Accused In Salman Firing Case Dies By Suicide In Police Custody

One of the arms suppliers in the firing case outside actor Salman Khan’s house, Anuj Thapan, died by suicide on Wednesday, while in Mumbai Police custody.

As per Mumbai Police, Anuj Thapan allegedly attempted suicide and hung himself inside the lock-up.

He was taken to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead, the police said.

“After taking to the hospital, accused Anuj Thapan was declared dead by doctors at the hospital,” as per the official statement by Mumbai Police.

Anuj Thapan was arrested from Punjab on April 26 and was charged and arrested for providing weapons to the two attackers who fired gunshots outside Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai.

The arrests followed the firing incident that occurred outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in the Bandra area of Mumbai.

The matter pertains to April 14 morning, when two men came on a motorbike, fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, and fled. CCTV footage showed that both accused sported caps and carried backpacks. The clip also showed them firing in the direction of the actor’s home. After the arrest of the accused, Kutch DSP AR Zankant said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Mumbai Crime Police had arrested both the shooters — Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, as well as the two arms suppliers — Sonu Subhash Chander and Anuj Thapan, were also arrested.

Meanwhile, a lookout notice has been issued against Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the case.

Earlier, the Mumbai Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all the accused arrested in connection with the firing incident outside superstar Salman Khan’s Bandra residence on April 14, officials said on Saturday.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials said that the police have identified gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as the leader of the gang and have added sections of MCOCA in the FIR.

“All accused have been booked under Sections 3(1)(2), 3(1)(3), and 3(1)(4) of MCOCA,” they said.

Earlier, the Mumbai Police registered a case against four people in the firing case, naming the Bishnoi brothers as key accused. The sections under IPC 506(2) (threatening), 115 (abetment), and 201 (tampering with evidence) have been added to the case.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials said that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been declared wanted accused in connection with the case. Anmol Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the firing outside Salman’s residence in a Facebook post following the attack. (ANI)

BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao

ECI Bans Chandrashekar Rao From Campaigning For 48 Hrs

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday banned former Telangana chief minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao from campaigning for 48 hours, for making “derogatory and objectionable statements” against Congress.

According to an order notice issued by the ECI, “The Election Commission vide ECI Press Note number ECI/PN/23/2024 dated March 16, 2024, announced the schedule of General Election to Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim and the provisions of Model Code of Conduct came into the force with immediate effect all over the country.”

“The Commission received a complaint on April 6, 2024, from G Niranjan, Vice-President, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) wherein it was alleged that Shri K. Chandrashekar Rao, President, BRS in his press meet in Sircilla on April 5, 2024, made derogatory and objectionable statements against the Congress Party,” it said.

“The Commission, under Article 324 of the Constitution of India and all other powers enabling in this behalf, bars K Chandrashekar Rao, the President, BRS from holding any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, shows and interviews, public utterances in media (electronic, print, social media) etc. in connection with ongoing elections for 48 hours from 8:00 PM on May 1, 2024.” the notice read.

This comes after KCR at a press meet in Sircilla on April 5 referred to the congress leaders as ‘sons of dogs’.

As per the official notice, KCR also called the Congress government the government of ‘lathkhors’ and called them ‘pakka chavatas, daddammas, chetakani chavatas’ (You are useless fellow).

In a complaint filed with the ECI on April 6, TPCC senior vice president G Niranjan claimed that KCR had disparaged and offended Congress lawmakers at a news conference on April 5 in Siricilla.

The comments were deemed by the ECI to be unverified accusations and derogatory remarks that could damage the opposition party’s reputation and interfere with the fairness of the current electoral process. KCR was given until April 18, 2024, by ECI to clarify his position on the remarks.

The EC noted that KCR had violated the model code of conduct even after issuing several instructions regarding his speech.

The poll authority had also indicated that if KCR does not respond within time, the Election Commission will take appropriate action. (ANI)

BJP leader Pijush Hazarika

Assam Min Hazarika Pauses Speech During Namaz

In a gesture of respect, Assam minister and BJP leader Pijush Hazarika paused in between his public speech, when Namaz was playing at a nearby Mosque, during an election rally in Baksa district on Wednesday.

In the video shared by the BJP leader, it is seen that he paused for a while when the Namaz was recited at the Mosque located at an arm’s length from the podium.

Baksa in lower Assam falls under Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.

Four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam – Barpeta, Dhubri, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar – will go to polls in the third phase set to be held on May 7, bringing the curtains down for all 14 parliamentary seats in the State.

Ten seats in Assam had voted in the previous two phases that was held on April 19 and April 26.

These four seats are crucial for both BJP and Congress. BJP, as part of its overall 400-seat target at the national level, will try to max out its seat tally in the state while on the other hand, the Congress party are targeting as many seats as possible at a time when the party state’s unit is in disarray.

In fact, all four seats headed for polls in the third phase have sizable population of Muslim voters, and the BJP notably this time is trying to reach out to them. BJP which is trying to maximize its tally in the State is faced with an uphill task with minority voters being a significant factor. However, with the AIUDF and the Congress both vying for the minority vote the BJP could benefit from the division.

Assam chief minister upped his outreach and reiterated everyday in his campaign trail that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has treated all sections of the society equally and all its schemes and programs reached all communities, including Muslims.

On April 19, Himanta addressed a rally in Nagaon’s Dhing, where as per estimates Muslim voters are over 80 per cent in numbers. The rally saw thousands from the community coming and patiently hearing the chief minister. Since then, in all election rallies, minority voters have been turning up in huge numbers.

This Lok Sabha election in Assam, the BJP is contesting in 11 out of 14 seats, while its ally parties, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), are contesting in two seats (Barpeta and Dhubri) and UPPL in one seat (Kokrajhar), respectively.

In the Lok Sabha elections of 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 7 of the 14 seats in Assam. Both the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) claimed three seats each. During the 2019 elections, the BJP increased its seat count to 9, while the Congress maintained its three seats, and the AIUDF won a single seat. (ANI)

Delhi Schools Bomb Threat

Delhi Schools Bomb Threat: Email Contains Word ‘Swaraiim’, Used By Islamic State

Sources in the Delhi Police have revealed that the email used to threaten over 80 Delhi-NCR schools in the early hours of Wednesday contained the word ‘Swaraiim’, which is an Arabic word used by the Islamic State since 2014.

According to the sources, the email ID from which Delhi NCR schools were sent the threat letter is ‘sawariim@mail.ru.’

The investigation so far has revealed that ‘Sawariim’ (clashing of the swords) is an Arabic word, that has been used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread Islamist propaganda.

As per the sources, the Delhi Police is investigating if there is a conspiracy by any organisation behind these threatening emails.

Among the 80 schools, some of the schools in the South district were: Amity School Saket, DPS International Saket, Red Rose-New Green Field, and Apeejay School.

A thorough check of the schools is being conducted through Bomb Disposal Team (BDT) and local police but nothing has been found so far.

Among the 21 schools in the West district that have reported receiving the bomb-threat-email, some of them are- Salwan Junior School, Naraina, Guru Harkishan Public School, Hari Nagar, Mira Model School, Hari Nagar, New Era Public School, Hari Nagar and S L Suri DAV School, Janak Puri.

In the north-east district, Delhi Police Public School, Wazirabad, the Samarth School, Loni Road and Bhisham Pitamah Govt. School, B Block, Nand Nagri said that they received the threat.

In New Delhi’s Shahdara district, DAV School, Shreshtha Vihar, DAV School, Dayanand Vihar, Bhai Parmanand School, Anand Vihar, Bharat National Public School, KKD and Vivekanand Public School, Anand Vihar were some of the schools.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement saying that the email appeared to be a ‘hoax’.

“There is no need to panic. The mail appears to be a hoax. Delhi Police and security agencies are taking necessary steps as per protocol,” the official release from the MHA read.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that he had sought a detailed probe from the Delhi Police Commissioner. He had earlier visited a school in north Delhi after news of the bomb threat.

All schools in Delhi-NCR to which threat emails have been sent were closed as a precaution, and the children were sent back. (ANI)

Pakistani Hindu leader Senate Danesh Kumar Palyani

Pakistani Hindu Senator Raises Alarm Over Forced Conversions In Sindh

Pakistani Hindu leader and member of the Senate, Danesh Kumar Palyani on Tuesday raised concern over the grave human rights crisis in the Sindh province of the country and said that the girls of the Hindu community are being forcibly converted to Islam.

“You see in Sindh, bandits are forcefully converting our Hindu girls to Islam. Bandits in mud forts areas kidnap people but Bandits in settled areas are forcing girls to convert their religion. However, Pakistan gives us the right that no one should force anyone else to convert,” the leader in the ongoing 337th session of the Pakistan Senate.

“Even in Quran, it says ‘La ikraha fiddin’, [there be no compulsion in religion], where in ‘Surah Al-Kafirun’, it says Your religion for you and mine for me. These oppressive people dont even believe in Pakistan’s constitution nor in Quran sharif. They are forcibly changing religion of Hindu women,” it added.

The Pakistani leader also shared his speech on his social media account X, saying, “The daughters of Hindus are not a booty that someone should forcibly change their religion, Hindu girls are being forcibly converted to the religion in Sindh. It has been two years since innocent Priya Kumari was abducted.”

“The government does not take action against these influential people. Senator Danesh Kumar’s address in the Senate session. A few dirty eggs and robbers have defamed our beloved mother land Pakistan. The law/Constitution of Pakistan does not allow forced religious conversion and neither does the Holy Quran,” he added.

On April 11, UN experts expressed dismay at the continuing lack of protection for young women and girls belonging to minority communities in Pakistan.

“Christian and Hindu girls remain particularly vulnerable to forced religious conversion, abduction, trafficking, child, early and forced marriage, domestic servitude and sexual violence,” the experts said. “The exposure of young women and girls belonging to religious minority communities to such heinous human rights violations and the impunity of such crimes can no longer be tolerated or justified.”

The experts expressed concern that forced marriages and religious conversions of girls from religious minorities which have been coerced are validated by the courts, often invoking religious law to justify keeping victims with their abductors rather than allowing them to return them to their parents. “Perpetrators often escape accountability, with police dismissing crimes under the guise of ‘love marriages’,” they said.

The experts stressed that child, early and forced marriage cannot be justified on religious or cultural grounds. They underlined that, under international law, consent is irrelevant when the victim is a child under the age of 18.

“A woman’s right to choose a spouse and freely enter into marriage is central to her life, dignity and equality as a human being and must be protected and upheld by law,” the experts said. They stressed the need for provisions to invalidate, annul or dissolve marriages contracted under duress, with due consideration for the women and girls concerned, and to ensure access to justice, remedy, protection and adequate assistance for victims. Russian School threat

Threat Mail To Delhi Schools Sent Using Russian Domain

After over 80 schools across Delhi-NCR received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning the investigation agencies suspect that the email originated from a server located in Russia, sources said. Sources say a single IP address was used to send the email to all schools.

The Cyber team of the Delhi Police has also joined the investigation. Sources say the initial investigation shows that the email address, used to send the threat mail to over 80 schools in Delhi-NCR, had a Russian domain. However, the Police are yet to ascertain whether the email actually originated from Russia.

The police is now tracking the IP address of the email address. Sources have told ANI that these kind of emails are usually send using a VPN connection to enable the sender to mask the original IP address. The Cyber team is confident of tracing the IP address. Sources in the investigation team also say that the Dark Web could have been used to send the threat mail.

In order to cover all flanks different teams of the Delhi Police are working on different aspects of the investigation. The Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi police are conducting a joint investigation to address the situation.

As news of the threats spread, the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education issued a statement confirming that no dangerous devices or suspicious activity were found in any of the affected schools.

“Today, few schools of Delhi got hoax bomb calls/ mails. Nothing adverse/ questionable was found anywhere by Delhi Police. All our students and teachers are safe. All are requested not to panic. To relieve the parents, students were allowed to leave if parents had reached school,” Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, a Delhi police senior officials meeting going on in police headquarters. Special CPS along with joint CP and officer of the social media cell also present.

Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa confirmed that nothing suspicious was found at any of the schools during investigation.

“Several schools have approached us that they have received an email regarding a bomb in their campus. Delhi Police has conducted search operations but nothing untoward has been found so far…It seems someone has done this to create panic…I just want to request the parents to not get panicked. We are conducting an investigation regarding the same,” the Delhi Police PRO said.

Meanwhile to prevent panic among parents and faculty and prompting frenetic searches, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement earlier, saying that the email appeared to be a ‘hoax’.

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has initiated an investigation into the bomb threats sent to several schools but nothing suspicious has been found yet, said police officials.

Two Ex-MLAs Quit Party After Arvinder’s Resignation

After the resignation of Delhi Pradesh Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely the Delhi unit of the Congress suffered a double jolt on Wednesday, two former MLAs Neeraj Basoya and Nasseb Singh resigned from the primary membership of the party putting the party’s Lok Sabha preparations in doubt.

In a letter addressed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Nasseb Singh said, “Today, you have appointed Davinder Yadav as DPCC Chief. He as AICC (In-Charge Punjab) has run a campaign in Punjab solely based on attacking Arvind Keiriwal’s false agenda and today, in Delhi he will be mandated to praise and support AAP and its Chief Arvind Kejriwal. Being deeply pained and humiliated at the recent developments in the Party, I resign from the party…”

Neeraj Basoya, in a letter to Congress President Kharge, said, “Our continued alliance, with AAP is extremely humiliating given that the AAP has been associated with numerous scams in the past 7 years. The top 3 Leaders of the AAP-Arvind Kejriwal, Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia are already in jail. AAP has been accused of serious corruption charges on various issues such as the Delhi Liquor Scam and Delhi Jal Board Scam.”

“By allying with AAP despite the above position, it is appearing that the Congress Party is attempting to give a clean chit to AAP and appreciate the deceitful propaganda of the development of AAP. I can no longer be a part of any such attempt,” he said.

“I hereby tender my resignation from all Party Posts and the primary membership of the Party. I thank Smt Sonia Gandhi Ji for giving a common man like me, all the opportumt1es in the last 30 years,” Basoya further said.

Earlier on April 28, Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from his post.

“The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of leveling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party. Despite that, the Party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi…,” Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.

In the Lok Sabha elections the Congress is fighting on 3 seats in Delhi while the AAP is contesting on 4 seats. The Congress has nominated JP Aggarwal from Chandni Chowk, Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi and Udit Raj from Delhi North West. The elections to Delhi will be held on May 25 and the results of all Lok Sabha seats will be declared on June 2. (ANI)

Likely To Be Hoaxes: Delhi Fire Chief After Over 80 Schools Receive Bomb Threats

Director of Delhi Fire Services Atul Garg on Wednesday said that email bomb threats received by over 80 schools in the Delhi-NCR area today were most likely hoaxes.

Many schools sent their students home after receiving the threat mails that triggered panic among parents.

“We have received more than 80 calls in Delhi only. There were calls about bomb threats, and we responded to all the calls and sent fire tenders to all the locations. But some schools have started sending their vehicles back. I believe all these calls are likely to turn out to be hoaxes,” Garg said.

Garg emphasized that it is critical to attend to every call, even if it might be a false alarm, as safety is the top priority.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it appeared to be a hoax threat and that there was no need to panic.

“Every call was attended; we can’t take chances with any call. If we receive a call, we have to attend to it. So, we attended all the calls. Since I received the information around 8 AM, I immediately alerted all the stations, and all the officers in our stations are ready to move wherever required. We have postponed other work,” Garg said.

The Fire chief also appealed to the public to remain calm and assured them that the fire department is well-prepared to handle any emergency.

“There’s no need to panic,” he said. “We are fully prepared. As some schools have already sent their vehicles back, I think these calls are all false and likely the work of miscreants attempting to create panic,” Garg said.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that he had sought a detailed probe from the Delhi Police Commissioner. He had earlier visited a school in north Delhi after news of the bomb threat.

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has initiated an investigation but nothing suspicious has been found yet, said police officials.
