Chandrababu Seeks Fool-Proof Security In Andhra jail From ACB Court

Andhra Pradesh former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to a special Anti-Corruption Bureau Court special judge seeking fool-proof security in and around the jail in Rajamahendravaram where he has been on judicial remand since September 10 for alleged involvement in the skill development scam.

In the letter dated October 25, Naidu brought to the Vijayawada court’s notice a few untoward incidents that took place in and around the central jail in the recent past which that endangered his life and limb.

“I wish to bring a few untoward incidents that occurred in and around the Central Prison, Rajamahendravaram in the recent past for your consideration, having the tendency to endanger my life and limb despite being a Z category security protectee,” Naidu said in his letter.

Accusing the ruling government of jeopardizing his security, Naidu urged the judge to ensure comprehensive security measures in and around the prison, equivalent to the Z+ category security cover he has been granted.

“I have been sent to the Judicial Remand on September 10 and I was brought to the Central Prison, Rajamahendravaram on the intervening night of September 10 and 11. I was unauthorizedly videographed and photographed while entering the prison, and while in the prison complex. The said footage was leaked out by the police themselves. Those images were widely circulated/publicized on social media platforms by the party in power with a malicious intention to damage my reputation and image in the eyes of the people, by throwing my security concerns to the winds, having the tendency to put my life in danger,” Naidu said.

“It came to my notice that one anonymous letter was received by the Superintendent of Police (SP), East Godavari and the jail authorities in which it was written that some left-wing extremists are planning to assassinate me and crores of rupees were changed hands to execute that assassination bid. The police authorities till now did not make any attempt to enquire about the veracity of the said letter nor have taken steps to avert any unforeseen incident,” the TDP chief added.

Naidu said that time and again they have been complaining about the unruly activities of the ruling party leaders and their activists to the police but no action has been taken against any of them till now.

“All the aforementioned incidents bring to the fore the lapses in the security arrangements. By keeping in view all the aforementioned incidents therefore it is requested to undertake foolproof security arrangements in and around the Central Prison, Rajamahendravaram, commensurate with the Z Category security cover provided to me,” the former CM added in his letter.

The Vijayawada ACB court extended N Chandrababu Naidu’s remand in the alleged multi-crore skill development scam case till November 1. Naidu is currently in judicial custody.

The TDP leader was presented virtually before the court from the Rajahmundry Central Prison.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 9 in connection with the multi-crore skill development scam case, leading to apolitical turmoil in the state with several TDP leaders alleging that the arrest was nothing but a political “witch-hunt” and that Naidu was held on the basis of false allegations. Hamas Commander Killed In Overnight Strikes: IDF

The commander of Hamas’ Western Khan Yunis Battalion, Madhath Mubshar, was eliminated by an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) aerial strike on Thursday night

For the second consecutive night, Israeli troops carried out targeted strikes inside Gaza, as confirmed by the Israel Defence Forces, bracing them for their preparations for the next phase in the conflict against Hamas.

Additionally, the IDF also hit over 250 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in the past day.

“Madhath Mubashar–Commander of Hamas’ Western Khan Yunis Battalion–was eliminated by an IDF aerial strike. Furthermore, the IDF struck 250+ Hamas targets, including a terrorist tunnel network in Gaza that detonated the secondary explosions,” posted the IDF on X.

Military spokesperson, Rear Adm Daniel Hagari said, “Midhat took part in sniping attacks and large explosives against IDF forces and Israeli settlements.”

The targets included Hamas tunnels, command centres, rocket launch positions, and dozens of operatives, the IDF said, adding that a Skylark 3 drone crashed in the Gaza Strip earlier today “as a result of a technical error.”

Hagari also said that there is no fear of sensitive information leaking from the device.

The IDF has also confirmed the killing of Ayser Mohammad Al-Amer, a field commander in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s Jenin wing, during clashes in the Jenin refugee camp overnight.

The army also confirmed clashes with Palestinian gunmen in the Jenin refugee camp and the city of Qalqilya, with earlier reports of four casualties, including Al-Amer, in these two locations, as reported by The Times of Israel.

The IDF said it returned fire at Palestinians who were shooting at their forces and dealing with rioters hurling explosive devices. There were no reported injuries on the Israeli side.

In overnight arrest raids across the West Bank, IDF troops detained 17 members of the Hamas terror group and 19 other wanted Palestinians, according to the IDF.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, the IDF has arrested around 1,030 wanted Palestinians in the West Bank, including approximately 670 individuals affiliated with Hamas.

The IDF has faced several clashes with Palestinians in the West Bank over the past two weeks, as well as thwarted attempted terror attacks, it said.

According to the Palestinian Authority health ministry, Israeli forces and, in some cases, settlers, have been responsible for the deaths of 110 West Bank Palestinians since October 7.

Separately, the IDF said that the head of the Central Command, Maj Gen Yehuda Fox, has approved a demolition order for a home owned by Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri, located in the town of ‘Arura, near Ramallah.

Arouri is believed to reside in Turkey, The Times of Israel reported.

At least 7,028 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7 and more than 1,400 people were killed in the Hamas attack on Israel. (ANI)

Cong CEC Meet Begins In Delhi For Telangana Elections

The Congress Election Committee meeting on Telangana started on Friday at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in New Delhi.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the CEC meeting. Party’s prominent leaders like Sonia Gandhi, and Salman Khurshid along with others were present at the meeting.

However, Rahul Gandhi did not attend the CEC meeting today. This is the second consecutive meeting that the Congress leader has skipped.

The meeting will focus on finalising candidates for the remaining seats in the poll-bound state, Telangana.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress’s poll in-charge Manikrao Thakare held a screening committee meeting on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said all decisions on the remaining seats would be finalised during the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on Thursday.

“Today, there was a screening committee meeting in which discussions were held about various matters with regard to the upcoming elections. We will put forth all the suggestions from this meeting at the meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) tomorrow. At the meeting, we held discussions on all the seats. The list of candidates for the remaining seats would be declared after the CEC meeting.”

“However, all such decisions would be taken by the CEC. Our responsibility is merely to put forth our views and suggestions before the CEC,” he added.

The Congress is likely to release its second list of candidates, comprising 35-45 names, for the Telangana state Assembly polls after the meeting of the CEC.

The list is likely to include former MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, who quit the BJP on Thursday, and will join the Congress today. Reddy is likely to contest against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The Congress had declared its first list, of 55 candidates, on October 15.

In the previous Assembly election in 2018, the BRS won 88 of the 119 seats, hogging 47.4 per cent of the total vote share.

The Congress came in a distant second with just 19 seats.

The counting of votes for Telangana Assembly will be held along with those of four other poll-bound states on December 3. (ANI)

As India continues to gear up for the much-awaited clash against the defending champions Kohli and many other batters were seen bowling in the nets.

Along with the players who form India’s usual bowling set-up which includes Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, the likes of Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Kohli also bowled a few deliveries as well.

Shami (5/54) was the pick of the bowlers for India. Kuldeep Yadav (2/73) was also fine with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took a wicket each.

War Sirens And a Prayer on the Lips

There is a nip in the air. In this festive time, like Vivaldi’s four seasons, let the music float.

Her daughter said that she is “a ray of light” for the family. Almost 80, frail and strong at the same time, she held the outstretched hand of the masked and armed Hamas guerilla, and said, “Shalom”.

They treated her roughly in the beginning, kidnapping her on a bike, but, once in their own twilight zone, in the maze of endless tunnels which she found like a cobweb, they were gentle. Her husband has not been released. Both of them would earlier take injured people from Gaza into Israeli territory for treatment. They are humanists. As she spoke in Hebrew, she blamed the Israeli government for its abject failure.

A lovely little Palestinian girl. A  ray of light for her family and community in Gaza. Beautiful –like lucid, winter sunshine. Killed in the mindless, revengeful, murderous Israeli airstrikes on civilians. Of the 6,000 dead here, there are reportedly 2,000 children.

Children always die in wars. Children have no clue about the war. Children are the nameless landmarks of the war. Now, they are wearing bracelets on their little hands – so that they can be identified once they are bombed to death!

How do you celebrate the festive season, the sublime recitations of ‘Mahalaya’ as Durga arrives, the ‘anjali’ and prayers in the mornings, and the heady ‘aarti-dance’ with drums and ‘ghanta’ in the evenings, as homage to the goddess, who has arrived for a brief visit to earth, while kids wearing bracelets are being murdered in cold blood?

Their children. Our children. Children unborn, in the incubator, in dark hospitals without medicine, food, drinking water, electricity. Nameless children in their imagined homelands.

There is a tall tree with bushy white flowers which only blossom in the night these days. Nocturnal flowers with their hypnotic, seductive, ethereal fragrance. They arrive too for a brief visit just before the winter arrives. Like those fleshy, leafy flowers, burning orange and red, Palash, which turns the world into a canvas of passion just before Holi. Adivasis make colours out of these flowers. They come and go, like children, spreading the beauty of their unashamed beauty and innocence. So, where have all the flowers gone?

What is it about adults that they love wars and bloodshed so much? What is it with the West and the mighty State of Israel that they can occupy and capture a land which does not belong to them, turn Gaza into the biggest open air prison, shoot to death unarmed protesters, become ‘first world’ settlers after pushing the Palestinians out of their own homes, and then beat the hell out of them when they go for prayers in their most revered mosque?

As Durga comes and goes, immersed in the waters, the festive season arrived in a small village in the hills of Uttarakhand with a puppet show of a billion stars in the night-sky. Across the expanse in the cold night, the sky unfolded in the distance into the valley, as if a tide in a moonlit night-sea was floating in the distance. You could almost hear it moving to and fro. But, no, it is not the sea; it is a mountain stream, gurgling away, rippling into stones and melting them, etherized and tangible at the same time, singing the song of the road – Pather Panchali.

You can let the water slip by, mesmerized by its infinite flow from the deep insides of the mountains; you can hold the water in your palm and drink it slowly, as it heals the inside of the soul with a cool, soothing touch. “I touch you, and you ripple like a river,” wrote Pablo Neruda.

There are four dogs and two little girls. They are asking the dogs to shake hands. They refuse to shake hands. Instead, the dogs give unconditional love and affection. Kids love animals, they belong to nature, all kids, in the kibbutz, in the hills, in Gaza and the West Bank, on the mean streets, barefoot, unwashed and emaciated, inside school buses looking at the world outside with infinite wonder, flying kites and playing marbles, looking for unknown planets and stars in the night. A mother tells her daughter, “Some of the stars in this midnight mountain sky are long dead. You are lucky to see them tonight!”

A little girl is drawing stars with colourful chalks on a black stone. Purple stars. Vermillion stars. Black and white stars. Twinkle, twinkle little star… how I wonder what you are!

Sometimes, her stars move out of the stone and fly into the sky and becomes butterflies. They say, butterflies are free. Are they, in Gaza? So what are the butterflies doing in the rubble, along with the kids wearing bracelets?

In the hills, the wind moves in slow motion, and there is no festivity. Darkness descends suddenly like a premonition, and there is one lonely light in the distance. People are toiling hard on the fields during the sunshine day, growing vegetables, running an ‘aata chakki’ with the rapid current of a waterfall, trekking long distances home from the nearest town, because, as is the norm in most rural and inaccessible areas in India, there is no public transport. The government cares a damn.

No one is wearing new clothes, there are no loudspeakers blaring religious songs, no feasts being cooked, no mantras being chanted. On the day they feed little girls, a mother made puri, halwa and chana, as simple as it can get.

Inside an old trunk there are old clothes, rajais, sweaters, that ancient coat with two buttons missing, the warm socks no one wears. A sweet smell of naphthalene permeates the corridors of as the trunk is reopened after a long time. There is a diary with a leaf and a rose petal. Inside the diary, there is a letter written in long hand, with a fountain pen, the ink smudged on the sides. You can still touch the ink, and the paper has yet again returned to its embryo, becoming bark and wood, still holding that familiar, fleeting smell, like the hidden memory of unrequited love.

Festivals are like catharsis in this unfinished journey of life. It’s in the air, like that heady smell of the nocturnal flowers. It’s a way of life, a cultural symbolism, life-affirming amidst the seasons of dying and death. A synthesis of hope and despair. Helping us once again — to whistle in the dark.

Open the windows of your heart. Let the stars fly away from the stones and become butterflies, like little beautiful mountain kids. Write a poem scrawled on the cool north wind. Rejoice that you are alive. Whisper a song to yourself. Touch the rippling waters of a mountain spring. Follow the unfinished sentence, the stream of consciousness. Take the water in your palm and drink it slow. Like dew drops. Like nostalgia. Like love.

In this festival of lights this year, good has not won over evil. Evil celebrates its obsessive barbarism as if possessed. In the poorest house in the Hindi heartland, a ‘diya’ is twinkling, like the north star. In Gaza, and in the Israeli kibbutz, there are funerals and shared sorrow. The olive trees have turned into dust. And butterflies are not free. They never were!

Assam CM Gets EC Notice Over Violative ‘Akbar’ Remark

The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma over his speech during the Chhattisgarh poll campaign in Kawardha.

The Election Commission in the show-cause notice mentioned that certain parts of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s speech on October 18 have been found to be “prima facia violative”.

The EC has asked Assam CM Himanata Biswa Sarma to be present before 5pm on October 30, 2023.

“You are hereby called upon to show cause by 17:00 hrs of 30th October 2023, (Monday) as to why appropriate action of violation on Model code of conduct should not be taken against you.”, the notice read.

Himanta Biswa Sarma while campaigning in Kawardha, made a statement which stirred a row.

“When one Akbar arrives in a particular location, he brings along a hundred Akbars. Therefore, it is crucial to remove him swiftly or else the sanctity of Mata Kaushalya’s land will be compromised”, he said addressing an election rally.

This comes as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released its fourth and final list of candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, fielding party leader Rajesh Agarwal from Ambikapur constituency against state Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo.

The first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 7 and the remaining 70 seats in the state will go to polls on November 17. The counting of votes will be done on December 3. (ANI)
