Minister Suresh Pachouri BJP

Come With Zero Expectations: Pachouri After Joining BJP

Revealing his grouse against the Congress high command after crossing over to the BJP, former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri on Saturday pointed to some decisions, both ‘political and religious’, as ones that prompted his exit from the party.

Addressing a press conference at an event during which he was inducted into the ruling party in the state, Pachouri identified the turning down of the invitation to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Ram Lalla by the Congress heavyweights last year as the primary reason for his exit.

The grand Ram temple in Ayodhya was inaugurated on December 22, last year, drawing a long line of VVIP guests from across the country and abroad.

Pachouri was ushered into the BJP earlier in the day in the presence of former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his successor Mohan Yadav and senior leader and MLA Kailash Vijayvarghia, among others.

Voicing his misgivings over the prevailing state of affairs in the Congress, the former Union Minister blamed his switchover on the party’s shift towards ‘divisive politics’.

Speaking to ANI after being formally inducted into the BJP, Pachouri said, “I entered politics to serve society and the country. Congress has always worked towards establishing a classless society. However, the idea stands rejected today. Some of the decision-making by the Congress high command, especially on religious and political matters, drove me closer to the edge and eventually exit the party.”

Invoking a party event where he claimed derogatory remarks were made against Lord Ram, Pachouri said it added to his discontent against the leadership and eventually made him sever all ties with the Congress.

Quoting a verse from the Ramcharitmanas, the miffed leader said, “I will not stand with those who do not respect Ram-Ji”.

Also revealing a deep-rooted desire for the construction of a ‘Ram Mandir’ in Ayodhya, he expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling the long-held dream of devout Hindus all over the world.

On whether his decision to quit the Congress was timed to coincide with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Pachouri said, “I have never been hungry for power. Even today, I have come here with zero expectations. However, it is clear that the pulse of the people is clearly with the BJP.”

“The Congress has drifted from the core principles and policies that it was founded on. It has alienated itself from the public and is unable win back lost support,” the former Union Minister told ANI.

Addressing media persons after picking up its latest Congress scalp, BJP state president VD Sharma said earlier, “Former Union Minister and Congress leader Suresh Pachouri is a tall leader in Madhya Pradesh Congress. Since there is no place for leaders of his stature in the Congress anymore, he has joined the BJP and will work under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” (ANI)

Gram Parikrama Yatra

BJP’s Preparations In Full Swing To Woo Farmers Through Gram Parikrama Yatra

The Bharatiya Janata Party is having an important dialogue with the farmers of 1.25 lakh villages across the country through the “Gram Parikrama Yatra” program. This program started on February 12 and will continue till March 12, the entire program will last for one month.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has made complete preparations to woo the farmers before the Lok Sabha elections and that is why it is continuously organizing various programs to communicate with the farmers.

The National President of the BJP’s Kisan Morcha, Rajkumar Chahar, said, “We are communicating with the farmers through Gaon Parikrama Yatra and Kisan Chaupal. Our objective is to take suggestions from the farmers and to know what they want from Modi ji so that the “Sankalp patra” will be prepared. These things can be added in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Could include him in Modi’s guarantee.”

The programs held across the country were broadcast on 900 screens, that is, by installing one screen in one district, the village parikrama yatra and Kisan Chaupal was telecasted live with the labourers and farmers.

Communication with the farmers has been done by distributing leaflets about the work done by the Modi government for the welfare of farmers and circling the village is being done under the Gram Parikrama yatra. Under Kisan Chaupal, to establish communication with the labourers and farmers, if there is any ex-serviceman or martyr’s family in the village and to honour those who are progressive farmers.

A Gram Parikrama Yatra started on February 12 in Sukh Teerth of Muzaffarnagar in Western Uttar Pradesh. In this journey, about 20,000 farmers participated in the first rally. The program was addressed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the program, BJP Kisan Morcha National President Rajkumar Chahar. Apart from BJP Uttar Pradesh chief president Bhupendra Yadav and Dharampal Singh, local leaders were present and dialogue was also held with the people of the village.

“There is no opposition of any kind anywhere in the Gaon Parikrama Yatra because of the work done by the Modi government in the last 10 years, ranging from the Kisan Fasal Yojana, Kisan Samman Nidhi, crop insurance, Kisan Rail Deep Irrigation, Nano Urea and its 50 per cent subsidy to 300 units for free. Farmers are very excited about electricity, and MSP is given on crops. Under Modi’s government, MSP has increased by 1.5 times and 2 times. We are reaching 1.25 lakh villages.” BJP Kisan Morcha National President Rajkumar Chahar said.

“MSP seems to be the main issue at the moment. There is a lot of purchasing on MSP on some crops in Punjab. MSP has continuously increased in production. Exports are also big and the government itself is continuously sitting in Chandigarh for talks. The solution will be found through talks. The government has been taking decisions in the interest of farmers earlier and will continue to take them in future also. Some issues need good discussion in the interest of farmers, like the issue of MSP” he added.

Rajkumar Chahar, told ANI that a Lebi movement had already taken place once in the country. The wheat purchasing centre is also called ‘Lebi’ in the local language.

“It was Indira Gandhi’s government when the farmers did the ‘Lebi Movement’ in Uttar Pradesh. Because the MSP rate was low and wheat was being sold in the market at one and a half times the expensive price, at that time Indira Gandhi’s government forcefully harassed the farmers and purchased it at cheap prices. The issue of MSP is the main issue and the government will not rush on it. Its conclusion will come only through meaningful discussion,” Rajkumar Chahar said. (ANI)

Congress' tribal leader Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya

Rajasthan Congress’ Tribal Leader Malviya Joins BJP

In a big blow to the Congress, former Rajasthan Cabinet Minister and Congress’ tribal leader Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya joined the Bhartiya Janata party on Monday ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference, Rajasthan BJP President CP Joshi said, “Today, prominent leader from the tribal region, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, is joining the BJP. Influenced by the policies and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has chosen to become a member of the BJP.”

Joshi highlighted that Malviya himself has stated that significant developmental work has taken place in the tribal areas under the leadership of PM Modi. He also noted the historic achievement of an Adivasi woman becoming the President of the country, citing it as an impact of PM Modi’s policies that has influenced Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya.

Criticizing the grand old party before joining the BJP, Malviya said, “You can see the plight of Congress across the country. The party is being hounded and rendered hollow from within by a select few people. Somewhere, it has drifted from the vision it had for the country and the people. It is not there anymore”.

According to sources, Malviya was not ‘happy’ with the Congress leadership.

Malviya currently represents the Bagidora Assembly seat in the Banswara district.

As a tribal leader from southern Rajasthan where the BJP is considered to have a stronger footing than the Congress, his inclusion can assume significance before the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state.

Malviya first became an MLA in 2008, defeating the Janata Dal (United)’s Jeetmal Khant by 45,000 votes. Despite strong anti-incumbency in 2013, which saw the Congress reduced to just 21 seats, Malviya retained his seat by defeating the BJP’s Khemraj Garasiya. He prevailed over Garasiya again in 2018.

In the 2023 Assembly elections, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya defeated BADVP’s Jaikrishn Patel from the Bagidora Assembly constituency. (ANI)

LS BJP 'White Paper' against Cong-led UPA

BJP To Take ‘White Paper’ Against Cong-Led UPA To Every State

Eye on LS polls, BJP to take ‘White Paper’ against Cong-led UPA to every state

Taking its ‘White Paper’ over the alleged fiscal mismanagement under the Congress-led UPA during its 10-year rule at the Centre, the BJP will present the report in every state, underscoring how the previous ruling coalition allegedly inflicted fiscal woes on the country and indulged in corruption.

Speaking to ANI, a top source in the BJP said the state leaders will take the Centre’s ‘White Paper’ against the Congress-led UPA to the people through press conferences, nukkad sabhas and other forums as the Lok Sabha polls near.

The source added that the BJP has firmed its strategy and electoral roadmap for the high-stakes Lok Sabha polls.

Amid the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday presented a ‘White Paper’ on the state of the national economy during the UPA years in the Lok Sabha.

She will table a motion in the Lower House on Friday, seeking a discussion on the ‘White Paper’, in which the Centre brought a raft of allegations against the previous Congress-ruled coalition at the Centre and accused it of running the Indian economy to the ground.

In its ‘White Paper’, the BJP-led NDA stated that when the BJP-led government came to power in 2014, the economy was in a fragile state, public finances were in bad shape, there was economic mismanagement and financial indiscipline, and there was widespread corruption.

The nearly 60-page ‘White Paper’ stated further that the banking crisis was “one of the most important and infamous legacies of the UPA government”.

Further, the paper mentioned that the current government believed in ‘nation-first’ and not in scoring political points.

“Now that we have stabilised the economy and set it on a recovery and growth path, it is necessary to place in the public domain the seemingly insurmountable challenges – left behind as a legacy by the UPA Government,” the White Paper read.

“Every challenge of the pre-2014 era was overcome through our economic management and our governance. These have placed the country on a resolute path of sustained high growth. This has been possible through our right policies, true intentions, and appropriate decisions,” the document quoted Sitharaman as saying while presenting the interim Union Budget this year.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Parliament that the BJP was well on course to winning at least 370 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and the National Democratic Alliance would sail past the 400 mark. (ANI)

Dynastic Politics, Not Democracy Under Threat: BJP Hits Kharge

Dynastic Politics, Not Democracy Under Threat: BJP Hits Kharge

Launching a strong counterattack over Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday said that the dynastic politics under the garb of democracy now seems towards an eclipse and the true emergence of true democracy is there in the offing.

Kharge on Monday chief claimed that PM Modi will declare a dictatorship after this year’s general elections.

“If Modi comes to power after the Lok Sabha polls, there will be dictatorship, no democracy and no elections,” he said.

Addressing a press conference, BJP’s Trivedi said “Kharge ji, it is true that many things are being discussed in Indian politics. The power of the dynasties ended in 1947, now the power of the democratic dynasties under the garb of democracy is being challenged and they are wondering what their future will be after the upcoming elections.”

“Whatever Mallikarjun Kharge is saying, its real meaning is that those dynastic politics under the garb of democracy which has been discarded by the voter in the last election now seem towards an eclipse and the true emergence of true democracy is there in the offing in which all the youth and all the voters of India are coming together,” he added.

Sudhanshu further mentioned the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and said that the Democracy ended during the Emergency period.

“Those who talk about democracy, then if we talk about Indira Gandhi, the time when democracy actually ended. 3/4th population of India does not know that the tenure of the Lok Sabha was increased from 5 years to 6 years during the Emergency. Fundamental rights were abolished. If someone was put in jail, he could not even apply for the bail,” he said.

The BJP MP also mentioned that if you look from north to south, in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, the enlightened people of the country criticized those who were running a monarchy in the name of democracy based on entitlements. “Be it the Abdullah and Mufti family lost in Kashmir, the Badal family in Punjab, the Hooda family in Haryana, or the biggest leader Rahul Gandhi lost,” Sudhanshu Trivedi said. BJP's Central Election Committee

BJP To Hold ‘Gaao Chalo Abhiyan’ From Feb 4 To 11

With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will hold a ‘Gaao Chalo Abhiyan’ from February 4 to 11.

As part of this campaign, BJP workers will be deputed in districts away from their soil and tasked with spending 24 hours at all the booths across 7 lakh villages and cities.

The party top brass labelled the workers, who are to be deputed to other districts, as ‘pravasi karyakartas’.

These karyakartas would be entrusted with the task of helping the party mine public trust by showcasing the development work of the BJP at the Centre and in states where it is in power.

The efforts that they put in would enable the BJP to deepen its engagement with the people and earn their trust and electoral support ahead of the crucial general elections.

Local party cadre will be tasked with carrying forward several plans of the party that are aimed at reaching out to people beyond their core voters. The party’s top office-bearers will go over the voters’ lists across states and enable people to volunteer as brand ambassadors of a developed India through the ‘NaMo’ app.

They will conduct a review on the basis of votes received by the BJP in previous elections while taking stock of the number of people enlisted across villages and urban areas for central schemes such and include those not covered under them under the party’s Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra.

The party will also engage with local NGOs and self-help groups in this process.

BJP has also come up with some slogans for the Gaon Chalo campaign. These include ‘Ghar-Ghar phochayenge Modi ka Sandesh, Aage badega Gaau, aage badega Desh (Modi’s message will reach every home, the village will progress and will the country).

A special team will be put together for the ‘Gaon Chalo Abhiyan’.

The team will be formed by January 20 and instructions have been passed down by the top brass to get them trained by January 28.

All the states have been asked to set up four-tier groups–state, district, division and village.

As part of this plan, the BJP will put together such groups in every village with a population of 1000. (ANI)

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah

Karnataka To Withdraw Hijab Ban: CM Sidda Says Wear What You Want

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced that his government will withdraw the ban order on the Hijab imposed by BJP and said that no politics should be done on what people prefer to wear and eat.

Karnataka Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas is bogus.

“PM Narendra Modi’s sab ka saath-sab ka vikas is bogus. BJP is doing the work of dividing people and dividing society on the basis of clothes, dress, and caste. I have told to withdraw the hijab ban,” CM Siddaramaiah posted on X.

The previous BJP government in the State had imposed a Hijab ban on students in educational institutions. The matter reached the Karnataka High Court which also upheld the ban imposed by the then BJP government. In this regard, Supreme Court had delivered a split verdict leading to the Karantaka High Court being upheld.

Also while addressing a public rally in Mysuru on Friday, the Karnataka Chief Minister said that this decision will be taken back and women can go out wearing Hijab.

“We will take back that decision, there is no Hijab ban now. Women can go out wearing hijab. I have told the officials to take back the order (previous govt order). Dressing and eating food is our choice, why should I object? Wear whatever dress you want, eat whatever you want, why should I care? We should not do politics to get votes, we don’t do that,” Karnataka CM said.

Reacting to the announcement made by Karnataka Chief Minister, Karnataka BJP said that Siddaramaiah is sowing the poison of religion in the state.

“A uniform policy has been implemented in schools and colleges to ensure that children are equal. This has also been upheld by the Supreme Court. However, the Chief Minister is creating a difference in the minds of the school students regarding the issue of uniforms. Siddaramaiah is going to amend the constitution itself for a vote bank to appease PFI goons and minorities. In the coming days, the people themselves will teach this a lesson,” Karnataka BJP posted on X.

The Hijab row in the State erupted in January 2022 when the Government PU College in Udupi allegedly barred six girls wearing the hijab from entering. Following this, the girls protested outside the college over being denied entry.

Earlier last month, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) restricted all forms of head cover in the exam hall during recruitment exams for various boards and corporations to avoid malpractice.

Though the dress code does not explicitly ban hijab, it is implied by the new guidelines. The order said that this is part of the effort to stop exam malpractices using Bluetooth devices. (ANI)

Opposition-Mukt Lok Sabha, Failure Of Govt: Suspended Members

Suspended members belonging to the INDIA bloc alliance hit out at the BJP-led Centre, terming their suspension as the “ultimate failure” of the government and “anarchy” inside the Parliament while claiming that the ruling government is aiming at an “Opposition-mukt” Lok Sabha.

Forty-nine opposition MPs, including Farooq Abdullah, Supriya Sule, Dimple Yadav and Shashi Tharoor, were on Tuesday suspended from Lok Sabha for the remainder of the winter session, a day after 33 MPs were suspended from the House for “misconduct”.

Reacting to his suspension, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said while speaking to ANI, “…It is clear that they want an Opposition-mukt Lok Sabha and they will do something similar in Rajya Sabha. At this point, unfortunately, we have to start writing obituaries for Parliamentary democracy in India…”

“Today, in solidarity with my colleagues, I too joined the protest and everybody present has been suspended for the rest of the session which means they want to pass their Bills without any discussion. I think it is a betrayal of Parliamentary democracy…”

Reacting to his suspension, Lok Sabha MP Farooq Abdullah said, “Who does the Police come under? What would have happened if he (Union Home Minister) had made a statement in Parliament on the incident (security breach)?”

“This is ultimately the failure of the government,” said Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav on her suspension for the remainder of the winter session of Parliament.

“Those speaking the truth and asking questions have been suspended from the House today. The public is seeing the kind of dirty politics happening in the Parliament,” said Aam Admi Party Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku on his suspension from the House for the remainder of the session.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “It is nothing but anarchy inside the Parliament. They (BJP) do not have an iota of faith in the parliamentary system in our country.”

Lashing out at the ruling BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal told ANI that a new rule is being set for the new Parliament.

“I have no words. What did they think before constructing this new Parliament building? They want to make this the graveyard of democracy…You have thrown out the entire Opposition. No action has been taken against the MP who issued passes (to the security breach accused).”

“A new rule is being set for the new Parliament – have sleeping pills and come here as you are not allowed to open your mouth and ask questions…”, She added.

With 49 Lok Sabha MPs suspended, the total number of opposition parliamentarians suspended from the two Houses has gone up to 141. The winter session will conclude on December 22. (ANI)

CM DK Shivakumar

Belagavi Parading Incident: Dy CM Shivakumar Says All Culprits Arrested

Amid the BJP planning a nationwide protest over the stripping and parading incident at Belagavi, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday said all culprits involved in the incident have been arrested and none will be spared at any cost.

In a shocking incident, a 42-year-old woman in the Belagavi district was stripped, assaulted and paraded after her son allegedly eloped with another woman.

Speaking to ANI on Friday, the deputy chief minister said, “Our government swung into action immediately after learning of the incident. We have arrested all the culprits. The law will take its course and there’s no question of shielding or protecting anyone. The Congress is committed to ensuring women’s safety across the country.”

Earlier, speaking on the incident, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said, “It is an unfortunate incident. A boy, about 24 years old, fell in love with a girl from the same village and the same community and eloped. After learning of the elopement, the girl’s parents ransacked the boy’s house and allegedly took away his mother, disrobed her before tying her to an electric pole.”

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), meanwhile, sent a notice to the state government on Friday over the Belagavi incident.

The commission sought a report from the Congress government within four weeks on the action taken in the case and also decided to send a fact-finding team to the district.

“The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report carried on December 12, 2023, that a 42-year-old woman was stripped, paraded naked, tied to an electric pole and assaulted at Hosa Vantamuri village, Belagavi district, Karnataka, after her son eloped with a girl from the same village,” the panel stated in an official release.

The panel stated that the contents of the news report, if true, do point to a serious violation of the victim’s human rights.

“The purported act, as reported, seems to have a stereotyped patriarchal approach, which is a clear demonstration of the violation of the right to life and dignity of the victim. It is the duty of the state to safeguard vulnerable sections of society, especially women, children, elderly persons and people,” the NHRC stated in the release.

The panel also issued notices to the chief secretary and the state’s director general of police, seeking a detailed report within four weeks.

“It (the report) should include the status of the registration of the FIR, progress in investigation, arrest, if any, compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme, if paid and the steps taken or to be taken to prevent such incidents in the state,” the NHRC stated further in its release.

The panel also asked its DIG, Investigation, to constitute a team to conduct an on-the-spot fact-finding inquiry at the earliest and submit a report within two weeks.

BJP national president JP Nadda also condemned the incident and announced the setting up of a five-member committee to gather facts on the incident.

“BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has strongly condemned the heinous incident of parading a tribal woman naked in Belgavi, Karnataka. Such heinous crimes, especially against women, have been happening at regular intervals ever since the Congress government came to power in Karnataka. This also exposes the irresponsible behaviour of Congress governments everywhere in the country in tackling such crimes,” the party stated in a media release.

Stepping up heat on the Congress government in the state in light of the incident, BJP MPs staged a protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the new Parliament complex.

Earlier, on Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday accused Nadda of resorting to politics over the Belagavi incident.

“BJP’s rule in Karnataka witnessed multiple instances of violence against women, but BJP National President JP Nadda has forgotten this to politically target us. Unfortunately, he is using a recent incident of violence against a woman in Belagavi for politics,” Siddaramaiah posted on X.

“The violence inflicted on a woman and her family members in Belagavi is highly condemnable. It is shameful that BJP President Nadda is exploiting such an incident for political gain,” the CM added. (ANI)
