Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh

Gangster-Turned-Politician Anand Mohan Released From Bihar Jail

Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh was released from Bihar’s Saharsa jail early Thursday morning, a jail official confirmed.

Singh’s release was necessitated after the Bihar government recently amended the prison rules allowing the release of 27 convicts including him.
He was serving a life sentence in the 1994 murder of then Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah. After the Bihar Government amended the rules of the Jail manual, an official notification stated that 27 prisoners who have served 14 years or 20 years in jail have been ordered to be released.

Posters welcoming the former MP Anand Mohan were put up at Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk in the district.

The gangster-turned-politician was earlier on parole of 15 days to attend the engagement ceremony of his MLA son Chetan Anand. He had returned to Saharsa jail on April 26 following the end of his parole period.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state prisons department had released nearly 14 convicts from various jails of the state.

Singh was among eight others who could not be released yesterday.

There has been a backlash regarding the former MP’s release from jail by the opposition in the state.

Responding to the uproar over his imminent release, Anand Mohan Singh on Tuesday took a dig at the BJP and said convicts in Bilkis Bano case were also released under Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s pressure.

“In Gujarat also, some decision has been taken under the pressure of RJD and Nitish Kumar, go and see that. Some people have been released and garlanded. Yes, I am pointing out to that case (Bilkis Bano case) only,” Singh told mediapersons.

He said that he has “full sympathy” with the slain IAS officer’s family.

“I have full sympathy for G Krishnaiah’s family. This episode ruined two families, that of Lovely Anand (his wife), and G Kishnaiah,” the former MP added.

Anand Mohan murdered Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah on December 5, 1994, in Muzaffarpur. Krishnaiah was killed by a mob allegedly provoked by Anand Mohan Singh. He was dragged out of his official car and lynched.

G Krishnaiah, a 1985-batch IAS officer who hailed from Mahbubnagar in present-day Telangana.

Anand Mohan was sentenced to death by a trial court in 2007. A year later, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court. Mohan then challenged the verdict in Supreme Court but no relief has been granted yet and he has remained in Saharsa jail since 2007.

His wife Lovely Anand has also been a Lok Sabha MP, while their son Chetan Anand is an RJD MLA from Bihar’s Sheohar. (ANI)

Sudan is experiencing bloodshed as a result of clashes between the army and paramilitary forces. Even though there is a 72-hour ceasefire, there have been allegations of violence.

Fighting has erupted between soldiers loyal to Sudanese army leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, paramilitary Rapid Support Soldiers (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The evacuation operation started in Port Sudan. Till now, an estimated 300-500 Indian citizens have been evacuated by ship and other evacuation processes are going on. The government sources also stated that the INS Teg is stationed at Port Sudan to bring back Indians from there to Jeddah.

CT Ravi on Pakistani mindest

Don’t Want Votes From People With Pakistani Mindset: BJP’s CT Ravi

Giving clarification on senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa’s controversial statement, BJP’s National General Secretary CT Ravi on Wednesday, said there are many “patriots among Muslims” who vote for BJP, but the party doesn’t want any vote from the people having “Pakistani mindset”.

“There are many patriots among Muslims who vote for BJP. But some of them who support Pakistan and have divisive ideology vote for Congress and Janata Dal. We don’t want the votes of those who have a Pakistani mindset,” said CT Ravi.
“People who are like Abdul Kalam and Shishunala Sharifa vote for BJP. We bring government schemes keeping ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ in mind and not on the basis of caste-like former CM Siddaramaiah did earlier. He brought many of the government schemes for Muslims only,” he added further.

CT Ravi further claimed that where Rahul Gandhi campaigns, Congress loses. “Rahul Gandhi campaigned in UP and Congress lost there. But wherever PM Modi campaigns, BJP wins and it will continue to win.”

CT Ravi reached old Mysore today to campaign for BJP candidate R Ashok.

Eshwarappa, who announced his decision to step away from electoral politics earlier, said CT Ravi is a “good leader” but a decision on the CM’s face is outside his domain.

He added that he doesn’t have the authority to decide the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

“CT Ravi is a good leader. He is doing very good work in Chikkamagaluru. I did not say anything about him being the next chief minister. I have no authority to make such a statement,” Eshwarappa told ANI over the phone on Tuesday.

However, he said that being a prominent leader from the Vokkaliga community, CT Ravi has all the qualities to become the future chief minister of the state.

According to reports, addressing party workers at a meeting in Nidughatta near Chikkamagaluru, Eshwapappa said he hoped CT Ravi would be elected MLA by a huge margin and become the chief minister. His alleged remark came a day after CT Ravi, himself, expressed his desire to become the chief minister. (ANI)

Kashmir SRK Taapsee

SRK-Taapsee’s Shoot In Kashmir A Shot In Arm For Economy, Tourism

Bollywood is once again making its presence felt in the valley! The move is expected to give a significant boost to the economy of Kashmir and promote tourism in the region.

The shooting of back-to-back Bollywood films in Kashmir has generated excitement among locals and tourists alike.
According to Iliyas Ahmad, CEO of the Sonamarg Development Authority, the arrival of Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu will not only bring economic benefits to the region but also put Kashmir on the global map of tourism.”

Shah Rukh and Taapsee reached Kashmir for the shoot of Rajkumar Hiarani’s ‘Dunki’. Vicky Kaushal is also a part of this movie.

“We are eagerly waiting for Bollywood to come here. We are ready with all facilities and will develop infrastructure further,” said a local hotelier.

This love affair between Kashmir and Bollywood dates back to 1949 when Raj Kapoor shot parts of his film ‘Barsaat’ in the valley. Since then, the Kashmir Valley has become a popular location for filmmakers, with several Bollywood films like ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’, ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’, and ‘Bobby’ being shot there in the 60s and 70s.

After a brief hiatus due to unfortunate circumstances in the region, Bollywood made a comeback to Kashmir in the 2000s with films like ‘Mission Kashmir’ and ‘Haider’.

In recent years, many popular Bollywood films and web series have been shot in Kashmir, giving rise to local actors like Mir Sarwar and Zaira Wasim.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s recent announcement of a new film policy and the opening of cinema halls in every district of the union territory have given a boost to the aspirations of local filmmakers and actors.

“We are delighted to see the resurgence of Bollywood in Kashmir and hope that it will lead to more opportunities for local talent to shine on the big screen,” said a local Line producer.

As Kashmir continues to make strides in its development and peace initiatives, the return of Bollywood to the valley is seen as a significant milestone that will help showcase the region’s beauty and cultural richness to the world. (ANI)

Zeenat on dev saab guidance

Was Delighted To Have Dev Saab’s Guidance: Zeenat

Zeenat Aman’s Instagram posts are no less than chroniclers of the history of cinema. The ‘Don’ actor started her appreciation post about Dev Anand on Tuesday and she continued the series with a new post on Wednesday. In the new post, Zeenat talked about how ‘Dev Saab’ (Dev Anand) mentored her alongside a few details of casting.

Zeenat talked about the age gap between Dev Saab and her. She began the post saying, “The age gap between Dev saab and myself was nearly 30 years. I had played his sister in HRHK, and he did not yet see me as a romantic lead. Instead, he cast me in the titular role of (Raakhee’s sister) Panna in Heera Panna, which released in 1973. I had a blast shooting that film, and its sound track remains a favourite to this day.”
Complimenting Dev Anand’s mentoring qualities, Zeenat said, “Dev saab was a dynamic mentor. Our association continued, and next on the cards was Ishk Ishk Ishk. I once again found myself in Nepal, but this time we were shooting in the picturesque lake town of Pokhara!”

She added, “Those of you who have seen the film know that it features a bevy of lovely women as my sisters and friends. They were literally so, because prior to the shoot Dev saab asked if I had any “model friends” who could join the project. I put the word out, several friends answered my call, and so it was quite the party in Pokhara. With a good-looking and young cast and crew, it should be no surprise that there were plenty of dalliances and heartbreaks unfolding behind the scenes. But please don’t expect the gossipy details from me! Would you like the world to know about your every crush, humiliation or affair?”

Zeenat has lot more to say. “Anyway, Dev saab was on a roll. Working with him was seamless and joyful. He was a fount of creative energy, and I was delighted to have his guidance. It would have been easy for him to tie me down to a contract, but he had the grace to never even suggest it. Thus allowing me a chance to spread my wings. We also starred together in several films made by other directors such as Darling, Darling and Kalabaaz. My career was booming, fresh offers were pouring in, but alas, one of these, led to the first and only misunderstanding between Dev Saab and myself…”

Like a series, Zeenat’s post ended on a cliffhanger. She wrote in the postscript, “( I will try to complete this story tomorrow or day after. Meanwhile, this picture is from the set of Ishk Ishk Ishk, and if I may say so myself, it is incredibly stylish!)”

Fans showered love on her post. One wrote, “Feeling Nostalgia after reading your stories”. Another one wrote, “Reading your post makes my day, they are well articulated.” (ANI)

Indians Evacuated From Sudan Narrate Ordeal, Say Fighting Was Intense

Amid the 72-hour ceasefire that has been agreed upon by the two warring factions in Sudan, countries have been evacuating their citizens at the speed of light, India being one to recently evacuate its nationals under Operation Kaveri.

The Indian Air Force very recently rescued another batch of around 250 trapped Indians from conflict-torn Sudan as part of the rescue effort. More than 250 people were evacuated from Port Sudan by two IAF C-130 J planes. Prior to this, 135 more stranded Indians were rescued from Sudan on Wednesday.
The Indians evacuated from violence-hit Sudan, too had a story to tell. They narrated their ordeal and said that the fight was so intense that it became an everyday struggle to even arrange for food.

Narrating his experience, one of the Indian nationals evacuated from Sudan told ANI, “The fight was intense. We were struggling for food. The scenario continued for 2-3 days.”

Sudan is facing violence due to fighting between the army and the paramilitary forces. There are reports of violence even amid a 72-hour ceasefire.

Fighting has been raging between forces loyal to Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a separate statement, another evacuated Indian said, “The tent of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was fixated near our company. Early morning at around 9, the forces entered our company. We were looted.”

“They kept us, hostage, for 8 hours. They kept riffles at our chest and looted us. Our mobiles were stolen,” he told ANI.

“We kept in touch with the Embassy and told them to arrange for the buses, as we had diesel. The Indian Navy came and treated us well,” the Indian national evacuated from Sudan said.

The conflict began when a coup in 2021 between Sudan’s military leader and his deputy on the ruling council erupted derailing a plan for a transition to a civilian democracy after the fall of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

As the fighting between the Sudanese Army and paramilitary groups intensified in the capital Khartoum, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed on Monday that its ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate its citizens from battle-torn Sudan is underway and about 500 Indians had reached Port Sudan.

Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar said, “Operation Kaveri gets underway to bring back our citizens stranded in Sudan. About 500 Indians have reached Port Sudan. More on their way. Our ships and aircraft are set to bring them back home. Committed to assisting all our brethren in Sudan.”

Previously, France Embassy in India informed that their country has evacuated some Indians along with citizens of 27 other countries as part of its evacuation mission from violence-hit Sudan.

Earlier, on Saturday, Saudi Arabia said it has evacuated 66 citizens of “brotherly and friendly” foreign countries that included a few Indian nationals from the conflict-hit nation.

The evacuation came days after Jaishankar spoke to his Saudi Arabia counterpart. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Sudan.

Various countries have successfully evacuated their citizens from the violence-hit North African country.

However, there is still an immense concern about the safety of those who still remain in the country, regardless of their nationality, given the ongoing violence and its impact on critical resources like food, water and medical care. (ANI)

Atiq Murder: UP Govt Files Caveat in SC To Hear Its Side Before Giving Orders

Uttar Pradesh Government has moved a caveat application in Supreme Court on a petition seeking to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the killing of Atiq and Ashraf amid police presence.

The Supreme Court on Monday said that it will list the plea seeking to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the killing of Atiq and Ashraf amid police presence.
A Caveat application is filed by a litigant to ensure that no adverse order is passed against them without being heard.

Earlier, advocate Vishal Tiwari moved a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Supreme Court seeking to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of a former Supreme Court Justice to inquire into the 183 encounters which had occurred since 2017 as stated by Uttar Pradesh Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) and also to inquire into the murder of gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf who were in police custody.

In his plea, Tiwari also sought to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into Atiq and Ashraf killings.

Advocate Vishal Tiwari mentioned before the bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud seeking an urgent hearing of his plea and apprised the court that the matter be listed today. CJI Chandrachud said that some matters could not be listed as five judges are not available as they are unwell.

Advocate Vishal Tiwari, in his public interest litigation, has also sought to issue direction to unearth the fake encounters by directing the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate, collect and record the evidence in the Kanpur Bikru Encounter case 2020 in which Vikas Dubey and his aides were killed by a police encounter. As the inquiry commission could not record the evidence in rebuttal of the police version and filed the inquiry report in the absence of that.

“The Uttar Pradesh police tried to become the Daredevils,” the petition said

The petitioner said that his public Interest Litigation is against the violation of the rule of law and oppressive police brutality being perpetrated by Uttar Pradesh.

The petitioner has apprised the court that he has approached the court in a matter pertaining to the Kanpur encounter on Vikas Dubey and said that a similar incident was repeated by Uttar Pradesh police that the encounter killing of Azad, son of Atiq Ahmad, a gangster turned politician and killing of Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf by private assailants when they were in police custody and were taken for medical examination.

The petitioner said that such incidents are a severe threat to democracy and the rule of law, and such acts are establishments of anarchy and prima facie development of the police state.

He also mentioned that extra-judicial killings or fake police encounters have been very severely condemned under the law and such things cannot exist in a democratic society. The police cannot be allowed to become a mode of delivering final justice or to become a punishing Authority, the petitioner said.

“The power of punishment is only vested in the Judiciary. The police when becomes DARE DEVILS then the entire Rule of law collapses and generates fear in the mind of people against the police which is very dangerous for Democracy and also results in further crime,” the petitioner said.

On April 15, the gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were killed when being taken for medical examination by the Uttar Pradesh Police. They were in the UP police custody and the police had the duty of providing the highest safety to the accused, the lawyer said.

The lawyer said that however few private assailants disguised as media journalists killed and shot dead Atiq and Ashraf in front of the police personnel with no protection given by the police.

“Such is a direct attack on Indian democracy and the rule of law. Later the assailants were arrested but during the commission of the offense, there was no protection and retaliation by the police. Such imposes a question on the transparency and proves this matter as a pre-planned attack with no redressal for the accused,” Advocate Vishal Tiwari said in his petition. (ANI)
