Exuding confidence in the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that INDIA bloc will form government at the Centre on June 4, adding that recruitment for 30 lakh vacant government jobs will be started by August 15 after coming into power.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “Youth of the country! The government of INDIA is going to be formed on June 4 and we guarantee that by August 15, we will start recruitment for 30 lakh vacant government posts. Don’t get misled by Narendra Modi’s false propaganda, stick to your issues. Listen to INDIA, Choose jobs, not hate.”

Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi wants to deflect the attention of people from real issues.

“Elections is slipping from his (PM Modi) hands. He has made up his mind to do drama in the next four to five days. He will divert your attention. Modiji had promised to deliver 2 crore jobs but in actuality he implemented wrong GST policies and demonetisation. Government is working for Adanis, we are pledging to start the process of filling 30 lakh vacant government jobs by August 15,” Rahul Gandhi said in a video message.

Congress in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls has promised to fill 30 lakh government vacancies.

“We will fill the nearly 30 lakh vacancies in sanctioned posts at various levels in the central government. We will stipulate that vacancies in the panchayats and municipal bodies shall be filled according to a timetable agreed with state governments,” the manifesto read.

The Lok Sabha election is being held in seven phases till June 1 and votes will be counted on June 4. (ANI)

Pushpa 2 actor Rashmika Mandanna has officially announced her collaboration with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the much-anticipated action thriller ‘Sikandar’.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning.

Both the production house and Rashmika herself confirmed the news.

UmaSofia Srivastava, the current Miss Teen USA, gave up her crown just two days after Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt announced that she had relinquished hers.

Taking to her official social media handle, the 17-year-old UmaSofia opened up on the reasons for relinquishing her crown.

“After careful consideration, l’ve decided to resign as I find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization,” Srivastava shared in a statement on Instagram, adding, “However, I will continue my relentless advocacy for education and acceptance.”

“…grateful for all the support from my family, my state directors, my sister queens, and the fans who have cheered me on since I won my state title. I will always look back on my time as Miss NJ Teen USA fondly, and the experience of representing my state as a first generation, Mexican-Indian American at the national level was fulfilling in itself,” she added.

The pageant winner stated she would focus on completing her junior year in high school “as part of the National Honor Society and start the college application process, knowing that my academic career has been defined by my hard work and my hard work alone”.

Meanwhile, according to Deadline, the organisers of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants issued a joint statement that read, “We respect and support former Miss USA Noelia Voigt’s decision to step down from her duties. Taiwan Ministry of National Defence (MND) said on Thursday that it tracked 23 Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels around Taiwan between 6 am on Wednesday and 6 am on Thursday, Taiwan News reported.

In an official post on X, Taiwan Ministry of National Defense said, “23 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 8 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

According to Taiwan News, of the 23 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, eight crossed the Taiwan Strait median line,

In response, Taiwan sent aircraft and naval ships and deployed coastal-based missile systems to monitor PLA activity.

On May 8, Taiwan’s defence ministry said that it detected 16 Chinese military aircraft and 6 naval vessels encircling it.

In a post on X, MND stated, “16 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 8 of the aircraft entered Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

The MND has issued daily reports on Chinese military activities for the past few years, including identifying those Chinese aircraft, drones, and balloons that are found to have crossed the Taiwan Strait median line to the Taiwan side.

The median line of the Taiwan Strait served for decades as a tacit border between China and Taiwan, but China’s military has more freely sent aircraft, warships and drones across it since former United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August 2022.

So far this month, Taiwan has tracked Chinese military aircraft 98 times and naval vessels 41 times. Since September 2020, China has increased its use of gray zone tactics by incrementally increasing the number of military aircraft and naval ships operating around Taiwan.

Gray zone tactics are defined as “an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that attempts to achieve one’s security objectives without resort to direct and sizable use of force.” (ANI)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday while addressing a public rally in Telangana’s Bhongir, claimed that if BJP comes to power, it will increase the reservation of SC, ST, and OBC and will end the Muslim reservation.

While appealing to the public, Amit Shah said, “Congress wants to fight elections by speaking lies. They say that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes, he will finish the reservation. Prime Minister Modi has been leading this country unanimously for the last 10 years, but he did not end the reservation. However, the Congress party has robbed the reservations of SC, ST and OBC by giving 4 per cent reservation to Muslims.”

He added further, “In 2019, the public of Telangana gave us four seats. This time, we will win more than 10 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. This double-digit score in Telangana will make PM Modi cross 400 seats… Make BJP victorious on more than 10 seats. We will end the Muslim reservation and increase the reservation of SC, ST, and OBC.”

Taking a jibe at Congress’ Rahul Gandhi, Shah said, “In our manifesto, we have given Modi’s guarantees and he does what he says. And the guarantees of Rahul baba doesnt even stay till sunset.”

The Union Home Minister slammed Rahul Gandhi for making promises but not fulfilling them. He said, “Rahul Gandhi promised to forgive the farmer loans but he didn’t, he promised to give Rs 15,000 to farmers but he didn’t fulfil that.”

Amit Shah added further, “He (Rahul Gandhi) promised to give loans of Rs 5 lakh to students without guarantee but didn’t, he didn’t give scooty to girl students as promised by him, and he didn’t open International Schools in every Taluka. The Congress doesn’t fulfil its promises while PM Modi ji fulfils every promise.”

Stepping up his attacks, on the party, Amit Shah said that the Congress party did not fulfil its promises. However, PM Modi abides by his words. “The Congress party halted the construction of Ram Mandir for 70 years. In just five years, PM Modi won the case, performed the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ and did the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony… PM Modi abrogated Article 370 so that the Tricolour will keep flying high in Kashmir till eternity…,” Shah said.

Amit Shah in his speech described Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) as a triangle of appeasement and said, “These people oppose The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), they want to run Telangana on the basis of Quran, they want to bring back Triple Talaq, they also boycotted Pran Pratishtha ceremony.”

Notably, voting for all 17 seats in Telangana will take place on May 13 in the fourth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, with the day of counting and declaration of results scheduled for June 4. (ANI)

Amid the heatwave across vast swathes of the country, including Rajasthan, and a runaway mercury settling at disconcerting levels; the doctors on Thursday issued a word of caution for children and the elderly, especially those battling illnesses or with medical conditions.

Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, a senior heart specialist with Jaipur’s Swai Man Singh Medical College, voiced concern over the sweltering hot weather in the city, saying, “Children and the elderly batting diseases or medical conditions are the most vulnerable in the prevailing heatwave. They should exercise caution and take special care of themselves. They should refrain from stepping outdoors in this heat unless necessary and, if at all, they have to, they should cover themselves suitably and stay hydrated.

“People are advised to wear full-sleeved shirts while stepping outdoors and ensure limited exposure to the hot sun. It is essential to keep themselves hydrated either with water, fruit juices, electrolytes, or ORS. Inadequate consumption of water or fluids could result in a severe downturn in one’s health. One should pay heed to medical advice as a heatstroke can affect multiple human organs. It could also potentially result in strokes and gastrointestinal malfunction. Hence, one is advised to take these simple precautions to avoid health risks,” Dr. Maheshwari added.

Also speaking to ANI, Dr. Manish Agrawal, a senior neurosurgeon with SMS Medical College, said when the maximum temperature hovers in the range of between 44 and 45 °C, people could potentially come down with headaches and also experience nausea.

He added that the prevailing heatwave poses a heatstroke risk for patients suffering from neurological problems. In such situations, hydration and simple precautions such as covering one’s head and avoiding stepping outdoors were the keys to staying healthy, Maheshwari added.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), earlier, predicted a heatwave for Rajasthan. On Wednesday, several parts of Rajasthan recorded a maximum temperature in the range of 43-45°C. (ANI)

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey on Thursday said that BJP leader Navneet Rana and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother always bring the discussion to a “Hindu-Muslim” angle, adding that they are now speaking the same language to “polarise the elections”.

The remarks by Anand Dubey came after BJP leader and Amravati MP Navneet Rana issued a veiled warning to the Owaisi brothers in their stronghold of Hyderabad on Wednesday.

To the AIMIM leader’s statement that they would take them all of ’15 minutes’ to balance out the “Hindu-Muslim ratio” in the country, Navneet, who is seeking a fresh term in the Lok Sabha from Amravati, on a BJP ticket this time; hit back at the Owaisi brothers, saying “it would take us 15 seconds if the police were removed or made to stand down”.

In this regard, Anand Dubey said, “Be it Navneet Rana or Owaisi brothers, they are speaking the same language. Someone is saying, Give me police for fifteen minutes, then we will teach a lesson to Hindus, Someone is saying, Give me police for fifteen seconds, then we will teach a lesson to Muslims. They had to ultimately talk about Hindu-Muslim. Unless they do Hindu-Muslim, India-Pakistan, the BJP’s water does not get digested.”

“BJP distributes certificates of Hindutva and gives knowledge of morality to others but at the same time, it does not control their leaders to stop making such remarks,” he added.

Rana was heard saying in a video clip she posted on her X handle, tagging the Owaisi brothers, “The younger brother says, ‘Remove the police for 15 minutes so that we can show them what we can do’. I want to tell the younger brother (Akbaruddin) that it might take you 15 minutes, but it will only take us 15 seconds. It will take us all of 15 seconds if we come to the forefront.”

Reacting to BJP leader Navneet Rana’s “15-second lagenge” remark, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give her one hour instead of 15 seconds and asserted they are not “scared” of the BJP leader.

“I tell Modi ji – give her 15 seconds. What will you do? Give her 15 seconds, give her 1 hour. We, too, want to see if you have any humanity left in you. Who is scared? We are ready…If someone is making an open call for it, then so be it. PM is yours; RSS is yours; everything is yours. Do it. Who is stopping you? Tell us where we have to come, we will be there. Do it,” Owaisi told reporters on Thursday.

At a meeting in 2013, Akbaruddin warned “100 crore Hindus” that his community would show what it could do if the police were withdrawn for ’15 minutes’.

Also, Navneet Rana, while addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad, said that Pakistan loves Congress and AIMIM.

“If you vote for AIMIM and Congress, it goes directly to Pakistan. The kind of ‘AIMIM prem’ and ‘Rahul prem’ that Pakistan is showing–that defeat Modi and make Rahul win. Just like the Congress government governed the country on the signals of Pakistan, the same Pakistan is today saying that they love Congress and AIMIM,” she said.

The portals of Baba Kedarnath Dham are all set for a grand opening on Friday, after a gap of six months.

Amid the preparations for opening the portals, popular tourist sites such as Sonprayag and Gaurikund are drawing huge crowds, with the majority of them heading in the direction of the Kedarnath Dham.

A significant count of pilgrims gathered in Gaurikund, waiting for their turn to book rides on horses or mules while several others were spotted heading towards the shrine on foot.

Preparations began earlier for the ceremonial opening of the portals of Kedarnath Dham through worship and the chanting of mantras.

According to the president of the Badrinath-Kedarnath temple Committee, the temple has been decorated with 40 quintals of flowers.

Earlier, Lord Kedarnath’s Panchmukhi Doli departed for Kedarnath Dham from its third stop Gauramai Temple in Gaurikund.

On May 6, the Devdoli reached Shri Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath from Shri Vishwanath Temple Guptkashi for its stay and reached its second stop Phata the day after, on May 7.

This year, the Char Dham Yatra will begin on May 10, with the opening of three of the four shrines–Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath. The portals of the Badrinath Dham will open on May 12.

The Char Dham Yatra holds profound spiritual significance for Hindus and the pilgrimage takes place from April-May to October-November. (ANI)

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday urged the Jharkhand government and fintech companies to channel the “extraordinary misguided talent in the State,” that is resorting to cybercrimes into areas such as ethical hacking.

Responding to a question on the rise of online frauds in Jharkhand over the past few years while speaking at an event here, Sitharaman pointed out that financial regulators can highlight how such people can be engaged for ethical practices to combat cyber frauds and that the Government should highlight such potential.

Delivering an address to the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce on the theme “Vikshit Bharat 2047” on Thursday in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in an answer to a question, Sitharaman emphasised the importance of using the talent in Jharkhand ethically to combat cyber crime.

She suggested that the state government and fintech companies could harness such people effectively to prevent cyber crimes.

According to data, from 2019 to July 2023, a total of 5,350 cases of cybercrime have been reported in the state. Among these, 1,432 cases were registered in Ranchi district alone. Other districts with high numbers of cybercrime cases include Dhanbad (496 cases), Deoghar (405 cases), Jamshedpur (384 cases), and Hazaribagh (348 cases).

Despite a slight decrease from 2021, Jharkhand reported 967 cybercrime cases in 2022, making it the second highest in the country for cybercrime cases.

Notably, four districts of Jharkhand–Jamtara, Deoghar, Giridih, and Bokaro–are among the top ten in the country for the highest number of cybercrime cases.

Jamtara, in particular, has earned notoriety as the “phishing capital of India,” responsible for 2.4 per cent of all cybercrimes in the country. It has also inspired several crime capers on OTT and big screen with plots revolving around it.

In response to the growing threat of cyber crimes, the Jharkhand Police established a Cyber Crime Police Station in March 2016. This station deals with serious and complex cyber crimes and provides technical assistance to all cases it receives.

Sitharaman also addressed the alleged rampant corruption that has hindered Jharkhand’s progress, stating that it has blocked the state’s development.

The Finance Minister emphasised that the talent of Jharkhand is being wasted due to lawlessness, corruption, and the absence of basic infrastructure such as electricity and roads.

She highlighted the alarming situation of investment flow being halted in the state, as no business entity would invest where lawlessness is at its peak.

Referring to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, she said, “Investment flow has stopped in the state, no business means will invest in states where lawlessness is at its peak. NCRB data shows 795 businessmen were murdered in 2022.”

Despite the challenges, Sitharaman stressed that Jharkhand has the potential to become a manufacturing state, with 40 per cent of the country’s minerals found in the state. (ANI)
