Ranbir Shares His Daal-Chawal Moment With Alia On Kareena’s Show

Who could make Ranbir Kapoor spill the secrets? No guesses, it could only be someone from his family!

Kareena Kapoor Khan took to Instagram to drop a teaser from the upcoming episode of her show ‘What Women Want’. Ranbir Kapoor will come as the guest on the show.
In the teaser, Kareena asked Ranbir, “When did you feel with Alia Bhatt that, this is the daal-chawal moment?”

“I’d like to consider myself a good husband”, quipped Ranbir.

For the unversed, ‘daal-chawal’ is the famous dialogue from Ranbir Kapoor’s bumper hit movie ‘Ye Jawani Hai Diwani.”

Kareena also asked Ranbir about the notion that actresses should not be taller than actors. “The three khans are not so tall,” Ranbir swept the ball out of the park.

It seems from the teaser, that it will be a fun banter between two Kapoor cousins.

On the acting front, Ranbir’s movie ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ has opened with a good start. The film marked the first on-screen collaboration between Ranbir and Shraddha. A few days back, Ranbir even visited a hall in Mumbai to check the audience’s reactions.

Apart from this, the ‘Besharam’ actor will also be seen in director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming action thriller film ‘Animal’ alongside Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Bobby Deol. (ANI)

Shares Of US Regional Banks Plummet By 75%

Shares Of US Regional Banks Plummet By 75%

The stocks of US regional banks plummeted on Monday, as investors reassessed how much such lenders were worth following the sudden collapse of Signature Bank and Silicon Valley Bank, New York Times reported.

The volatile conditions led to trading in roughly a dozen banks being halted after triggering so-called circuit breakers, which are meant in part to prevent runaway crashes, it reported.
Arizona-based Western Alliance stood out as the worst mover on the day, down 80 per cent in early trading. First Republic Bank tumbled 75 per cent, Utah-based Zions Bancorp fell around 20 per cent, Comerica tumbled about 30 per cent, East West Bancorp fell 30 per cent and Regions Financial, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., was down around 10 per cent, New York Times reported.

Shares of bigger banks were less affected, but not immune. Citigroup and Wells Fargo fell over 4 per cent, Bank of America fell over 3 per cent, and JPMorgan Chase dipped by around 1 per cent. The KBW bank index, which tracks the performance of 24 major banks, fell 10 per cent, adding to sharp losses last week that erased nearly USD 200 billion from the aggregate value of the banks in the index, New York Times reported.

The leading American daily stated that the broader S&P 500 stock index shrugged off the worst of the pain in the banking sector, which is one of the smaller sectors of the index and therefore has less impact on the overall market. The S&P 500 rose slightly by late morning.

The crisis in the banking sector also prompted a swift re-evaluation of the number of times the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates, as fears over the resilience of the economy are expected to stay the central bank’s hand, the publication reported.

That led to US government debt markets experiencing their biggest moves since Black Monday in 1987, which was one of the most severe market crashes on record. The two-year Treasury yield, sensitive to changes in interest rate expectations, fell 0.54 percentage points in morning trading, to just above 4 per cent, its biggest one-day drop since October 1987, New York Times reported.

That might not sound like a lot, but the yield normally moves in tiny fractions of a percentage point each day, and only topped 5 per cent last week for the first time since mid-2007. The move on Monday recalled the biggest moves around the fall of Lehman Brothers and the tech crash of the early 2000s.

Having ramped up bets that the Fed would raise interest rates by as much as a full percentage point in the coming months, investors are now doubting whether the Fed would be that aggressive, New York Times reported.

The Fed has used higher rates to slow the economy and lower inflation, which is also at the root of the pain being felt in the banking sector. Goldman Sachs said it believes the Fed would no longer raise interest rates at its meeting next week.

Investors’ expectations for where the Fed will set interest rates by June have fallen from 5.5 per cent last week to 4.7 per cent on Monday. In line with the slump in interest rates, the dollar fell 0.9 per cent against a basket of currencies of America’s major trading partners. (ANI)

Akhilesh Takes Jibe At Yogi Over 25,000 Illegal Constructions In Varanasi

Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched another attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that 25,000 illegal constructions have taken place in the VVIP parliamentary constituency of Varanasi under its rule.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Yadav said, “Under the BJP government, 25,000 illegal constructions have taken place in the VVIP parliamentary constituency of Banaras, in which most of the BJP patrons are involved.”
He further asked the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take a stern action against the accused involved.

“Sir, now when the matter has come to light, then at least take ostentatious action against the BJP people under compulsion or is there no oil in the bulldozer?” Akhilesh said.

Earlier, on Sunday tweeted a video of an IPS officer demanding money from a businessman on Sunday and attacked the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh asking it whether it will take “bulldozer” action against the officer.

“After this video of an IPS demanding money in UP, will the direction of bulldozers change towards him or will the BJP government get rid of the matter by adding one more name to the list of absconding IPS? The people of UP are seeing the reality of BJP’s zero-tolerance towards crime,” Yadav tweeted along with the video.

Responding to Yadav’s tweet, the Meerut Police said that the video was over 2 years old and does not have any connection with Meerut as the purported video has been stated to be of the time when Singh was posted in Meerut district.

“Probe has been completed in the matter,” said in a tweet while responding to Yadav’s tweet. (ANI)

SC Refers Petitions Seeking Legal Recognition Of Same-Sex Marriage To Constitution Bench

The Supreme Court on Monday referred various petitions seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage to the Constitution Bench.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud listed the petitions seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage to a five-judge bench constitution bench and said that the hearing will take place on April 18.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Centre, says the right to love, expression and freedom of choice is already upheld and no one is interfering with that right but doesn’t mean conferring the right of marriage.

SG Mehta argued that the moment marriage as a recognized institution comes between the same sex, the question will come on adoption and therefore parliament will have to see on the issue of the psychology of the child, which has to be examined whether it can be raised in such a way. He further said that the parliament will have to debate and take a call on whether in view of ethos.

However, the court remarked adopted child of a gay or lesbian couple does not have to be gay or a lesbian.

SG Mehta said that this is a matter having grave ramifications.

When the bench was apprised that the Centre has filed an affidavit, CJI DY Chandrachud remarked Centre is saying it is in the legislative domain

Senior Advocate NK Kaul said that controversy is narrowed down and they can show that either the statute can be harmoniously construed or in light of Navtej Singh, it has to be recognised

Senior Advocate KV Vishwanathan apprised the SC that the transgender protection act exists even though the centre stated that it doesn’t recognise such a union.

The court was hearing a batch of petitions pertaining to the issue of same-sex marriage, which had challenged the denial of access to the institution of marriage to the members of the LGBTQ+ community as being in contravention of Part III of the Constitution, including Articles 14,15,19 and 21.

The Senior counsel appearing for the Petitioners submitted that the petitions pertained to issues of fundamental rights.

Centre has opposed the prayers in the petition on the ground that such questions ought to be left to the legislature which is representative of the will of the people.

The Bench was pleased to fix a schedule for hearing for this batch of petitions and directed that the matter be placed before a Hon’ble Constitution Bench pursuant to Article 145(3) of the Constitution.

One of the petitions was represented by Senior Advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Saurabh Kirpal briefed by a team of advocates from Karanjawala and Co.

Earlier, Centre, in its affidavit, had opposed the plea seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage, saying that living together as partners by same-sex individuals, which is decriminalised now, is not comparable with the Indian family unit and they are clearly distinct classes which cannot be treated identically.

The Centre filed the affidavit countering the demand made by various petitioners seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage.

In the affidavit, Centre opposed the plea and said that pleas seeking legal recognition of same-sex ought to be dismissed as there exists no merit in these petitions.

Same-sex relationships and heterosexual relationships are clearly distinct classes which cannot be treated identically, the government said as its stand against the petition seeking legal recognition of LGBTQ marriage.

It is for the legislature to judge and enforce such societal morality and public acceptance based upon Indian ethos, the Centre said in its affidavit and added that western decisions sans any basis in Indian constitutional law jurisprudence, cannot be imported in this context.

In the affidavit, Centre apprised the Supreme Court that living together as partners by same-sex individuals, which is decriminalised now, is not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of a husband, a wife and children.

Centre submitted that the principles of legitimate state interest as an exception to life and liberty under Article 21 would apply to the present case. Centre submitted that the statutory recognition of marriage as a union between a “man” and a “woman” is intrinsically linked to the recognition of the heterogeneous institution of marriage and the acceptance of the Indian society based upon its own cultural and societal values which are recognized by the competent legislature.

“There is an intelligible differentia (normative basis) which distinguishes those within the classification (heterosexual couples) from those left out (same-sex couples). This classification has a rational relation with the object sought to be achieved (ensuring social stability via recognition of marriages),” the government said.

Centre submitted before the Supreme Court that statutory recognition of marriage as a union between a “man” and a “woman” is intrinsically linked to the recognition of the heterogeneous institution of marriage and the acceptance of the Indian society based upon its own cultural and societal values which are recognized by the competent legislature. Putin May Attend G20 Summit In India: Kremlin

Putin May Attend G20 Summit In India: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin may attend the G20 summit in India later this year, but no decision has yet been made, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

“It cannot be ruled out,” the Kremlin spokesman said when asked if Putin’s participation in the summit in India was being considered. “But no decision has been made yet,” Peskov clarified, Russian news agency TASS reported.
The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in India in September.

When asked if Putin’s participation in the summit in India was being considered, “It cannot be ruled out,” the Kremlin spokesman said but no decision has been made yet, Peskov clarified.

“Russia continues its full participation in the G20 format, we intend to continue it,” Peskov pointed out.

He further said that the Group of Seven (G7) format does not reflect the global economy as a whole, which is why Moscow focuses on the G20 and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), Peskov told reporters on Monday.

Asked to comment on Western analysts’ report saying that the share of BRICS nations in the global GDP has surpassed that of G7 countries, he said: “Irrespective of the findings by these experts, it is safe to say that the economic clout of BRICS countries in the global economy is constantly growing.

Russia believes that the G7 format “obviously” fails to reflect the economic wants and needs of the planet because the global economy is far from being limited to G7 nations. “The broader grouping, the G20, far more closely reflects the real state of affairs, which is what we are concerned with,” he added.

The G7 is an integration of developed countries, which consists of the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US, France, and Japan. It mainly focuses on searching for solutions to global political and social problems. The organization existed in a seven-member format from 1976-1997. After Russia joined the organization it was called the G8. In March 2014, as a result of the events in Ukraine and the ensuing crisis in relations between Moscow and the West, the organization decided to return to the G7 format.

Last year, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov headed the Russian delegation at the G20 leaders’ forum. In 2020 and 2021 Putin took part in the G20 summits via video link, and in 2019 he came to the meeting of heads of state, which was held in Japan. (ANI)

Biden Approves 4 BN$ Arms Package Sale To India

After 2nd US Bank Collapses, Biden To Brief On Maintaining Banking System

US President Joe Biden has assured action against “those responsible for the mess” after a banking crisis hit the US with regulations shutting down Signature Bank, a New York-based lender, and California-based Silicon Valley Bank within a span of three days.

Biden said that he will on Monday morning (local time) deliver remarks on how his government will maintain a resilient banking system.
Signature Bank was closed by the state regulators on Sunday, becoming the second US bank after Silicon Valley Bank which collapsed on Friday. The crisis-hit Silicon Valley Bank’s shares tumbled over 60 percent, data showed.

“Tomorrow morning, I will deliver remarks on how we will maintain a resilient banking system to protect our historic economic recovery,” Biden was cited in the White House statement said Sunday (local time).

The US president said that over the weekend, the US Treasury Secretary and National Economic Council Director worked diligently with the banking regulators to address problems at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.

“I am pleased that they reached a prompt solution that protects American workers and small businesses, and keeps our financial system safe. The solution also ensures that taxpayer dollars are not put at risk,” Biden said.

Biden assured the American people and American businesses to have confidence that their bank deposits will be there when they need them.

“I am firmly committed to holding those responsible for this mess fully accountable and to continuing our efforts to strengthen oversight and regulation of larger banks so that we are not in this position again,” the statement added.

As these banks collapsed, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was appointed as a receiver, which typically means it will liquidate the bank’s assets to pay back its customers, including depositors, and others. (ANI)

India Qualifies For World Test C'ship, Final Against Australia

India Qualifies For World Test C’ship, Final Against Australia

India has qualified for the World Test Championship as New Zealand managed to defeat Sri Lanka in one of the instant classics.

“India have qualified for the World Test Championship final! They’ll take on Australia at The Oval for the #WTC23 mace!,” tweeted the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.
In order to qualify for the WTC final, India only had two options. India either needed to defeat Australia by a margin of 3-1 or invest their hopes in New Zealand.

On the final day of the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy India is only a few steps away from draw. But New Zealand went against the odds to defeat Sri Lanka in a dramatic fashion. On Day-5 when rain intervened to change the course of the game, the Kiwis still relied on their chances of chasing down a total of 285.

When the moment called Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell rose to the occasion to keep New Zealand in the game. Their partnership was the turning point of the entire series and for India as well. After Mitchell’s wicket, the game was wide open. Sri Lanka went on to pick up wickets at a regular level. But Williamson ensured that New Zealand maintained a consistent run rate.

Tension started to mount up in the entire stadium. Asitha Fernando held the ball to bowl the final ball of the game. One ball and one run was the difference between the two teams. Fernando produced a fierce bouncer missing Williamson’s bat entirely. Neil Wagner made an effort to complete the run with all his might. Williamson did his role and completed the run before the ball could hit the stumps. The epic clash came to an end and India booked their place in the final of WTC.

Now, even if Sri Lanka manages to win the next Test, they will only go up to 52.78 points. That will still be behind India’s 56.94 if India goes on to lose the Ahmedabad Test. If they draw the game it looks most likely that India will finish on 58.80. Australia has already qualified: even if they lose in Ahmedabad, they will end with a percentage of 64.91. (ANI)

RS Adjourned As Din Continues On Rahul’s London Remarks

The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha faced disruptions on Monday as the House adjourned for the day amid pandemonium over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in London on democracy in India with government seeking his apology and the Opposition party objecting the matter against the rulings.

It was the second adjournment of the House that was announced by the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar as the members of both the treasury benches and the Opposition continued raising slogans against each other creating a ruckus.
As soon as the Rajya Sabha assembled at 2 pm after first round of adjournment over Gandhi’s remarks in London on democracy in India during his visit to Cambridge, same matter again resonated the House.

Leader of House in Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, in a veiled attack said “this is a matter of grave concern and he (Rahul Gandhi) should be strongly condemned.”

Goyal accused that the Lok Sabha member insulted India during his visit to abroad, and sought his apology in Parliament.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge read two separate rulings and pointed that matter related to a member in another House cannot be raised in this House and demanded that “whatever the Leader of the House said in the House should be expunged.”

Amid the din, Rajya Sabha Chairman adjourned the House till 11 am on March 14.

Earlier in the day, soon after the papers were laid on the table, Goyal had also raised the issue, saying one of the leaders from Opposition party spoke against India’s judiciary, Army and media.

Goyal termed the statement a murder of India’s democracy, and demanded that the leader (Rahul Gandhi) “should come in the Parliament and apologise.”

“It is unfortunate that from the soil of London, questions are being raised on Indian democracy,” Goyal had said.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge then also said “it is wrong to comment on someone who is not a member of this House.”

The House was then adjourned till 2 pm as ruckus continued despite the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s attempt to resolve the issue for smooth functioning of the House proceedings.

Gandhi’s comments at his alma mater Cambridge University — that Indian democracy is under attack and several politicians, including himself, are under surveillance — have become the latest flashpoint between the Congress and the BJP. The BJP has accused him of “defaming” the country abroad after repeated electoral defeats.

Gandhi has hit back, alleging that it is the Prime Minister who discredited the country’s achievements since Independence. (ANI)
