BJP’s ‘400-Paar’ Has Flopped On Day 1 Of The Polls: Tejashwi

After the completion of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the BJP’s “400 paar” film has become a super flop on the first day itself.

Tejashwi Yadav told ANI that there is no competition in the first phase as Bihar will give shocking results this time.

“The Mahagathbandhan is winning all four seats in the first phase. We have held block wise meetings and the feedback that has come is very good the BJP’s “400 paar” film has become a super flop on the first day itself. The people of Bihar are aware and will teach them a lesson,” he said.

“There is no competition in the first phase. We have said many times before that Bihar will give shocking results this time. They have not done anything for the people of Bihar. The promises made by Modi ji in 2014 and 2019 were not fulfilled. Now the public is tired of their statements and false promises. We have promised that we will give special package to Bihar along with special status,” Tejashwi added.

Further, former Bihar Chief Minister pointed out that the local issues hold dominance in this election.

“Today our rally is with Rahul Gandhi ji in Bhagalpur. The entire Mahagathbandhan and INDIA bloc are working together. Unemployment is the biggest issue in Bihar. Inflation, poverty, investment in the state is an issue. Migration and floods are also issues. This time the people of BJP are very worried. They say that they will abolish the Constitution. Those who destroy the Constitution will themselves be destroyed,” Tejashwi said.

Meanwhile, according to the Election Commission, voter turnout in Bihar was recorded at 48.88 per cent in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election.

In Phase 1, voting on four seats- Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, and Aurangabad concluded on Friday.

The state will witness polling on five seats from Phase 2 to Phase 5. In Phases 6 and 7, elections will be held for eight seats each.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA, composed of the BJP, JD(U) (Janata Dal-United), and LJP (Lok Janshakti Party), secured victory by winning 39 out of 40 seats.

While the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD Rashtriya Janata Dal), INC (Indian National Congress), and RLSP (Radhtriya Lok Samta Party), only managed to win one seat. (ANI)

Ram Navami Processions Were Attacked: Yogi On TMC, Mamata

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for clashes during Ram Navami in Murshidabad. He blamed TMC for the attack on Ram Navami processions and hurting the ‘Sanatan’ faith.

“Ram Navami celebrations and processions were conducted safely in all the states ruled by the BJP, but due to the TMC government of West Bengal, Ram Navami processions were attacked there and efforts were made to hurt ‘Sanatan’ faith. We should not forget that the first condition of good governance is the rule of law and there is no hesitation in saying that under the leadership and guidance of Modi ji, the BJP has improved security within the country and the state governments of the BJP have also improved security within the states.”

Earlier on Thursday West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the BJP orchestrated the recent clash in Murshidabad on Wednesday.

Reportedly, clashes broke out during a Ram Navami procession in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, resulting in numerous injuries on Wednesday.

“I am challenging and saying that BJP orchestrated the incident that happened the other day… If I ask the BJP commission why they removed their DIG one day before Ram Navami,? Was it to plan this?” CM Banerjee said this at a public rally in Raiganj.

CM Yogi stated that Rajasthan would contribute to BJP’s victory with a significant majority by embracing Modi’s model of nationalism, development, security, and good governance.

“Rajasthan will contribute to the victory of BJP with a huge majority by accepting Modi ji’s model of nationalism, development, security and good governance,” he said.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh expressed confidence that the BJP will perform well in Rajasthan’s Lok Sabha elections, as it did in the previous elections.

“I have full confidence that in the last Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan, 25 seats were given to the BJP, this time also Rajasthan will give a 100% result in favour of the BJP,” he said. (ANI)

Iraq Iran

Explosions Rock Pro-Iran Military Base In Iraq

At least three people were injured following five explosions at a pro-Iran military base in Iraq on Saturday, CNN reported, citing a security official.

However, the reason behind the explosions is not known as yet.

The blasts, notably, took place at a site belonging to the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), as per Muhannad al-Anazi, a member of the Security Committee in Babylon Governorate, south of Baghdad.

The investigation into the blasts that occurred “at the Kalsu military base in the Al-Mashrou district on the highway, north of the Babylon Governorate,” is underway.

Israeli and US officials said neither was involved in the blast, a day after a military strike on Iran which has been attributed to Israel.

Known alternatively as the Popular Mobilization Forces, the PMU is an Iraqi paramilitary group that is mostly supported by Shiite Iran. The PMU, in contrast to other Iran-backed organizations in the area, is affiliated with the local administration and has strong ties to Shiite blocs in Iran that have dominated Iraqi politics for a long time, according to CNN.

The explosion occurred during a period of intense tension in the Middle East as Israel fights Hamas in Gaza following the terrorist organization’s deadly assault into southern Israel on October 7, which was sponsored by Iran.

This month’s tit-for-tat strikes have also exposed Israel and Iran’s long-running covert conflict.

Israel launched a potentially deadly military strike on Iran early on Friday, a US official told CNN. Although no significant damage was recorded, Iran and Israel have not stated where the strike originated.

Iran’s air defence systems were activated in several locations after multiple explosions were heard close to the airport and an army base in the Iranian city of Isfahan, state media reported early Friday morning.

The missile launches come after Iran launched an offensive on targets around Israel on Saturday last week, according to Israeli military authorities, in which the nation fired a barrage of over 300 unmanned drones and missiles. (ANI)

Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Elon: Tesla Obligations Require India Visit To Be Delayed

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has delayed his trip to India. In a post replying to a news report that cited the delay of his India Trip, Elon Musk posted on X “Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year.”

Musk, was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his India visit. Last week, the Tesla CEO confirmed his upcoming maiden visit to India, saying he looked forward to meeting PM Modi.

Taking to his official handle, Musk had posted on X, “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister @NarendraModi in India!”

Musk was also expected to disclose details of the automobile major’s plans for the country, going forward.

It was reported earlier that Tesla officials were exploring potential sites in India for a manufacturing plant, which is anticipated to necessitate an investment of approximately USD 2 billion. Tesla’s interest in expanding its presence in the Indian market has intensified, with the company actively searching for a suitable location to establish a cutting-edge manufacturing facility.

According to sources, both the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat have reportedly extended attractive land offers to Tesla for this purpose, signalling significant progress in India’s electric mobility landscape. The proposed manufacturing plant, with estimated investments ranging from USD 2 billion to USD 3 billion, aims to cater to both domestic and international demand for Tesla’s electric vehicles. This move aligns with India’s new EV policy, which seeks to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

Under the government’s EV scheme, which aims to position India as a preferred manufacturing destination for EVs equipped with advanced technology, several key objectives have been outlined. These include attracting investments from global EV manufacturers, promoting the adoption of advanced EV technology among Indian consumers, and bolstering the country’s Make in India initiative. Moreover, Tesla’s entry into the Indian market holds immense promise for the country’s economy and environment.

The establishment of a manufacturing plant and increased procurement of auto parts from India are expected to create jobs, foster economic growth, and strengthen the domestic manufacturing ecosystem. (ANI)

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav vowed to scrap the Agniveer scheme if the opposition coalition, the INDIA bloc, comes to power.

“I want to tell the youth that the day the INDIA bloc comes to power, we will scrap the Agniveer scheme,” the SP chief said while addressing a public rally in UP’s Gautam Budh Nagar on Friday.

“BJP’s first show on the first day has become a flop. Nobody is liking BJP’s story or dialogues. Their first show has become a flop. No one is coming to the ticket window,” he said.

Earlier this month, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Indian Army was against the idea of Agnipath scheme adding that this policy was a brainchild of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all decisions regarding it were taken in the Prime Minister Office.

Congress, in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls has promised to abolish Agnipath Scheme and return to the normal recruitment processes followed by the Army, Navy and Air Force. “It will guarantee economic and social security for our soldiers,” the manifesto read.

Iran and Israel

Iran Doesn’t Recognise An Entity Like Israel To Be A Country: Diplomat

Acting Consul General of Iran to Mumbai, Davoud Rezaei Eskandari, said that they do not recognise “an entity like Israel” as a country.

Highlighting the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, Rezaei Eskandari claimed that after Iran’s victory in Iraq, they proposed a solution for the Palestinian cause.

Further, he said that the Palestinian people, including Muslims, Jews and Christians, should have an election and whatever they decide, it should be it.

“We don’t recognise an entity like Israel to be a country. After the Islamic Republic of Iran’s victory in Iraq, we have proposed a very reasonable solution for the Palestinian cause. It’s very democratic and we have proposed a democratic solution that all those belonging to the Palestinian land–Muslims, even Jews and Christians, all those who are there and all those who have been forced to migrate come there, have an election and whatever they decide, that’s that,” Eskandari told ANI.

“We believe that with such a decision, there wouldn’t be any Israeli country,” he added.

The Iran-Iraq War was a war between Iran and Iraq that lasted from September 22, 1980, to August 20, 1988. The war began when Iraq, under dictator Saddam Hussein, invaded Iran under Ayatollah Khomeini to gain control of the Shatt al-Arab river, annexing the oil-rich Iranian province of Khuzestan, and permanently weakening the Iranian military. The war ended in a stalemate and a UN ceasefire with no side gaining any meaningful victory.

Meanwhile, Israel launched missile strikes against Tehran during the early hours of Friday morning (local time), ABC News reported, citing a senior US official.

However, the official could not confirm whether Syria and Iraq sites were hit as well. The report came shortly after local sources reported blasts in the Isfahan region in central Iran.

The missile launches come after Iran launched an offensive on targets around Israel on Saturday last week, according to Israeli military authorities, in which the nation fired a barrage of over 300 unmanned drones and missiles.

Noting the US sanctions on Iran following the attack, Eskandari said that these sanctions were started almost after Iran’s victory, adding that these sanctions did not have the result and that because of these sanctions, Iran has been able to achieve great progress in different areas.

“…This sanction is almost after the victory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, they started this sanction. And after also 45 years of this sanction…they are claiming that this sanction didn’t have the result and outcomes that they were thinking about. And so because of this sanction, we have been able to make great progress in different areas…,” he said.

Highlighting India-Iran friendship, Eskandari said, “We are thankful to our friends for the Indo-Iranian Friendship Forum…there are lots of commonalities between Iran and India…”

He further said that India’s reputation of supporting the Palestinian people is an asset for New Delhi.

“We believe India historically has had a very good reputation of being a neutral country. And when we are coming to the Palestinian… India has a very good reputation for supporting the people of Palestine. I think is an asset for India,” he said. (ANI)

PDP Manifesto

PDP Manifesto For LS Polls Focuses On Women, Youth in JK

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday released the party’s manifesto “Apna Vote, Apno Kay Liye” for the Lok Sabha elections and vowed to empower women and youth.

After releasing the party’s manifesto, Mehbooba Mufti said that they are not a big party so they released a small manifesto to cater to the needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The biggest responsibility as of now is to go to Parliament and to give a voice to the pain of the people of the state. Land-related laws that were under the state list were changed, which led to our resources, be it electricity, water, or lithium, being gifted to outsiders. Contracts for the developmental work are being given to outsiders,” Mufti said.

She further alleged that instead of providing jobs, people are being removed from their jobs.

“For the last 5 years, many youths have been in jail without any evidence and no one is talking about it. Horticulture has been negatively affected. Traders are being raided through ED, CBI, I-T,” she added.

The party vowed to improve road connectivity and said that every year, as winter approaches, large parts of J-K find themselves isolated due to severed connectivity.

“There is an urgent need for the construction of the Mughal road tunnel, the Saadhna tunnel and the Rajdhaani tunnel to enhance regional connectivity. This will be pursued with the central government,” the PDP manifesto read.

The party said that part of the MPLAD fund will go towards strengthening these skill centres by providing tailoring machines, laptops and digital devices for women.

“Every woman dreams of being self sufficient and able enough to stand on her own feet. This is where skill centres play a crucial role. Even though there are many across J-K most lack adequate facilities. A part of my MPLAD fund will go towards strengthening these skill centres by providing tailoring machines, laptops and digital devices. Our school going girls face inconvenience on a daily basis owing to the lack of toilets in schools. Funds will be devoted to this purpose so that their education doesn’t suffer. Unlike men, women are confined to the four walls of their homes. I intend to create parks for them wherever space is available,” it added.

The pervasive challenge of lack of access to clean drinking water persists, particularly in remote and far-flung regions, it stated.

“It is exacerbated by the disproportionate burden placed upon women, who often bear the responsibility of fetching water. MPLAD funds will be dedicated to establishing tube-wells to address this pressing problem,” it said.

The party promises to ensure that recreational facilities like playgrounds are built and sports equipment, along with laptops and digital devices, is distributed to the youth at educational institutions and skill centres.

“After the unilateral and illegal revocation of J-Ks special status, its youth have been the first and worst sufferers of a slew of GOI’s unilateral and draconian policies and decisions. Through my MPLAD fund. I will ensure we build recreational facilities like playgrounds and distribute sports equipment, along with laptops and digital devices, at educational institutions and skill centres,” the party said.

The party would allocate funds towards purchasing laptops and computers to strengthen the infrastructure in these schools.

“Government schools often lack digital devices, which are crucial for learning in today’s virtual world. Funds will be allocated towards purchasing laptops and computers to strengthen the infrastructure in these schools. Laptops and digital devices for government and government aided educational institutions,” the party said.

“Often, families encounter challenges in securing appropriate venues for hosting marriage ceremonies and other significant functions. The MPLAD fund will be utilised for the establishment of multiple marriage halls, thus providing affordable spaces for such gatherings,” it added.

The PDP said that they would assertively seek the return of J-Ks power projects and advocate for free electricity or purchasing it at subsided rates.

“We will assertively seek the return of J-Ks power projects and advocate for free electricity or purchasing it at subsided rates. Projects for lighting public streets and places – Large parts of J&K remain engulfed in darkness. Funds will be directed towards installing street lights,” it said.

“We are committed to implementing comprehensive waste management and collection services. The region currently grapples with significant challenges pertaining to waste disposal. Through

strategic initiatives and coordinated efforts we aim to address these pressing issues and establish effective waste management systems to ensure environmental sustainability and public health,” the party said.

Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 began on Friday across 102 parliamentary constituencies spread over 21 states and Union Territories as the mega seven-phase electoral exercise commenced at 7:00 am.

Udhampur encompasses an expansive area of 16,707 square kilometers. It consists of 18 assembly segments spanning five districts — Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur and Kathua.

The constituency, which was reshaped with three assembly constituencies of Reasi district carved out on the recommendations of the delimitation commission in 2022, had recorded 70.2 per cent polling in Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

The BJP has given a fresh ticket to sitting Udhampur MP and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who has been representing the constituency in the Lok Sabha since 2014 when he defeated then-Congress leader and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Prominent among others in the fray include Congress leader and two-time former Member of Parliament Choudhary Lal Singh and DPAP’s G M Saroori besides Six independents.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won three seats while the National Conference won the remaining three. (ANI)

The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA)

SC Give Authorities To Decide Within 3-Day Application For Permission To Conduct Yatras For Elections

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the competent authorities to decide within three days the applications filed seeking permission for conducting ‘yatras’ or public meetings aimed at educating people on elections.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, in its interim order, said such applications made to the competent authority should be decided within three days from the date of making the application.

The apex court has posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

The apex court was hearing a petition seeking to quash prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC issued solely on the grounds of impending elections.

The plea filed by social workers Aruna Roy and Nikhil Dey sought direction to restrain the indiscriminate practice of magistrates and State governments to pass “blanket orders” under section 144 of the CrPC to prohibit meetings, gatherings, processions or ‘dharnas’ ahead of every Lok Sabha or Assembly election and until the declaration of results.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) deals with the power to issue orders in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger.

“These blanket prohibitory orders directly prevent civil society and general public from freely discussing, participating, organising, or mobilising on issues affecting them ahead of elections,” the petition stated.

During the hearing, advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioners, told the bench that in the last six months, blanket orders under section 144 of CrPC have been issued for the whole duration of elections, from the time of the election announcement by the Election Commission until the end of elections.

Such orders prohibit all kinds of assemblies, meetings and demonstrations during the duration of elections, Bhushan added.

The bench expressed surprise over blanket orders being issued to prohibit any assembly during the polls and asked, “How can such orders be passed.”

Bhushan said the petitioners had applied for permission to conduct a ‘yatra’ to educate voters about their democratic rights during last year’s Assembly election, but permission was not granted. He further said that the authorities must decide on such applications within a stipulated time.

“The conduct of elections, being the ostensible reason for invoking Section 144 – is neither a valid ground recognised under Section 144, nor an emergent situation to justify the imposition of sweeping prohibitory orders. Section 144 orders–of the kind impugned herein–have been passed mechanically, without any material or exigency to justify prohibition on the general public, and amount to an illegal interference with the right to vote,” the petition stated.

The petitioners said that these prohibitions apply to all persons, including those who do not belong to a political party or candidate, irrespective of the agenda or purpose, and are held at any place within the municipal limits, including community grounds and halls.

“Thus, the scope of prohibitions is wide and sweeping, and it potentially hinders civil society from mobilising and creating awareness amongst the voters in a time-bound manner, which will in turn help voters exercise their right to vote in its truest form,” added the plea.

The petitioners contend that these blanket orders under Section 144, issued solely on the ground of the impending general elections, are “manifestly illegal and unconstitutional.” (ANI)
