China Responsible If Any Harm Comes To Me: Nepali Leader

Nepali Congress Parliamentary leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi on Sunday said he felt threatened after China responded aggressively to a report by his team, which showed that the communist nation had encroached on Nepal’s land in Humla.

“I want to reiterate that China will be responsible if anything unfortunate happens to me,” Shahi said in an interview on Khabarhub.

Though Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-government had denied the allegations, last month, Shahi, leader of opposition in Karnali Province, had said China had erected a pillar and the government officials had said they were not consulted about such issues.

“The Junge Pillar 12 has been recently erected by China. The government officials say they have not been consulted about such issues. The Pillars 5.1 and 6.1 have been enclosed as there are Chinese security forces,” he said.

After Shahi’s briefing to the press and submission of the report to the government, China has not only protested it as biased, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu responded to it aggressively by writing a letter to the Nepali Congress party.

The Nepal opposition leader in his interview stated that China’s response could jeopardise Nepali Congress’ relationship with China as well as negatively impact the Nepal-China relationship, while terming the letter sent by the Chinese Embassy as ‘undiplomatic’.

“The language used in the Embassy’s letter looks like a threat and it seems to undermine my position and personality,” he told Khabarhub.

He mentioned that China had constructed nine buildings in Lolungjong, Hilsa, which remained in Nepali territory, as Nepal had built a road 2 km from Lolungjong in 2009.

China had also arranged to make the Chinese time appear in Nepali territory, which was 4 km from Nepal-China border. As the area shows the Chinese time zone, Nepali choppers cannot fly to their own area.

“The Chinese officials had come to the steep sides at Gappudocha and had confessed China’s land does not reach up to the point we were constructing the road then. The road lies 2 km west-north from the place China has constructed the buildings now,” he said.

He further stated that while the Nepal government said the land was not encroached, when his team reached the site, they saw the border is encroached, as the buildings constructed in Lolungjong could be seen from Pillar 12 in the hills of Limi Lapcha.

“While observing through GPS at the pillar, we find it arranged in such a way that two kilometers inward Nepal is depicted as a Chinese area. It should have shown China on the next side of the pillar and Nepal on another side of it, but it is not so there,” Shahi said in his interview with Khabarhub.

Criticising the Nepal government’s silence over the report, Shahi lamented that the government has expressed its loyalty to China by not claiming Nepal’s land, and even government officials who have been there are reluctant to speak about it.

“We have submitted the letter of public concern requesting the government to send a team of experts to talk with China. We submitted it to Prime Minister KP Oli, but we have not got any response to date,” he said.

The parliamentary leader also said he will resign from his post if his findings are proven wrong, and challenged China to provide evidence that it had not encroached Nepal’s land.

Shahi appealed that Nepali Congress should express concern over the matter through the Chinese Ambassador in Kathmandu. (ANI)

China’s Indoctrination Of Uyghur Like Holocaust: Activist

Uyghurs in China are indoctrinated 24-hours a day in communist ideology and Chinese culture, and the next generation will lose the Uyghur language, said Abduweli Ayup, an Uyghur activist, poet and linguist, in an interview with The Post Millennial.

Calling the Chinese policy towards Uyghurs equivalent to the ‘Holocaust’, Ayup stated that there were no Uyghur kindergartens in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, where thousands of Uyghur Muslims have been detained in re-education camps.

While speaking on the indoctrination process done by China, he said that they would force people to sing Chinese patriotic songs to praise the Communist Party, the People’s Liberation Army, Mao Zedong and other leaders. It was not patriotism, but rather praising the Chinese culture. The indoctrination part also taught that Han Chinese are the teachers, elder brothers and the Uyghurs were the students, younger brothers.

Uyghurs are forcefully made to write praise for the Communist Party and learn that the country did not have any cars, electricity, railways and other basic facilities before the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Speaking out against the harsh treatment of Uyghurs in China, Ayup told The Post Millennial: “Jewish people under Nazi detention were still often able to communicate in their language [Yiddish], because the Nazis did not have technology which allowed them to hear them speak amongst each other all day every day. They did not have cameras spying on the Jews at all time. Younger Jews were also mixed in detention with adults. For Uyghurs, adults are in concentration camps while kids are in boarding schools, so there is no opportunity to keep and spread information between generations…Uyghur adults are separated from the children and are unable to do so.”

Citing a German news broadcast, he said that nearly 900,000 Uyghur kids are separated from their families, which means that China is suppressing their roots and their culture, and the birth rate among Uyghurs has plummetted in the last three years.

Speaking on the importance of the Uyghur language, he stated that the Uyghur language helped in connecting the people from Hotan and Kashgar, and without the language, there would be no education system to continue the culture, and without education, the Uyghur language will become a family language before disappearing entirely.

Ayup mentioned that Kashgar, the cultural capital of the Uyghurs, was the most targeting city, as out of 4,577 documented victim stories, looking at missing family members and people who have been arrested or sentenced, 34 per cent belonged from Kashgar.

He also claimed that children were being forced to speak Mandarin, and since most of them did not speak the Chinese language, the kids do not even smile or speak much because they have to speak in a language which was not their own, which led him to open an Uyghur kindergarten of his own.

“They have a book of Chinese poetry from the Tang dynasty. It is a very famous book. Even in China, most people cannot understand it because it is written in a more ancient Chinese dialect. Uyghur kids, however, are forced to memorise these texts from thousands of years ago,” Ayup told The Post Millennial.

Ayup was jailed in China for defying the CCP’s cultural genocide of the Uyghur people by opening a kindergarten to teach Uyghur language and culture to children.

“When I grew up in Kashgar before I came to Urumqi in 1992, we had Uyghur kindergartens. I studied at a university with an Uyghur kindergarten in front of it. Ten years later, there was no Uyghur kindergarten anymore, and it makes me very sad. You see your culture in crisis, we are in crisis, and we should be taking action to protect this language,” he said during his interview with The Post Millennial.

Arrested in August 2013 along with some members of his company, Ayup said that the Chinese authorities wanted them to confess that they had led separatist activities, and that Ayup himself was accused of being an American spy sent here to instigating problems, and that he was involved in sending state secrets to foreign news companies.

Ayup was interrogated for almost six months, while under Chinese law, the process of interrogation should have been completed under 30 days. During the process, he was physically assaulted and electroshocked. In 2014, he was charged with illegal fundraising and forced to accept the crime. However, as there was no evidence to support the charge, he was instead charged with illegally owned public savings. He accepted the charges and was released after 15 months. However, since then, Ayup has been arrested three times before moving out of China.

Speaking on the conditions of the detention centres, he said that prisoners are trapped in a 20 square metres cell, where there is no sunshine and hygiene, and the place was very smelly and lacked fresh air.

“There is no Uyghur course, many Uyghur kids do not have Uyghur families, 900,000 kids do not have families, it feels very hopeless and heartbreaking,” he further said.

He also reiterated that foreign governments could play a huge role in stopping the cultural genocide of Uyghurs in China by cutting their production chains with the country, instead of simply criticising its policies.

Classified documents known as the China Cables, accessed last year by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, threw light on how the Chinese government uses technology to control Uyghur Muslims worldwide.

However, China regularly denies such mistreatment and says the camps provide vocational training. People in the internment camps have described being subjected to forced political indoctrination, torture, beatings, and denial of food and medicine, and say they have been prohibited from practising their religion or speaking their language. The Amended Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act

‘FCRA Spells Doom For Grassroots NGOs, Workers’

The NDA government, in September 2020, notified the amended Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act which disallows disallows re-granting of FCRA funds to another FCRA-compliant organization. Civil society organisations told LokMarg that this would cripple small, grassroots NGOs who depend on re-granting of funds from larger NGOs for survival and work.

Rajeev Kumar, Convener, RTE Manch, says the legal motive to bring transparency into grants and re-grant is a weak ploy as all these transactions happen via bank accounts, in full view of government agencies.

Sajida Khanam of Initiative For Social Upliftment, an NGO, rues that there were no debate or dialogue with the affected parties before bringing in such an important law. The new provisions have rendered majority of workers in her organization jobless.

Ramesh Paswan, of NGO Jansandesh, says the NGOs were already reeling under fund crunch and other issues when the new law has completely crippled their social work. The bigger NGOs have withdrawn their commitments impacting the grassroots organistions.

Vijayvargiya Defends Law Against ‘Love Jihad’

Slamming Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for his statement on the love jihad law, National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kailash Vijayvargiya on Sunday said that that law was targeted at inter-religion marriages with the intention or conspiracy to convert religion.

“We need to understand the definition of it (love jihad). The law is being made against the conspiracy behind the inter-religion marriages. Love is Sanatan and effortless; it does not see religion or a caste. But if someone loves and marries another person with a plan or intention to convert their religion, this law is from them,” said the BJP leader at a press conference in Indore.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday had slammed the BJP-led states and said that whether inter-religion marriages of family members of BJP leaders will fall under the definition of ‘love jihad’?

The statement comes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recently announced that his government will bring a strict law to curb “love jihad” and forcible religious conversion. Prior to this, Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh had said the state would soon have a law against ‘love jihad’.

Karnataka has also formulated a strict law against ‘Love Jihad’.

The Union Home Ministry on February 4 this year has clarified that the term ‘love jihad’ is not defined under the existing laws and no such case has been reported so far. No such case has been reported by any of the central agencies yet.
