‘The Kerala Story’ has been facing criticism by political parties due to its storyline.

‘The Kerala Story’ stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles. The controversy surrounding the film started when its trailer claimed that 32,000 women from Kerala had gone missing and joined the terrorist group ISIS. This statement triggered a heated political debate and many leaders questioned the veracity of the claim.

Earlier, the Supreme Court stayed the ban imposed by the West Bengal government on the film ‘The Kerala Story’ on May 18.

“Prohibition by West Bengal is not tenable. The order of the additional secretary of West Bengal shall remain stayed,” Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said.

The apex court also directed the makers of The Kerala Story to give a proper disclaimer regarding the unsubstantiated figure ‘32,000’ mentioned in the film.

Senior Adv Harish Salve, appearing for film producers, says that disclaimer -“there is no authentic data to back up the suggestion that the figure of conversions is 32,000 or any other established figure” and “the film represents the fictionalised version” of the issue- shall be added. (ANI)

Amit Shah

Modi Will Become PM For Third Time In Next Election: Shah

Hitting out at Congress and some other opposition parties over their decision to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building, Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday termed the move as “cheap politics” and said people had elected Narendra Modi as Prime Minister with huge majority twice and he will become the PM for the third time by winning over 300 seats in 2024 polls.

Speaking at an event here, Amit Shah said that PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building in the year of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on May 28 but Congress and other opposition parties had decided to boycott the event.
“The attitude of Congress party is negative. Congress and its partners are giving an example of cheap politics and resorting to boycott,” the minister said.

Lashing out at Congress and opposition parties, Amit Shah said they are making an excuse that President should inaugurate the new Parliament building. He cited several examples from opposition-ruled states where Governor was not invited to “bhoomi pujan” functions concerning state assemblies.

He said the then Chhattisgarh Governor was not invited when the bhoomi pujan of new state assembly was done and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had been invited.

Amit Shah also cited similar instances during the Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand, the Congress government led by Tarun Gogoi in Assam and the previous Congress government in Manipur. He also mentioned Tamil Nadu.

“When you do, all is fine. And when the BJP does it, you boycott it,” he said.

“The people of the country gave a two-thirds mandate and made Modiji PM. The people give their verdict, it is not dependent on the wishes of Congress. This is democracy. The people gave mandate for PM Modi but Congress and its royal family is not prepared to accept the verdict for nine years,” Amit Shah said.

He said the opposition creates a ruckus when PM Modi speaks in Parliament and does not allow him to speak and resorts to boycott.

“Nothing will happen with your boycott. The blessings of the people are with Narendra Modiji. The entire country wants that in the building of New India, there is a new temple of democracy. There is a discussion on the building of New India in new Parliament,” he said.

“What you are doing, 130 crore people of the country are watching. In the next elections, when you go to seek mandate…you have lost the status of opposition, next time you will not win this much seats. PM Modi will become Prime Minister for the third time winning over 300 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” he added. (ANI)

Imran khan

Imran Added To No-Fly List

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chief and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been added to no-fly list, Pakistan Media reported on Thursday quoting sources.

“IK (Imran Khan) added in No Fly List,” The Pakistan Daily tweeted quoting sources. The Pakistan Daily is a digital news portal in Pakistan mainly reporting about the political updates of Pakistan.
However, there has been no official confirmation of Imran Khan being added to the no-fly list.

This comes a day after Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the government is considering imposing a ban on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the incidents that took place on May 9, Dawn reported.

Speaking to media persons in Islamabad, Khawaja Asif said, “A decision has not been taken yet, but a review is surely underway.” He called the vandalism of military installations across Pakistan on May 9 as “coordinated attacks” planned by PTI chairman Imran Khan, according to Dawn.

Earlier, Dawn reported that the police department had sent the names of 245 PTI activists, including three former members of the provincial assembly, to the federal government for inclusion in the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL), to prevent them from leaving the country.

Attributing it to sources, Dawn wrote on Thursday that the Rawalpindi district police gave around 319 names on their wanted list, and have forwarded the names of 245 PTI activists who are in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The remaining 74 individuals have yet to be arrested.

Dawn is one of the mainstream media houses of Pakistan that reports national and International issues related to Pakistan.

Dawn had reported that on Tuesday, Lahore police sought the inclusion of 746 PTI leaders in the no-fly list, with the aim of imposing a one-month restriction on their foreign travel. After the request made by the Rawalpindi police, the total number of PTI activists who may be included on the list stands at 991.

Under the PNIL, individuals on the police wanted list are prevented from flying out of the country for 30 days, Dawn wrote quoting a senior police official

After reviewing the cases of those arrested, the police finalised the names of 245 individuals detained during and after the May 9 violence. These names were then sent to the FIA to restrict their travel via air, land or sea routes.

Among those still wanted by the police but yet to be arrested are ex-MPA of PTI Rashid Hafeez, the nephew of Sheikh Rasheed; Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, who was previously arrested and later released; and Umar Tanveer Butt, Dawn reported.

As per the information provided to the federal government, it was revealed that 31 suspects had been arrested by the RA Bazar police in connection with the attack on GHQ, while 27 others wanted by the police are still at large, Dawn reported.

The temporary travel restrictions were proposed by the police after identifying the PTI supporters involved in violent protests through video clips, CCTV footage, intelligence and geo-fencing.

Under the supervision of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, the police investigation team has arrested 104 suspects in connection with the GHQ attack case, and identification parades for 23 individuals have been completed.

The police have been directed to expedite legal proceedings against those arrested in connection with the May 9 violence, Dawn reported.

In this regard, the police have also requested the Punjab Home Department to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the terrorism-related cases registered under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

A police crackdown is underway to apprehend suspects wanted in connection with these cases.

Meanwhile, the officers stated that two separate teams of police, each supervised by a Superintendent of Police, have been formed to apprehend PTI leaders and activists from Punjab and KP. They added that the Punjab and KP police are being contacted for assistance in arresting the individuals wanted by the capital police in connection with the cases, Dawn reported.

However, the feedback received from the KP police was not encouraging, as per the officers. They explained that the capital police received a response indicating that they are likely to encounter significant resistance during house raids for arrests, as it goes against the local culture for strangers to enter their homes.

Capital police have also requested the interior ministry to put the names of the PTI leaders on the PNIL and Exit Control List (ECL), who are still at large in connection with the cases registered against them over violence in May 2022 and 2023. (ANI)

Court Sends Atiq’s Killers To 14-Day Judicial Custody

The three killers of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were sent to 14-day judicial custody by Prayagraj Magistrate court on Thursday.

The shooters identified as Sunny Singh, Lavlesh Tiwari, and Arun Maurya were produced before the court earlier in the day.

Sharad Pawar with Kejriwal

If BJP Fails To Pass Bill In RS…: Kejriwal After Meeting Pawar

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who met Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday to seek the party’s support in Rajya Sabha against the Centre’s ordinance on control of administrative services in the national capital, said that the defeat of the Bill in the Upper House will be the testimony of opposition unity.

Kejriwal said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party fails to pass the Bill in Rajya Sabha, it will imply that the “Narendra Modi government will not be able to return to power at the Centre after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.”
“Sharad Pawar ji has assured us that NCP will support us in defeating the Bill in Rajya Sabha. We are trying to gather support from all non-BJP parties against the Centre’s ordinance on control of administrative services in the national capital,” Kejriwal said at a joint press conference with Pawar.

He thanked Pawar for his assurance to support the AAP in the Upper House and said that it is a fight for the “federal structure” of the country.

“I thank Sharad Pawar that he has assured his support that when the Bill comes to Rajya Sabha, they will not let the Bill pass in the House. If all non-BJP parties come together in Rajya Sabha, this Bill can be failed. This is not a fight for Delhi, it is a fight for the federal structure,” he said.

“If the BJP is not able to pass the Bill in Rajya Sabha, then one should consider it a semi-final of 2024. The message will be that the Modi government is not returning in 2024,” the Delhi Chief Minister added.

When asked if he will meet Congress leadership in connection with the matter to seek their support, Kejriwal said that he will seek time from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to meet them on the issue.

Sharad Pawar assured his party’s support to AAP on the matter and said that talks will be held with other leaders to support Delhi Chief Minister in his effort.

“There is a crisis in the country and it’s not an issue limited to Delhi. NCP and the people of Maharashtra will support Kejriwal. We will also talk to other leaders to support Kejriwal. We must focus on bringing all non-BJP parties together,” Pawar said.

The Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday embarked on a nationwide tour to seek support from the Opposition parties against the ordinance brought by the central government on the transfers and postings of bureaucrats in the national capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor accused the Centre of “taking away the rights” of the people of Delhi and said that the ordinance “should not” be allowed to pass in Rajya Sabha.

This comes after the Union Government on May 19 brought an ordinance to notify rules for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) regarding the ‘transfer posting, vigilance and other incidental matters’.

The ordinance was brought to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991 and it circumvents the Supreme Court judgement in the Centre vs Delhi case.

Earlier, CM Kejriwal met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Tuesday and sought her support against the ordinance. (ANI)

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri

Hardeep Lashes Out At Cong Over New Parliament Building

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday lashed out at the Congress for objecting to the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that with such actions the opposition party will surely “fade into oblivion.”

“…I find it very difficult to have an intelligent conversation with them (Congress) on that…They say something else when they meet us and something entirely different for public consumption. I think they are slowly but surely ensuring they will fade into oblivion….” Hardeep Puri told ANI.
“Agar unhone Parliament banaya hota toh innagurate kar sakte the na? (If they had built the Parliament they could have innagurated it), Puri said.

The union minister had a day earlier in a press briefing in the national capital pointed out that In August 1975, then PM Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Annexe, and later in 1987 PM Rajiv Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Library. “If your (Congress) head of government can inaugurate them, why can’t our head of government do the same?,” Puri asked.

He said that the boycott of the inaugural of the Parliament building stems from “both gross and misrepresentation of the nature of the occasion.”

“…You are celebrating India the mother of democracies the largest democracy, now the fifth largest economy in the world going in the direction of the third-largest economy in the world and you want to disassociate yourself from that? You are disassociating yourself from India, what is Indian civilization, culture and democracy,” said Hardeep Puri while talking to ANI today.

Union Minister RK Singh also criticised the opposition parties decision to boycott the new Parliament building inauguration.

“These people (opposition) have no validation for the sanctity of the Parliament…they have boycotted the President’s address numerous times. They have constantly been disrupting the Parliament…they have no respect for the Parliament. This is a great occasion for the country and the opposition is playing divisive politics,” Singh said on Opposition’s decision to boycott the inauguration.

Maharashtra Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also pointed out that the Congress had gone ahead with the inauguration of the Parliament Annexe by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

“It is being said that the President should inaugurate the new Parliament building, so why it didn’t come up when Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Annexe?,” Fadnavis asked.

In Chennai, Union Finance Minister said the Opposition parties should rethink their decision to boycott the opening of the new Parliament building.

“It’s a temple of democracy, even the PM entered the Parliament by bowing on its steps. I humbly request and appeal (to the Opposition), kindly re-think, change your stand and participate in the ceremony,” Sitharaman said.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have said they will boycott the ceremony to unveil the new Parliament building. The opposition said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to inaugurate the building without President Droupadi Murmu “insults the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution”.

The opposition parties said in the statement that the new Parliament building has been built “at great expense during a once-in-a-century pandemic with no consultation with the people of India or MPs, for whom it is apparently being built.”

BSP Mayawati

Mayawati Calls Boycott Of New Parliament Building Unfair

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday said it was “unfair” that some opposition parties have decided to boycott the unveiling ceremony of the new Parliament building stating that government has the right to unveil it as they are the ones who have made it.

“The boycott and linking it to the respect of a tribal women (President Murmu) is completely unfair,” the BSP chief said.
Mayawati has, however, said she will not attend the ceremony due to pre-scheduled engagements.

Amid the decision by Congress-led opposition parties to boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday welcomed the historical ceremony, to be held on May 28.

Taking to Twitter, Mayawati said that BSP has always risen above party politics and supported the government at the Centre on issues related to the country and public interest.

“Whether it was of Congress in the past or that of the BJP now, the BSP has always supported the government at the Centre on issues related to the country and public interest, rising above party politics and the party sees the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28 in the same context and welcomes it,” Mayawati posted on Twitter.

Taking a potshot at those who opposed the New Parliament building, Mayawati said it was not fair to boycott the ceremony just because it was not being inaugurated by President Murmu.

“To boycott because it is not being inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu is unfair. The government has built it so it has the right to inaugurate it. It is also unfair to link this with respect to tribal women. They should have thought of this while fielding a candidate against her instead of electing her unanimously,” Mayawati posted.

However, in the series of tweets, she clarified that she will not be able to attend the ceremony due to her prior commitment.

“I have received the invitation for the program dedicated to the country, that is, the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House, for which I thank and extend my best wishes. But due to my pre-scheduled engagement regarding the continuous review meetings of the party, I will not be able to attend that function,” the BSP leader said.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have said they will boycott the ceremony to unveil the new Parliament building. The opposition said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to inaugurate the building without President Droupadi Murmu is an “insult to the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution”.

The opposition parties said in the statement that the new Parliament building has been built “at great expense during a once-in-a-century pandemic with no consultation with the people of India or MPs, for whom it is apparently being built.”
