Actor Sahil Khan was brought to Mumbai from Chhattisgarh on Sunday after being detained by the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Special Investigative Team (SIT) in connection with the Mahadev Betting app case.

“I believe in the judiciary of the country,” Khan told reporters as he was escorted by security officials.

He was presented before a court today, which has sent him to police custody till May 1.

Mumbai Police has also seized actor Sahil Khan’s passport as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

Khan was apprehended on Saturday from Chhattisgarh, where he had reportedly been evading authorities for nearly 40 hours. His attempts to secure a pre-arrest bail failed as the Bombay High Court rejected his plea.

Khan had fled Mumbai, constantly changing his location to evade authorities.

The actor stands accused of running a betting site and promoting illegal betting activities. His name surfaced during the investigation of the Mehadev betting app case by the Matunga Police in Mumbai.

The Bombay High Court had granted him anticipatory bail on the condition of cooperation with police interrogation, which Khan failed to comply with, leading to this development.

The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) tracked down Sahil Khan in Chhattisgarh, where he was subsequently apprehended.

Officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch revealed that Sahil Khan was not cooperating with the interrogation process.

The case, initially registered at Mumbai’s Matunga Police Station, involves over 38 individuals, including Khan, embroiled in a betting scandal. The alleged size of the scam is estimated to be around Rs 15,000 crore, as per the first information report (FIR) filed in the case.

Among those implicated in the FIR are names like Mustakim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Saurabh Chandrakar, Ravi Upal, Shubham Soni, and several others.

Notably, chief accused, Ravi Uppal, was detained in Dubai last year by local authorities. According to the sources, the arrest was made by Dubai police based on a red corner notice issued by Interpol at the behest of ED.

Sahil Khan, known for his roles in films like ‘Style’ and ‘Excuse Me’, has transitioned into the fitness industry in recent years.

Initially handled by the local police, the matter was later transferred to the Crime Branch’s cyber cell for further investigation, eventually leading to the formation of the SIT. (ANI)

Amid the impending hostage deal, thousands of protesters rallied across Israel against the government on Saturday night, following the release of videos by Hamas showing signs of life from several Israeli hostages held captive by them, according to The Times of Israel.

The hostage families and anti-government protesters in Jerusalem came together, organising a strong-march throughout the heart of the city. The protest also had speeches, which were delivered on Ben Yehuda Street there.

Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, three separate protests converged near Azrieli Mall while dozens of demonstrators led by some hostage relatives attempted to block Ayalon Highway, spelling out the word “halas [enough]” by igniting fires on the road, according to The Times of Israel.

The police officials said that they arrested seven protesters on Saturday evening.

The father of Omri Miran, one of the two hostages seen in the propaganda video released by the Hamas, said that he is worried about his son’s condition. He narrated the ordeal of how his son was taken captive by the Hamas in front of crowd of thousands in Israel.

In the edited three-minute video released by Hamas, Miran and fellow inmate Keith Siegel introduce themselves, address their families, and express their hope for a solution that would allow them to return home with the other captives, according to The Times of Israel.

After protests held by hostages’ families and an anti-government rally convened outside Azrieli mall in Tel Aviv, demonstrators began running down Begin Street, bypassing police barriers and skirmishing with law enforcement. (ANI)

Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely has resigned from his post, party officials on Sunday said.

“The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of leveling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party. Despite that, the Party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi…,” Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.

Lovely was appointed to the post in August 2023.

In his letter to the Congress National President, Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely said that all unanimous decisions taken by the Senior Delhi Congress leaders have been unilaterally vetoed by the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge).

“Since my appointment as DPCC President, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed me to make any senior appointments in the DPCC. My request for the appointment of a veteran leader as Media head of DPCC was blatantly rejected. To date, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed the DPCC to appoint all Block presidents in the city. Resultantly more than 150 blocks in Delhi do not presently have a Block President,” he said.

Further, he said that despite Aam Aadmi Party accusing the Congress over corruption, the party allied (INDIA bloc) with them.

“The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a Party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party and in turn, whose half of the cabinet ministers are presently in jail on corruption charges. Despite that, the Party decided to ally with the AAP in Delhi,” Lovely said in his letter to Kharge.

“We respected the Party’s final decision. Not only did I publicly back the decision, I also ensured that the full State Unit fell in line with the High Command’s final order. On instructions from AICC General Secretary (Organisation), I even went to the extent of visiting Kejriwal’s residence on the night of his Arrest along with Subash Chopra and Sandeep Dikshit, despite the same being against my position on the matter,” he added.

The former DPCC President also pointed out that pursuant to the alliance, the Delhi Congress was allotted three Parliamentary Seats to fight in the present General Elections.

He also highlighted the comments made by the North-East Delhi candidate (Kanhaiya Kumar), for falsely praising the Delhi CM and endorsing the works done by AAP in the Education, Health, Road and Electricity sector.

“Such ill-thought and factually incorrect statements have not gone down well with the Local Party Unit since, the local party workers had an inherent understanding that the alliance was not done in appreciation of AAP’s false propaganda of the development of Delhi and was in fact, a “compromise- to improve the chances of victory for the Party as part of the National Alliance,” he said.

Lovely, said that since he cannot protect the interests of the Party Workers, he sees no reason to continue in the said post.(ANI)

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has headed to China on Sunday on a surprise visit to the country, which is also the second biggest market of the electric vehicle giant, news agency Reuters reported citing two people with knowledge of the matter.

Musk’s visit to China comes a week after his visit to India was postponed due to ‘Tesla obligations.’ He was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announce plans to enter the Indian market.

Meanwhile, as of now, Musk is seeking to meet senior Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss the rollout of Full-Self Driving (FSD) software in China and to obtain approval to transfer data collected in the country abroad to train algorithms for its autonomous driving technologies, Reuters said, citing one of the two people.

In response to a query on social media platform X, the Musk stated that Tesla may make FSD available to customers in China “very soon.” Notably, Musk’s visit to China was not made prominently visible in public eyes.

According to Reuters, Tesla, since 2021, has stored all data collected by its Chinese fleet in Shanghai as required by Chinese regulators and has not transferred any, back to the United States.

The US EV maker rolled out FSD, the most autonomous version of its Autopilot software, four years ago but has yet to make it available in China despite customers urging it to do so. (ANI)

Talking up hopes of the lotus blooming in Mamata’s Bengal, BJP national president JP Nadda said on Monday the BJP will register thumping wins in the more than 35 constituencies in the state as the people were fed with the ‘anarchy’ in the state under the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Coming down heavily on the TMC regime over the alleged abuse and excesses on women, as well as charges of land-grab in Sandeshkhali, Nadda said it was ‘painful’ to see women coming out on the streets and saying that they were being threatened by goons enjoying the patronage of the ruling party in the state.

In a personalised video address on Sunday, the BJP national chief said, “We have seen how on the watch of the Mamata Banerjee government, the state is being overrun by strongmen and goons, and how the likes of (Sheikh) Shahjahan were intimidating women and posing a threat to their safety in Sandeshkhali. The prevailing situation, in a nutshell, is sensitive and painful. Teams from central investigating agencies, which went to Sandeshkhali to protect the honour and dignity of women, were thwarted and attacked.”

On the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the house of a person allegedly linked to a TMC leader, who is believed to be a close aide of Shahjahan, the key Sandeshkhai accused who is currently behind bars in connection with the attack on an ED team earlier, Nadda asked if Mamata’s ‘strongmen’ were threatening people at gunpoint for votes in the ongoing general elections.

“Is this how Mamata Banerjee is planning to win these elections? By threatening the public? Was this the idea and vision for Bengal that the likes of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindra Nath Tagore, and Swami Vivekananda had put forward?” Nadda questioned.

Asserting that Sandeshkali has emerged as a symbol of resistance against the ‘cruelty’ and ‘ruthlessness’ of the Mamata regime, Nadda said the people will give the ruling party in the state a befitting reply in the ongoing elections.

“During the searches in Sandeshkhali, the joint team of the CBI and NSG bomb squads recovered 3 foreign-made revolvers, 1 revolver used by the state police, several bullets, and cartridges. The NSG commandos were also at the scene to protect the people in Sandeshkhali (while the searches were underway). The arms recovery and the state of fear among the people tell us how the Mamata government is spreading anarchy in Bengal. The public will give you (Mamata) a befitting reply, as the BJP will win more than 35 seats in the state,” Nadda added.

Amid polling in Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday, the CBI, along with NSG bomb squads, carried out searches at two premises in Sandeshkhali and the North 24 Parganas district in connection with its probe into the attack on a team from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) earlier. During the raids, the joint team recovered a large number of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistol and revolvers.

The team recovered three foreign-made revolvers, one Indian-made revolver, one Colt revolver used by the state police, one foreign-made pistol, one countrymade pistol, 120 09 mm bullets, 50 .45 calibre cartridges, 120 09 mm calibre cartridges, 50 .380 cartridges and eight .32 cartridges, the agency stated.

Besides these, several other incriminating documents related to Sheikh Shahjahan were also recovered, according to the agency. Some items suspected to be countrymade explosives, which were also found during the searches, were disabled or disposed of, the agency informed.

However, the ruling Trinamool Congress lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of the state on Saturday over the raids in Sandeshkhali, terming it as a BJP ploy and claiming that the weapons were planted to give it the appearance of recovery and seizure.

The ruling party in the state alleged further that the CBI did not issue ‘actionable notice’ to the state government or the police administration before carrying out the raids.

Further, according to the complaint, in the absence of any representative of the state government, the “purported recovery of arms and ammunition” was a ploy by the BJP, which is in cahoots with the CBI and the NSG to “plant such weapons at the site”.

Earlier, hundreds of women on the island came out on the streets, alleging grave excesses and land-grab by Shahjahan and his henchmen.

Polling for the Lok Sabha in the state is being held across all seven phases. (ANI)

The Mumbai Police on Saturday invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all the accused arrested in connection with the firing incident outside superstar Salman Khan’s Bandra residence.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials said that the police have identified gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as the leader of the gang and have added sections of MCOCA in the FIR.

“All accused have been booked under Sections 3(1)(2), 3(1)(3), and 3(1)(4) of MCOCA,” they said.

Mumbai Crime Police have arrested both the shooters, identified as Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta. Two arms suppliers, identified as Sonu Subhash Chander and Anuj Thapan, were also arrested by the police on Friday. Meanwhile, a lookout notice has been issued against Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the case.

On April 14, two men came on a motorcycle, fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, around 5 am, and fled.

Earlier, the Mumbai Police registered a case against four people in the firing case, naming the Bishnoi brothers as key accused. The sections under IPC 506(2) (threatening), 115 (abetment), and 201 (tampering with evidence) have been added to the case.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials said that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been declared wanted accused in connection with the case. Anmol Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the firing outside Salman’s residence in a Facebook post following the attack.

The accused, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, were grilled by officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for several hours on Friday. They were brought to Mumbai on Thursday under transit remand secured by the Crime Branch.

On Thursday, the Esplanade Court extended the police custody of both the accused arrested in connection with the firing incident until April 29. They were produced before the metropolitan magistrate’s court here after their previous remand ended on Thursday and were remanded in custody of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch.

Earlier, the Crime Branch said that it recovered strong evidence against gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi, identifying them as the key conspirators and ‘most wanted’ in the case.

According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, before the firing occurred, the shooters had reached Salman’s residence four times. They had also staked out Salman’s farmhouse, the Crime Branch informed, adding that since the actor hadn’t visited his farmhouse over several days, they planned to execute the firing outside his plush Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra.

The Crime Branch recovered a broken mobile phone from the accused at the time of their arrest, adding that they were in possession of more than one phone. The Crime Branch said that they were looking into the other phones as well. They also mentioned the recovery of the second pistol, along with four magazines and 17 rounds from the Tapi River of Surat.

The sleuths stated earlier that they fished out the pistol from the river on April 22 and also found the footprint of one of the arrested shooters, Vicky Gupta, while he was making a getaway from Mumbai to Gujarat’s Bhuj. The Crime Branch said the shooters disposed of the firearm in the Tapi River near Surat while making their escape.

The police said they were searching for more mobile handsets that they may have disposed of in the river, adding that they moved money to the bank several times.

The involvement of the Bishnoi brothers was corroborated by statements made on social media, where Anmol Bishnoi purportedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials have intensified their efforts to apprehend the wanted individuals and gather further evidence in connection to the case. (ANI)
