Working Style Of Modi, Shah Matches With Mine: Ajit

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar issued a statement on Monday, ‘clarifying’ his decision to align with the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state.

Hailing the ‘strong leadership and correct decision-making’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Pawar said that he found the development work done under their leadership ‘important’.

Drawing parallels, the NCP leader said that he identified with the working style of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

“The decision taken by the Nationalist Congress Party to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena is still being discussed in different media. This letter is to make my role in this matter more clear,” Ajit Pawar mentioned in his statement.

“I find it important that the development work that is being done in this country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Strong leadership and correct decision-making process, these are their qualities that I like very much. My and their working methods are very similar,” the statement said.

“I felt that it would be possible to carry out some of my future plans for development with them in a more effective manner, so I decided to go with them with the aim of taking this state towards development. Since I have taken this role, it has been my experience that since joining the government, development work has gained momentum,” it added.

Pawar asserted that his intention was not to hurt or insult anyone but undertake and complete development works without compromise.

“I have taken my own role with the aim of completing the development works without any compromise with the ideology and objective etc. In this, I do not dare to insult anyone in any way, hurt anyone’s feelings or cheat anyone or harm anyone. It was never my intention to have a dagger in my back or anything like that, nor will I ever have one,” he stated.

He said that to undertake any service for the people it is important to be in power.

“I have seen it done both by being in power and by being in opposition. While in power, we have seen development slowing down rapidly and while in opposition, we have also seen development works getting stuck. So one truth which cannot be denied is that for development work it is necessary for you to be in power,” the Deputy CM said.

He further stated that he has no intention of ‘disrespecting elderly people’.

“I have no intention of disrespecting fatherly or elder people. How can the standard of living of the people be raised, how can the facilities of their basic infrastructure be made more efficient? So this is for the work of the people,” he said.

Pawar further appealed to the people to join him on his ‘path of development’ and sought blessings from the ‘seniors’.

“In the times to come, the Nationalist Congress Party will not comment on anyone personally and will go before the people of the state with a blueprint for development and I also assure the people of the state about this. I humbly appeal to all the citizens to join me as I walk on the path of development and to all the seniors to bless me,” he added.

Ajit Pawar, along with eight MLAs, joined Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra on July 2 last year. (ANI)

Australia Imposes Sanctions On Russian Prison Officials Over Navalny’s Death

Australia has imposed financial sanctions and travel bans on seven Russian prison officers accused of mistreating Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny at the Siberian penal colony where he recently met his demise, CNN reported.

In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles said, “Australia holds President Putin and the Russian Government responsible for Mr Navalny’s treatment and death in custody.”

Since December 2022, Australia has consistently applied “Magnitsky-style” human rights sanctions to Russian individuals, starting with penalties for those accused of poisoning Navalny in 2020. This move aligns with the broader international response, as the United States and the European Union also recently enacted sanctions against Russia in response to Navalny’s death and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, according to CNN.

The late Alexey Navalny, was known for exposing corruption, challenging the ruling United Russia party, and orchestrating significant anti-government protests. His imprisonment in 2021 triggered widespread demonstrations across Russia, resulting in numerous detentions. Even from prison, Navalny continued to denounce Russia’s invasion of Ukraine through social media, urging anti-war protests nationwide.

In December, Navalny was quietly transferred to a Siberian penal colony, a move that sparked a two-week search by his team after losing contact during the unannounced transfer. His death, reported by the Russian prison service, is anticipated to reverberate through Russian society, underscoring a relentless crackdown on dissent during the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as reported by CNN.

Navalny’s return to Russia from Germany in 2021, where he was recovering from Novichok poisoning attributed to the Russian government, demonstrated his commitment despite acknowledged risks. Weeks before leaving Germany, he acknowledged the threats he faced, stating, “I understand that Putin hates me, I understand that people in the Kremlin are ready to kill.”

Concerns about Navalny’s health emerged in early April 2023, with reports of severe stomach issues and weight loss. His spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, raised the possibility of gradual poisoning during his time in prison. The Kremlin, however, claimed a lack of capacity or authority to monitor the situation. Putin, consistent in not mentioning Navalny’s name, dismissed media investigations into the 2020 Novichok poisoning as fabrications by Western intelligence.

Navalny’s death raises questions, given his past poisoning and attacks on other Kremlin opponents. In 2006, former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko died in Britain after being poisoned with polonium-210. The nerve agent Novichok nearly claimed the lives of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury in 2018, with Russia denying responsibility. In 2015, Boris Nemtsov, the most visible leader of the opposition, was assassinated on a Moscow bridge. Navalny subsequently took up Nemtsov’s mantle, becoming Russia’s most prominent opposition figure, CNN reported. (ANI)

Traffic Advisory Issued Ahead Of Farmers’ Tractor March

In view of the tractor march in Noida by farmers affiliated with Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Tikait and BKU Lokshakti, the Noida police issued a traffic advisory on Monday morning urging commuters heading to Delhi to use the metro instead of taking roads.

The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police stated that they will conduct thorough checks and erect barriers along all borders from Gautam Buddha Nagar to Delhi, which will likely lead to traffic snarls on routes from Gautam Buddha Nagar to the Delhi border and Yamuna Expressway, including Luharli Toll Plaza. The traffic advisory from Noida police mentioned that emergencies will prompt traffic diversions as necessary.

To mitigate congestion, commuters heading to Delhi are encouraged to utilize metro services. Restrictions on various types of goods vehicles will be enforced along specific routes, such as from Yamuna Expressway to Delhi via Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and from Sirsa to Surajpur via Parichowk.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing farmers’ protest, work to open the road below the Singhu Border flyover, which was sealed in the wake of farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, has begun, according to a Delhi Police source.

The source mentioned that the lanes on the road below the flyover are being opened one by one. The Singhu border, the gateway to Haryana and Punjab, was closed on February 13 due to the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ March.

However, alternative routes were opened for vehicular movements. (ANI)

Jair Bolsonaro former President of Brazil

Former Brazil PM Denies Coup Plot As Thousands Rally In His Support

Jair Bolsonaro, the former President of Brazil, led a massive rally in Sao Paulo on Sunday, vehemently denying accusations of involvement in a coup plot to cling to power, CNN reported.

Thousands of Bolsonaro’s supporters, adorned in the green and gold of Brazil’s national flag, gathered on Paulista Avenue, a key thoroughfare in the nation’s largest city, to express solidarity amid growing legal challenges.

Last week, the far-right populist used social media platform X to call for the protest rally, framing it as a “defence of the democratic rule of law.” Bolsonaro is currently under investigation by the Brazilian Federal Police regarding an alleged coup attempt aimed at retaining power after losing the 2022 presidential election, as confirmed by his lawyer in early February. Former ministers from Bolsonaro’s government are also under scrutiny, and some aides have been arrested, according to CNN.

Despite the mounting legal pressure, Bolsonaro, speaking on Sunday, maintained that he is a target of persecution, refraining from directly mentioning the investigating institutions. In 2022, Brazil’s highest electoral court barred Bolsonaro from seeking political office until 2030, citing abuses of power and misuse of public media during the election campaign.

Following Bolsonaro’s narrow defeat to leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, his supporters rioted and breached government buildings in Brasilia on January 8, 2023. Bolsonaro, however, denies any role in inciting the violent attacks in the capital. During Sunday’s rally, he called for parliamentary amnesty for those imprisoned in Brasilia in connection with the January 8 disturbances.

Bolsonaro was seen waving an Israeli flag during the rally, a move intended as opposition to Lula da Silva.

The former president had previously drawn controversy by comparing Israel’s offensive on Gaza to the Holocaust. The political atmosphere in Brazil remains charged, with Bolsonaro using public appearances to rally his base amid the ongoing investigations and legal challenges, CNN reported. (ANI)

Shoaib Bashir

Bashir Becomes Second Youngest For England To Grab Maiden Five-For In Tests

England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir became the second youngest bowler to grab a five-for in Tests for the Three Lions after a fantastic performance on the third day of the fourth Test against India at JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday.

Aged just 20 years and 135 days, Bashir picked up five wickets in his spell, dismissing the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Ravindra Jadeja, apart from tail-ender Akash Deep. The youngster bowled a total of 44 overs in his spell, conceding 119 runs while sending down eight maiden overs.

Earlier, leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed recorded similar bowling heroics, taking his maiden five-for at the age of just 18 years and 128 days against Pakistan in the 2022 series at Karachi. The Pakistan-born spinner picked up his wickets at the expense of just 48 runs.

Meanwhile, at Stumps on Day 3, India were sitting pretty at 40/0, chasing 152 runs more to win the five-match series. Skipper Rohit Sharma (24) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16) were unbeaten at the crease when the stumps were drawn.

In their second innings, England was bundled out for just 145 runs, with Zak Crawley (60 in 91 balls, with seven fours) and Jonny Bairstow (30 in 42 balls, with three fours) offering some resistance.

The spinners, hunting in a pack on a surface that offered plenty to them, took all the 10 wickets to fall for England, with the talismanic Ravichandran Ashwin recording yet another five-for and Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja coming up with the perfect supporting act.

Riding on Ashwin’s 5/51 and Kuldeep’s 4/22, the hosts flattened the visitors for under 150. The hosts, thereby, were set a target of 191 runs to take an unassailable 3-1 series lead.

Earlier, India was bundled out for 307 in their first innings in reply to England’s total of 353. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal coming up with the goods yet again with 73 off 117 balls, laced with eight fours and a six, the hosts were reduced to 219/7.

Reviving Indian hopes from a point where the hosts were at risk of conceding a healthy lead to the visitors, wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel (90 in 149 balls, with six fours and four sixes) produced a sensational rearguard knock in the company of Kuldeep (28 off 131 balls). The two came together for a 76-run stand for the eighth wicket, dragging India past 300.

Bashir found purchase in the surface and recorded his maiden five-wicket haul. Supporting his figures of 5/119, Tom Hartley (3/68) and James Anderson (2/48) also produced the goods with the ball.

England chose to bat first after winning the toss, putting 353 runs on the board in their first innings, largely riding on a century by former skipper and batting mainstay Joe Root (122* off 274 balls, 10 fours), a half-century from Ollie Robinson (58 off 96 balls, with nine fours and a six) and a fine rearguard effort from keeper-bat Ben Foakes (47 in 126 balls, with four boundaries and a six).

Ravindra Jadeja (4/67) and Akash Deep (3/83) were the pick of the bowlers for India. (ANI)

Tejashwi Bihar

No One Taking Bihar CM Seriously: Tejashwi

Questioning the delay in the cabinet expansion of the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav said that no one in the state is taking Bihar Chief Minister seriously adding that common people and his own party leaders are tired of Janata Dal (United) chief.

Speaking to reporters in Patna, former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said, ” This is a big question. Cabinet expansion has not been done in one month. What is the reason behind this? All important works are getting delayed. CM should answer about this.”

Tejashwi Yadav said that Nitish Kumar is yet to decide on the school timings in the State and claimed that a government official is “not agreeing with the opinion of Bihar Chief Minister” and due to this reason, no decision has been made in the matter.

“There have also been discussions regarding the school timings but the state govt has not done anything. Nitish Kumar made a statement in Vidhan Sabha that changes will be made in the timings. When cold wave gripped Bihar, in a cabinet meeting we told him that timings should be changed. But an official is not listening to the Chief Minister. This shows that no one is taking CM Nitish Kumar seriously. Common people and party leaders are tired of CM Nitish Kumar,” he said.

On remarks made by Jitan Ram Manjhi that he repaid the favour by supporting Nitish Kumar on making him the Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav said that Hindustani Awam Morcha founder did not say anything wrong.

“Earlier we (RJD) made him the Chief Minister. They were the third biggest party. This time a party which has four MLAs made him the Chief Minister. Remove their four votes and the count would have been 121,” he said.

Earlier in January, Nitish, who had reportedly gone into a sulk after not being named the convenor of INDIA, the Opposition bloc that took shape through his efforts, dumped the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) in Bihar and the national coalition to form a new government with the support of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Later, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government won the floor test in the Bihar Assembly with the support of 129 MLAs. The majority mark in Bihar is 122. Three MLAs of RJD crossed over and voted in favour of NDA. (ANI)

Two others are admitted to the ICU with gunshot wounds on the shoulder, thigh, and left side of the chest. Former MLA Nafe Singh and another person Jaikishan were brought dead. They were shot in the neck, back, and shoulder. Multiple wounds suggest there were multiple rounds of fire. Sudden major vessel damage causes heavy blood loss and eventually, heart attack,” he said.

Reacting to the killing of Nafe Singh Rathee, former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that various MLAs were being threatened and ransom was being demanded from them.

“Even before this, miscreants had targeted MLAs, threatened to kill them and demanded ransom. Just a few days ago, an incident of firing and ransom demand took place in Gohana,” he said.

The opposition leader paid a heartfelt tribute to Nafe Singh Rathee and expressed deep condolences to the family.

The miscreants came in a car and fired indiscriminately killing Nafe Singh and party worker at Bahadurgarh, tehsil in the Jhajjar district of Haryana.

Ashwin IND vs ENG 4th Test

IND vs ENG, 4th Test: Ashwin’s takes Fifer, India Set 192 (Day 3, Stumps)

A five-wicket haul by spinner Ravichandran Ashwin helped India bundle out England for just 145 runs in their second innings and get a target of 192 runs to seal the series on day three of the fourth Test at Ranchi on Sunday.

India ended the day at 40/0, with skipper Rohit Sharma (24) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16) unbeaten.

England started the final session at 120/5, with Jonny Bairstow (30) and Ben Foakes (0) unbeaten.

Ravindra Jadeja struck for India at the very first ball of the session and from then on, it opened the floodgates. Bairstow had a lapse of concentration and he handed an easy catch to Rajat Patidar at covers for just 30 in 42 balls. England was 120/6.

Tom Hartley and Ollie Robinson looked to give England a brief respite from these quick wickets, but Kuldeep Yadav’s spin continued its magic, first removing Hartley for just seven after being caught by Sarfaraz Khan and then he trapped Robinson leg-before-wicket for zero. England was 133/8.

Then veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had his moment, registering his first major success of the series. Dismissing Ben Foakes (17) and James Anderon (0) in the same over, he got his five-wicket haul, his first in the series. England was bundled out for 145 and set India a target of 192 runs to win.

Ashwin (5/51) and Kuldeep (4/22) led a major spin assault on England batters and Ravindra Jadeja also took a wicket. All ten wickets were taken by spinners.

India came out with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma starting the run-chase of 192 runs. Rohit targeted Hartley and hit him for some boundaries. India ended the final session without a loss of a wicket.

Earlier, Ashwin and Kuldeep spun a web as England lost five wickets early in the second session of the ongoing fourth Test to put India in control of proceedings at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday.

At the time of Tea, England’s score read 120/5 – lead by 166 runs- with Jonny Bairstow (30) and Ben Foakes (0) standing unbeaten at the crease. India ended the second session on a great note as the hosts pulled their way right back into this match after a flurry of wickets.

Early in the second session, star spinner Ashwin provided India with two back-to-back breakthroughs as he dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on consecutive deliveries.

Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, England gained momentum as Zak Crawley started dealing in boundaries.

India turned to Mohammed Siraj after starting with 15 overs of spin from both ends, however, England kept the momentum in their favour.

In the 17th over of the game, Ashwin sent dangerous batter Joe Root packing with a full and straight delivery off the final ball.

Crawley continued his blistering form and slammed his third half-century of the series. The English batters rotated the strike brilliantly, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls on offer.

A cracker from Kuldeep helped India spring in their step again as he removed well-set batter Crawley for 60. Crawley stepped back at a beauty that skidded through, beat the bat and smashed into the middle stump.

Kuldeep got the main man as he removed captain Ben Stokes for 4. The ball stayed low and Stokes had no answer for it, seeing it hit his shin and then spin back through his legs to hit the stumps, leaving England tottering at 120/5 at Tea.

Earlier, at lunch, India ended their first inning at 307 and trailed by 46 runs after Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav played a 76-run partnership.

Day three started with Kuldeep and Dhruv Jurel on the crease. Both the Indians were playing calmly and slowly putting runs on the scoreboard at a time when the hosts were under pressure.

Jurel and Kuldeep helped India to cross the 250-run mark in the 86th over. However, James Anderson made the first breakthrough of the day after he dismissed Kuldeep for 28 runs for 131 balls in the 89th. The off-spinner smashed 2 fours as well.

India moved past the 300 runs mark in the 101.6 overs after playing 618 balls. After the dismissal, India failed to build another partnership in their first inning. Later in the 101st over, Shoaib Bashir removed Akash Deep for 9 runs from 29 balls. With Deep’s wicket, Bashir bagged his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

Bashir was the main man to keep a check on India’s run rate and put England in the driver’s seat.

Jurel claimed his first fifty in the first ball of the 90th over. However, the youngster was unlucky to hit a century as he was dismissed by Tom Hartley for 90 runs from 149 balls and ended India’s first inning. Jurel smashed 6 fours and 4 sixes with a strike rate of 60.40.

On the other hand, Bashir led the English bowling attack with his fifer. While Hartley bagged three wickets as he gave away 68 runs.

Brief Scores: India: 307 and 40/0 (Rohit Sharma 24*, Yashasvi Jaiswal) need to score 152 more runs against England: 353 and 145 (Zak Crawley 60, Jonny Bairstow 30, Ravichandran Ashwin 5/51). (ANI)
