AAP Seeped In Corruption From Delhi To Punjab: Anurag

Following the Supreme Court’s rejection of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia’s bail, Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday hit out to the party leaders and said that Aam Aadmi Party has done widespread corruption from Delhi to Punjab.

Anurag Thakur said, “Ever since they came to power, one leader after another has been found involved in corruption. Aam Aadmi Party has done widespread corruption from Delhi to Punjab. Just two months after the formation of the government in Punjab, its health minister was accused of corruption and he had to resign.”

“Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal keeps distributing certificates of honesty to Manish Sisodia to Satyendra Jain. A minister who used to give certificates of honesty went to jail, and now his bail has not been granted,” he added.

Meanwhile, after the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Manish Sisodia in connection with cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case, the Bharatiya Janata Party has slammed the Aam Aadmi Party and asked for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said “After the trial court, high court and now supreme court has denied bail to Manish Sisodia. All the defences of AAP falls flat on their face because the Supreme Court while denying bail has said that a 338 crore money trail has been established, which means money has reached the coffers of AAP. They were continuously saying where is the money trail? They keep fooling the people of the country.”

In its reply the AAP accused the BJP government at the centre of vendetta politics.

“They want to politically end Arvind Kejriwal. In the way in which AAP is expanding, PM Modi and the BJP were clear that it is becoming impossible to defeat AAP in a legal way in elections….This is part of that conspiracy. In this, there is collateral damage to the country. The BJP is trying to end all the institutions slowly. People are above everything in democracy. PM Modi and the BJP are giving the message that people can vote for anyone, but we will run the government because we have power” said AAP leader Saurab Bharadwaj.

Manish Sisodia had moved the Supreme Court for bail in CBI and ED cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

He had challenged the Delhi HC order rejecting his bail plea. The Delhi High Court had denied him bail in both matters.

In February 2023, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the opposition. Sisodia is currently in judicial custody. (ANI)

Inzamam Steps Down As Pak Chief Selector

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq stepped down from the post of chief selector of the men’s cricket team amid the team’s disastrous ICC Cricket World Cup campaign, Dawn reported on Monday.

According to the report, Inzamam confirmed his resignation as chief selector on SAMAA TV’s show ‘Zor Ka Jor’. Pakistan is currently in the sixth spot with just two wins and four losses in six matches, aggregating just four points.

One of the title contenders going into the quadrennial showpiece, Babar Azam’s men fell to heavy losses to Australia, India, Afghanistan and South Africa.

They are currently placed precariously on the points table and even victories in their remaining three fixtures do not fully guarantee them a semifinal spot.

“Allegations were made […] today, I went to the board and asked them to hold an inquiry if they had any doubts,” Inzamam said in the programme.

“Later I got a call that they had formed a five-member committee,” Haq said, adding that he decided to step down from his post pending the probe by the committee.

PCB has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to look into allegations of conflict of interest as has been reported in the local media.

The allegations pertain to the team’s selection process.

“Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner,” PCB Media posted from its official handle on X.

Inzamam added that he was willing to sit with PCB after the conclusion of the inquiry.

“We are cricketers and we are available all the time to serve the country. Since I am facing an inquiry, and as the nature of my job is, I should step down and let them conduct the probe,” the former skipper stated, according to Dawn.

He said it was painful hearing people pass comments on his job without any evidence.

“I am a human and it hurts. I had an over 20-year cricket career during which I represented Pakistan at the highest level. I am not someone who people do not know. When such allegations are levelled, it hurts,” Inzamaam was quoted as saying in the show, according to Dawn. (ANI)

IAF Activates Three S-400 Missile Units On China, Pak Border

With the Air Force having already operationalised three of its S-400 air defence missile squadrons along borders with China and Pakistan, Indian and Russian officials are set to meet soon to discuss the final delivery schedule for the remaining two squadrons.

India had signed an over Rs 35,000 crore contract with the Russian side in 2018-19 for five squadrons of the S-400 missiles of which three have already arrived in the country but delivery of the remaining two was hindered due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“The three squadrons have already been operationalised in important sectors. While one unit is looking at both China and Pakistan, one each has been earmarked for China and Pakistan fronts,” defence sources told ANI.

The Russian and Indian officials would be soon meeting again to discuss the final delivery schedule of the remaining two missile squadrons, sources said.

The Russian side has not been very clear about the final delivery timelines as they are also busy with the conflict with Ukraine.

Sources further mentioned that some reports suggested that the squadrons manufactured for the Indian Air Force were used by the Russians for their own utilization but nothing is confirmed and India is also focused only on getting its own systems.

Meanwhile, the Indian Defence Acquisition Council recently cleared the procurement of the Indian Long Range Surface to Air Missile system under Project Kusha after the development project was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security.

The Indian Air Force is working with the DRDO to squeeze the delivery schedule of the LR-SAM.

The three-layered long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) defence system would be able to strike down enemy aircraft and missiles at around 400 Km ranges.

The system would be ably complemented by the existing air defence systems, including the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) of the three services and is already operational. (ANI)

Onion Prices Soar In Multiple Parts Of Country

Buyers have expressed concern over the rising onion prices in several parts of the country and urged the government to take additional steps to bring it down. The price of onion has touched Rs 80 per kg in Mumbai.

The government recently imposed Minimum Export Price for onions and procurement of additional 2 lakh tonnes of onion for buffer stocks.

A buyer in Mumbai said, “The prices of onions have increased so much. The rate is Rs 80 per kg. It may go up to Rs 150. We request the government to decrease prices.”

Meanwhile, in other parts of the country, such as Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, a vegetable seller Manoj stated said prices have soared due to the shortage in supply.

“We are getting onions for Rs 60 to 65 from mandi. Customers are not buying the onions due to rising costs. There is a shortage of supply too,” he said.

Akhilesh Kumar, who came to purchase vegetables at a mandi in Agra said, “Prices are too high. Our consumption of onions has decreased. Earlier we used to take 1-2 kgs. Now we are just buying 250 gm. Currently, the prices are around Rs 80 per kg.”

Rahul, a vegetable seller in Kanpur, requested the intervention of the government and said that the stock has been destroyed due to recent rains.

“The main reason for the rise in prices is the heavy rains. All stock has been destroyed. There is a shortage of supply. Going forward, prices will continue to rise. I request the government to intervene in this situation,” he said.

Earlier, the Union Government on Saturday notified the minimum export price (MEP) of USD 800 per Metric Ton (MT) on a FOB basis for the export of onions, with effect from October 29 to December 31, 2023.

The measure has been taken to maintain sufficient availability of onion to domestic consumers at affordable prices as the quantity of stored rabi 2023 onion is declining.

The MEP of USD 800 per MT translates into about Rs 67 per kg.

Along with the decision to impose MEP on onion exports, the government has also announced the procurement of an additional 2 lakh tonnes of onion for the buffer, over and above the 5 lakh tonnes already procured.

Onion from the buffer has been disposed of continuously since the second week of August in major consumption centres all over the country and also supplied to retail consumers at Rs 25/kg through mobile vans operated by NCCF and NAFED. To date, about 1.70 lakh Metric Tons of onion have been disposed of from the buffer.

The continuous procurement and disposal of onion from the buffer are undertaken to moderate the prices for consumers while ensuring remunerative prices for the onion farmers. The decision to impose an MEP of USD 800 per MT shows the determination of the government to keep onions affordable to domestic consumers.

Earlier, the government said that it has procured over 5.07 lakh metric tonnes of onion and is all set to procure another 3 lakh metric tonnes in the days to come, which will help keep the price under control.

The government has disposed of over 1.74 lakh metric tonnes of onion in wholesale markets of Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, West Bengal, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Assam and Uttarakhand, the official said, adding that the prices of onion will start declining in the coming days.

According to the official, the retail price matrix got disturbed due to the fall in the arrival of onions in Mandis.

“Still, the price of onions is much lower in comparison to 2021, when onion prices crossed the Rs 100 mark,” the official added. (ANI)

ED Summons Kejriwal In Delhi Excise Policy Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on November 2, to question him in connection with its ongoing probe into the Delhi excise policy case.

Kejriwal was earlier summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April this year, in connection with the case.

However, Kejriwal was not named as an accused in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 17, last year.

In February 2023, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy.

The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the opposition.

Sisodia is currently in judicial custody.

According to the CBI, Sisodia had played the most important and vital role in the criminal conspiracy and was deeply involved in the formulation as well as the implementation of the said policy to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the said conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the bail plea filed on behalf of Manish Sisodia in connection with cases related to the alleged liquor scam. (ANI)
