What can I say?: Nitish On Raids On Tejashwi

What can I say?: Nitish On Raids On Tejashwi

A day after central investigative agencies conducted raids on relatives of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, including Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday took a dig at the BJP and said that action could be triggered due to the banding together of the Mahagathbandhan.

“…This happened in 2017. Then we (JDU-RJD) went our separate ways…five years went by and when we came together, raids occurred again. What can I say?…” the chief minister said shortly after news that CBI had summoned his deputy Tejashwi Yadav for questioning today in connection with the land-for-jobs scam.
In 2017, the JD(U) allliance with RJD broke down after CBI raids on Lalu Yadav over claims he rigged tenders when he was railway minister in the Congress-led central government.

Tejashwi Yadav who was deputy chief minister at that time too had resigned after he was named in the CBI’s case. After the raids the JD(U) broke off and allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the land-for-jobs case. However according to sources Tejashwi is likely to skip appearing before the probe agency due to his wife’s ill-health.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had on March 10 conducted a raid at the residence of Tejashwi in Delhi for over 11 hours.

Terming the probe agencies CBI and ED as “pet parrots” of Centre, Janata Dal (United) National president Lalan Singh alleged that pregnant women and small children were harassed.

Taking to Twitter, Singh said, “In the case of land for job case, the CBI could not gather evidence after investigating twice. But after August 9, 2022, suddenly they started getting evidence from divine power and heavy raids took place at Lalu Prasad ji and his family members.”

He further said that the probe agencies will do what is being instructed by the Centre as this is an “unannounced emergency”.

“Even if the evidence is not found, pet parrots will do anything to show evidence. The horn of the cow is added to the buffalo and the horn of the buffalo is added to the cow. The newspaper says- ‘The raid has been done due to AK Infosystem’… which has nothing to do with the job case. But well, pet parrots can do anything when instructed by their owner because this is an unannounced emergency,” he further said.

Singh said that no matter how the Opposition leaders will be suppressed the country will be free from BJP in 2024.

“This kind of ruthless behavior with pregnant women and small children has happened for the first time in the country, and the country will remember it. No matter how much you suppress, the country will be BJP-free in 2024,” he added.

The ED also conducted raids against many relatives of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad at multiple locations across Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Bihar in the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

The raids were conducted at the residence of Lalu Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti as well as RJD’s leader and former MLA Abu Dojana in Bihar, said sources.

The ED carried out these searches under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after filing an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) taking cognizance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case against Lalu Prasad in the matter.

The federal agency carried out these searches days after a CBI team questioned Lalu Prasad in connection with the land-for-jobs case. The CBI on Tuesday quizzed Lalu Prasad for nearly five hours in two sessions.

Tejashwi is the third person of the Yadav family who will be questioned in the case. Earlier, his parents (Rabri and Lalu Yadav) were questioned.

On March 7, Lalu Yadav was grilled by CBI for nearly six years in two sessions at his residence in Pandara Park, Delhi.

The CBI team had video-recorded the questioning of RJD chief Lalu Yadav in connection with the land-for-job case, in Delhi.

Lalu Yadav is suffering from prolonged illness, especially for his kidney-related ailments. After a Kidney transplant in Singapore, he returned to Delhi recently and he is continuously monitored by health experts in Delhi.

Lalu Yadav’s family had asked CBI officials to maintain adequate distance and use masks during questioning.

On March 6, CBI questioned former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in connection with the land-for-jobs case at the Pandara park residence of his daughter Rajya Sabha member Misa Bharti.

Earlier, a CBI official had said that the central agency had served notice to Yadav a few days ago and is likely to question Lalu Yadav soon.

CBI had filed the chargesheet in October last year, against former Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam.

The chargesheet stated that during the investigation, it was found that the accused in conspiracy with the then GM Central Railways and CPO, Central Railways engaged persons as substitutes in lieu of land either in their name or in the name of their close relatives.

This land was acquired at prices lower than the prevailing circle rate and much lower than the market rate. It was also alleged that the candidates have used false TC and submitted false attested documents to the Ministry of Railways, said the CBI statement.

The alleged scam occurred between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister. Apart from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, the chargesheet also includes the name of the then Railway General Manager.

CBI stated that the investigation had revealed that the candidates were considered for their engagement without any need for substitutes and there was no urgency for their appointment which was one of the main criteria behind the engagement of substitutes and they joined their duties much later from the approval of their appointment and they were subsequently regularised.

Recently on February 27, while taking cognisance of the CBI chargesheet, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court issued summons against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi and 14 others in connection with an alleged land-for-job scam. (ANI)

Attacks On Hindu Temples Have No Place In Australia: Albanese

Attacks On Hindu Temples Have No Place In Australia: Albanese

Australia won’t tolerate any extreme actions and attacks that took place in religious buildings, and there is no place for such action against Hindu temples, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said while addressing a press conference in New Delhi, an official statement said today.

Responding to a media query about the assurances that the Australian PM gave to his Indian counterpart, Albanese said, “I gave him the assurance that Australia is a country that respects people’s faith. That we don’t tolerate the sort of extreme actions and attacks that we’ve seen on religious buildings, be they Hindu temples, mosques, synagogues, or churches. This has no place in Australia.”
“And we will take every action through our police and also our security agencies to make sure that anyone responsible for this faces the full force of the law. We’re a tolerant multicultural nation, and there is no place in Australia for this activity,” the statement quoted him saying.

Earlier, India-Australia: Exchange of Agreements and Press Statements on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Australian PM, in light of the recent attacks on temples in Australia, has assured that the safety and well-being of the Indian community in Australia is a priority for him.

“Since the last few weeks, news of attacks on temples in Australia are coming regularly. It is natural that such news worries people in India. I have raised these concerns with Prime Minister Albanese who has assured me that the safety of the Indian community is a special priority for him,” PM Modi said.

Recently, in the first week of March, Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple in Australia’s Brisbane was vandalised by pro-Khalistan supporters.

Temple President Satinder Shukla while speaking to The Australia Today said, “Temple Priest and devotees called this morning and notified me about the vandalism on the boundary wall of our temple.”

Sarah Gates, who is the Director of Hindu Human Rights said, “This latest hate crime is a pattern of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) globally, clearly attempting to terrorise Australian Hindus. Coupled with a barrage of propaganda, illegal signs, and cyberbullying, the organisation intends to present all-pervasive threats, fear, and intimidation,” to The Australia Today.

In January, Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Australia’s Carrum Downs was vandalised with anti-Hindu graffiti.

The act came to notice on January 16 after temple devotees came for ‘darshan’ amid the three-day long “Thai Pongal” festival which was celebrated by Australia’s Tamil Hindu community, The Australia Today reported.

On the evening of January 15, 2023, Khalistan supporters tried to draw support for their referendum through a car rally in Melbourne. However, they failed miserably as less than two hundred people gathered out of an almost 60,000-strong Melbourne community, according to The Australia Today.

A week before the above incident, On January 12, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Australia’s Mill Park was smeared with anti-India and anti-Hindu graffiti.

The temple was vandalised by anti-India elements with anti-India slogans written on the temple’s walls, located in the suburb of Mill Park, The Australia Today reported. Patel, an onlooker shared how he witnessed the vandalised walls of the temple when he visited the site. (ANI)

People Should Embrace Urdu: Javed Akhtar

People Should Embrace Urdu: Javed Akhtar

Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi recently launched an Urdu poetry album ‘Shayarana – Sartaj’.

Speaking at the event, Javed Akhtar emphasized the importance of the Urdu language and the role Punjab played in its past growth and prominence. Javed Akhtar also said that Urdu doesn’t belong to Pakistan or Egypt, it belongs to ‘Hindustan’.
He said, “Urdu hasn’t come from any other place…it is our own language. It isn’t spoken outside Hindustan…Pakistan also came into existence after partition from India, earlier it was a part of India only. So, the language isn’t spoken outside Hindustan…”

He added, “Punjab has a big contribution towards Urdu and it is the language of India! But why did you leave this language? Because of partition? Because of Pakistan? Urdu should be given attention. Earlier it was only Hindustan – Pakistan later separated from Hindustan. Now Pakistan said that Kashmir is ours…will you believe that? I think ‘No’! Likewise, Urdu is a Hindustan(i) language and it remains (so). Nowadays, new generation youths speak less Urdu and Hindi in our country. Today more focus is on English. We must speak in Hindi because it’s our national language”.

He further said, “Language is not based on religions, but of regions. If language was based on religion, then the whole of Europe would have one language. That’s why the language is not of religion, but of the region.”

Talking about the event, the heart and soul behind the Urdu album is Dr Satinder Sartaaj. It comprises beautiful poetries in the nearly extinct ‘Urdu’ language from Punjab.

Coming back to Javed Akhtar, he recently created a buzz with his statement against Pakistan.

Javed Akhtar was heard saying that the perpetrators and conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks were still “roaming freely” in Pakistan.

A video of the poet-lyricist went viral on social media where he is purportedly heard speaking about “bitterness” in the hearts of Indians over the 26/11 attacks.

Responding to someone in the audience while attending a poetry festival in Lahore, he was purportedly heard in the video, “When you visit your homeland, do you tell your fellow citizens, ‘we (Pakistanis) are good people, we don’t just bomb people but also greet with garlands?'”

“Blaming each other won’t solve our problems. Aham baat yeh hai ki jo garam hai fiza, woh kam honi chahiye. Hum toh Bambaiye log hain. Hamne dekha wahan kaise hamla hua tha. Wo log Norway se toh nahi aaye the naa Egypt se aaye the, wo log abhi bhi aapke mulk me ghum rahe hain. Toh ye shikayat agar Hindustani ke dil mein ho toh aapko bura nahi manna chahiye. (We saw how Mumbai was attacked. They (terrorists) came neither from Norway nor Egypt. They are still roaming freely in your country. So you shouldn’t be offended if there’s a grouse and bitterness in Indian hearts over the 26/11 attacks,” Akhtar said at the literary event held in the memory of renowned Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

Akhtar said, “I wouldn’t hesitate to say that though we have organised so many grand functions of Nusrat (Fateh Ali Khan) sahab and Mehdi Hassan sahab in our country, you couldn’t organise a single event of Lata (Mangeshkar) ji.”(ANI)

Ancient Idol Of Lord Buddha Recovered From Chhattisgarh’s Sondra

Ancient idol of Lord Buddha belonging from the ‘Panduvanshi’ period and other statues of archaeological importance were recovered on Friday from village Sondra on Raipur-Bilaspur road during construction of a house.

The statues were recovered during the construction of Dilendra Banchor’s house at village Sondra.
After learning about the recoveries of ancient idols, a team of archaeological department reached to the spot for undertaking inspection of the area following an instruction of Director of Archaeology, Archive and Museum Department Vivek Acharya.

According to the officials of the archaeological department, “The village is located around 16 kilometers from Raipur-Bilaspur road and 2 km from Sankra area in Raipur. While undertaking digging work for the development of columns for construction of house, the idol of lord Buddha was recovered.”

The presence of ’tilak’ mark on the forehead of a recovered stone statue of Buddha, makes it more unique and indicates that it is more likely to be the meditative Buddha, officials said.

The recovered idol of lord Buddha is incomplete and the upper part of the idol was developed with three-tier technique, said the officer.

“The idols of lord Buddha prepared with this technique are available in Chhattisgarh’s Sirpur and Rajim as well as Bodhgaya of Bihar,” he added.

While conducting inspection at the site, the information related to the presence of other idols in different forms was gathered, the officer said,

The officer further stated, the antiquities recovered from the site seem to be of Panduvanshi period (6th to 9th century AD). (ANI)

Sisodia physical hearing

Can Put Me In Jail But Can’t Break My Spirits: Sisodia

In a veiled attack on the BJP, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is behind bars in connection with the excise policy scam case, on Saturday said the government can put him in jail but can’t break his spirits.

“Sir, you can trouble me by putting me in jail. But can’t break my spirits. Even the British gave trouble to the freedom fighters, but their spirits did not break,” the AAP leader said in a tweet in Hindi.
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday sent the Aam Aadmi Party leader to the Enforcement Directorate remand till March 17 in the Excise policy case.

The Court said that he is being remanded to custody for a period of 7 days till March 17 for the purposes of his “detailed and extensive interrogation and confrontations”.

The act of pro-active destruction of evidence leads to only one inference that Manish Sisodia made conscious efforts to destroy evidence of the offence of money laundering, said Enforcement Directorate while seeking remand of Sisodia in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

During the hearing, senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Manish Sisodia, opposed the ED plea seeking Sisodia’s 10-day custody.

The agency said that it is seeking 10-day custody to interrogate Manish Sisodia to identify the modus operandi and to confront other persons who have been summoned.

The ED told the court that Manish Sisodia had purchased SIM cards and mobile phones in other people’s names.

There was a conspiracy behind framing the excise policy. The conspiracy was coordinated by Vijay Nair, along with others and the Excise policy was brought out for extraordinary profit margin for wholesalers, ED argued in the court.

ED told the court that the margin of 12 per cent of wholesale profit margin to private entities was never discussed in the GoM meeting.

Earlier, Sisodia was arrested on Thursday by ED in money laundering in connection with the excise policy case.

He was arrested during his judicial custody in Tihar Jail, where he was lodged.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the liquor policy case on February 26 and was sent to 14-day judicial custody on March 6.

The ED also made another arrest in the case earlier, as it took Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai into its custody.

The probe agency has also summoned Bharatiya Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) MLC and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha for questioning in the liquor policy case today.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI earlier in its ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court sent him to judicial custody till March 20.

The excise policy was passed in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet in the middle of the deadly Delta Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

The Delhi government’s version is that the policy was formulated to ensure the generation of optimum revenue, eradicate the sale of spurious liquor or non-duty paid liquor in Delhi, besides improving user experience.

The CBI had filed a case against alleged corruption in the 2021-22 excise policy. The excise policy was subsequently withdrawn by the AAP government.

Sisodia was among 15 others booked in an FIR filed by the CBI. Excise officials, liquor company executives, dealers, some unknown public servants and private persons were booked in the case.

It was alleged that irregularities were committed including modifications in the Excise Policy and undue favours were extended to the license holders including waiver or reduction in licence fee, an extension of L-1 license without approval etc. (ANI)

Meta Job Cuts

Meta Planning To Launch Twitter Rival

Elon Musk’s Twitter could soon face new competition from Facebook-owned Meta.

Meta Platforms Inc is considering launching a new Twitter-like social network.
“We’re exploring a standalone, decentralized social network for sharing text updates,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to Variety.

“We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”

The rep said the company had no additional info on the prospective social network to share. News site Moneycontrol first reported on the potential Meta service, which is code-named “P92.”

The new Meta app would be based on — and interoperable with — the framework that powers Mastodon, a Twitter-like service that launched in 2016 and has seen a surge in popularity since Musk’s takeover of Twitter last October.

Meanwhile, Meta recently took another page from Musk’s Twitter playbook. Last month, the tech giant began rolling out Meta Verified, a subscription service for Facebook and Instagram users that includes a verified blue check-mark badge — just like Twitter Blue — as well as other perks.

Meta Verified is priced at USD 11.99/month on the web or USD 14.99/month on Apple’s iOS. The company initially launched the service in Australia and New Zealand with more countries “soon,” Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chairman and CEO, said in announcing the plans. (ANI)

BRS MLC K Kavitha Appears Before ED

BRS MLC K Kavitha Appears Before ED

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha on Saturday appeared before the officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the national capital in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kavitha had asked the federal probe agency to postpone her questioning to Saturday, citing her hunger strike in Delhi on Friday.
The central agency agreed to her request and rescheduled the questioning for today.

Kavitha launched a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in the national capital demanding the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the current Budget session of Parliament.

The party workers and supporters were also gathered outside the residence of KCR in the national capital.

Meanwhile, posters have emerged in Hyderabad showing leaders from different parties that had joined BJP and now they are not facing any agency raids.

Posters, featuring leaders who joined BJP from others parties and BRS MLC K Kavitha on the other hand, were seen in Hyderabad.

Notably, former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia has been arrested by ED in the same case. She had arrived in the national capital on March 8, hours after the ED issued a summons for questioning.

BRS leader KT Rama Rao on Friday also arrived at the residence of his father in the national capital.

According to sources, Kavitha will be made to sit face-to-face with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who was arrested in connection with the liquor policy case on Monday night.

The MLC called the summons “tactics of intimidation” by the Centre against the Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the BRS, adding that the party will continue to fight and expose the Centre’s failures and will raise its voice for a brighter and better future for India.

“I would also like the ruling party at the Centre to know that these tactics of intimidation against the fight and voice of our leader, CM KCR, and against the entire BRS party will not deter us. Under the leadership of KCR Garu, we will continue to fight to expose your failures and raise voice for a brighter and better future for India,” Kavitha said in a tweet.

On March 8, the BRS came down heavily on the Centre after the ED summoned Kavitha in connection with its ongoing probe in the Delhi excise policy case, saying that the central probe agencies have become an extended arm of the BJP.

Referring to the summons as “politically motivated”, BRS leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy had said that except ED and BJP, nobody really understands the case registered in connection with the new-withdrawn new Delhi excise policy.

In its investigation, ED has come to know that Pillai is one of the key persons in the entire scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and the formation of the biggest cartel of the South Group.

South Group comprises Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others. The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency investigation has revealed.

Pillai along with his associates was coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pillai has been an accomplice and was involved in the kickbacks from the South Group and the recoupment of the same from the businesses in Delhi, ED investigation reveals.

The ED had earlier said that the South Group gave kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders.

Pillai is learnt to be a partner of 32.5 per cent in Indo Spirits, which had got an L1 licence. Indo Spirits is a partnership firm of Arun Pillai (32.5 per cent), Prem Rahul (32.5 per cent) and Indospirit Distribution Limited (35 per cent), wherein Arun Pillai and Prem Rahul represented the benami investments of Kavitha and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta.

Kavitha, a Telangana Legislative Council member, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.

Tejashwi Yadav launched the 'Parivartan Patra' manifesto

CBI Summons Tejashwi In Land-For-Job Scam Today

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav today in connection with land-for-job case, said agency officials.

As per the officials, this is the second summon issued to him, the first being issued on February 4.
The summons comes a day after the Enforcement Directorate conducted a raid at the residence of Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in the national capital in connection with the case.

The ED team left after over 11 hours of questioning the RJD leader at his residence here in New Delhi, they said.

The ED also conducted raids against many relatives of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad at multiple locations across Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Bihar in the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

The raids were conducted at the residence of Lalu Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti among others in Delhi as well as RJD’s leader and former MLA Abu Dojana in Bihar, said sources.

The CBI on Monday also questioned Lalu Prasad’s wife, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, at her Patna (Bihar) residence for over five hours.

The CBI has already filed a charge sheet in the case against Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and 14 others under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. A Delhi court had last month issued a summons to Lalu Prasad and the other accused to appear before it on March 15.

The CBI has so far arrested three people in connection with the case– Bhola Yadav, who was an officer on special duty to Lalu Prasad when he was the railway minister; Hridayanand Chaudhary, a railway employee and an alleged beneficiary of the scandal; and Dharmendra Rai, another alleged beneficiary.

The CBI has alleged that Lalu Prasad and some of his family members had received plots of land as bribes for jobs at the Indian Railways between 2004 and 2009 when he was the Railway Minister. The agency had also carried out searches at nearly two dozen locations in August last year in connection with the probe. (ANI)
