Read Aurobindo To Understand Soul Of India: Shah

Underlining that culture is common thread binding all corners of the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that one has to listen and read Indian poet and philosopher Sri Aurobindo to understand the soul of India.

Addressing a programme to mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Aurobindo in Puducherry, Shah said while other countries of the world as formed on the basis of resolutions, India is a country that is formed “on the basis of culture”.

“Whatever Sri Aurobindo wrote or said, if we have to summarise it in one sentence, then I just made a sentence sitting on the stage. If we have to understand India, not geographically, but spiritually, then Sri Aurobindo needs to be studied and listened to. Without studying Veda, Upanishad, Gita, and various epics, if we study Sri Aurobindo well, we will be introduced to the soul of India. He lived such a kind of life,” Shah said.

“If we understand his message, he gave a different description of India. All the geopolitical countries in the world are formed with resolutions, be it Europe, America, the Soviet Union, or China. There is only one country in the world which is geo-culture and is formed on the basis of culture, and that country is India,” he said.

Shah suggested looking at India as a geo-culture country to “solve the problems of today” and said that all corners of the country are “somewhere bound by one culture”.

“If we start looking at India as a geo-culture country, then all the problems of today will be solved on its own. We are somewhere united by one culture from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Dwarka to Bengal,” he said.

“The Constitution holds a very important place on its own place and is respectable for all, on the basis of which country should run. But if there is a bonding, then it is the culture that is soul of India. You would come to know this when you read Sri Aurobindo,” Shah added.

Elaborating on the life of Indian poet and philosopher Sri Aurobindo, the Home Minister said that he worked to provide new energy and direction to the ancient consciousness of India.

“Sri Aurobindo worked to provide new energy, speed and direction to the river of ancient consciousness of Indian culture. He did it at a time when there was darkness all around with no ray of hope under British rule,” he said.

Highlighting the purpose of the celebration of Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary, the Home Minister sought to propagate the teachings and thoughts of the philosopher to the new generation and wake up their curiosity about the Indian poet.

“Unless we propagate his thoughts to the new generation, the purpose of the celebration of his 150th anniversary cannot be fulfilled. I have come from Gujarat. Sri Aurobindo has had a deep relationship with the state. Many Gujaratis, inspired by his life’s message, have adopted it in their lives,” he said.

The Home Minister further stated that the Centre is striving to make India of Sri Aurobindo’s dream in the 75th year of independence.

Earlier, the Home Minister visited Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry and paid tributes to the philosopher.

“Visited Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry. Sri Aurobindo was a great intellectual and spiritual giant. He made lasting contributions to India’s freedom struggle. Sri Aurobindo’s works and thoughts remain relevant for all and he continues to be our guiding light. My tributes,” Shah tweeted. (ANI)

Why Some Women Lose Appetite During Pregnancy

While pregnant women often crave different foods, some can feel a lack of desire to eat food. According to a new study by Monash University, researchers have revealed the hidden issues and developed recommendations and principles for multidisciplinary management of anorexia nervosa in pregnancy.

The findings of the study were published in the journal, ‘The Lancet Psychiatry’. The findings include a focus on the specialist mental health, obstetric, medical, and nutritional care required to ensure optimal outcomes for women and their infants.

Pregnant women with anorexia are at greater risk of having a stillbirth, underweight baby or pre-term birth, yet there are no clear guidelines for how doctors should manage the condition. Anorexia nervosa has an increased prevalence in women across childbearing years, with up to one in 200 pregnant women with the condition. It is typically associated with restricting or binging and purging behaviours, or both.

Professor Galbally says there is a paucity of studies and clinical advice on managing pregnant women with anorexia. “Unlike mood disorders and anxiety and psychotic disorders, little guidance and research are available for anorexia nervosa in pregnancy. Perinatal mental health guidelines, including those in the UK and Australia, provide only limited or no mention of the assessment and management of eating disorders in pregnancy,” she said.

“Assessment measures used outside of pregnancy, such as the Eating Disorder Inventory, or the reliance on body mass index, have been shown to have limited validity in pregnancy,” she added.”Clearly, the assessment and monitoring of measures and tools for anorexia nervosa require modification in the context of pregnancy.” Research into managing the health of pregnant women, in general, has highlighted the importance of maternal antenatal nutrition, pregnancy weight gain, and the infant’s birth weight as critical risk factors and vital intervention points for improving lifelong health including for areas such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

According to the study authors, anorexia nervosa might affect obstetric and neonatal outcomes through the low-calorie intake, nutritional and vitamin deficiencies, stress, fasting, low body mass, and problems with the function of the placenta. Additionally, risks from untreated or undertreated anorexia nervosa in pregnancy include psychological and psychosocial risks, including perinatal depression and anxiety.

For women with anorexia nervosa, there is an increase in reported obstetric complications. A 2020 study from Canada reported that women with anorexia nervosa in pregnancy had 1.32 times the risk of pre-term birth, 1.69 times the adjusted risk of a baby with low birth weight, and 1.99 times the adjusted risk of stillbirth compared with women without anorexia nervosa in pregnancy.

“The management of anorexia nervosa requires a multidisciplinary team approach with expertise across mental health, specialist medical care, and dietetics at a minimum; in pregnancy, key experts include obstetricians (particularly experts who manage high-risk pregnancies), physicians with pregnancy expertise, dieticians who also have expertise in pregnancy nutrition requirements, paediatricians, and mental health clinicians with perinatal expertise,” the authors recommended.

“Although many of the principles developed for the management of anorexia nervosa in adults are applicable in pregnancy, they require expert modification and adaptation to the substantial physiological, psychological, and social changes in pregnancy, and foetal growth and wellbeing should also be taken into consideration,” the authors concluded. Beijing On Alert After Fresh Surge In Covid Cases

China’s capital city Beijing is on high COVID-19 alert after the city recorded 21 new community cases in the last 24 hours on Sunday.

Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing municipal disease prevention and control center had said that undetected local transmissions started in the city about a week ago, and involved schools, tour groups and families.

“There were hidden transmissions for a week and the infected people came from different backgrounds and a wide range of activities,” Pang said on April 22.

“Beijing reported 21 positive COVID-19 infections from 4 pm on Saturday to 4 pm on Sunday, including 16 confirmed cases and five silent carriers across five districts,” Global Times reported today.

On Monday, the Beijing municipal government issued a notice encouraging local residents to avoid travel and stay put during the holidays, as the travel rush could increase the risk of accelerating virus transmission, as per Global Times.

China has been witnessing surges in its big cities in the past few months including Shanghai, where residents have been in lockdown for four weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The country’s financial hub, Shanghai, has been facing the worst COVID-19 outbreak and has been desperately seeking medical care and basic supplies like food.

Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland reported 1,566 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, of which 1,401 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission’s report Sunday.

Shanghai authorities have imposed draconian lockdown measures since March that have locked 25 million residents in their homes. On April 3, the Chinese government announced the deployment of thousands of military personnel to Shanghai to assist in the mandatory testing of all 25 million residents for the virus that causes COVID-19.

Meanwhile, horrifying videos have emerged showing Shanghai residents screaming from their windows over strict COVID lockdown measures that prevent them from leaving home even for food.

In a clip posted online by a Twitter user that he said was taken by the father of his close friend who reported that “people (are) screaming outside of their windows after a week of total lockdown” because they “can’t even step outside their apartments”. Many screams can be heard from the windows of nearby apartment buildings in the footage, as per news.com.au.

China’s much-publicised ‘zero-covid’ strategy that the government credited for bringing the country out of the pandemic till recently is falling apart as the rapidly mounting cases are again forcing mass lockdowns like those seen in 2020. (ANI)
