards Indo-China Border

ITBP Guards Indo-China Border, None Can Take An Inch: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday asserted that he is never worried about the India-China border as he knows that the ITBP personnel is guarding the borders there and “because of this, no one can occupy even an inch of India’s land”.

Shah was speaking at the inauguration of newly constructed buildings of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) here in Karnataka’s Devanhalli region and laying the foundation stone for a Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
In his address, the Home Minister lauded the Himveers of ITBP for their dedicated service to the nation and said the government has been undertaking all possible steps to make the service conditions of the jawans better.

He said that ITBP serves in very difficult conditions and the nation knows the jawans as ‘Himveers’.

“The ITBP has been doing yeomen service to the Nation by keeping the toughest borders on the Himalayas safe in inhospitable conditions,” said the Home Minister.

“People have bestowed ITBP jawans the title of ‘Himveer’ which is bigger than Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan.”

Shah said: “No one can occupy even an inch of India’s land as he knows that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel are guarding the frontiers.”

His remarks came days after the December 9 clashes along the Line of Actual Control between the Indian and Chinese forces at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Prahlad Joshi; Chief Minister of Karnataka, Vasavraj Bommai; Home Minister of Karnataka, Araga Jnanendra; Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister, Karnataka, K Sudhakar; DG ITBP Anish Dayal Singh; and DG BPR&D, Balaji Srivastava, were also present on the occasion.

Shah’s remarks came days after the recent clash near Yangtse along the LAC in the sensitive sector took place after the over 30-month border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh.

“On December 9, PLA troops contacted the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang Sector which was contested by own (Indian) troops in a firm and resolute manner. This face-off led to minor injuries to few personnel from both sides,” the Indian Army had said in a statement earlier this month.

“Both sides immediately disengaged from the area. As a follow up of the incident, own (Indian) commander in the area held a flag meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity,” it had said.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told in parliament that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops tried to transgress the LAC in the Yangtse area of Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh and unilaterally change the status quo but they went back to their locations due to timely intervention of Indian military commanders.

Giving a statement in the House, the Defence Minister had also assured the Upper House that “our forces are committed to protecting our territorial integrity and will continue to thwart any attempt made on it”. (ANI)

India Stands Up To Hate Politics

If life could be totally predictable, inevitable and mechanical, then it would be difficult to live for even one moment. If everything could be ‘manufactured consent’, as Noam Chomsky wrote, totally controlled and pre-determined, then this Orwellian realm of everyday existentialism, hate politics and fake news, would be, indeed, suffocating and oppressive.

Yes, it is.

And, yet, it is not!

If thought and emotion do not precede action, and if theory and praxis have no meaningful synthesis, then it would be a jarring symphony we would be playing all our life. If collective and individual suffering is dumped and degraded in the pursuit of crass, selfish, profit and ambition, then there can be no love for the nation, or humanity. All the books we have read, our youthful idealism, our dream for a better world — that is of no use anymore.

There can be wealth, fame, private property, cushy jobs, happy families and comfort zones in our atomized, protected, sanitized structures of daily life. But, there would be no music, nor dance, or song. There would be no authentic friendships or spiritual journeys into the unknown, no contradictions or imperfections, no vulnerabilities and fragilities, no compassion and passion. Knowledge will never truly liberate. Work and love will have no play or joy. All freedom and happiness would be fake!

This is because despite the typical patterns of predictability, despite the black holes which often trap our inner souls into a doomed dungeon, there are always signs and symbols of magical optimism which emerge from nowhere, outside the manifest code, beyond the truth of absolute knowledge. Walter Benjamin would call it close reading beneath the surface, rediscovering the nuanced, the unstated, the mystical, the intangible. Ivan Illich would say that what is of utmost importance is unlearning and learning – perhaps unlearning is more crucial then learning.

There could be music in an empty sheet of paper, who knows? Akira Kurosawa would jot down all over the blank sheet, on the sides, in the corners, for hours labouring on his notes, like the old Postcards we wrote before quick emails destroyed letter-writing.  Despite that, he was unable to find the central thesis of his disjointed masterpiece.

Andrei Tarkovsky would make magnificent and mystical cinema, often, with his father’s poetry in the backdrop in Russian, and you could see actually the grass move with the wind and touch the beautiful woman’s feet in ‘Mirror’; she, sitting on a fence, forlorn and solitary. Like a message of deep love from a man going away into the far-distance.

And, yet, Tarkovsky would know that cinema is so painstakingly technological, meticulously mechanical; and, yet, he would say, that poetry has a different reason to exist for different human beings, because it could be a ‘way of life’, like his cinema in exile from totalitarian Soviet Russia.

There was indeed music on an A-4 size of paper recently, which was a blank sheet, held by young girls and boys in China, seeking dissent and democracy, in an absolute dictatorship, camouflaged as “Communist”, but, basically, a Repressive State Apparatus. They have recently witnessed how the students’ movement in Hongkong, the media, and civil society, were so brutally crushed by the ‘Communist Establishment’ in Hongkong. So much so, a statue as a tribute to those students massacred in Tiananmen Square in June, 1984, too, was crushed in Hong Kong. Indeed, why are dictators so afraid of memories?

The blank A-4 sheets held by youngsters in China only said what they wanted to speak out aloud, and could never speak. This too was a sign that all is not lost, even in a one-dimensional dictatorship led by a man with a half-twisted smile who has assumed that he too is immortal – like all dictators in the history of the world!

Remember the Dandi March? Remember Richard Attenborough’s epic film on Gandhi? Remember that reporter trying to send a story of the march on the wire? Remember how the police broke the heads of each and every Satyagrahi, coming one by one, waiting for the blow, refusing to succumb?

ALSO READ: ‘Bharat Jodo Is A Healing Touch For Wounded Nation’

There was no big monopoly media those days under the repressive, cold-blooded plunderers of the brutal British empire. There was no internet or social media or television. Despite that the march against the Salt Tax was ‘breaking news’ inside every courtyard of distant Indian homes! How did that happen?

And people who had little or no courage were burning firangi clothes inside their homes, because Gandhi gave them a chance to join the freedom struggle, even with their constraints. And even while he built a committed cadre and political leadership which would be ready to sacrifice everything for the freedom of the country, he knew that those who have little courage today can show exemplary bravery tomorrow, perhaps, day after tomorrow! All human beings, thus, deserve a chance. Those who are cowards today can become the bravest tomorrow.

This is because history is unpredictable, like human nature, and history shapes human nature, since it is the being which determines the consciousness, and not vice versa, as Karl Marx wrote. He also wrote, that if you can’t love, and if your love cannot create love, then you are an “unobjective being, an impotent person”.

It is like Che Guevara’s famous poster which says that if you can’t love, you can never change the world. This is because if there is no synthesis between the romantic and the radical, then the radical is dry, barren, rootless, and narcissistic, without sensuality or sensitivity, almost inhuman, outside humanity.

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Almost 25 kilometers every day, with a dedicated band of ‘walkers’, criss-crossing the countryside, small towns and cities,  holding hands and fingers, walking with youngsters, old and young, uninhibited and with effortless love and affection, hugging everyone, carrying little kids on the shoulders, running suddenly in a spurt of energy and ecstasy, watching street theatre by idealistic youngsters on the wayside, discussing all that is important and seemingly unimportant, from sustainable environment to the logic of tapasaya, to the nostalgia of old Italian scooters, walking, nevertheless, from very early morning to twilight, each day, with tens of thousands of Indians.

Who are these tens of thousands of Indians? And what is the message?

In the market of hate, a daily public spectacle is selling unchained, unselfish, unbridled love —  unleashed! No wonder, despite the stooge media — doing nothing but Hindu-Muslim hate polarizations — blocking it, or the trolls trolling it with crudity unsurpassed, the message found a sacred space in the solitary book shelf of every heart, even, perhaps, those hearts who hate day and night, and never get tired of it.

Let it be stated, finally and frankly, that the Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by a young, bearded Rahul Gandhi, with infinite stamina, in a faded white T-shirt, has struck a chord across millions of hearts in India! And this is happening when we all thought hate has won the final victory, and that rapists and murderers would forever become free in Gujarat, that fear is the only Orwellian key in our daily life, and that we know so well how so many innocent, peaceful protesters, including young and brilliant scholars, most of them Muslims who believe in the Indian Constitution, have been languishing in prisons.

The love has spread in the dingy dungeons of hate, though the frustrated faces of hate remain unchanged. The love has touched the people beyond class, caste, religion and identity, and it is still a lovely ghost who walks the streets. They just cannot stop it.

“Rahul Gandhi, he is in your mind,” he told reporters in his umpteenth press conference, in a ‘democracy’ where the current PM has had — not ‘one’ press conference. The meaning is clear as a pristine and ever-flowing river, like the long march. This yatra is different – it is another phase of ‘national enlightenment’. Don’t talk of individuals. They are mere signs and of history.

This contemporary history must change. This world must change. This India must change.  Because, as the slogan goes: Nafrat Choro, Bharat Jodo

Happy New Year Dear Readers, Friends and Strangers. May love, friendship and hope float in your warm and cosy homes.

Mata Vaishno Devi

Huge Rush Witnessed At Mata Vaishno Devi Ahead Of New Year

The Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu witnessed a huge rush of devotees on Saturday as serpentine queues were seen on the Trikota hills of Katra despite the severe cold conditions ahead of New Year.

Devotees hailing from different regions of the country, including children, were seen chanting “Jai Mata Di” as they made their way up and down the hill, wishing each other the best ahead of the new year.
“I am getting a good feeling. I come here on the eve of every new year. I have been coming here for 5-6 years to pray to Mata Devi. I am feeling good,” said Manish Kumar, a devotee from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, who was seen chanting “Jai Mata Di”.

Poonam Sharma, another devotee said, “I wish that ‘Mata Rani’ shower her blessings upon everyone. Everyone remain happy. May the new year turn out well and bring happiness to everyone”.

Reminded about the Vaishno Devi stampede of January 1, 2022, in which 12 people were killed and 16 were injured, Sharma said, “It was an unfortunate incident.” And hoped more facilities would be provided in the future.

Ranjan, a devotee who came from Punjab along with her family wished happiness for all.

“I am feeling very happy. May God shower her blessings on everyone — is my wish. I feel fortunate to have come here along with my family to pay our respects at the feet of Mata Devi. I wish happiness to everyone on the eve of the new year,” Ranjan said.

Earlier this month, Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a security review of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra of Reasi district.

On December 21, Deputy Inspector General, Udhampur-Reasi Range Mohd Suleman Choudhary held the security review meeting that was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi Amit Gupta, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Commandant, Superintendent of Police, Katra, among others.

The DIG reviewed every security drill of the shrine, the yatra route, safety and security of pilgrims visiting the shrine on a daily basis.

The DIG further directed to conduct of a joint security drill along with the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and other intelligence agencies for the security of the shrine. (ANI)

To maintain law and order on New Year’s Eve, Faridabad police will deploy 2000 police personnel in the city on Saturday night, officials said on Friday.

Faridabad Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar Arora appealed to the citizens to celebrate the new year in a cheerful and peaceful manner.
“Celebrate the new year with pomp with your family members and cooperate in maintaining peace in the society. In the new year, set new goals and work hard to fulfill them and try to spread new colours in the lives of your colleagues by showing them the right path,” he said.

“On the occasion of New Year, people drink alcohol and drive under the influence of alcohol, which increases the chances of an accident. He further said that special attention would be paid to hotels, contracts, restaurants, etc.

“In order to avoid any cases of molestation and snatching anywhere, every police station manager will form teams by including women policemen and according to the excise act, special attention will be paid to hotels, contracts, restaurants, etc.,” the police commissioner said.

He added that the police have identified over 60 strategic locations across the city including areas like malls, shopping complexes, markets, hotels, restaurants, and party halls, and also near the marked square intersections, where separate checkpoints will be set up and a separate team of police will keep a watch on notorious elements from 6.00 pm onwards.
