US Boycott Of Beijing Olympics Over Uyghurs Earns Muslim Goodwill

The decision by the United States to boycott the Beijing Olympics in February 2022 in the wake of the genocide and inhumane treatment of Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province is a fair response in all respects because the humiliation, torture, and suffering of 1 million Uyghur Muslims in the reformatory camps in Xinjiang is unbearable and indescribable, reported Pakistan Vernacular media.

The international human rights watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW) has also confirmed that Uyghur Muslims face severe restrictions and violence to renounce their religion Islam.

“China is Islamabad’s trusted ally. There is complete understanding and cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing on important international issues including Kashmir, Taiwan, and Palestine,” said the vernacular media.

Pakistan-China friendship is a proud golden chapter in the history of both countries. However, it must be remembered that Muslims are one Ummah. In the same way, we will continue to demand the protection of the religious and human rights of Uyghur Muslims, said Pakistan’s vernacular media.

China must in its own interest not only liberate the Muslims inside the Xinjiang province from concentration camps but also restore religious freedom, including their civil rights.

Otherwise, the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party should understand that the US will be able to win the support of the Muslim public against China with regard to Uyghur Muslims.

We are well aware that the US is using the issue of Uyghur Muslims as a political weapon against China. However, the Islamic world is also feeling that whatever the hidden motives of the US, there is no denying the fact that the way in which the US is exposing the suffering of the Uighur Muslims on a global scale is not a lie or propaganda, the vernacular media said.

Rather, it is a complete and unequivocal truth on which the American position will and should be appreciated and encouraged. We hope that the Beijing administration will immediately reverse the unjust and cruel measures taken against Islam and Muslims in Xinjiang province, Pakistan vernacular media added. (ANI)

PM Security Breach: Tikait Calls It Drama To Gain Sympathy

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed event at Ferozepur in Punjab on Wednesday had to be cancelled owing to security lapse, national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Rakesh Tikait said that it was an attempt by the Centre to find a cheap way to gain public sympathy.

Speaking to ANI in this regard, Tikait said, “When the Prime Minister was coming to Punjab, what arrangements did he make regarding security? The news about him saying that he survived makes it clear that it was a stunt. It was an attempt to find a cheap way to gain public sympathy.”

The farmer leader further said that the Prime Minister should not have opted to go to Punjab.

“Central Government says that there was a security lapse and the Punjab Government says that Prime Minister did not go there because chairs in his rally were empty. Both are only trying to defend themselves. The Prime Minister should not have gone there,” Tikait said.

Regarding the cancelled event of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ferozepur in Punjab, Tikait on Wednesday said one needs to investigate whether there was a security lapse or the farmers were expressing their anger.

“There is talk about rally being cancelled due to lapse in the security of PM Modi ji. On the other hand, the Chief Minister of Punjab is claiming the PM returned witnessing empty chairs. Now it is necessary to investigate whether there is a lapse in the security or the farmers were expressing their anger,” Tikait said in a tweet in Hindi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed event at Ferozepur in Punjab had to be cancelled owing to a ‘security lapse’, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement today.

The ministry has sought a detailed report from the State government, fix responsibility for the lapse and take strict action.

PM Modi was scheduled to visit Ferozepur on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 42,750 crore.

The Home Ministry said in a statement that PM Modi landed at Bathinda on Wednesday morning from where he was to go to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter.

Due to rain and poor visibility, the Prime Minister waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear out.

The statement said that when the weather did not improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Marytrs Memorial via road, which would take more than two hours. The Prime Minister proceeded to travel by road after necessary confirmation of necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police.

Around 30 kms away from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the Prime Minister’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that the road was blocked by some protestors.

The Prime Minister was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes.

“This was a major lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister’s schedule and travel plan was communicated well in advance to the Punjab Government. As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready,” the statement said

“Also in view of the contingency plan the Punjab Government has to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which were clearly not deployed. After this security lapse, it was decided to head back to Bathinda Airport,” it added.

Government sources said what was witnessed on the flyover was “a surprising scene of connivance between Punjab police and so-called protestors”.

They said only Punjab police knew the precise route of the PM and “never has such police behaviour been witnessed”. (ANI)

Punjab Govt Draws Criticism Over PM Security Breach

Holding the Charanjit Singh Channi government responsible for the security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, that eventually led to the cancellation of all his programmes on Wednesday, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has demanded dismissal of the government and imposition of President’s rule in the state.

In a statement issued here today, the former Chief Minister said, “This government has lost all the moral and constitutional authority to continue in office as it failed in its constitutional duty to provide security to our Prime Minister”.
He said, by trying to deflect the issue and claim that it was a spontaneous protest by some people that blocked the Prime Minister’s route, the government was trying to defend the indefensible and run away from responsibility.

“If the Prime Minister of the country has to cancel all his programmes owing to a grave security breach, what should be the plight of the ordinary person living in Punjab?” the former Chief Minister asked, while asserting that sooner this government was dismissed better it would be for the state and its people.

Captain Amarinder Singh said, it was a deliberate mischief of the government to disrupt the Prime Minister’s programmes in Punjab, as he was to start various development projects to the tune of more than Rs 50,000 crores, which would benefit the people of the state.

The former Chief Minister regretted that this government had stooped so low that it orchestrated disruption of the rally and did not provide proper security to the Prime Minister and he had to cancel his programmes. “Just because he belongs to the opposition party does not mean that you disrupt his programmes. After all he is the Prime Minister of the entire country”, Capt Amarinder told the Chief Minister, while adding, “what happened today was shameful and disgraceful and the government and the Chief Minister cannot escape the responsibility for it”.

PM Modi was scheduled to visit Ferozepur on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 42,750 crore.

Chinese Phonemaker Xiaomi Evaded ₹653 cr Tax: Govt

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi evaded custom duty to the tune of Rs 653 crore in India, Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.

Based upon an intelligence that M/s Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited (Xiaomi India) was evading customs duty by way of undervaluation, an investigation was initiated by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) against Xiaomi India and its contract manufacturers.

“After completion of the investigation by the DRI, three show cause notices have been issued to M/s Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited for demand and recovery of duty amounting to Rs 653 crore for the period 01.04.2017 to 30.06.2020, under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962,” Finance Ministry said in a statement.

During the investigation, searches were conducted by the DRI at the premises of Xiaomi India, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents indicating that Xiaomi India was remitting royalty and licence fee to Qualcomm USA and to Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd., under contractual obligation.

“Statements of key persons of Xiaomi India and its contract manufactures were recorded, during which one of the directors of Xiaomi India confirmed the said payments,” the Finance Ministry said.

During the investigations, it further emerged that the “royalty and licence fee” paid by Xiaomi India to Qualcomm USA and to Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd., China (related party of Xiaomi India) were not being added in the transaction value of the goods imported by Xiaomi India and its contract manufacturers, it added.

The investigations conducted by the DRI further showed that Xiaomi India is engaged in the sale of MI brand mobile phones and these mobile phones are either imported by Xiaomi India or assembled in India by importing parts and components of mobile phones by contract manufacturers of Xiaomi India.

The MI brand mobile phones manufactured by the contract manufacturers are sold exclusively to Xiaomi India, in terms of the contract agreement.

Evidence gathered during the investigations by the DRI indicated that neither Xiaomi India nor its contract manufactures were including the amount of royalty paid by Xiaomi India in the assessable value of the goods imported by Xiaomi India and its contract manufacturers, which is in violation of Section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962 and Customs valuation (determination of value of imported goods) Rules 2007.

By not adding “royalty and licence fee” into the transaction value, Xiaomi India was evading Customs duty being the beneficial owner of such imported mobile phones, the parts and components thereof, the Finance Ministry said. (ANI)
