Former Congress President and son Rahul Gandhi is expected to accompany her during the visit which will be finalised by Friday evening.

Nagrota: ‘Major Attack’ Was Planned On 26/11 Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and top intelligence establishment over the Nagrota encounter in which four terrorists were neutralised, government sources said.

It was found that the terrorists were planning a “major attack” on the anniversary of the 26/11 terror attack, they added.

Mumbai had come under attack on November 26, 2008, when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists targeted the city in a series of coordinated shootings and bombings that injured over 300 and claimed the lives of 166 people in India’s financial capital.

On Thursday, the encounter between terrorists and security forces broke out in the early hours near Ban Toll Plaza in the Nagrota area of Jammu district. The encounter lasted for three hours in which four terrorists were eliminated.

According to sources, the four terrorists are likely from the United Nations-designated terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). “These terrorists used old modus operandi and had recently infiltrated the Indian side. An investigation is underway,” they added.

Mukesh Singh, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone had said that it was possible terrorists were planning a “big attack” and targeting the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections in the Union Territory.

The DDC elections will be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir in eight phases between November 28 and December 19, and the counting of votes will take place on December 22.

The IG, Jammu Zone also informed that the kind of seizure from the encounter site is “unprecedented”. “It’s possible that they were planning a big attack. This kind of seizure is unprecedented. It is possible that they were targeting the DDC election. However, we are investigating,” Singh said.

The encounter broke out after a truck was intercepted at 5 am on Thursday during a routine check.

“During the search, CRPF soldiers and police were fired upon using heavy ammunition, and grenades were also lobbed. More forces were called in and the encounter went on for 3 hours,” the IG said. (ANI)

CBI Has Become Centre’s ‘Paan Shop’: M’rashtra Minister

Welcoming the Supreme Court’s ruling that the state government’s nod is mandatory for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe in its jurisdiction, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aslam Shaikh said that the central investigating agency has become a ‘paan shop’ under the BJP government.

“Under the BJP government, the CBI has become like a ‘paan patti ki dukaan‘ (‘paan shop’). It goes anywhere and books anyone, particularly in non-BJP ruled states. It took action against chief ministers and ministers. We welcome the court’s ruling,” Shaikh told ANI.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court held that the consent of the state government is mandatory for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in its jurisdiction and the Central government cannot extend the agency’s jurisdiction to any state without permission of states.

While deciding petitions by the accused in a corruption case in Uttar Pradesh, a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar said the investigation cannot be conducted without states’ nod.

The observation of the Apex Court becomes significant as recently the state governments of Punjab, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh withdrew their “general consent” to the CBI probe in their states. (ANI)

42nd MS Dhoni Bday

Long Hair Suits John Abraham, Not Dhoni: Sakshi

When Mahendra Singh Dhoni burst onto international cricket scene in 2004 he had long hair but the former Indian skipper’s wife Sakshi has revealed she was strictly against his ‘orange hair colour’ look.

Dhoni had made his ODI debut in 2004 and since then, he changed the face of Indian cricket with his calm demeanour, sharp understanding of the game, and astute leadership qualities and soon became a household name.

The former skipper was also praised by the then Pakistan president Parvez Musharraf for his long hair. However, wife Sakshi, who celebrated her 32nd birthday on Thursday, feels that the long hairstyle suited more on Bollywood actor John Abraham and not on Dhoni.

“Luckily I didn’t see him with that long hair. If I had met him when he had that orange long hair I wouldn’t even have looked at him,” Sakshi said in a video posted by IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.

“There has to be aesthetics. It suited on John but Mahi with long hair and orange colour on top was like…(Sakshi rolls her eyes),” she added.

Dhoni tied the knot with Sakshi on July 4, 2010, a year before he led India to the World Cup title.

The former Indian skipper is among the most successful captains in world cricket. It was under his leadership that India lifted the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 after having led India to triumph in the ICC World T20 in its maiden edition of the tournament held in 2007 in South Africa.

With India winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 in England, Dhoni became the first and is still the only captain to date to have won all three ICC Trophies.

While his heroics in the limited-overs formats are well documented, it was also under his leadership that India became the number one Test side in 2009 and the team stayed at the top for over 600 days. (ANI)
